Jun 05, 2021
Hello, welcome behind the

scenes

of the Thor Ragnarok home trailer, you know, Mark, he's been on this show for a couple of years. They began with the drastic global home failure. Yes, that was the first of many since then. I have always done it. I've been working behind the

scenes

, but now I get to create the show and I'm super excited for you to take over the show, so please be nice in the comments. I'm watching out for them to do the worst they can. It doesn't matter and we're in the new DIY workshop so we're going to show you how we work food and home everyone and welcome you to the behind the scenes view of our

homemade

Thor Ragnarok trailer from the beginning we needed a Thor Costume Thor, fortunately, there is a costume squad, Thor's costume had many different aspects, there was the tunic itself, there were knee pads, there were wrist guards, we had to make sure and build all the elements that were presented in the trailer, so I made the club, the shield and of course the helmet with moving parts Before we got to the gladiator scene, there were a few shots of Thor in his more traditional costume from the previous films.

We had a Thor costume. I think it was the Avengers Age of Ultron, so to update that, for this movie we made a hybrid of that costume and the new one I made, we used the parts we like, we threw away the parts we know to complete the transformation. Now I'm Joe Dirt, so this scene shows Thor throwing. a hammer, so I made this hammer. Everything is made of cardboard. I wrapped the handle with the same vinyl material I made his gladiator costume with. I used silver masking tape for the details. Meister Brown stops the leash so I can grab it, there's a computer there anyway.

More Interesting Facts About,

I think we are ready to destroy all our enemies. Making home movies is fun, but it quickly became apparent that one man can't do this alone. Fortunately I was able to partner with John. Tomlinson, who's been a part of home movies for a long time and is doing more camera work behind the scenes and we're collaborating on all of this, what are you doing? John, oh, I'm just putting this sheet here, a couple stands out. The background will be a kind of hell that Thor is involved in, yes, I think you understood it, in this scene we see Thor in a real wasteland, a big plane, a big sky, many elements, so we had to use the force , the perspective, I took out the elements. that were in the scene and we brought them closer to the camera we put the spaceships on hangers we took a trip to the park around the corner Angela and Francesca came out and were able to move them slightly in front of the camera. camera to make them look like they are flying in the air yes help us today to play hella we have our friend gnar I know hello today you will be one of the stars of this trailer your incredible enemy my enemy yes I am Thor so I guess but in real life, great friends, the first thing we should do is put on our eye makeup.

I really wanted Hellas' headdress to stand out, so I made all the elements out of cardboard. I gave it pretty much freehand, used one side and copied it. I turned them into a headpiece piece, sprayed everything black and the end result looks great, this is amazing, yes, in this scene Helen does a slow motion spin towards the camera in front of a bunch of Smoky Mountains, so we were able to hang some sheets. with suction cups to a glass wall and we created the moon effect, black sheets on cardboard to look like mountains and then we filled it all with another shot with hella, she seems to be throwing her sword in the air.

John was kind enough to make the sword and this is an important day in history, the first time I hot glued something together what no, no, no, yeah, wish me the best, are you serious?, yeah, How did I think I did it? How is it made? It really is a very similar setup. to the other plane, so we moved the mountains a little and then John was in a chair removing the sword from her creating the effect of her throwing it for the rest of the planes with hella in them, she doesn't have it. The headdress she is wearing has striking black hair so we used a black hairspray that NARS Brown was able to cover and this shot goes to the Asgardian military and her costume is different, this time it has green details so we took the silver duct tape and I replaced it with green duct tape.
In this scene, Hella is passing through some sort of golden portal. We had a gold tassel lying around so we set it up on the C supports and filled the room with smoke and had an hour walk and that's a wrap up hello it was fun it was a lot of fun it's a pleasure okay yeah yeah We don't have a time today for this hammer catching scene, so Mark painted his own foam and he's going to catch his own hammer in this shot, so we have a fishing line attached to the end and Angela is going to pull it out of there and we're going to reverse the shot clock, it's pretty fast, most people aren't worthy enough to even hold Thor's hammer, but Hella destroys it for this scene we use.
In stop-motion we placed the hammer on a C-shaped stand so it wouldn't move and we went frame by frame drawing cracks a little longer each time and the lightning elements are made of pipe cleaners to make the hammer explode. We actually cut it into three different pieces, taped it back together and then Angela and I pulled it apart with fishing line and John shone a flashlight on the camera to create a big lens flare. We were supposed to make the hammer explode in one take, which didn't happen, so we had to put it back together several times using duct tape.
The shot took a few different attempts, but in the end I think it was worth playing with the skirts today. We have our friend Derek. You may recognize Derek from Civil War. Your motivation. for this character, yes you want dead things, shooting is a good way to make those things die, yes I think we are ready to start with the first part of the costume, probably many more pieces, although this shirt says small because I wore this for Black Panther. and I realized I really needed to get the rest of Scourge. The suit is made of cardboard.
I cut out the skirt and chest piece and then sprayed them brown using a detail marker. Scourge is bald. Our friend Derek isn't, so we gave him a bald head. Put a lid on them and we add the two hair elements using two, let's make the gun, if you leave us behind me, we have this super awesome

homemade

movie sign that Dustin made. We made it with spray painted cardboard. It looks incredible. It also provided a perfect canvas. We could hang a sheet for the background of Derek's shot. I hung some clouds on the sheet that I spray painted to look like this sunset and then we had Derek sit on a milk crate and hold his gun in the shot.
Derek. he's firing some big guns with some big flares. He physically made them with foam and we filmed the scene twice, once without and once with the players in the weapons. In the editing process we took a frame of the shot with flares and placed Enter when you see the flares on the way, okay this is Amari, he will help us with a couple of shots today, so now let's be a funny man , Jesse, from head to toe, perfect. He's okay, you'll even recognize me, so in this shout. They cut my head off, which is a first for me, these little green globules of blood fly out of my head after they decapitate it, so I have these pieces of foam that I'm going to throw up when I get on board to play Loki .
It's a face that everyone knows and loves Dustin McLean, my girlfriend loves Loki, so I'm going to spend a little more time less costume, yeah, this cool chest piece, awesome shoulder pads, I'm going to spray some of green, a little of black, some of us will be brown and the back. They are held together using some cardboard strips. They are wearing mustache and beard as the purpose of your hair is the perfect length. Perfect. Loki's helmet is essentially a two-dimensional helmet made of cardboard. I sprayed it gold, added some tape details, and then folded it. the horns back to make it look like they were much bigger than they were in this shot.
Loki threw some knives and caught them in his hands. I made the knives out of cardboard and added pennies to the end so they would have weight and be easier to manipulate. flip, making it one of the most expensive accessories we've ever made. There's a Loki character in the background who has this really cool helmet and I'm going to make it with some of the fabric that was used to sub- Zero's costume came back to Mortal Kombat, so here we have our friend Javi who will be playing the character Goblin in Loki's background. Shut up, I mean, they're doing my hair properly.
Today's makeup is brought to you by Scruffy, as you may have noticed our new DIY workspace is in the Mashable office, so we can grab some people from the office and take them to the ramp that runs along the side of the building that leads to the parking lot. Direct traffic. Loki, the crossing was perfect. Location for Loki's shooting. I made some giant snakes out of cardboard, we placed them in some marine stands, so the shortest shot in the entire trailer probably required the most work. I had to make masks, pieces of armor, swords, shields, spears and us.
Four people came to help us, we tried to fill as much of the frame as possible, but if you blink you'll probably miss them. I like your shield, you know, as a guard it protects all the slot machines in the houses and the target, and then it was time. for the miniatures my favorite part of home movies the first miniature I made was a giant Asgard scene so I made the castle out of cardboard the city out of LEGO pieces I used blankets for the mountains and a coat rack for the bridge trying to find a girl , but in the geojo world they are rare.
I'm going to go with this guy. Say it like this. No, she's falling through the air. Some mountains of aluminum foil that I'm going to spray black. I made the spaceship out of pressed wood. I braided it in yellow and then added the details with red masking tape. I had some finger lights that I put on the back which looked really cool and then I made the background out of leaves from all the miniatures. I made the biggest one by far. It was the gladiator arena, it had to be big, we had to be able to fit many different scenes within this space, so I built the entire arena out of cardboard, sprayed everything with gray primer, headed the red details with masking tape.
I had shots of the crowd that I printed off the Internet and put in the space where the fans go and we haven't removed them. I couldn't do all the shots of Thor, we needed a miniature, so I took a GI Joe and gave him a Thor. Castle, this is a Thor with a mustache, but you never really see mini Thor from the front, so you know, what slide he keeps playing with yourself, yes, because he plays on the floor, yes, we connect cables to our miniatures so we can move them and I got help using flashlights to simulate matching points for a shot.
We made an even smaller version of Hulk and Thor out of paper and then moved on to the life-sized arena shots to get the background for the Thor shots. I put up a bunch of sheets and then use red masking tape to make the details so good that I have my costume that I made for the costume team rocking everything, there is a very fast moving shot of Thor in the sand where he is flapping his little wings helmet down in order To create this effect we used rear projection, which is actually an old Hollywood technique where we filmed part of the interior of the arena, put it on a television and then I stood in front of a television and moved to simulate the camp.
We are lucky. enough to have a huge giant TV here in the office, if you wanted to recreate this shot you could stand closer to a smaller TV or use a projector and my favorite shot of the entire trailer, the room goes through a door leading to the arena I built. all cardboard I added some details with adhesive tape. I made two different big giant doors, one is made of foam so Hulk can destroy it in case we don't get it at once. I made one out of cardboard that we can use over and over again and if you do this, they are a great team playing Hulk today we have our lovely John Tomlinson, are you ready for this, are you ready for this, you scared the hell out of him while his personality is the size of the Hulk.
His body was a little smaller than we needed, so we put on a really cool muscle shirt and put a green turtleneck over it, which really made him look a lot bigger. I made a cardboard armor that really feels like Martin Sheen or Apocalypse Now I made the helmet out of an old bike helmet and a broom we got at the dollar store that looks more like Frankenstein. Hulk's weapons were mainly made of cardboard. He has an accent but also a hammer. I used some Tupperware and different pieces. I have the office lying around in this shot, you have two doors, one moves up and one moves out, so Angela was moving the outside door while avi moved the top door and then Francesca threw confetti at the camerato simulate the sparks that we are.
He was supposed to get it in one take, but luckily he couldn't break it, so we got to try it several times. Home movies. I thought it was Holland Moats. My favorite medieval rock band. Okay, first you will go to battle. I'll watch you from then on. Can I ride the horse? I caught a fish once. Oh, those aren't sunglasses. Thanks for watching behind the scenes.
