The Ultimate Guide to Cricut Infusible Ink

Mar 27, 2020
Wait, come out and this is Angie with a network of country cabins. Today's video is sponsored by Michaels and Cricket and I'm going to talk about Cricket's new Infusible Inc product that is available exclusively at Michaels starting June 21st if you have I haven't seen this it's just amazing so what is it ? First of all they are unworkable ink transfer sheets in both solid colors and patterns and then they also have

infusible

ink pen sets and also markers and various colors so I have a try a product to try and then they also have their own blanks that you can put it on, so a blank is something like a bag or a t-shirt or coasters that we're going to do like it is in this video because you want to look for a stamp that says it's compatible with fuse ink, so which is not feasible so it's sublimation it's like sublimation but this is a brand new product on the market so you can cut it with your Cricut machine and then it gives it the look and feel like you inked your shirt but you cut it off with your machine, you apply it with your Cricut easy press easy press choose recommended that you can also use the original easy press but you need something that reaches a really high heat and then infuses that ink into the fabric of whatever you put on it, whether a shirt, a tote bag or a coaster, and it has to have some kind of coating so you can't just run to the store and buy a cotton shirt. or you know a ceramic tile and you're hoping the ink won't work because it won't transfer, but it might wash off right away, so for the ink to infuse into the material and lock into place, you need to look for those that are Cricut approved. blanks that are also exclusive to Michaels, so you can find them there as well, so let's dive in, see how to use this product first and then we'll talk a little bit about the projects done at the end and a little bit about what we can expect here on YouTube in the future, so today it's all about unviable cricket ink, so what are the products themselves?
the ultimate guide to cricut infusible ink
The ink itself comes in two ways it comes in transfer sheets and they are both solid like this one or you can also get a pattern like this and it also comes in pins and markers so this is an example of the ones there are different colors and then like I said there are also pins that are thinner and markers that are thicker, then there is also heat resistant tape that we will need again. with the

cricut

brand and then there are also blanks, you can tell if a substrate is compatible with ink not feasible by this logo, so if it says compatible with a link not feasible with this logo, then you can use it with the transfer sheets and the pins and workers, so what do they have, so they have a couple of different types of coasters, this is the one I'm using today.

More Interesting Facts About,

the ultimate guide to cricut infusible ink...

They have tote bags again, a couple different types and sizes, this is one of them that they reuse and shirts, rompers, that kind of thing. I'm going to wear this adult women's shirt, but is there a men's shirt or it has tons of sizes and even, like I said, even babies, and then what else are you going to need besides the products shown here? So you will also need a lint roller. It is important that there is no lint on the surface, so a lint roller will help. You may need additional cardstock, so this is just white cardstock and then you may need some butcher paper, so this is just a simple butcher paper and I only have one sheet here, but so do you. you're going to need and then you're going to need your ez press and your easy press mat so first let's get into some projects and talk about how unviable ink works so the first thing I'm going to do is open up these packets and cut out some designs so let's open up a couple of them so you can see what they look like before we cut them out and then I'll cut out some designs using my Cricut machine so you can can be used in Cricut maker or Cricut explore air two and either one and the pens themselves, like this Like the pens and markers themselves, they can also be used in any of the machines and simply place the pins in the pin slot and the ink sheets are not feasible.
the ultimate guide to cricut infusible ink
It is actually similar to a sheet of vinyl or iron-on and is placed directly on the mat, so inside the ink box there is some extra butcher paper. You may need a little more, so you may want to have some on hand, but there is something inside. your package and then this is the pattern version so you can see all of these gorgeous patterns and colors and it comes on sheets with a backing like a vinyl or iron on so the first thing I want to point out is that these sheets are not very shiny when you put them on.
the ultimate guide to cricut infusible ink
I take it out of my package, so they look a lot brighter in the package I bought it in, that's because after you transfer it to your substrate it will light up and look more similar to what you see in the picture here, so Don't be afraid that these won't look as bright as you intended, that will definitely light up. Now what you need to do is place this liner side down on your mat and you will need to mirror your cuts so similar to an iron where you mirror your mat before you cut it, you will need to mirror this.
I'm going to take my mat and I'm going to leave this sheet and this one with the lining side down and then whatever. design that I'm going to cut, I'm going to mirror it before I cut it and then cut it from this sheet and as you can see there's a 12 by 12 sheet. I'm just using my light grip mat so the blue or the green mat would probably work well, that's how to use invisible ink sheets. One more thing to keep in mind is that you'll want to make sure your hands are clean before you touch the invisible ink sheets to make sure they're clean and free of oil that sort of thing and you don't want to touch the sheets with dirty hands, so the pins and the markers, so what you're going to want to do with them is use regular copy paper, so this is a paper that's good for a laser printer and you want to leave it on the mat and then take the pins out of the package, place them on the lot of pins, you will want to rotate the lines to draw lines if you don't know.
How to do it, we have a video for that and I will link it in the description of this video. Then you'll want to mirror your design before you draw, so you'll draw on this side. of the paper and then we're going to flip it over to place it on our substrate, so make sure to match your design, so for the pins we're just going to load it into the clamp and we've already loaded our mat. with the laser paper and then we'll hit the seed and let it draw our design one more time. We've mirrored that design before letting the cricket draw it and that way if you have any text, it will be the correct shape once. you transfer it to whatever substrate you're going to use once it's complete with one color, you'll have a hard time removing that pin and inserting the next color directly into your computer, so this is the ink sheet not feasible and likewise we We're going to cut it out again, we've mirrored the design and this time we're using the fine point blade to cut out our design, so let's talk a little bit about the results of what came out of our machine, so this is with the pins, like this that at this point you can color this end with more pins or markers manually.
I'm not going to leave them just a pin drawing as it came from the manufacturer, so a word of advice when we're moving. any of these is removing the mat from the paper instead of the paper from the mat, so we're just going to fill it back in and now, as you can see, I've been several things on a sheet of paper, so the first ones are going to be for our project, so they are cacti, the second ones are just for some experiments, you can draw random things if you want and the last one says just bytes, but it's backwards, so this is for another project that we are going to do. what you are going to do when you work with the pens, you must make sure to mirror it so that the text is upside down.
Now we can cut them out just with scissors and I'm going to cut each one out individually. You don't just cut them. the heart fills on the side and we'll talk a little bit about what I'm going to do with those pick it out in the video so there's the vibes we'll just leave that aside and then these two will be on coasters and I say that actually , there are actresses or cacti, but there will be two honey coasters, so we will cut them in half and so we have two for our coasters. Okay, now let's talk a little about the unfeasible.
They're not leaves themselves, so this is cut with my creator and the same thing. I'm going to remove the project mat instead of the mat project. Now you probably can't see the cut lines, but they're in this corner and I want to save as much as possible, so I don't want to waste any of this. I want to use it on a few more projects, so I'm just going to use a small paper cutter here. I'm going to crop this out, just make sure it's away from the project, then you can just cut it out and then this can be extra to use in a project later and then you could also cut it out this way and have another small piece, so now we have our project here and now we need to weed it so to weed the unworkable it's not leaves so you're just going to need tweezers with the recommended tools and I'm just going to start in the corner so this is a mermaid tail and it has a word off center , so we'll be waiting for it to come out, we have a lot of excess around the edge, so a trick you can do to not waste any kind of heart from my excess, okay, so I can put that in. something more later and actually something we didn't talk about yet there is a sample swatch on the infeasible ink sheets and this heart could continue like this so if this is my first infeasible ink project I can use the swatch of sample and I can use This heart or a little piece of this thing I just cut it into the circle with some scissors and I can test the unworkable ink before I do a full project so I don't ruin my substrate so that's a tip to use . that and you're not really wasting any material because that was scrap anyway so I might put this on that sample swatch and then test my easy press settings and how well it's going to look now I need to get this word off center like this that what they recommend is bending the material so that it cracks and that cracking will start to lift your design and we can probably get the corner now so we can lift the corner and start pulling.
So far the tweezers are for any areas that have a hard time coming out, so you can grab the blade with the tweezers and keep pulling. Now I want to leave the centers of the letters, so basically weeding is removing any part of the design that you don't want to transfer to your project, so in this case I want to remove the word, so there we have our mermaid tail and you can see that the word was again reflected so that it may be so. recurring when we put it in our project, so now that we have some materials to work with, let's do some projects for illustrative purposes.
In fact, we're going to press one of these hearts on the sample that comes and the invisible ink sheets so that the The first thing you want to do is place a piece of cardstock on your mat to prevent the bleeding from ruining your mat, which will definitely you don't want to do and then we're just going to put the sample that comes. the box of fuse ink we want to put it on the cardstock and then we will simply use a lint roller and remove any residue from the sample, so this part is very important so that any remaining fiber hairs on your substrate can ruin your transfer, so you want to make sure you do this part and then once it's complete we're going to put butcher paper on top so this first press is just to get the moisture out of the blank so you want to go ahead and set up. your easy press so we're also going to use the easy press so we're going to do this 385 and we're going to press for about 15 seconds to remove the moisture so you can use the easy press 1 or the easy press. 2 just an opinion on which one you have, you should follow the instructions for either one if you are using the easy pressure 1 you are going to do a lower temperature but Allah is ok you are also using the easy pressure you can do it at a lower temperature high because it rises at a higher temperature so once we remove it we want to let the sample cool completely before adding our sheet of fusible ink so I cut out two hearts so this way I can illustrate how the color changes .
We're going to have one set and we're going to set it aside and we're not going to press it at all and then we're going to have this one that's actually going to be added to the sample and we're going to press it, so what we're going to do is we're going to turn this upside down so that it has the side of the liner up on the sample once it cools and then we're going to press for three at 385 for 40 seconds so you can put light pressure on the handle as you press and you don't want to move the press at all so you want to leave the sample, place the butcher paper on top, press with easy pressure to use light pressure for 40 seconds and it doesn't move, so it doesn't want to move.the easy press because any movement can blur the ink transfer so you don't want to move it at all and then when the beep goes we're going to try to lift the easy press without moving anything from our stack so that's really important since Well , this is cold, so we're just going to add the heart liner up, put the butcher paper on top and then easily press down, press the button, apply light, even pressure for the 40 second wait. to beep and do not move the easy press during this time so now that the easy press is reinforced it is ready to be removed and once again we are going to lift it up without moving the bottom stack, they are going to put it in our base, then we want to let this cool completely, so it's very hot right now, so we want to let this cool completely before we touch it, all right so our stack cools down, so the first thing you can do is remove the butcher paper and now we can lift the liner off our, so we'll just lift it up with our fingers so you can see that we've transferred this ink onto our sample. how it looked before you pressed it this is what it looks like after you pressed it so you can see the difference in color and how much more vibrant the colors are and it will be very hard to see but the ink is actually infused into the fabric and it doesn't settle on top like an iron, so it's more like an ink infused into the fabric before continuing with our projects.
I wanted to show you this stretch that you get with these things and let you know the fact that just when it's complete it's dry, you don't have to wait, it's not like ink as you would know, do the screen printing, it's dry as soon as you take it off, it's dry and it's ready to throw in the washing machine. it's ready to go as soon as your project is completed, so that's another really good thing about non-feasible ink, so now we can move on, we'll put that aside and move on to some of our other projects. like our coasters, so for our coasters, we're going to start by removing any residue with a lint-free cloth, then we're going to take the design that we made with the pins and place it face down on the coaster.
On my easy press mat I have a piece of butcher paper to protect it, then my coaster, then the face down design, and then the heat resistant tape that is from Cricut. You want to tape your design so it doesn't move and then we. If we want to put a piece of cardstock on top, we'll put our ez press that's been heating up at 400 degrees for 60 seconds and this time we don't even have to touch it, we just leave it there 400 degrees 60 seconds okay, once the beep goes , you want to carefully lift the easy pressure up, don't disturb your stack and this is very hot, there is actually a burn warning on the coaster package, we will all have this to quote, come lately. before we touch it and then we'll take a look and see what happened under all this tack, the first thing you'll probably notice is that you remove the cardboard from the top and it may not be noticeable, but it's there that some of the ink comes out of your design has seeped through the paper on this cardstock so you want to throw it away like you don't want to use it again because this ink could transfer to other designs you are working on and you don't want to make that mistake and because it is quite an image clear, you can mix it up, so now I'm going to throw that in and throw in the band, so we want to make sure it's completely cool.
You will burn yourself if you do. No, then we'll just remove this tape and reveal the magic so you can compare. This is what the original drawing was and this is how much brighter it gets once it's pressed onto your coaster. Now these coasters are ready to use this ink. It's been infused into the surface so you don't put anything else on top, just start using them right now, so we made our coaster here with the markers. This is our coaster with the fusible ink transfer sheets, so this is what the transfer sheet looked like. Then, using basically the same method, I transferred this design to a different coaster.
I let it cool completely and I'll lift it up and reveal that beautiful design so you can see the difference between what the transfer sheet looks like and what it looks like. it looks like this after you press it so now i have some lovely coasters and now you can compare so this is what you would do with the pens this is what you do with the transfer sheets so there are two different styles but more or less the same product and equally incredible. Here's an example where you need your tweezers, so I pressed this coaster and removed the transfer sheet and most of it came off with the transfer sheet.
There are a couple small pieces where the ink sheet didn't come off. the tweezers and grab that piece and pull it back and then remove it from the coaster so here's a look at the solid transfer instead of the pattern and here's a piece of that before you press it so you can see the color change and how bright the blue gets once you press it on your project so this is a tote bag so part of the Cricut tote bag blog we're actually going to make another tote bag and we're going to learn a different technique, so the first thing you want to do for the tote bag you're in I'm going to want to put the easy press mat inside the tote bag and cover the whole thing with a piece of white cardstock, so I've used white cardstock along throughout this video to apply my designs to various substrates so it's important that it's white or very light colored so that it doesn't bleed into whatever you're pressing it on with the heat that you're applying so I have my cardstock white inside and I am an easy-press mat on the inside.
Now it is also important that your easy press mat and your easy press should be as large as the design you are pressing, so do not press any design that does not have an easy press that fits it because you can only press this once to than press it down once don't press it and then move the easy press to press it a second time so you only need to press once with the invisible ink now layered so the next part we need to do for the bag handheld is to take a new lint roller and remove the lint from the surface, so this is an important step and also for handbags, jumpsuits, that type of thing, you want to look at the seam and not put pressure on the seam, so that we are.
We're going to take our ez press out of that seam when we press and then we're going to cover it with some butcher paper and we're going to heat it for 15 seconds to remove any moisture, so it's important that it's butcher paper and it's not something like parchment paper or freezer paper or something like that, butcher paper has actually been tested by Cricut, so it's important that you use butcher paper. Some come with non transferable sheets but you can just put the paper on. You can also go to the store on Amazon if you need more so we can talk a little bit about layering while this cools and our easy press heats up so I have here's a design and it's off a stamped and fusible ink transfer sheet that I want to add. a small portion of a solid blue wave right here for this project, so the first thing you want to do is when you're in design space, cut out an area that doesn't have anything for your second layer, so design it so that where the second layer goes it fits right there where there's nothing so you want to use the cut function for that and I have a video on the cut function if you need it and then we're going to remove these pieces from the backing paper that it's on and we'll add them to the backing paper for this pattern, unworkable ink transfer sheet and I'll add a rough location to them, but it just depends on what you're working on, you might want to get them more precisely and now it's all on a transfer sheet and like I said before you don't want to press and then press again so you don't want to do layers traditionally where you would press once, add the second layer and press the second time you want to add them to the backing sheet for the main part of the design so you can press it all at once and be able to place as many colors as you want in one design using the same method, so now this is cool, so let's add our design to this back of the bag.
Remember that you have the easy press mat covered with cardstock on the inside. We have already made the lint roller. I just want to make sure it's straight and where we want it. Press it well so that the transfer sheet adheres to the fabric so it stays in place. We're going to cover it with butcher paper and then we're going to press for 40 seconds at 385. We want to make sure that We're applying pressure to the handle and pressing down and then we also want to make sure that we're covering everything with one press and that we're not in any seams, remember for a tote bag or a jumpsuit or something. and once it beeps, it's already pressed and we just want to be careful when we lift it up so we don't want to move anything while we lift up the easy press and then we'll put it back on the base now we want to. let this cool before removing everything, this is great, delicious butcher paper, you can lift this liner sheet right away, just peel it off carefully and make sure everything transfers.
You have a beautiful design, it's not all in a couple of minutes for this one. Once again you can see the difference in colors from how it looks out of the package and how the ink looks when actually applied to your substrate. It's a big difference and it really makes it stand out, so now let's press this. shirt and we're going to talk about how to layer fuse ink transfer sheets with a design that I drew with genetically viable ink pens so first let's talk about how you make this shirt so I have my shirt on my ez pressed mat and then I'm going to put cardstock on the inside again, it should be white and enough to cover the entire weight of the area where you will add a design just to protect the back of your shirt from any food that might bleed, so we want to use a new lint roller and roll up the area.
Another thing with the lint roller is that you want to roll the entire area that the easy press will sit on, so in this case it's a nine by nine area, although my design may not cover that entire area. Yeah, and once we let it roll, it's going to put a piece of butcher paper on top of it, so this is a v-neck shirt, so again I want to see that seam and I don't want to press ez on that gear, especially when I'm pressing the design itself, so we're going to give it a little bit of pressure for about 15 seconds and get the moisture out of this shirt.
You should also make sure the butcher paper is large enough for the easy press to sit completely on it. and it doesn't hang off the edge, so you don't want to EZ press directly onto the shirt we're going to remove this butcher paper we're going to let it cool what we're going to layer we're going to layer it on a The design is this mermaid that has been cropped out of the unworkable, it's not a sheet and then I use the pen on laser copy paper and wrote vibrations, only you know it's upside down because it's supposed to be reflected and this is going to go under this, so the first thing.
What I did was I cropped the carrier sheet in the ink not feasible as close as I could and I also want to crop the area around my letters as close as possible and I think I want to crop a little bit closer to the V so it gives us plenty of room to be able to attach that, so for this project you're also going to need the Cricut heat resistant tape, so we're going to need a couple of pieces to hold the laser copy paper on while we press our shirt and then we're going to place our mermaid design first and place it in place wherever we want on the shirt and then once it's in place we're going to write the words that we wrote inside these wink pins and then I cut a couple pieces of this heat resistant tape and I'm going to tape them the words I made with the pen.
Now remember when we talk about layers, we don't want to do this in two presses, but I want to do it. all at the same time, so we need to put both on the shirt at the same time so we can make a press that covers both, okay, so we have everything ready, everything is down, we want to cover this with the butcher paper once again. paper, add our easy pressure and we'll press the button and let it count down for the 40 seconds and then once again when it beeps and it's ready, we want to lift it up, try not to disturb our stack and then we'll let it cool completely. and we're going to remove our butcher paper and you might be able to see that the words themselves smear some of the ink on the butcher paper so we want to make sure that we throw this away and not use it for another project and then we can pick up our mermaid design and we can raise our words and there we have a unviable Inc t-shirt with the unviable ink transfer sheets and ink pensunviable so I had a ton of fun making these projects so this is my t-shirt and this is how it turned out so I'm in love with the combination here of the unviable ink sheets with the pens like for combo two and then I made this bag handheld to show what unworkable solid ink transfer sheets could and then we did it.
I also made some coasters and a couple different designs so I could show you the difference between pens and

infusible

transfer sheets. Now these are the square coasters. They also have a round ceramic coaster, so keep in mind that whatever substrate you choose, whether it's tote bag, shirts, baby outfits, toddler shirts, the coasters will be the type instructions may be different for each type, so when you open the package of any blanks you are using or even your fuse ink transfer packages and sheets, they will give you a website to go to that website, look for the instructions for the blank on white you are using and follow exactly to get the results you want and then we also made this tote bag that combines two different and workable ink transfers. sheets, so we talked about layering the two, so on June 21st you're going to want to go to Michael's and get your hands on the vest and play with it.
I guarantee you'll love the look of this, so there's nothing I can do with it. Pictures or videos to show you the amazing appearance of this product, if the ink is really on the surface and it doesn't go anywhere, it doesn't stretch, crack or something when you pull it, it's an amazing product, so what can you expect next here on YouTube? I also took a Cricut Approved Shirt and added some hearts to it why did I do this? On this side I added fuse ink cars, so I added some prints and a solid color and then added a heart with the pen facing up on this side.
I added hearts. with regular flexible sports iron-on and print foil, all in the same shirt, what am I going to do with this shirt? I'm going to take this to the laundromat until I see a difference between ironing and non-ironing, right? And? in physical ink it's supposed to not crack over time it's supposed to last as long as last as long as this shirt lasts and still looks good and just like it was the day you ironed it, so it allows you to get those professional results right at home without investing in a lot of machinery that you would need for sublimation, so this brings that technology to the home craftsman in such a simple and easy way it's amazing, so let's put it to the test.
I'm going to run this. with the clothes as many times as I can and then I try to give you updated results here on YouTube. So what should you do? First of all, like this video if you liked it. The second thing you should do is subscribe to our YouTube Channel Check out all our cricket videos which we will be posting weekly but look for an update on a fuselink in a few weeks. I hope to show you this shirt again in a few weeks. Show you an update. Show you what's happening. with the shirt and which one lasts longer who will be the winner thinking that the fuse links give me in the winter but wait, I want to see it with my own eyes and if you also want to stay tuned and subscribe to this channel, so thank you.
Very much for joining me today. I had a great time playing with unviable ink. I can't wait to buy all the things, all the blanks, all the colors, all the patterns. I can do tons of different projects within fusible links, so stay here to switch if you want. To see more unviable ink projects I will have them for you regularly. I hope as soon as the product is released, thank you very much and see you next week, bye.
