You can't tell someone they're buying something if it's actually a rental, it's too much and I'm done with this today.

How Piracy Isn't Cut Redshirt Chef I'm going to buy it in this video. I'll show you how I legally created a library of almost every good TV show and movie my family and I have ever watched. Start with this. This is a Pioneer UHD Blu-ray drive that I plug into my computer, use it to copy or copy all my movies and TV shows and then all that content ends up here, a new 6 Bay Nest that the Aces store sent me to test and hey, they're sponsoring this video, so I'll give them a quick look. summary of why I like it Locker store 6 Gen 2 is a six-bay network attached storage server and is perfect for your home or office its quad-core Intel CPU we will analyze your media library it has 2.5 gig Ethernet built-in for faster network transfers and has a PCI Express expansion slot for greater flexibility with an Envy Amy 4-drive m.2 adapter.

I'm really glad he did it because now I can copy files. come and go much faster, but if you want a really good six-bane, check it out with the link in the description, but back to the problem at hand, this year everyone is raising the prices and forcing you to look. ads at the cheapest levels.

the selection of content on each service has been reduced to nothing just originals and cheesy old 80's movies there's almost nothing worth watching like Disney Paramount anymore and all the other studios let's go back to saving all their classic movies, there's only one thing we can do to defend ourselves, cancel our subscriptions and go back to physical media.
Heck, most services charge if you want 4K and don't even give you good quality 4K, what if? I told you that you can buy 4K UHD Blu-rays and get even better quality than any streaming service at any price. Here's how you'll need three things to get started: a computer, a Blu-ray drive, and a place to store all your movies and shows almost any modern computer works. I'm using my Mac laptop, but the ripping process runs on any Windows Mac or even Linux, so you need an optical drive, almost any drive will rip a DVD, but not all of them work. for 4K UHD Blu-rays and it would suck if I can't rip Top Gun's Maverick and 4K once my pre-order arrives, you could hack the firmware on a cheap drive, but I spent a few more bucks to get this Pioneer bdr xd-07uhd .
I like two things: first, if I plug it directly into my Mac, I don't need another plug, and second, it rips 4K Blu-rays without any tricks. I used to use this old Plex storage drive, but it doesn't work. 4K at all, but a drive like this would work fine for regular Blu-ray discs. The last thing you need is a place to put the movies. DVDs typically have a few gigabytes per movie, but Blu-rays can have 30 or even up to 60 gigabytes. per movie for 4K content, so you'll need at least a giant hard drive at this point.
You could get a 10 terabyte drive like this WDS mainframe for about $200, but I use a Nas or network attached storage so I can expand my storage and access it anywhere, just plug the nas into one of the ports your router to share your media with your entire home. There are two great advantages to using an ass: First, you can install multiple hard drives so you can increase your storage. and have more redundancy, second, you can run software directly on the nest to share your media library, like the program I use Jellyfin when you are starting out, simply having an external hard drive may be enough, but eventually, especially once we become a data hog, You'll probably get an S and maybe more than one won't say I didn't warn you once you have the hardware, how do you get the film out of one of these?
Well, let's connect the Blu-ray drive to me and my Mac. I'll switch to my screen and show you exactly how I do it. The first thing you need to do is install some applications that you will need to make MKV VLC and handbrake. Making MKV great for ripping movies from discs, it basically takes the raw video. and the audio is streamed and placed in a file called MKV file. Make MKV free if you get the beta key from it, but I actually paid for a license a few years ago as the software is very useful to me so install it too. install VLC VLC stands for video lan client, but it's basically the best video player since you can throw virtually any type of video file at it, even the ones that make QuickTime vomit.
Finally, technically it's not necessary, we have to install the handbrake, but I use it to do something called handbrake transcoding it can translate the MKV files make MKV copies into something more useful for devices that may not be able to handle a 4K stream complete uncompressed, we'll talk about that later, but now that we have the software downloaded it's time to copy our first Blu-ray opening creates MKV and if it asks for a software key, you can buy one or go to the forums and get the Current Beta key. The key is updated every two months, so you should keep downloading a new version. when the old one expires, unless you buy it, you should see the Blu-ray drive in MKV format and you will be able to confirm that everything is working in the information here on the right.
I'll pop in my War Games Blu-ray to copy it. one of the movies that inspired me to get into computers. I mean, how can you not love a movie with this kind of soundtrack? I just want to say that halfway through I'm still listening to the original Tron soundtrack. You know Wendy Carlos won after a few. seconds, have MKV start reading the disc and search for protected video content. Sometimes this can take a minute or two. Once that's done, you can click on the Blu-ray icon and have MKV finish scanning the disc for individual titles - basically all the tracks.
Discs that have video This is where things can be a little weird when you put a Blu-ray into a player on your TV, it has a menu and in that menu you can play the movie, but there are other videos on the disc too, so For example, if there are bonus features, each of them is a separate video file and if there are multiple versions of the movie, such as one with the director's commentary or a separate video for an alternative language, then those may also appear, so find out which of these titles are the actual movie, it can be tricky, sometimes what I usually do is extract all the largest files, usually at least a few gigabytes, because one of them is usually the main file of the movie or, if it's the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings, I just rip them all out. file on disk because they load those things with amazing extended content.
In this case it's a War Games Blu-ray and it's pretty obvious that it's one of these two files, both about 30GB bytes, so if you just want the movie, select the larger one. files and uncheck everything else, then choose a folder to move to and click the Create MKV button, this process takes a long time, so if you have a lot of movies to make, good luck, no, but really with my movies and This unit is about 20. megabytes per second, which means that each movie takes 20 or 30 minutes. If you are ripping a 4K UHD disc and the read speed is 0.1x, you may have a disc that is not yet in the mkv database or your Blu-ray.
The Drive may not have the proper firmware to rip 4K content, so you can fix it or just wait a year for the rip to finish, but after a while the rip completes and you now have files with names like wargames t03 and t04 in a folder and on my Mac at least I can't open these files in QuickTime and that's why I installed VLC. If I right click and choose open with VLC then it should open and start playing. I always quickly review the copied files and make sure that what I think is the movie is actually the movie.
Some movie studios do dumb things like put 20 versions of the movie with 19 all jumbled up thinking they are being clever and do everything they can to prevent you from watching the movies you buy the way you like it, if you run into problems like that head over to the MKV creation forums. There are guides like this one that can help you find the right title; fortunately, that's not the case on this album and this one. The first file is actually the entire movie, so I'll rename it. We're not going to start organizing things just yet, but whenever I name a movie, I always put the name of the movie and the year it was released in parentheses, which can be a big help since it exists. sometimes there are multiple movies with the same name in this set, the media software distinguishes which one it is, so I'll call this one war games with 1983 in parentheses at this point, some people are done and move on to the next movie and can just use the raw MKV files if you want to rely on something called live transcoding, but I don't for two reasons: First, I don't want to have to have a fast NASA computer dedicated to live transcoding, it requires a lot of horsepower. to re-encode 4K and HD content for playback on older or slower devices, and while it's nice to have the original data from the disc, these MKV files are huge, like war games, they're over 30 gigabytes, a library modest with 300 films. to consume 10 terabytes on TV seasons too and you can consume more than 20 terabytes pretty quickly.
I transcode the movies immediately and throw in the MKV file. I can compress a 30 gigabyte movie to four or five and still have extremely good quality. Doing that means I can store five times as many movies and TV on the same hard drives, that's a lot of money saved and for me I transcode everything using the handbrake. When you open the handbrake, it asks for a file. I'll look into the war games. MKV and select it, you will be able to preview the video, but the most important thing is to choose a preset that you will be happy with for a normal Blu-ray.
I stick with the built-in HQ 1080p 30 surround preset because it retains a stereo, surround sound track and uses h.264 encoding h.264 is an older codec, but the encoding is usually fast and can be played on almost anything for video 4K. I use the same preset but increased the resolution limit to 2160p in the dimensions tab but I'm thinking about switching to using a newer h.265 preset once again my devices are supported natively but let's not get into it too much In details, you can spend a lot of time adjusting custom presets for me. I want a very good quality copy and the built in presets are pretty good for that, the last step is to choose an output folder and downloads are fine for me and then click Start.
This is the part of the process where having a faster computer can help, my Mac Studio is much faster than my solar laptop and if you have a GPU you can even use hardware acceleration. Handbrake has a whole performance section that looks at the details, but no matter what it still takes a long time, so if I have multiple movies to transcode, like in my case, War Games and Mulan 1 and 2 and I have to throw a bone to the kids here. I can queueAdditional videos, simply open another source, then set a preset and click add to queue.
I usually rip a few Blu-rays at a time and then prepare all the transcoding so I can scan the files for a day or two, even while I'm sleeping after the handbrake has been applied. The mp4 file in the exports can be played on almost anything you play on my Raspberry. The Pi could play it now, at this point you have a lot of options, you can play the movies back on your computer no problem, but if you want to get serious you need a Nas now. The Asus store sent me their Pro-level six-bay Nas and I'm actually using it as my main Nas, but for most people starting out a smaller two- or four-bay Nast like this might make more sense. , it's only 2.5 gigs or not and the processor is a little slower, but it's perfect for a media library and with four drive bays, you can fit two, three, or four hard drives for better redundancy.
You can configure the nest to have one or two hard drives as a backup in case one fails with a Nas, even if storing terabytes of data again and being able to swap out a failed hard drive is really useful. I still have a second backup of everything on this other Nas in my rack but that may be overkill for most people, it really depends on how important your data is to you, check out my video of the backup plan three, two, one, if you want to learn more about how I do my backups, this Nas is from asusstore, but there are also other good beginner nases from qnap, Synology, and Netgear, and they all cost around $300. but that's before you buy hard drives, hard drives will cost you another $15 per terabyte and if you want some redundancy you'll have to buy an extra drive just for that.
An Asus store also sent Seagate six of these six-terabyte Seagate ironwolf NAS drives. It's not necessary to have a really good quality drive like this, but it helps when running four of them side by side 24/7. So, everything in a Nas like this with four six terabyte hard drives will cost you around $700. If you dare, you could build your own nests using something like Trueness and an old PC and save a bit of money, but these Nas They are worth the price for most people, quicker to set up, super compact, and very efficient. all of these nasas run custom software and this one uses something called ADM and using ADM it only takes a few seconds to set up media sharing for my entire home and I'm going to show you how in my next video I'm going to talk about how I installed Jelly Fin on the nest and how I can see movies on any device or TV in the house, so subscribe until Hollywood really cares about your right to own the content you purchase.
