This GLASS PEN is Unlike Anything I've Ever Used!...

Feb 27, 2020
Hi guys, I have a new pen. Good morning

ever

yone, I'm jazzy and from time to time I've seen these calligraphy videos or line art videos floating around the place or gifts where they use

this

strange

glass

pen. This is my set of pencils and pens and all that, and I have three preferred methods for creating lines, let me take them here first. It's a fine line, pretty simple, it still has felt tips so there's a little bit of give so you can make some thinner lines and then you can make some thicker lines as well. Then we have the brush.

The flexibility is incredible. I feel so good. This is the uh Tombow wsbh150. It gives you that control but also a little bit of that flexibility. The rubbery feel almost like a plastic tip gives me the control I want when I want to make outlines and fine lines like that, but it also allows me to make thicker outlines and some really expressive lines, and I've seen

this

around. and I have no idea what the problem is, but it is made of

glass

. I can't imagine it's going to be that flexible, but look at it, I wanted to try it and see what the problem is, see if there are pros and cons and see.

More Interesting Facts About,

this glass pen is unlike anything i ve ever used...

Whether I hate it or love it, this might be my new favorite thing, I mean it looks cool so I bought this kit of stuff, I don't know what it is, that's what this video is about, we have

ever

ything set up here. Look at this cute little one, you can take some photos while drawing with you. This is the thing that wets the ink well and comes with some inks. Here hippopotamus is a large mammal of freshwater species of hippopotamus. What do you mean by this inc. African? The ostrich is the only species of ostrich and also the representative of the bird.

Damn, this got kind of shiny inside. I feel like I need to shake it. Do this professional move and shake all four at the same time so they are well mixed. now and as you can see they have taken on a more consistent color but they definitely have some kind of magical properties that we are going to want to explore so let's turn a new leaf here and start with a bit of a double of everything that came in the package that I bought ooh , I missed one thing, look at this, which will be to transfer the ink to the inkwell, let's take a photo, what are we going to start with something more boring, let's go on a camel, let's start?

What surprises me is that I'm not going to dive back in, oh why how long is it going to last so long? Well I find that impressive, you can see there are some thinner ones. thicker bits and pieces and could be due to the angle of the pen or the pressure against the paper. I have no idea, let's fill this out a little more, can we get started? Obviously the line is a little thicker there because I can't control the flow of ink, but I'm going to do this for a while and see how much time I have left, so now obviously we're starting to fade and that's when it started to dry a little.
I've done calligraphy before in a previous video and that was something that got on my nerves a little bit - how much you have to re-dip, so maybe that's the point of this pen because, as you can see, I have these glass grooves They swirl around and I guess when you hold it upright, they hold the ink that just falls down and then as you draw, gravity just pulls the rest of that ink away. down I didn't know what the point was turns out there is a point only she keeps giving and giving and giving oh wow new page so we have three more inks to try we have hippo, ostrich and giraffe I think instead of just drawing scribbled lines which I'm sure you've found completely entertaining and enjoyable so far I'm going to draw, you guessed it, editing made it a lot faster, okay, here we have the hippo on the left, so I'm going to open up the ink on the hippo and we'll see how well it goes. they complement each other.
Now I'm pretty aware that this might be specifically for calligraphy. I could be wrong. I haven't looked for it. It probably should have been like that. It's actually a pretty pretty blue ink. How is it to fill? in solid areas it's not so bad the fact that this is all still a dive is pretty impressive. I'll be honest, it's not the most comfortable drawing experience, the feeling of glass scratching paper, it's not something I'm familiar with yet. Let's see how a large area is filled with ink, oh my goodness, I did the whole hippo in two dips, I did one dip for the line and then another dip for the shading.
Finished all. The line shading is, uh, it's actually like quite, quite nice, quite satisfactory, I'm really impressed, that's a two-dip drawing right now, obviously, I could have done it with a traditional fine marker or a non-ink pen. dipping it, it's a big deal, maybe I mean if you like to use fancy inks, obviously if you wanted to do this with different inks you would normally have to have different pens, but in this case you could get different fancy inks and have one pen, so there's a benefit, the other benefit is, I mean, look at this. glorious moving on now let's draw the ostrich with ostrich ink this is a bit more of a mix between a purple and a motion the other thing i'm noticing is that i'm very clumsy when i draw but my lines tend to be very thick and use a Instrument like this really not only limits how thick I can draw lines, it actually forces me to press more lightly, so if you want to learn to have a lighter hand when drawing, maybe that's it. that's not a benefit because the reality is that for someone like me, who is very tough, if I use a very thin liner like a .1 or a .05, I have been known to destroy them very quickly because I can't help it. press firmly when I draw, whereas with this thing, if I really did that, I'd probably break the pen oh, this is intense, can I do it?
The ink reserves have arrived ah wow what an adventure that was a drawing of two dives again I still have it what's next giraffe that to me looks like a vermilion this is almost like a golden color this is still my first dive people oh my God, I am I'm going to see how solid I can shade mainly with the last of my glass pen. What's that? I broke some glass. I don't think so, because it's a bit of paper. Yes, I'm scratching the paper. Alright. right, I'm going to do two dips, obviously that's as far as you can push it, but I'm going to try to take my second dip quite far to see if I can shade his entire mane in a solid color, I certainly feel like I'm taking this to the limit, but I think I'm going to get there, I got there, I made it, I did two dives, look at that, okay, color me impressed or at least color me ostrich, so there it is.
I'm completely impressed with the lack of immersion needed, but the lack of flexibility isn't my favorite thing, but I'll come back to this in a moment and compare it directly to an illustration that I'm going to make two versions of. of my usual ink pens and this is just to directly compare the experience and also the results, but before we do that, let's do a little research in this video, what is that glass pen called? Last dip pens aren't just for writing well. instruments, but often works of art that allow a pen enthusiast to truly express their inner personality.
Many also use them for drawing. Well, back to my illustration, the ink should have dried well. I'm just going to see if I can. erase the sketch below normally no, no I can't, well that limits my drawing options, it only smears like the thick sections, unless I draw very thin, then erase my sketches and then go in and add more ink, I think That might be my only option, I'll do it, but anyway, without further ado, I'll compare the glass pen to the reliable ink pens I rely on for all my illustrations in a direct comparison of the aesthetics when creating the same illustration. .
I'm going to draw them side by side first with my favorites and then with the glass pen and just share my experience and some of the pros and cons and obviously as a result we'll be able to see what the outcome of both of them is. These look directly compared to each other, so I thought it would be fun to draw two characters facing each other, twins maybe or clones, I don't know, I couldn't come up with a story, but basically I wanted to try to pit them against each other effectively. I removed the two slash ink styles against each other and thought the best way to do this would be with some sort of mirror image.
I just did this with my usual inking methods, starting after my sketch of course, using my usual method. medium point fine liner, so the one that had a bit of a flexible tip so I could get some variation in line thickness, I had some shading with a simple 0.4 fine liner and then filled in larger areas of ink with my brush now We move on to the mirror image and this is where things get a little different, first of all, it's very blurry. After all, it's a ballpoint pen, so you're working with ink and it takes longer to dry, on top of that, with a lack of proper line thickness variation or responsiveness with a very solid glass nib.
It was a pretty uncomfortable drawing experience. I don't know, I wouldn't go for this like my usual pens, but it was pretty fun to use and I think I should address some of the pros here and that's really learning how to use an ink medium and something that's a little more traditional and gave me something where I got to experience a process that I wasn't

used

to, so at the same time, it was a challenge. I felt like I could learn a lot from working with this as well. I think the glass pen is as much for the joy of the aesthetic of the pen itself as it is for actual use, so I'm not entirely sure.
It's supposed to be the most practical pen in the world, but I tried it at university with my less experienced hands and was very pleased with the result. I tried mixing some of the other colors that came with the pen. and yeah, I don't know, it got a little complicated and it was probably a little over the top, but hey, it's fun and that's what it's about, so this is the result of my experiment on the left, we have the reliable hero. -to the ink pens and then to the right I guess we could say unexpected um antagonist character I don't know what I drew here I just tried to use all the things I think it's probably more complicated than I would have liked but I don't know how to use this, so I think I could definitely learn to use it better, but I have learned some of its pros and cons.
The pros, of course, are the things I've mentioned for a dipping ink. Write it down, it has good longevity and also the lack of flexibility provides, I guess, a really reliable clean line for the most part, of course the downside is that there is a lack of flexibility, but you know, let's call it what it is. The biggest advantage and the most important reason you want to get one of these things is because it's shiny either way. It has been a learning experience. I'm not familiar with it, so it's obviously not the best results in the world, but it's cool to compare it to what I know. and I'm familiar and interested in your thoughts on what those of you who have experience with this might be doing differently and maybe what I should try if I were to do something super ambitious on a big piece of art if I went back and revisited this, Let me know in the comments below while you're there, of course, go ahead and hit that subscribe button so you can have more fun with art and creativity and play with me with new fun and creative things in the future.
