living

full-time on the road would be our RV parks, our diesel, our shopping, our adventures, and if you thought you'd be wrong, our biggest expense while

living

full-time on the road is been maintaining and

repair

ing this RV and that truck and today we are going to delve into all the

things

we have had to fix and

on this RV, as well as all the costs associated with taking care of both things while living full time in the road, remember that our XP 3.0 electric bike contest is currently underway.

I mean, at the bottom of the list of our monthly expenses, we had no idea that category would end up being the largest monthly expense we would incur while living full-time on the road and this RV and that van, and that's because I didn't recognize that if you live and travel full time and move frequently, you will incur more repair costs than just simply maintaining that truck over there.

More Interesting Facts About,

these things are money pits everything that we ve had to repair fulltime rv living...

We are going to talk about each item of maintenance, repair and upgrade. that happened on our full time trip. Now we made some updates before moving on to it, but today is about

everything

that happened from day one when we started our full time journey two years ago and we are going to start with the truck oil changes if you live and travel on time complete on the highway, you will be ruined with the miles and will need oil changes, we have had eight so far for a total of 880 dollars, now we go to the Ford dealer for this service because they only charge 110 dollars we use the on-board computer to tell us when it is time changing it we've gone as little as 5,000 miles between changes when driving through the mountains of Colorado and we've gone as little as 5,000 miles between changes to 9,000 miles between changes when you're home on vacation, but oil changes you'll need a lot of oil changes, fuel filters, this is another important routine maintenance thing to take care of especially if you have a diesel, now we change our fuel filter every two oil changes and it costs us 175 dollars and we do it at the Ford dealership when they are changing the oil we spent a total of 700 on fuel filters batteries now this is an expense that we did not plan because it is not normal maintenance, but our batteries broke down and so did this truck.

It costs us $331 and 14 cents to replace both batteries in this truck, so when we finished our first trip out west we realized that the airbags we installed in this truck were bad. They weren't big enough, we had 5,000 pound air bags and it took all the system pressure to inflate the truck so we decided to change or upgrade them to 7,500 pound air bags and that cost us 657.56 since We decided that at the same time that we had upgraded the shocks on this truck, we went from the original Ford shocks to the Bilstein 5100 shocks and that cost us 402.99 for some new shocks.

Air filters. His truck loves fresh air and when our first air filter went bad, we decided. to replace it with a lifetime washable air filter that cost us 98.50 because this truck likes fresh air. Another update we made was for the Ford death wobble. We never had it, but we decided to upgrade our steering stabilizers to prevent that from happening. We install it. the dual icon stutter stabilizer kit and it cost us 440.65 cents. After our first year we had 44,000 miles on these tires and they went through the roof and that's because we didn't rotate them even once because in a dual you have to take the Take the tires off each rim and move the tires to different rims to do it correctly, which cost us 1722.
Now this year we are rotating the tires with a different oil change and right now we have 40,000 miles on it and it looks like it's going to work. It gave us a little more life but not much, we started having problems with our onboard air system and found out we had water in the spigot and that caused the pressure switch to go bad and the check valve to go bad because they were rusty which cost us 79 and 80 cents to repair. After fixing the pressure switch and check valve in the air system, we decided to install a remote drain valve to make sure there was no more water in the system.
It runs our entire Ford Outfitter. switches and it cost us seventy dollars we actually walked around with our bed cover and it was absolutely free thanks to one of you so one of you noticed there were scratches on my bed cover when I folded it up during towing and they said in You actually have a great warranty with backflip, so we contacted backflip archive to claim and they sent us our new brake bed cover for free. This cost me a lot and it's all my fault. I decided to hit the brakes a little. too much time ended up costing me two new rotors because I used the front where there were no more brake pads and ended up damaging both front rotors.
This went from a normal maintenance item to a major repair that cost me 1184.72 cents when you add it all up. That's 6567.36, that's how much

money

we spent in the last two years of full-time life to maintain, repair and upgrade this truck. Now everyone wants to see how much it costs to take care of this right here. a little more we have a washer and dryer installed in our motor home and it cost us 2865 to install them at a dealership in Texas. Well we drove to Florida and it was our first night in the RV and we tried to use the washer and dryer and it didn't work, we called the dealership again and they told us it wasn't their problem because we didn't pay for after sales service and we had to go to Splendid to get it repaired, this was actually the best thing about This is because we called Splendid and they have great customer service.
It was an inconvenience, but they came and fixed

everything

for free and it didn't cost us anything to get our washer and dryer working one of the first nights we lived in this RV. We decided we enjoyed the outside and turned on that light, that light and the one over there the next morning, we woke up and none of those lights worked, turns out the bulbs were bad so we upgraded to LED bulbs and we haven't had any problems. in the last two years since then and that cost us 16.29 as we started traveling more it seemed like every time we moved more things fell apart, more specifically the decorative pieces of our roof, so one, that one, and even the one up there. eventually they all fell off while moving so another trip to the blue tent and 10:40 pm later we installed Better Fasteners and glue and they haven't fallen off since the first time we spent the night in the RV when it was raining we found out that our slide The trim here on our big slide holds water well when it holds all the water, it's an excessive amount of weight and it actually started pulling on the top rail of the slide on the side of the RV, so I went to the blue store and I got some screws and a little more sealant and that cost me 19.79 to do that repair during our travels we started to notice that the front cover area right here we are starting to separate and that's because they only put one, two, three screws to securely hold this section.
I had these screws in the sealant to attach the sliding cover, so this one was free, but we had to repair all that there and the one on that side too because they came separately. This is one of our most expensive upgrades and it is an improvement because if we didn't do it it would have caused a major repair when we first got our RV we had large gaps between the bed of our truck and the bottom of our fifth wheel and In fact, we hit each other several times. We had to manage the issue until we could make the change, but this box of Gen Y pins here cost us $1,513.
We found a leak in our Nautilus system, specifically at the back of the water heater, our water heater, for those who can. I can't stand him calling it a water heater. We had to buy new PEX. The new tools and accessories cost us 142 dollars and 62 cents. We have three air conditioning units in our RV. We are in the main one, one in the living room and one in the. kids room and this thing goes through filters like crazy, especially when you are in a place where there is dust and dirt like in the west. We have spent a total of 510.72 cents on filters for our ACS.
We got to the campground one night and realized that all that headlight was just nowhere to be found, it was gone and there was no other damage to the side of the RV from hitting something so we don't know why or what got it , but it was no longer there. We ordered one from Amazon and it cost us. 17.99 to replace that light over there we were driving one day, we stopped at a rest area and our whole underbelly here was dragging the ground, we made the repair at the rest area and got to a safe place and installed these angles of iron right here to hold it permanently that cost us 150 dollars and 53 cents air intake valves those are the valves that go on your gray tanks so that when you are filling with water air can enter without filling your RV with odors we have three we have one in our kitchen sink, one in our back bathroom and one in our front bathroom and when they don't work you know because I think the gray tank smells worse than the black tank so all three of our compressed air valves went bad. within the three day period I bought three new ones and three replacement ones so next time they come out I already have the part available that cost me 41.64 cents for new air and minute valves this is our front door step major.
One day, this cover here broke, so we replaced it with this one here around 18.37. Along the way we managed to damage our side ski here on our main slide. A rubber repair technician came and helped us and it cost us 448.94. all our awning lights started going out and we have three, one, two and three down there and once they start going out it gradually gets worse. I did the repair myself. I ordered the lights off on Amazon. It cost me 180 dollars. We were driving through the One day on the highway we noticed that our roof was trying to come off the motorhome and that's because right here in the front lid area it was peeling off and exploding with air so which exploded there from the front cover to the front.
AC unit now we ran it for almost nine months because it wasn't leaking yet, but we didn't have much choice. I know you're saying why don't you get a warranty. We are the second owner of the RV and there are a lot of warranties in the fine print and even if we used the warranty claim they were going to replace it with the same poor roof, we finally decided to spend our own money and replace it with an armored RV roof that It has a lifetime warranty that costs. Us, are you ready for our biggest repair that we hadn't planned for?
Eight thousand two hundred dollars to get a new roof on this RV after about nine months of ownership. If you live full time in an RV, you're eventually going to park. your RV somewhere with a lot of humidity to remove the moisture you need a dehumidifier so we got this one here it cost us 291 dollars and 19 cents the wire for the trailer splitter switch got hung up in the bed of One day the truck broke split in half. We went to Lowe's and got a new wild cable and carabiner it cost us 15.99 to fix so we installed a new mattress on our king size bed from rvmattress.com from Brooklyn Beds and It's amazing but it required a repair we didn't think about .
The extra weight of this mattress compared to the original mattress caused our struts to break, as well as the hinges that hold the bed together where it swivels. It costs 60 US dollars. To buy heavier strokes and new hinges, I was recently working on my oven and thought the boardcontrol was defective, so I ordered a new control board. It cost me 93.99. Turns out that wasn't the problem but I didn't have a spare but while troubleshooting I discovered that the fan wheel on my boiler was actually broken so we put that in too for 11.99. One day I was inspecting the motorhome and discovered that all the running lights on the back of the trailer were broken, so I have one. two three four and five and all the glasses were broken.
I think it's due to sun damage and UV rays, so I ordered a new set on Amazon. It cost me 13.90 to replace all those lenses. Our sink started leaking right here around the drain. one day it was just the seal around the drain valve, so we went to Lowe's and got a new sealant. 9.70 cents later, both sinks were serviced every year, we do major maintenance, we pressure wash our frame and recoat it with a fluid film that prevents any rust, this costs us 121.88 to maintain the generator. Now we don't use this often, but we use it and take care of it every year, regardless of the hours of operation, it costs us 180.99 to take care of the wheel bearings on the generator we took.
We take care of our wheel bearings every year or every 12,000 miles and do the work ourselves. It costs us about a hundred dollars for new seals, new grease, and a bunch of brake cleaning to clean and thoroughly inspect everything before putting it back together. Our NOCO refrigerator has been great but we have a bottom shelf that has crisper drawers installed and when you take them out it opens the lid automatically, it's a piece of plastic that has the mechanism that makes that happen and it broke and you can't just buy that , we actually had to do it. buy the new bottom shelf assembly it costs us 125 dollars and 16 cents to fix the crisper drawers.
Our RV has full body paint and we love keeping it clean. We usually do it ourselves, but there have been times where I have paid someone to take care of the details. The double actually cost me $350. We upgraded our battery and our RV to a lithium battery, which means our original converter would no longer work, so we upgraded to a progressive Dynamics lithium converter and it cost us $283 and 13 cents, these sewer hoses. They aren't cheap here and I had to replace two for $110. The first one the maintenance team stepped on and crushed it. The second one looks like it got a little closer to its herbivore anyway.
I had to replace it. twice our air conditioner motor started squealing one day and it only got worse we decided to do the work ourselves and it cost us 125.98 we decided to update the inside of the RV and Alicia wanted me to add tile around the fireplace so We put tile around the fireplace and she loved it so much that she asked me to put it around the kitchen backsplash, so there it is on the kitchen backsplash and we also put it in our master bathroom. This costs us 129.96 water hose. I had a battle with the zero gravity water hoses at first, they were great but suddenly they start leaking all the time, even the new ones right out of the box were leaking.
I spent over $200 replacing leaky water hoses in a short time. We had the original roof on this RV, we had to do some maintenance on it now ours comes with a vinyl roof but vinyl and TPO roofs require this same type of maintenance. You need to reseal it every six months with Dicor which is a self leveling lap sealer we spent 144.49 on dicor you always need lube this box here is our lube box we have grease we have more grease we have dry lube we have wet lube and all these lubes to take care of the RV on the truck costs us four hundred dollars when you turn on the lights you expect something like this to go, that's what you expect.
Well, at one point we developed a flicker and that one right there and we started calling this club momentum because it was flashing like crazy and it finally stopped. working fine, we bought new bulbs on Amazon for 57.99 and replaced them ourselves, however they only sell them to you in a bag of six, which is good because when we replaced them based on the part number, the shade of white it contained it didn't match. so we ended up replacing that one right there so they would have matching whites. We are now waiting for the next satellites to start flashing and have four more replacements ready to go.
I like to wax the RV and truck and it really just takes it. time and commitment, but I have spent a total of six hundred dollars on waxing and polishing supplies for the RV and bug spray for trucks. No one likes bugs in their RVs, so we mix some bug spray in this container and spray the jacks, tires, sewer pipes, and electrical connections every time we install to prevent bugs from getting into the RV. recreational vehicle. We spent 108.84 cents on bug spray tank treatments. We use the bio Geo method which is Zep borax and happy camper for their gray tanks.
Dawn borax and happy camper. For your black tanks we now have four tanks, two black and one gray, and we treat our tanks before each move, which is generally every seven to ten days. We have spent a total of a thousand dollars on tank treatments, one of the biggest improvements we made at Toy Hauler was that we needed to make our girls room more usable, so we got rid of the Happy Jack couches and built a bread frame , this one here that matches the factory one above. This cost us $350, but now our girls have two usable queen beds in their room.
Our new RV Armor roof does not require any maintenance, the only requirement is to keep it clean, so we clean it every three to six months and inspect it in looking for damage and it has cost us 55 dollars in cleaning materials water filters we had this blue technology r33 stage water filter as well as the onboard one from Grand Design we have spent a total of 564.63 on water filters we never used our bathroom back so we decided to make better use of the space so I built this shelf right here to go above the shower, we kept the baby diapers, the wipes, the swim diapers and I had this rod right here to store our winter gear .
I also had enough leftover wood to build a shelf or roof for the top of Buddy's cage so that it is protected from the things above and we can store things on top of it without falling on it. I spent a total of 200 on these two projects to disinfect our fresh water system, since we live full time we normally disinfect our entire drinking water system twice a year which involves bleach and new anode rods as well as a lot of time and we have spent a total of one hundred dollars taking care of a freshwater system.
We didn't just damage our slide once we made it. we did it twice and the second time we did it better because we stepped on the slide when it was on the lay in a rest area which caused the floor to fall off the wall and we had to fix the floor and both skis of the slide which cost us 605 dollars and 33 cents sofa handles these sofas have handles and they break all the time we spent a total of 22.99 account handles and when you add all that up the total cost to maintain, repair and upgrade this RV behind me comes up to Seventeen thousand seven hundred and twenty-five dollars and 43 cents, that's a lot of money no matter how quickly you say it, but that's not the total cost when you add up the cost of the trailer and the truck, which makes a total of twenty.
Four thousand two hundred ninety-three dollars and fourteen cents, that is the amount of money we have spent to maintain, repair and upgrade the motor home and truck over the last two years of living full time on the road. Alright guys, I hope you enjoyed this video and I.
