Visit carsandbids.com. Let's start with the basics. Volvo has been adding more and more plug-in hybrids and electric models to its lineup in recent years and the higher trim level versions have been called North Star. I reviewed the

volvo

s60 star last year. Well now Volvo has decided to turn the North Star into its own brand completely separate from Volvo itself. like lexus is separate from toyota so this is not the

volvo

pole star now

polestar

is the brand and what a car to launch a brand with the style is beautiful but there is much more than that like i said it has a starting price is over 150,000 and has 620 horsepower and 740 pound-feet of torque.

More Interesting Facts About,

the polestar 1 is the world s coolest 150 000 volvo...

It's incredible, unlike anything you've seen from Volvo before, and since Polstar is an electric brand, this car is plug-in and has a plug-in hybrid powertrain, meaning there's a gasoline engine and electric motors that all work. together and it will be weird for volvo to say that they will only make 1500 units of the

polestar

for everyone, which means it will be at porsche Carrera gt levels of rarity, which is pretty crazy, although an all-electric Polestar 2 and more will also be coming soon practical with four doors, so I suspect the reason for the new brand name is to compete with Tesla.
the polestar 1 is the world s coolest 150 000 volvo
Here you have a cool new car company that everyone is talking about, while Volvo is a traditional legacy. car company that everyone already knows so you want a new brand to change it and Pulstar is I guess the way to go and this car is leading the way so today I'm going to review the polestar and I'm going to take you to a tour and I'll show you all the cool quirks and features of the latest luxury electric car, then I'll take it out on the road, drive it, and then give it a Doug rating. I'm going to start off with the Polestar's quirks and features with my favorite quirk of this entire car, it's a round rear end before we start let's talk about the styling of the rear end.
the polestar 1 is the world s coolest 150 000 volvo
I think the rear of this car is beautiful, which is why many car manufacturers are opting for it. strange and aggressive cuts, indentations and lines. Volvo has kept everything simple and it really shows in this car. Its design language translates perfectly to a coupe and I think it's really beautiful, simplistic and gorgeous. Back here you will also notice that there is this behind it. logo in the center that would be the North Star logo, I'm not going back again, there is no Volvo anywhere on this car, just the North Star and that's their logo, but anyway, next I want to move on to my favorite feature which is located in the trunk to get there you press the trunk button on the key fob, the trunk opens and then what exactly is this in the cargo area?
You can see there's like a window in the back with all these cables. What's going on here? Well, you know how in a Lamborghini. You can see the engine if you look through the engine cover because it's glass and that's really cool on this car. You can see some of the hybrid electric components in the cargo area because there is a small glass panel that allows you to look through it. You can see the cables labeled for DC charging, AC charging, all this stuff if you want when you open the trunk and I have to say it's certainly very quirky and frankly kind of cool and yes this will be in North Star production . window in your cargo area to see some hybrid stuff, it's a brave

world

, very different to looking at a lamborghini v12 through the engine cover, anyway, some other interesting items in the trunk, while I'm back here, On the left side, you have this little Compartment with a leather tab, pull it out and there are some tools in here, like a fuel tank and a can of tire sealant in case you need it.
On the other hand, perhaps it is more interesting to have this bag that seems to be the perfect size for carrying. a toaster, but if you open this, this is where your charging supplies and your car plug cord are. It's also worth noting that this bag was designed to fit in this exact spot and it actually snaps itself into place so you can throw it in your trunk and keep it there and it won't roll or slide when you're driving your pulse r1 ultimate element interesting in the trunk, a small drawback on this car, over 150 grand and you don't get a Instead you have to close the power trunk manually, a small thing, but something you would think they would do at this price and then Since I'm in the back, another interesting element here is on the trunk lid, where you can see that there is a cutout piece that is for the rear spoiler.
This car has a small rear spoiler that rises when you're above 60 miles per hour to provide more downforce on your North Star or you can attach it yourself if you want to look cool. You can press a small button on the driver's door panel and then the spoiler appears in case you feel like you need more downward force or more likely more attention. You can also press that button in the other direction and then the spoiler goes back down. and the car has a cleaner look, a rear spoiler on a volvo, that lodestar, but a volvo, how crazy.
The other thing I want to talk about when I'm on the outside of this car is how beautiful I think it is. a gorgeous car and not just the rear end which I have already mentioned has a really clean look, the whole car is just beautiful from every angle, other car manufacturers are doing cuts and slits and these bold expressive details to try and capture their attention. volvo polestar is It's simply simple, modern and clean and looks fantastic as a result. I really love the look of this car and all modern Volvo models, and this is a really beautiful luxury coupe, but anyway, next we move on to get into the Polestar model.
The key itself is pretty standard, just a normal Volvo looking key, except it has the North Star logo instead of the Volvo logo. There's nothing interesting there, but you do have interesting door handles that you can see here. They definitely don't look like a typical Volvo or car. door handles right now, the car is locked and you know it because the door handle is flat on the car, if you want to unlock the car and you have the key in your hand, just walk up to the door handle, push it and then it comes out as you can see look again if you want to lock the car with the key in your pocket in your hand you just touch the back of the door handle and then it closes again look at that again and that's how you lock and unlock your polestar now of course you can also do this with the key you press the unlock button the door handle comes out as you can see or you press the lock button and the door handle returns to its home and then it's stuck now, you might be wondering what happens if this motor breaks.
Is there any backup solution to get in? When you open the door handle, you can see that there is a keyhole under the handle assembly, although I'm not exactly sure how you would do that. to that keyhole, if the motor was broken you would have to pry it out, which sounds dangerous and expensive, but there is another way to get into your lodestar if the door handle fails. All these car manufacturers are making different and special door handles, I think because Tesla started this trend with their pop-up door handles and now everyone thinks their door handles have to be interesting, but before we get into it, I want to talk about a more quirky element on this door panel that is much more interesting than the door itself. handle and that would be the mirror, which is very unusual now from the back, it just looks like a normal exterior mirror, but when you get to the front, the mirror part you can see is not mounted like a housing, but you see the mirror. as if it is one thing with the real mirror housing, as if they are a single unit, this is different from a normal car mirror.
You can see that it is usually mounted in a housing, so when you move the mirror around, the housing stays in place, but the mirror itself does not move. at the North Star, so you might be wondering if you design it this way, how exactly do you adjust the position of the mirrors for visibility? And the answer is when you move the mirrors, the entire mirror housing moves along with the mirror. Look at this. I'm moving the mirror inside and the whole thing moves outside. I have never seen this before on any other car with electric mirrors and you would think this would have some effect on the aerodynamics.
It moves the mirror in a certain direction and sends the wind in a completely different direction than intended and it can actually do that but that's what they've done here anyway, the whole mirror housing moves when you adjust the Mirrors. Very strange design detail and next we move inside the Polar Star one where there are quite a few interesting peculiarities that are worth pointing out. I'm going to start right here with the first thing you notice when you open the door, the yellow seat belt, it's actually kind of a yellowish orange and that's the color of the North Star.
It used to be this cool bright blue North Star, but they changed it to this kind of yellow-orange that still looks pretty cool now, interestingly enough, they've only used the North Star's unique signature color in three places on the North Star, one of them is the seat belt, which is a pretty standard place, car manufacturers like to make a cold color, also the brake calipers, another pretty standard cold color point in a car, and also the lid of the tire valve stem, which is a little strange, they use the color of the north star in three points and the valve stem cap is the third, not the stitching or some decorations on the inside, the valve stem cap Valve stem is a little strange, but that's what they have decided to do now.
I want to talk about seating because there is a lot to say about this. seat so I'm going to start again with the seat belts which are unusual because on the belt the words since 1959 are printed which I guess is true for volvo but again this isn't a volvo it's a star polar and it hasn't been since In fact, in 1959, this company was created about 10 months ago, I think it's a little strange to see that Volvo linked to a car that they are so desperately trying to convince people that it is not a vulva, but anyway, the seats themselves are a strange thing. about them, they are white, not that unusual, except the back seats are black, so you have two different seat colors here, the front seats are a different color than the back seats.
Another notable element of the seats is the leather on the seats, absolutely beautiful with this gorgeous finishing pattern. around the seats, I think it looks really cool, very distinctive and feels much more elegant, more luxurious than the standard Volvo model with this kind of luxury leather upholstery around the seats and finally another interesting element that worth noting in this area is the door sill you can see this panel is carbon fiber it has the lodestar logo on one end and then a long straight line and then it says lodestar one and it gives you a short explanation of the vehicle's structurally optimized high modulus cfrp body. carbon fiber design a lot of words, a lot of syllables, but I guess that might give you an explanation of what exactly this is in case you were confused about if you had a high modulus cfrp body, you have it anyway and then you Move inside the North Star, some interesting quirks here, one is the shifter, not only do you have a standard shifter in this car, but it's glass, you can see through it, it's very beautiful, very unique and has the North Star logo, very subtle and very Nice shift knob on this car, much better than the standard plastic one.
Another interesting touch here is the panoramic roof. This car has a giant piece of glass throughout the interior. One thing that I think is interesting with this panoramic roof is that these controls on the roof actually stick out from the panoramic roof, it makesThey look like they're floating a little bit, which is a nice touch and again, it's a cool look with that panoramic roof, but it's a very big piece of glass and it makes you feel. Less claustrophobic than in most modern coupes. That said, the rest of this interior is Volvo. It's very, very Volvo here.
The infotainment system is exactly the same as Volvo. Same with the controls around it. The climate control ventilates the steering wheel exactly the same as in other Volvos. models and basically the overall design, the look, the feel, the materials, there's a lot of Volvo here and it's not necessarily distinguishable from other Volvo models, the interior definitely doesn't say different brand North Star, totally new as the exterior does, of fact, here it simply More or less says Volvo, now there are pros and cons to this. One of the benefits is that Volvo makes the interior fantastic, one of the best in the car industry.
It's all really nice even in a lower-level Volvo, so it translates quite well to this more expensive car. but of course the downside is that it's not unique - you get into an xc60 and you get a lot of the same interior stuff for 50,60,000 in a compact crossover that some suburban family might drive and here you are in your ultra special 150,000. Limited production Polestar and it's basically the same thing again, it's not bad, but it's not unique. One thing I love about this car and all new Volvos. This infotainment system is again the same on other Volvos and works fantastically.
One of my favorite infotainment systems in the entire automotive industry. A big reason is that it's mounted vertically as if holding a smartphone, which is a setup we're all used to by now, since we all use smartphones, you even have a little home button at the bottom center to return to the screen. Of start. Very intuitive and very sensitive to touch. Easy to use. I really like this infotainment system. Truly one of the best in the automotive industry right now, although there is a lot of Volvo stuff here, that also means there are a lot of interesting Volvo quirks because the new Volvo models are quite extravagant.
An unusual element is the infotainment system, you can choose how the stereo sounds. and one of your options is the Getberg Concert Hall, which is the concert hall in Gothenburg, Sweden, where the Volvos come from. It's not just a generic concert hall, they apparently optimize the sound experience to sound like that specific concert hall, which is a wonderful little Volvo quirk. The big Volvo quirk is on the center console, the start/stop switch is not just a button like in basically every other car, but it's this cool switch that you actually turn and then the car starts like you turned the keys in the car. past.
I love how that. It looks and feels the same with the drive mode selector, not just a dial that you turn, but this little textured wheel that you move up and down that you can use to choose the different driving modes that appear on your screen. infotainment. A nice Volvo. Quirks as this is a very Volvo interior, but before you think this interior is all Volvo, don't open the center console storage area and you will find the cleaning cloth for the infotainment screen and it is a cleaning cloth for the infotainment screen. polar star wrapped in polar star.
The package, you open it up and it's covered in North Star logos, so there may be a lot of Volvo in here, but you get a special cleaning cloth for North Star infotainment screens that makes you feel better than if you had a regular one from Volvo . And the next moment is to get into the back seat of the Polar Star, but before I do I want to mention that this door is absolutely huge, incredibly big, long and heavy, very, very heavy and huge, of course they make it that big. to help make getting in and out of the back seat easier so there is more room for the rear passengers, but when you open the door you can see that there is a label on the door frame that specifically says that no one should sit in the back if they are taller than four feet. nine inches tall, that's the height cut to be comfortable in the back seat, so I'm six feet three inches tall now I'll climb in the back, unfortunately getting into the back seats is not as easy as you might think, there is no tab that I can throw. simply slide the seat forward and push the backrest forward in one motion, instead of moving the seat forward you have to use the power seat adjustment buttons, which as you can see takes forever now that there is a small switch on the back of the front. seat that the rear passengers can use to move the seat forward but it also uses the power seat so it takes the same amount of time and that switch doesn't work if the car is running only if it's off so if has pulled To let the passengers out you have to turn off the car so they can use that little switch otherwise you just have to press the buttons on the power seat but now the seat is forward and I can finally get in the back Of course, not getting into the back.
Exactly the easiest thing to do is to unbuckle the seat belt to give yourself room and then you come back here and find out that that four foot nine inch warning was actually probably a little optimistic. Obviously I can't sit here with my head up because of the curvature of the top, it's not really a place where adults want to be and frankly you wouldn't want to come back here anyway unless it's essential because it doesn't happen nothing back here other than the fact that the back seats are black and the front seats are white there is nothing more interesting or peculiar about this back seat you only have two fairly small seats for two fairly small rear passengers I will say that one interesting thing here is the fact that the panoramic roof goes all the way to the rear seats and the result is that it doesn't feel as claustrophobic as you might think here, given how small it is, you have this giant glass roof panel and you can see out and it almost feels like if you were on safari looking up into the trees to see the birds anyway, when you want to get out of the back seat, it's quite a difficult task, but you can do it once the front seat has been moved forward, but then of course , you have to move the front seat back again with the power buttons and that takes forever and finally we move under the hood in the polestar and as I mentioned this is a plug-in hybrid which means it has a gasoline engine and electric motors also in the future.
The North Star models will apparently all be electric but I guess Volvo wanted to make sure this one hit the market first as a sort of flagship car and they wanted to get as much performance out of it as possible, hence the petrol engine too and if performance was their goal, they certainly achieved it, like I said 620 horsepower 704 pound-feet of torque 0-60 in 3.7 seconds all-wheel drive really impressive and surprising numbers and that 0-60 time is even more surprising when you consider the curb weight of This vehicle weighs 5200 pounds, which is no exaggeration in comparison, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan weighs 5,900 pounds and is a giant luxury SUV filled with wood, aluminum, leather and carpets, and they only find out the weight at the end, when They put it on the scale and say oh that's how much it weighs, it's only 700 pounds heavier than this Volvo performance coupe, but this car punches above the weight with the performance numbers to back it up and one of the main reasons I suspect Because of the electric motors and batteries, this car can go about 50 miles of purely electric driving before the gasoline powertrain kicks in.
According to the EPA, Polstar says it can go even further. 50 miles is actually a pretty good number for a plug-in hybrid. especially a high performance plug-in hybrid, just in comparison the porsche cayenne plug-in hybrid can only go 13 miles before the gas engine kicks in, with 50 to 60 miles you can actually do some things without using the gas engine unless necessary, so that is. It's nice to have, it can be used as a real electric car for most people's daily commute and everyday life. By the way, one last little detail worth mentioning, take a look at the vin, you can see it starts with l, this car is built. china volvo has a factory there and they are starting to make volvo polestar models in china and if you are a vin fan like me you can see the polstar code will be ps i guess then l for china p s for polestar and This is what the vins of these cars will look like and those are the quirks and characteristics of the new North Star.
Now it's time to take it out on the road and see how well it handles driving the North Star. Wow, that's pretty impressive and unusually quiet. It's interesting because when you go that fast in a car, especially a two-door car, it's usually a Porsche or an F-Type or an R8 or whatever you hear and feel and whatever. This car is comfortable and insulated like a bentley but much cheaper than that and it's pretty impressive that this car is able to overcome its pretty substantial weight and still feel as fast and instant now I have to say there are a few things that I really like this car the extra style is without a doubt one of them it is a beautiful car and not only is it attractive it is attractive in a daring way it is cool it is interesting it is special people notice it a little on the road nobody knows what it is , it goes unnoticed, but you still know what that thing is.
It's a cool car and it really looks unusual, special, interesting, and not in a bad way, a lot of cars are unusual. and you look at me like, ah, this is unusual and it's like this, I don't know what it is but I like it, the acceleration of course is also fantastic, I really like it and I like this interior, it's the same as other Volvo models. but it has, you know, the highest equipment level of the highest equipment level Volvo models, but it's also that Volvo makes great interiors. I think your biggest drawback with this car, without a doubt, will be the brand's pricing situation, uh, and there will be people who see this. video and say it's so expensive you could get a 911 you'll get an F type you could get whatever and that's true an amg gt that's all true but keep in mind those cars are relatively common compared to This car only produces 1500 of these for the

world

, so it's not like they're trying to sell it in quantities that compete with the 911.
This will be a super low production car that is designed to let people know the brand of the car. North Star and look and say wow, that's a beautiful car, you know what that is and then maybe they'll buy the Pulse Star 2 or the Pull Star 3 every time it comes out, so it's not really meant to be like a luxury car. production competitor to the 911, it's supposed to be like a Halo Car that introduces the brand to people in very small quantities, so yes, it's expensive, especially for a new brand, but I really don't think that's a drawback for the car if you consider the kind of production numbers they are going to sell.
It's just a really unusual rare vehicle, although I think the real problem with this car is that it's a coupe, you know, in a world now dominated by SUVs, all brands, when they come out with a new brand, genesis, do they this?, everyone does this. they are still debuting coops and sedans as their first car Tesla also made this mistake and it's like that's not what people want, people want SUVs and I think that's the real drawback of this car, it's a big coupe, I think if this was like a cool SUV at this price with this performance that they have no problem selling them, not that they're going to have a problem selling them, but I think it would be a more attractive package, but aside from the big coupe, Price aside, this is a great car, it's beautiful, it's fast, it's great to see the Polestar brand take off and by the way, 620 horsepower and 740 pound-feet of torque, this car is a monster.
I would have preferred a halo car that was a little bit more halo, though like a mid-engined audi r8 style vehicle, but when you're a lodestar you don't do maybe super cars that you're trying to show off, you do modern styling well, you do Well modern interiors and that's the focus. of this car and it achieves it and that is why it is the lodestar, this car is certainly not for everyone, it is a 150 000 sports car that is not a porsche, nor a ferrari, nor an audi r8, but it is a new brand and It's electric, but this car is beautiful, it's surprisingly exciting to drive and with only 1500 of these made for the entire planet, you'll get one of these and you'll surely stand out from all the dentists in your suburb who have a 911.
Anyway, Now it's time to give North Star a Doug score starting with the End of Year categories.week and the North Star styling is beautiful, truly striking in its beautiful modern simplicity and it gets 8 out of ten acceleration, it does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and it gets a 7 out of 10. the handling is good but not it's a real sports car level, it gets a 6 out of 10. the fun factor is pretty high, it's very fast, it's exciting to drive and handles reasonably well, it gets a 7 out of 10. the cool factor is higher than Lo expected, I was surprised by how many people noticed this car and asked about it, and it's special: it gets a 7 out of 10 for a total weekend score of 35 out of 50.
The following are the daily categories and features: the star polar is really well equipped with lots of great modern technology and gets an 8 out of 10. Comfort is good, not quite level but very flexible and gets a 7 out of 10. The quality is excellent inside and out, although some materials could be a little better and I'm worried about long term reliability, it gets a 7 out of 10. Practicality is normal for a car like this and it gets a 4 out of 10. Finally, value and that's the biggest problem with this car. 150,000 more for a new brand with a plug-in hybrid is a tough sell, but it is a beautiful car with excellent performance.
The saving grace is a super limited production run, so they'll likely still sell out. Still, it only gets a 5 out of 10 for a daily total score. 31 out of 50. Add it up and the score obtained is 66 out of 100, which puts it here against some relevant cars. The Polestar lags behind some more established rivals like the Bentley Continental GT and Porsche 911. This is a beautiful futuristic car. For people willing to take a chance on a new brand, it's not a huge buyer base, but Polestar doesn't plan to sell many of these cars.
