oh when I tell you that this video was requested like no other bicha it was requested like no other now if you are new to my channel hello I have a series where I review different brands talk about the positive and negative aspects from a very critical perspective and the common is not excluded from this, that is why in today's video I am going to talk about the brand in general, what I think about certain products that I have used. ingredient formulations of the brand philosophy and I will also highlight all the positives and all the things I don't like about the brand so let's get into it and one of the reasons I put this video off for so long was simply because It seems like I need to try more products before doing this review video, but I'm actually higher, come on, just do the review.
the truth about the ordinary
People are waiting and, furthermore, I am impatient. I'm ready to talk about this, so just start with the brand overview. The Ordinary is a popular skincare line sold on its own website, as well as at Sephora and Ulta Beauty. They are the most popular due to their significantly low price. The average of their products ranges between five and seven dollars. but they can also go higher, but when people hear common, they know they will get a really affordable product. The line is known for its lack of focus when it comes to the name of the products and the focus they have.

More Interesting Facts About,

the truth about the ordinary...

I focused intensely on ingredient percentages and formulas, which, as a skincare junkie, I appreciate because I'm picky, let's be frank, so when I find a brand like this that is very, very transparent about what ingredients they use, the percentages and what ingredients are not. usage: Hello, you called me. Additionally, the brand focuses very little on advertising, which is one of the reasons why they can make the price of the products so low, but they also have massive manufacturing capabilities that allow them to create such a low price. point for their products because the first time I saw the products I wondered if these products are so cheap.
the truth about the ordinary
I will also say that Ordinary was truly revolutionary when introduced to the skincare community because of its democratic approach to skincare with most companies. You have the products and you have the cost of goods sold, which are basically the costs of the materials used to create the product and then a company will set the retail price and have a large profit margin. It is well known in the cosmetics industry that profit making is crazy, but what is common is different because of how low their profit margins are and how little they focus on the sophisticated visual approach of advertising marketing and more just on the formula and information because it is a very controversial brand, but now we move on to the overview I want to talk about the products that I have used, but what I think about them, as well as the ingredient formulations of each of them and the products that I chose.
the truth about the ordinary
I tried to use the best selling products but also products that are different. Of most of the things you'll find there, as with all my go-to brands, I'm going to rank them from least favorite to favorite, so first up is the Glycolic Acid Toning Solution which is formulated at 7% and pH 3.6 now Yes, I'm not familiar with glycolic acid, it is one of the most powerful chemical exfoliants that works to actually dissolve dead skin cells on your face. I've always loved glycolic acid, but I'm also aware that my skin can be very sensitive to it. It causes a burning sensation and so I have to be very aware of what products I use with glycolic acid and how high the percentages are.
Additionally, this is also a pH of 3.6, which is a pretty low pH. I am not going to do it. getting into the science of pH because I barely know there is a reason I got a C in chemistry oh wait no I got an A because of some miraculous action of God. I really don't understand how I got an A in that class. but anyway, when a product has a lower or higher pH than your skin's natural pH of about 5, you are more prone to irritation, which is why I think this product irritated me so much when I first used it.
Intense burning sensation on the skin and the second time I used it I had to wash the product off, I just washed my face afterwards because I thought "wow girl, a fire is starting on my face and that's not what I meant when I was looking through the screen." Ingredient List I was also surprised that it is formulated with some fragrant components, the main one being rosa damascena flower water, which rosa damascena is a fragrant essential oil, yes it is diluted in water which means it won't be as irritating or intense on the face. but at the same time it is high on the ingredient list, posing a risk of skin sensitivity, which is one of the reasons I'm not crazy about this product.
Honestly, before looking at this ingredients list, I was under the impression. that the common was 100% completely free of fragrant essential oils and every ingredient list I had read of them acted like this, but when I saw this I thought what was the excuse, eh, yeah, I was a little shocked, not impressed and because this as you can see was not used much, moving on to the next product, it is the 10% lactic acid and hyaluronic acid serum. Now, if you're not familiar with lactic acid, it's similar to cholic acid in that it dissolves dead skin cells on your face, but it's the gentlest of the chemical exfoliants, making it ideal for really dry skin. sensitive, but I will say that 10% lactic acid is a bit high, so I would say that if you are someone with extremely sensitive skin.
This may not be the best serum for you. One of the things I like about this serum is that it is so lightweight that it absorbs into the skin. It's one of those two where I just apply it directly to my skin because when I put it on. I put it on my fingers and then tried putting it on my face. I was like, "Oh, where did he go?" It absorbs moisture from the air into our skin which is really good for anyone who needs hydration, almost all of us need hydration in general. I was impressed with this product, it's not my favorite exfoliating product, no, and I think the reason is because it's just a little too gentle for my skin, but the results I saw were very good and overall, looking at the ingredients list, I'm a fan, well moving on to the next product, it's the 10% Niacinamide and 1% Zinc Serum, now if you're not new to my channel, you'll know that I constantly rave about Niacinamide, it's an amazing ingredient not only for reducing oil and great production within the skin, which is great for someone with oily skin, it is also a brightening agent, plus niacinamide also calms. redness and irritation on the skin and I love that it is combined with zinc because zinc is also an amazing ingredient for reducing redness and irritation so someone who has very sensitive or oily skin or acne scars or pigmentation will really benefit by using a nice product and In my opinion it is a powerful serum and I love this one.
So far, it is my favorite niacinamide serum. Whenever I use it, I automatically notice less oil on my face, redness decreases, and I notice a significant difference in dark spots. I always follow up on my acne scars with this product and notice that the dark spots disappear within a week. It's amazing and for the price alone I couldn't ask for a better product and then I move on to my favorite product on the entire market. line, it's the solution aah, a solution at 30% and B at two percent, if you don't know what that means, don't worry, I'll explain it to you.
Ajay refers to alpha hydroxy acid. Alpha hydroxy acids are what he was talking about before, like lactic cholic acid. acid and other ingredients that actually work to dissolve dead skin cells on your face, plus this also has BHA or what is also known as salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is another exfoliating ingredient, but what it does is penetrate deep into the pores and removes any dirt, excess sebum, or oil production, making it the perfect ingredient for someone with more acne-prone or oily skin. With BHA, the highest level you can formulate is 2% and the fact that it's formulated with 30% aah a is crazy.
Other products you can use every day or every other day, but this is a product that should only be used once a week for 10 minutes and that is the maximum amount of time I use it on my face. The reason is because it is formulated at 30%, it will remove dead skin cells from the face and then it is not safe for the skin to endure it any longer and when you look at the ingredients list, you find that the first ingredient is glycolic acid and Lo Next is lactic acid and salicylic acid. There are also other ingredients here that could be classified as fragrant ingredients and there is also relatively high sodium hydroxide in the ingredient list, but I don't see that as problematic at all because this only needs to be on the skin for 10 minutes and then washed off, which It means that any possible irritation that you may see will actually be removed immediately if you want to see instant solitude, dead skin cells are removed and just the overall skin is removed. brighter appearance, this is the product to go for and that is why I love it so much.
I will use it on my face and right after I think, oh my gosh, my skin looks glowing and the last reason why I love this product so much. it's because it literally has the coolest color and texture ever and the reason I say that is because it looks like blood. My 7th grade emo stage loves putting this on my face, it just looks like you're dripping blood all over your face, I know it's sadistic, come for me. My Chemical Romance just got back together. Okay, you can't blame me for being a little emo right now and I know mainstream has a lot of products, but those are the ones I've been focusing on.
For now, if you want another review of more products in the future, feel free to let me know, but now I want to talk about my positives and negatives of the brand, let's start with Auschwitz, the main reason why I love this brand so much. Because they are extremely conscious of ingredients, I find it very difficult to discover a brand that I can truly trust that they are formulating products in the safest way possible. Common is known for being fragrance-free and essential oil-free, and aside from that product, all of the products I've seen are essential oil-free, which I love.
If you want to know my opinion on fragrances and essential oils in skincare, go to the link in the description box below where I talk all about it, but basically. I don't like fragrances, I don't like essential oils, I don't want them in my skincare and I'm very happy to see the common formulas without them, plus this is a brand very focused sometimes on education in the world of skin care. brands get too caught up like, oh, I feel like the texture is better, soft and it smells like lavender, it will make your skin smooth and soft, and I'm like, yeah, yeah, but what are the ingredients?
How do you do that? What evidence do I have that this is actually going to make a difference to my skin and the run of the mill just says so? It's like we use 2% hyaluronic acid, we use 1% zinc, we use 30%, I'm coming. Let's talk about the results and I love you for that. Another reason I love the brand so much is that almost all of their products come in glass containers. Now the reason I love glass containers is so much more than plastic because glass can be recycled. an infinite number of times, whereas plastic can only be recycled about three or four times before ending up in landfills or the ocean and this is definitely the reason why I want to repurchase common so much because I know that the environmental footprint that I am creating with my replenishable products will be minimal compared to buying all plastic products and within this I also want to talk about the ethics of the brand, this is a big reason why I am also a fan of the brand and why do I still having a lot more respect for them if you don't know that Des Iam, the brand that owns

ordinary

, recently announced that they will be having a 23 percent off sale throughout November when I read a little more about it?
I discovered that they are trying to move away from the hyper-consumerism of Black Friday. It's no secret that when Black Friday comes around people go crazy and buy as many skincare products as they can, as many makeup products as they can, simply because it's so much cheaper than the rest of the year and that's why it ends having a lot of waste, it's bad for the planet, it contributes to this really toxic mentality around consumerism and our obsession with products and in the past they said that they have been one of the most profitable companies when it comes to Black Friday, but they decidedclosing their doors on Black Friday and having a month-long sale to give customers time to make smart, conscious decisions about what products they were going to buy instead of playing into FOMO.
I know the fear of missing out and buying a bunch of products that you inevitably won't need and will end up wasting, and honestly, I really respect the brand for that, which brings me to the final reason why I love brands. so much the price that you can't argue with products that cost between 5 and 7 dollars each that is crazy and I have seen some people talk about the common and compare it with brands that are much more expensive and how to drag the brand because the formulations do not They are as good as they think they should be and my answer is the same. $5 you can't compare a $5 product to a $45 product there is a double standard that shouldn't be compared honestly even if the formulas weren't something I liked I would still have a lot of respect for the common for pricing so low prices for their products.
So I don't think people should complain or compare ordinary to other brands, especially ones with luxury prices. There is simply no comparison, ordinary takes the lead when it comes to price and I have a lot of respect. for them so now, for the negative aspects, there are some things that I don't like about the common products, first of all, the fact that the products are more complementary. Now I'll explain what this means when it comes to skincare products you normally use. They have formulations that are created with a large number of ingredients that target multiple problems so that you can prevent many problems, for example, a moisturizer will usually include ingredients that are hydrating and make sure to prevent water loss from our skin, but it will also include some active ingredients to prevent redness, irritation or aging or also exfoliate the face, which is really good to have because you have a lot of treatments in one product, but with the common ones they are more of a skin care brand. supplement style skin, which means it's your choice. and choose your benefits, so this product here will be for exfoliation, this product here will be for combating redness, this product here will be exclusively for cleansing and it's hard to find products from the line that combine many different themes, so I think the common It's best as a skincare brand where you add different products to your standard skin carotene.
Another thing that many people don't like about the brand is that it is very difficult to understand for people who are new to skin care. I'll admit it when I first read the labels of common products and thought: what do they say? I have no idea what this all means. They are a brand that is marketed to people who are new to skincare, but at the same time, not really. I think that's their intention, so when a lot of people criticize them for this, I say, yeah, you know, it's a valid reason, but at the same time I don't think they're marketing themselves to people who are new to skincare. .
I don't really have a problem with that, but a lot of people do have a problem with that and then the last thing, which is my main reason why I'm a little skeptical about mainstream and why I've been hesitant to buy certain products. I have seen many comments from them and received many messages from people who have used their products for years talking about how the brand has changed the formulas. The biggest example of this is their salicylic acid serum. Now salicylic acid serum used to be my favorite product. of the line, but I started noticing a lot of people commenting saying that they had used this product for years, they had bought like nine bottles, but then when they bought the tenth bottle, the product just burned their skin like intense chemical burns, It took them weeks. for them to recover and this was not an isolated case.
I have seen a lot of messages about this happening and I have also received a lot of messages from people talking about how the common has admitted to changing formulas in the past and how the formulas are not as good as they used to be and this is a bit problematic for me because I think one of the most important things when creating a skin care product is that it is consistent, when I see good results, I will buy. this product for a long time because I want to see the same results so when they change the formula it means you could be getting different results or there could be possible sensitivity issues and when I saw a lot of people talking about burns they were getting from the salicylic acid serum , as well as other complaints.
I was like, you know what I'm not sure how I feel about this and that's why it's a big question mark and concern when it comes to the brand in general. I love the common. I love the products I have used so far. I love their perspective and the way they set themselves apart in the industry and I think they will see a lot of continued success in the future, but I have a bit of reservation when it comes to changing formulas and that's why I'll hesitate to say this is my favorite brand. and I will be transparent in saying that common is one of my best brands of all time and I will continue to buy and use them in the future.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments section below. Do you have any ideas on how to change the formulas? I would love to hear your opinions and if you haven't already.
