Mary taught the people the value of hard work, helped them establish trade with larger cities, and helped establish the Hope Waddell Training Institute. She worked tirelessly, often rushing to resolve disputes when rumors of tribal conflict reached her. She would sit among the angry bosses and reason with them, while she knitted and prayed to stay calm. Thanks to her successful work, Britain appointed her vice-consul and official judge of the native court. Mary Slessor, she continued her activity among the Africans until her death on January 13, 1915, at the age of 66. Her body was transported to Creek Town, where the uneducated former miller received the equivalent of a state funeral.
Today, she is remembered in both Africa and Scotland for her selfless work that brought so much hope to hundreds of lives. Lord, the task is impossible for me, but not for You. Show the way and I will follow you.
