The Ultimate Roulette of Speedrunning

May 12, 2024
Things seem to happen all the time and sometimes a meme pops up every once in a while.   Forbidden Memories still have a considerable cult following today. Many people use the game's quick run card mods, where you get more cards than just 1 by beating an opponent, which makes the drops a little less significant, but is much more forgiving when it comes to the time you spend running . like an everything. Forbidden Memories also has a ton of fan-made romhacks with the goal of continuing to expand the world of Forbidden Memories while maintaining the fusion system that made the game so memorable.

People just wanted more FM, so the fans got to work. However, even today in 2022, Yu-Gi-Oh! FM

speedrunning

still has a loyal fan base. People still race in the game from time to time and world record attempts are streamed on Twitch fairly regularly. Racers tagerplayer and matt13 have had good paced runs to beat Onion's record, but something always goes wrong during the final challenge, but my money is on these two players to improve the record, or maybe any of the top players Japanese.  It's hard to tell how active their scene really is due to the language barrier and most of them stream on nicovideo instead of Twitch.   It would be foolish of me to have a channel dedicated to the history of PlayStation

and not talk about Forbidden Memories.

More Interesting Facts About,

the ultimate roulette of speedrunning...

It is a game that has gone down in history as one of the biggest RNG festivals in all of speedrunning. Some people can't understand why you would ever run a game like this where nothing is under your control. On the other hand, you can sit back and relax, knowing that wherever the game takes you, you'll be along for the ride.   Forbidden Memories is quite random, every playthrough of the game is different and some players love that about the game. I've run games like Ratchet & Clank and Mirror's Edge, both games with extraordinarily high skill caps with their deep movement, and to be honest, it's nice to not have to worry about how well you play all the time.

That's not to say that Yu-Gi-Oh FM is just playing with two heads and winning lol. At the beginning of the game, you need to know a lot of different fusions that you will mostly learn through trial and error. There is a lot of knowledge you need to know when it comes to reaching certain ranks in specific duelists, there are things like guardian stars, drop rates, memorizing password codes, remembering what cards the opponent can play, etc. RNG is often overlooked in speedrunning, but without it games are more likely to reach their final destination. Our journey through speedrunning is about slowing down the games we love in a collaborative effort, but we never stop to think about what happens when we reach the end, when a time simply maxes out.   The fact that Forbidden Memories has so much RNG effectively ensures that the game's log history is endless.
