This Is What Happens When You Elect a Psychopath as City Mayor - Cities: Skylines II | Ad

May 08, 2024
Hi, I'm Josh, welcome back to Let's Play, today we'll be playing City Skylines 2. Congratulations from our good friends at Paradox for sponsoring

this

one. Oh, and also the version of the game I have is an early version, so there might be a few. The oddities, you know, really excite me, but keep in mind, for some of the rare things we can find first, we must first choose a starting map and I know that

when

we consider these things we should take all kinds of things. in consideration

what

is the topic

what

is the climate what are the external connections what are all the natural resources or could we go ahead and choose the river delta because I have decided at

this

moment that that would be my spy name and that is enough for me and now we are going to go ahead and call our

city

Sadula, the magical river

city

where you can cry anywhere you want at home, in the streets, in the shower, we mean it, cry anywhere and now I have to wonder How many text messages are we allowed? to put in this box oh wow it's really going to let me continue and obviously this city is North American and I think we're ready to go okay here we are in the beautiful zero population starting lands of sadula and it's already raining first.

What we need to check is if our name really took ah yes, it sure did, right? That's something I definitely like to see, surely this won't have a single harmful side effect and on that note, let's go ahead and save our The first thing you do in the game you never know what's going to happen in a beta. Oh, look, that's what I'm talking about. Look at it, trying to show the full name of our city. Too bad, it runs out of space. No problem. Can I save it anyway? I don't think it's necessary let's go ahead and delete everything and we'll just call it sagula one okay that didn't do that either luckily we can go to the city name and rename it here so if you just rename it to sagula and then try saving again, ah, that's how it's supposed to look, it's supposed to show you your city and have a save button, that's what I was missing.

More Interesting Facts About,

That's fair, we'll just call it sagula, wait a minute the forest is already on fire but it's raining how did I get so lucky oh I think I found it it's up to here I don't know if I'm going to care about this at all okay, here we are a nice cozy fire that gets even cozier the closer we get, now I'm torn because we have a city to build, but we're blessed with this perfectly good forest fire, so let's see how this goes first. I mean, so far it's not that big. and also our current city is out there somewhere, I mean, this is all for pleasure, okay, come on, let's speed this up, we don't have all day, let's go from this to this, here we go, it's much better, fire. yours Owen, what is this?

More friends in the distance, yes, that's a fire, okay, oh no, and they're going to take out these ruins of the castle, win, how unfortunate that would be, oh my God, and as this one goes and that one goes, too there's that one over there and another one it's like this game knew my needs before me oh and don't look now there's been a traffic accident how is that possible we don't even have a city yet wait this is this is our accident uh it shouldn't be a problem there's a police car coming soon oh here we come someone's here to help hey citizen kill me whoa whoa don't cut that guy and the circle of life continues too all things considered I think this fire situation is going to be okay, yeah, There are a lot of indicators and stuff, but it seems like for every tree that burns, a bunch of them still survive unfortunately, so we'll let it burn for now, after all, we have a city to build.

You see this border around everything that is technically our city limits right now, the most we have is this nice road that goes right into our town and goes nowhere and in the meantime we have this other nice road over here. Getting off the main highway and then unloading people here to nothing, so I guess this is the most logical place to start our city, which means we're going to start right here. Well, first thing is to start with some roads afterwards. They're all the main infrastructure of the city, so it seems like it makes the most sense for it to connect to that thing over there, but can we connect it to anything as long as it's within the city limits?
Can we connect it to this thing here? let's figure it out so far it looks like we can put it right here oh yeah that's a big yes because who doesn't want to go over the normal 65 miles per hour on this bridge and then have to suddenly change without warning into a 30 mile per hour zone? time, yes, you do it the right way. USA, well, actually, you know, why just give them a chance? Let's give them two, one after the other. Oh, and we can't forget the other side too, and by that I mean. one of these is the most perfect way to not have an accident thank god there are crosswalks don't forget to yield oh what the hell let's add a couple more you can never have too many ways to get to a city can you sometimes have? the street that you prefer and you just want to take it because after all, at the end of the day, all these roads are actually going to lead to the same road, oh my gosh, just look at this, my chest hurts just trying to navigate this.
Okay, you know what, but let's be honest, why stop here

when

we can do something a little more like this? Okay, yeah, here we go. I mean, God help us all if anyone really wants to go through this and who wouldn't look at these beauties. Features you haven't dreamed of on your daily commute with all sorts of stuff like specialists and I have no idea who has the right of way for all of this. I guess it doesn't really matter, it will all lead to the same place. which is this little peak right here, there can be many ways to get to this point, but only one road will take you to the actual city and it will be a single lane road, we will put it on top first. here a little bit here and then maybe a little bit here I mean, yeah, we knew that's how it was going to turn out and now finally taking it to our first island connecting it all the way here, okay, perfect, now you've probably noticed.
All these squares and junk, basically the game lets us know that this is where we can place residential areas or commercial buildings or whatever, because you know in things like a normal city you would have your roads and your buildings logically placed and all that. things or it can turn into a colossal mess just the way we like it, especially in the case of this, which I don't even know if we can put things in the water, so let's go ahead and go to our zones here and try if We're new to building from the city.
Green is residential. Blue is commercial. Yellow is industrial. The pink ones are office areas and then we have things for specialized industries like livestock, for now we will stick with residential areas in this case. We're going to opt for nice low-density housing, which is like single-family homes and things like that, let's see. I think we can just highlight the area we want and s

elect

it. Well, here we go, unfortunately it's not underwater, but I guess that will do and before. Let's get too crazy, let's take our roads and run in this direction so we have a nice piece of land to build on and then we'll just run around here, which oh god he doesn't seem to like.
This can be seen by everything highlighted in red, but I think I have a solution. It's called raising the road a little. Oh, pending too. Steve, okay, we'll do a reasonable amount so the cars don't start rolling backwards. on the slope and gives us more space to build more residential areas. Look, there are already houses under construction. What a beautiful beachfront property. This is a beautiful one-story home for sale, complete with a greenhouse-style satellite dish to match the trash cans and the constant threat of fire spread. in the distance anyway, while all of that plays out, let's come back here and finish this path.
If you made it this far in the city, you already know what to expect and if you didn't make it well, here in the town of Sagula, our motto. Yeah, you'll probably get used to it and connect it back to this main road. Everything is connected there. Don't say I didn't do anything good for you, just to seal the deal. We will try to listen to everyone's demands. You can see there's a whole list of different things they might want low, medium, high density residential, blah, blah, blah, blah and their corresponding colors. We already made all these low-density houses that, as you can see in the bar graph, no one wants, but they really do. medium and high density housing so we'll spread some of that out too oh yeah progress that's what I like to see and Lord knows once you have your nice single family home this is what you want to live next to this level . from the construction hey, what the hell is this icon here? water damage this structure has been flooded and is being damaged why are you crying? you're on dry land down there whatever I'm sure it's fine you know this is the coolest thing I do this Nice place for people to live and yet no one wants to move they just walk right by aren't you impressed with our gigantic apartment skyscrapers?
Okay, I think how to solve this problem, let's take a look at our city's economy, specifically, let's take a look at taxes, well, here's your problem: people don't want to pay taxes and I'm sure we could get pretty granular. with this and really assign different taxes to different things, but I'm going to go with a good tried and true method called reducing taxes, not just to zero percent but to negative 10 I guess that means we're paying them to move there, what do we think of this place now? OMG, it's finally happening. We finally have someone who is willing to challenge this new frontier and have fun at it. curves oh yeah look people are finally moving in and they are very orderly also look at this they wait their turn and it doesn't matter they don't need to do any of that you know how it is when you're tired of all this driving on the road and you just need something a little more exciting, of course you do.
Who doesn't want a flying minivan? Really this neighborhood is too City too angry anyway, welcome to your new home. I can not wait to see him. where they call home oh it must be right here what are these buildings under construction oh is that place over there why did you park so far away what are you afraid it's haunted? oh just a quick reminder this is one of the first builds I've been on. I was told this foliage will look a lot better soon, on the other hand, don't you dare touch this guy's mustache. I know a national treasure when I see one anyway, welcome to your new home, what do you think?
I guess that was enough for him. Back to the car we go, no I was wrong he just wants to go for a nice quiet walk, wait I was wrong again he's probably going to go to that construction site to take a shit so while they're at it let's check out the rest of the In our neighborhood We have all kinds of people showing off their parallel parking skills for no reason in their matching smart cars. Yes, we are all very impressed. Oh, and that's not the only place with a lot of activity, as you can see, this city is growing.
It's getting bigger, oh, and I have better news: You hear that noise, well, don't look now, but it looks like the fire has found us. Yes, that's what I like to see. I hope you like living next to nature anyway. our city is coming together, wait a minute, there are people complaining about my city on social media? We could really use a better water supply in this city. This city's sewers could really use an upgrade. The water and the sewers, oh, I guess that explains all these icons. I forgot that we have to do things like sewage,

elect

ricity and water sources.
What are you complaining about? There's a river right there. It doesn't feel safe to go out at night with the whole Crime hashtag out there. Yes, don't look at this place now. He seems totally insecure. I would never trust a neighborhood with so many smart cars. This is how I feel about you and your crying. Let's change the name of this street. We'll move it from Willow Street to Cry Baby Alley, yes, now. I have done it and now all the addresses here have changed too. How would you like to live at 750 Crying Ally? So I guess the first thing we're going to start with is electricity, we could go with something like wind or we could go with This coal power plant produces more electricity, plus medium air and noise pollution, it's low cost but generates a lot of pollution, that is without a doubt what I like to hear.
We'll put it right above this area here because as we can see, it's nice. bright blue, which means there are underground water deposits there. I hope you like being contaminated. Thanks to the electrical department for tweeting the hashtag "We have power." I mean, in theory, no one has power yet because nothing is connected. Well, first things first, this one.little road icon means we need. a path to this or people won't be able to go to work, so we'll give them the best way I know to get there. a gravel road a narrow, slow-speed unpaved road.
A perfect vehicle road, in fact, while we are at it. So let's use the replacement option to make it a little harder for this ambulance to navigate. Oh, nice correction and then straight into an electric slide. Wait. I can't replace this bridge too. Well, that's not a gravel road, but it was still fun. To see what

happens

, wait, can I put an intersection right here on the bridge and point it where it needs to be? The answer seems to be yes, oh, sorry, I'm not close enough, okay, here we have a little branch, here we go , it's perfect, it even has its own street name and finally, it's time to plug in some power, okay, so we'll do it.
Just go ahead and run this like this and I guess you could do something easy like plug it in right here which will send power directly across the street and then I think in theory that means it's going to power all of these houses so why do that when I can? just run these things everywhere as long as people have power, does anyone really care? Well, that's probably pretty good, right, just a nice splash of electrical wires all over our Fair City. Now let's move on to water and wastewater, check this out. we have two types of pipes, we have water pipes and sewer pipes, we could make them together but that sounds too convenient, so in order for all these water pipes to actually get water, we have to use something like a water pump station that extracts water from a lake. or river and that's exciting because that means we're going to get all of our water out of this river and as you can see by all these arrows here, that's the direction the water is flowing, which doesn't seem like it matters right now, but it does. will do.
So we're going to put one here right next to what's contaminating the groundwater and all we have to do is connect this pipe and drag it over here to an existing pipe and we'll break up this gravel road for Another gravel road so that People can get there too. Bless the fact that they all have different names and here we go, all that water is flowing freely now and lastly we're going to deal with the wastewater which will be handled by this wastewater outlet that pumps out the wastewater. in the environment by that I mean we take one of these things and we put it along the coast, it's literally just a pipe that will dump water right into the river, so my hope is that when that thing starts dumping sewage , go downstream towards this thing. and send that as drinking water to all those unsuspecting citizens, let's see if it works, yeah, and that's how we know we connected it right.
Why stop with one? Let's go ahead and add as many of these as we can. Oh yeah, here we go. magic and some of these aren't littering yet, but that's probably because we don't have as many citizens, so we're really going to have to increase our population from a whole 22 people because we need more people to shit more to pollute. These rivers, as you can see, are already starting to have an effect like that, I mean that brown stain in the otherwise clear river water, so to start, we're going to build all kinds of random things, After all, what is the point of having a giant complex like this if there is no one living there, then we will try to listen to all the demands they have.
Who would have thought that there would be a huge demand for offices, commercial and commercial industries? It's almost like people want a place to work and not just Blair Witch staring at her air conditioning all day too, oh my god look at this big kid, don't mess with this kid, they'll ruin you, oh but what? Where should we put everything I don't know about you, but? This looks like ideal farmland. I mean, it probably isn't, but that's what we'll use it for. Well, now we just want to establish what farmland is viable and we'll drag it to every corner we can.
I don't care how. As far as this extends to the ocean, make all these farmlands work for you, wonderful, one more perfect landmark in our city, it's like Godzilla had a claw that was sticking out, it turned into a field, Look, now, this is the spirit of agriculture. I like to call this making the most of it. I mean, they don't seem to care about the river surge, so why should we use all this amazing space near our entrance to put all our stuff, like supermarkets, shopping malls, hotels, movie theaters? I'll just shove them here in the most inconvenient way possible.
I have a feeling this will be where most people in the city will work and since all these roads are one way, I guess that means going to work. people are going to have to drive all over the city to this space, to the freeway and then drive back through all this crap just to get to work, oh yeah this is really coming together. Look at this beautiful little town center that we've created for ourselves, we even have foot traffic and you know this guy must be pretty tough because there was no easy way to walk here from the city or town whatever we call it. this mess and we can't forget about all this usable space here and we could just put offices or whatever in these spaces, but it feels too clean, so I have an idea, let's demolish all these existing roads first and before adding any. own paths, let's play with this, the landscaping tool, specifically this section right here, terraforming tools to shape the land, okay, let's see how this works, oh, there you go, okay, so hold on, I have kind of a plan here and it's not. necessarily to make mountains or anything after all we want to use this space for something and I just take the gravel road and I can just pass this through the oh it looks like you can because it's all blue oh cool it made a tunnel I didn't even know that was an option and now we're going to continue with our nice Gravel Road and just go around it like this and then go around it a little bit more looking cool, okay, okay, I may have gone a little overboard. but if you give me curvy roads I'm going to want to do things.
I honestly don't even know how this will work as there are so many places where paths just cross each other and there is also surprisingly little signage at these large intersections. I mean, thank goodness for letting us know there are no U-turns and I even pulled up a little more ground to add more stuff and although much of it is off the ground, there are plenty of roads that are actually still gravel, like this one part. here, which means it's all the space we can use to put different areas of things, including this right here. I hope someone uses this to build their dream home, so we'll go ahead and use this space to fill in random office buildings and then I'll mix some housing in there, maybe something industrial.
I mean, I'm pretty sure it's not recommended to just mix all these things together, but obviously we don't care, I just want to give our city a nice pop of color, okay, that should be it. do it maybe and now we just wait and see how the build goes, and also look, we have someone on the way now we can finally see how this is handled, so it looks like you can activate them, which makes this much more versatile. your news, which I guess is probably a good thing because it means people can get to the freeway faster and then run away from this situation forever or apparently this guy will pull over and almost get hit by a car and then head back into town again.
I get it, I just couldn't leave it behind, well, so far, so good. I'm really surprised that things are being built here. Thank goodness a gas station is being built right next to this pharmaceutical company, all on a gravel road, oh yeah, and that's it. spirit look at this place absolutely horrible death defying parking places and also this nightmare of trying to visit any of these storefronts like this amazing bank hey you want to go to this ATM you better really want to slip and fall it can be a problem and Some of these places seem surprisingly normal, I mean, until you walk away and realize it's on a cliff and if you're an employee remember to always use this door because this one over here could be a problem, but thank goodness there is a security camera. that can catch you falling to your death.
I'm trying to decide if this seems like a fancy, desirable neighborhood or not. On the one hand it looks nice and quiet and safe and you have these delicious backyards, but on the other hand your view is also of this pile of smoke, I don't know, I guess it's some kind of mix, oh this is definitely the smarter house, because they actually built a fence, everyone else is free to fall to their deaths and this place has amazing outdoor furniture, oh you know. There's one more thing we still need to add and that's a fire department and a police department and I think I know exactly where to put them here so take a look at this right here, it's our eighth wonder of the world.
I can tell from the borders that that's the amount of land we actually own and can build on, but if we leave all that behind and wander over here on these little islands, you can see this other line appears, this is the real border of how far away We can buy land and build on it, so if I click on this little icon here, it shows us all the available land that we can buy, as you can see, there is a lot of room to grow and I want to be able to build on all of this. quadrant so I'm going to buy all this space.
I am very glad that you give me all these statistics. I mean, I'm not going to use them, but I'm glad they're there. Okay, now is a good time to build some more. Oh. and get this, we even have the option of having a firefighting helicopter. The depot houses five helicopters ready to take off at any time. No, thanks. We are going to use this fire station, a small station that houses some fire trucks. Yes, that definitely. It sounds more about my speed and oh my gosh look at the police options we have a police station, police headquarters, a prison and the Central Intelligence Bureau, you will get a normal police station and you are going to like it, yes, and of course.
We will need roads, all one-way, of course, which will allow us to turn this into this. Now I know what you're thinking. We've already done a lot of things about roads, but this lot is a little different. as a reminder here with this, all of these roads actually intersect so that people can make the decision to turn if they so choose, but all of this here, not a single one of these roads intersects with another road, which means that there are You have to go through these one way only. streets, these fire trucks have to go all this route and boy, it's going to take a while, but hey, you know we're supposed to have fire services and now that we have them, don't worry, they'll be there soon to help. your great-grandchildren Maybe because you're going to be gone a long time, this ship passing below is probably like what the hell is this?
This shit wasn't on any of the lists, oh yeah, that's what we like to see all the poop come out of. All the shots will slowly but surely change the color of that water and I mean, some citizens are complaining about seemingly dirty water coming into their homes, but what do you expect from the people in crybaby alley? You already know. I wonder something we've done. we have all these big, beautiful rivers right and we also have this big, beautiful terrain tool and I use it to separate the water from the rest, so now we've effectively created our own little lake and then if we just take these things and relocate them here, will it work here too?
Oh yeah, everything is going well and now that most of these things are doing their thing, can we take this little puddle of water here to reduce it even further and this will help? it actually turns another shade of brown as I watch this. I think I have another question that needs answering. I couldn't help but notice that the water line here is much lower than the water line here, which I guess makes sense. everything comes from a river, oh you know, I forgot this would happen, but it makes sense now that I see it. I'm glad these cars don't care at all either and neither does this person just hanging out in their yard, nothing is going to stop them from enjoying their music, this is kind of exciting, isn't it especially the part where we now know that Can these Vans become amphibious vehicles?
I mean, if you have places to be, you have places to be. True, the lost secrets of Atlantis wait for no one, you know, I think I was doingall this wrong. I was trying to get the shitty water to the people, but I'm pretty sure I did it the other way around and by that I mean, surely this counts as Shoreline now, can I pick up some ground right behind these people's houses? and then just bring them the trash? It sounds like it's a yes, oh sorry about your backyard, we had to do a little remodeling here, we got some free fertilizer, no, don't worry.
It's not a problem for us, it's just one of our many ways to give back to the people of Sagula their poop property. Well I certainly like the sound of this plan, just when you thought your neighborhood couldn't get any fancier, the city introduces new features to surprise you. and Delight, I love it, it's like the dough is taking over this house. Well, I guess all that's left to do now is go neighborhood by neighborhood and see if we can improve your experience with a little personal touch. I want to thank Paradox. again for giving me access to an early version of the game so I could make this video and also for sponsoring the whole thing, so if this game sounds interesting to you and you want to know more, check out the link in the description and then you too can be ready for when City Skylines 2 comes out on October 24, 2023.
So I hope you had fun. I know I did, let me know in the comments if you want to see more of this and I'll see you next time.
