Ken Webster was born in the Lake District in 1955. He graduated from Aberystwyth University in 1976. One could argue that this is because the language continued to evolve up to that point, but the spelling is wildly inconsistent and some words are spelled with three or four different variations, perhaps a peculiarity of the phenomenon, but the reality is that it makes you feel like a poorly thought out mistake.
