The Only Driver Lesson You'll Ever Need

May 31, 2021
Let me share with you three of my best

driver

videos of all time. You know driving doesn't have to be so complicated, especially when you know some of the secrets I'm going to share with you here. Let's get started. Hi guys. Welcome to the beautiful Heathrow Country Club in Lake Mary, Florida, my home course, and we're going to talk about three tips that will really help you hit your

driver

much better now that you get to those holes where they have a little bit of water on them. them if you get those par 5s like this, it's a lot more fun to smoke a driver right in the middle of the fairway and not even have to worry about being in the heavy or out of bounds or that kind of stuff. of things, so let's do three things that you absolutely must do to get your best records, let's go and start right, so the first part I want to talk about is what I call snapping, not slapping, so that no one wants to do it . hitting the ball we don't want to lose the speed of the club head and when we hit the ball basically what it means is that I'm using my hands from side to side like this a lot of times I throw a little bit and then the club head overtakes my hands and I ended up hitting the ball.
the only driver lesson you ll ever need
The downside to that is that now my clubface is very inconsistent once it's closed and once it's open and I'm also going to have a hard time gaining speed. From this, let me go ahead and hit one. I'll talk a little bit about this slow motion video that's coming up here in a second, so I'm going to try to slap this ball, really throw it from above, yeah. and I hit it, I hit that ball 40 yards to the left almost towards the road hoping to hit a car there, but it's very hard to be consistent when I do that, there's no way I can hit it fairly when I'm swinging like this So, what's happening is if we look at our wrist and put them in front of us, if I bend my wrist to the right like this, this will be flexion with my left wrist, it's called extension in the right wrist.

More Interesting Facts About,

the only driver lesson you ll ever need...

I don't

need

to know those terms that would be to the right and then to the left again. A lot of times people think we

need

to gain speed by doing this and pushing the club to help speed it up when I do that. start turning the club to hit it and it will overtake my hands

ever

y time the club head comes in front of your hands before contact, you are dead in the water, it will be almost impossible to have control of the clubface when it overtakes them it becomes very , very unstable, it's a slapping move and that's exactly what you're seeing here now a fast move is very difficult, different I still want that stick to be released, so I want to have some lag, I want that stick to be slapped A through the snap, I get that speed at the bottom, but it's when I do it and how I do it that will make a big difference, so when I'm halfway down my descent, you'll notice that it's what we call our lag position. maximum, so at that maximum lag now I've created this great angle with my hands and arms, my body comes forward and opens up and as I continue down, my club still has a pretty good sized angle.

If you look at the end of this stick, if you imagine a laser beam shooting out from there, it's not upturned, but my stick is not pointing at my body, it's pointing down the fairway now from Here, so the stick actually lets go. , I want to break the head of the club. That's when I'm going to start turning the club head up or this grip up to release the club head and get a lot of club head speed. there, that's what we call fast action, you can call it release, you can call it what

ever

you want and the big key to really putting this thing together that we talk about in the top speed golf system is I want this to release about 45 degrees front to me, so if I imagine a line going from my chest at 45 degrees forward every time that stick is fully released, it will now point in that direction, so I'll still let that stick pass or break, but No it's a slap, I'm letting that happen in front of the golf ball and now my club is just dragging behind the golf ball, getting in the way, I'm releasing it in front and that impact is just happening.
the only driver lesson you ll ever need
Let me go ahead and hit one here the right way. We'll show you some in slow motion. I'll give you a couple of tips on how exactly to do this. There we're going to hit that big one right in the middle of the street that I have. that delay and then I managed to release it to the front. Now in the first one we talked about how we didn't want to push with our hands or wrist because now the head of my club is over my hands and it becomes very unstable and in this one I am now lowering my hands towards the ball, you will notice that my right wrist is leaning back and what we call wrist extension or my knuckles towards my elbow.
I'm going to feel like my palm is still facing down so now from here I'm going to go ahead and feel like I'm doing this motion, so if I'm casting a fishing rod, my thumb goes up and down like this. , that's what's called ulnar deviation or just a cast or a flip type motion that I'm doing that way down here on the ball in that kind of direction so my hand isn't going in this direction and cupping, it's coming down like If I were doing this with a fishing rod and now how I do it that in front of the golf ball that is going to release the club, notice how here both my wrists are nice and straight, there is no curvature in them if I were turning, it would be I would look like this when I'm going through impact and my wrist would be cupped here and I would be bent back, bent forward like this with this other hand, which is going to create a lot of inconsistency if you do that, so let's pause right before impact.
We have a good angle where this doll is flat. At this point, my thumb retreats towards my body. I've got all this lag and then we're going to pause the straight line release on the top speed golf system and we're going to work on getting this thumb down, so I went up and down, that's the action of the whip that's happening there, that's that snap and when I do this correctly I feel like I'm going to take the bottom two inches of this grip with my bottom two fingers, that's where I'm at. I'm going to feel the pressure there and I'm just going to break the shaft, get that grip off the club, that's going to help me with a ton of speed, so let's go ahead and pause and do that about 15 to 20 times, pausing here and then, releasing that. pausing here, wrists nice and flat, wrist down after we've done that about 20 times, let's have the same feel and a fuller swing, just a practice swing there, so we're not going to hit any balls yet, just come on. to get used to that feeling and then we can go ahead and take it to the practice range and start hitting some shots and then go out on the course, so that's piece number one, don't hit piece number two where the Same old saying is. which we've heard for a long time, but with the new twist we're going to set it high and let it fly now.
The reason you want to put this ball on the high tee is a couple of things, so first of all, if I have a great handle on what's going on are two things number one I'm going to hit this ball a little bit higher on the tee. clubface now that I start hitting it a little higher on the clubface there is actually more loft on the top of your driver your driver is not flat like a sheet of metal, it is actually rounded, if you take this and you take it to a full circle, it actually makes about a three foot circle, that's how the face curves, so it has a slight curve to it, which means at the bottom of the driver you're going to have a lot less loft, this it's an eight and a half degree driver on the bottom, there's probably five or six degrees, four degrees, something like that on the top, there's probably 12 or 13 degrees.
So if I hit him on the top of the face, he'll launch higher, that's great for distance, that's what we really want. The second piece is when I make contact with the tire, it actually has a gear effect and the ball sticks to the face and really puts. a little bit of topspin, not really topspin, just less backspin and it makes the ball move in the air which is a real key to long high drives, the higher I can hit it, hitting it on the upper part of the face and less effect I can have too. hitting on the top of the face means the longer drives I'm going to have that's the first piece the second piece of this is I actually want to swing the ball up again if I'm going to come down on it.
Like sliding the ball and now I'm getting all this backspin the ball wants to shoot up like float in the air and then fall out of the sky you don't get any kind of good distance but if I can set this ball up where I'm actually swinging up now again will promote that launch higher and will promote that spin lower so the harder I can hit this golf ball the better I will be at creating as much distance as I can if I have the ball low on the ground let's imagine this ball It's barely sitting on the ground, like this, it's sitting on the grass, if I swing up, if I try to hit this now.
I'm going to miss over the ball, there's no way to do that and also there's no way to hit it anywhere other than the bottom of the face, so I want this ball to be well placed and high so I can hit it at an upward angle. angle up and still make contact with the top of the face now with your iron shots it's going to be on the ground we're going to have to hit it if we had the luxury of iron shots we would do the same thing but we don't have than to get it off the ground, that's why you hit down and cut with the irons, that's the easiest way to get it off the ground and that's why this is different with the driver, so a couple There are a few things we want to point out. here and I'll show you a slow motion video with this.
I'm also going to play with this a little bit in my stance. I have the ball ready for me. I like to have at least half an hour. ball above the club or a little more. I'm going to go ahead and place this about three-quarters of the golf ball sticking out above the crown. I'm going to have that a little bit up in my stance if I really want to get one, grab one, get a different extra distance. I'm going to play it up here towards my front foot again, that's going to help me promote hitting it on the way up and then number three, I'm going to visualize it in my mind.
I'm going to go ahead and pull it from the top of the face. I don't want to get close to the bottom of the face. It's going to kill my distance, so I put the ball in my position that I have. It rose nice and high and now I'm going to feel like I'm swinging the ball up and clearing the face so that I still have that high knuckle, almost a little bit of topspin on the ball, is the way I want to think about this, so if I do those things, man, that will really help me increase my distance.
It felt great, a great high ball with the knuckles in the wind, a really good shot. Now I saved the best for last. I know many of you. There are those balls out there that slice if you run into any kind of wind or have distance issues, that slice is definitely going to eat up your distance really, really bad, so if I want to hit it further, I have to. Do a little bit of a draw or at least a straight shot if I want to get the maximum distance that will get the least amount of spin and will help the ball launch pretty quickly so when I'm setting up this golf ball a lot of times what people visualize is that they are coming out and the face is very square and they imagine that they are going to pull this club through the square and the ball will go down. in the middle of the fairway and when they have that visualization in mind because they are having difficulty with a cut, the ball just goes to the right and tends to cut if you feel like you are going to hit it squarely and 90 of By the time it fades or cut, this will really help you, so I want to imagine the face of the club, imagine that piece of metal is going to wrap around the outside of the ball, so if I'm looking at this golf ball from my perspective and I put a line on the middle of the ball that would be a dead square if I hit it right on that line that would be a square shot now when we do that like we just talked about we tend to cut that means my club was actually a little bit on the inside of that line.
What I want to feel is that you are having the club curl towards the outside of the golf ball and hit the outside of that line. Now what that does is it closes the face a little bit more and when you first do this you're going to start hitting some shots to the left, that's fine, that means you're hitting too much but that ball is going to start to the left and hitch. even a little further to the left, especially for you who are reaching above. Now I'm getting the outside of that ball out and it's starting to the left, going even further to the left, that'sokay, let's start on the range doing this and I.
I want you to make those shots that go left and then gradually we'll start to get a little bit more from the inside. I'll feel like I'm at home plate, at second base, and on The baseball field is directly in front of me. I'm swinging more towards first base or the visitors' dugout and now I'm going to release that club to take it away from the ball, so what's going to happen is the ball is going to start a little bit straighter and then it's going to draw After you've gotten a few of these where the ball actually starts spinning a decent amount, let's tone it down a bit.
I'm going to go ahead and hit one and even though I'm really exaggerating, I'm going in and out and I'm letting that face turn now as I do this, the feeling that I'm getting my hands on if you go ahead and set up this club here is that I'm taking this club and I'm turning it like I'm turning a clock, like you can imagine that the butt of the club is the face of a clock. I'm going to turn that thing that makes the club roll. You'll notice when I do this, my left wrist arches. what everyone wants at impact that really helps us what the pros are doing and my right wrist turns my knuckles back like this that's what's going to free up that face as I'm doing it so we can see that would really make that face turn Anyway, I'm going to exaggerate here, I hope we can see this on camera, but I'm really going to make this one swing from right to left, here we go, so we saw one starting in the middle of the street hooked to the left almost by the trees, I'm on the right track, that's what I want to happen at first if I'm struggling with that cut, now the second piece of this, after I've hit about 15 or 20 balls doing that, I've got the feeling like I'm just going to tone it down a little bit, don't let the club get too loose to the outside of the ball and don't swing too far to the right and now you're going to have that little baby drawing that everyone wants to have for get maximum distance, okay guys, so take those three tips, number one, don't hit number two, put it high, make the ball launch high with low spin and number three, get that club. head towards the outside of the ball to get that nice draw.
Now there are some common setup issues that I see over and over again and I think it is due to the movement of the axe. It feels really powerful when we have a golf club. Let's imagine this is a golf club for a second, if I feel like I'm going to hit this golf ball and I put this thing over my head and I slice it against the golf ball, it feels like it has tons and tons of power, tons and tons of speed. I feel like I could have cut that golf ball in half and I think every golfer, from when they start playing, wants to feel that really powerful swing in golf, unfortunately that doesn't work instead of finishing it. the head chop type move and I'll fix it, don't worry about the t, you need to come from the inside, put the club in the slot and then feel like you can deliver that club with a good path to have tons of power. and tons of speed, if we continue to prepare in a way that gets us into that cutting position, we're going to lose speed, we're going to lose distance, so in this video I'm going to talk about three of the most common ones. setup myths create problems that get you into that cutting position instead of being in a powerful position where we can get into the slot, once you're set up the right way you're going to hit the ball a lot further okay , so let's jump.
Right here let's talk about the first problem that can really wreak havoc on your speed and if I'm imagining that powerful feeling of coming down and cutting this golf ball, we all know we don't want to do that, but it feels so good to do it if I visualize that one thing that I'm going to do with my setup is get in a position where I would have a lot of power coming down at this angle and if you notice my shoulders, then if I had to put a golf club on my shoulders here, this would be level with the ground, this would be a little bit tilted away from the target, my head would be further behind the ball, my spine would be at an angle away from the golf ball, that's really good, but if I'm positioned in a way that I feel like I'm going to land on this golf ball, golf too hard a lot of times, what will happen is my shoulders will level out, I'll reach too far to the left.
If you look at my shoulders and I'm in this position now, I feel like I can hit this golf ball with a lot of speed and with all that energy, but it doesn't really work in golf. that's the first key, what I want you to do, go ahead right now, even if you're not on the driving range, grab a stick, grab a broom, whatever you need to do, follow me on this and this will really give you will help Then put a stick on your shoulders, so keep it right on the tips of your shoulders. Here go ahead and lean forward in your stance and then I'll feel my belt buckle move forward a little bit towards the target, my upper body leans. a little bit further back here my head is behind the golf ball my chest is behind the golf ball and you're going to notice how I create a little angle with my club there so just a slight angle is enough I don't have it.
You have to go like this and go a lot forward, but what I want you to do is be very level and I want you to lean out, let's call it about 10 degrees or so, with my shoulder angle it doesn't have to be more than that. a little more a little less is no big deal so go ahead and do it about 15 or 20 times, get comfortable getting behind that golf ball like this, then I'll go ahead and do the same thing with my golf club repeating that same action , so here I'm setting up, I'm leaning in a little bit and now all of a sudden I've leaned everything in a lot more.
I've created this big area right here where I can move my hands and With my arms from the inside I can get that club in the slot and that's going to make it a lot easier to create the actual speed that we need and not that excessive speed, let's go ahead and try that . I'm going to turn. forward, a little tilt towards my shoulders, my head is behind the golf ball, let's take it for a spin, okay, nice draw, just down the left side of the fairway, all right, now the second part of this It's going to be a little trick with the elbow if you put your elbow in the right position, it makes it a lot easier to come down from the slot, come down from the inside, like we're talking about, to get rid of that axe-type move that kills our distance, kills our power. , so what we do. what I'm going to do here and the way I want you to do it go ahead and get ready for the golf ball if you're in your living room just for an imaginary golf ball either way that's fine and I'm going to come in in my Shoulder Tilt first, now I'm going to get about 10 or 15 degrees or so of shoulder tilt like I mentioned and then from there is when I'm going to add my hand, so if I add my right hand from this position, it will be much lower or from the inside when I add the right hand, that helps me get my shoulders a little more in line with the target, it helps promote that lean, it helps me promote more coming from the inside when I do it.
So if you look at the palm of my right hand, you're going to feel it a lot more under the club compared to if I'm too level with my shoulders and I add my right hand there, now all of a sudden my palm is on top. the club, that's what's called a weak grip and it's very easy for that to turn into a slice or sort of a downward slice on the upper swing, so get into the tilt, 15 or 20 reps, add the hand right there and then we're going to Close our grip so a little bit is enough.
You don't need to have your hand too low here, like I see some people really trying to overdo it, just move a little bit to the right if you're looking for a There are a few key control points, I'm looking for the index finger and the thumb, yeah I squeeze them together, they will point roughly towards my right shoulder, so that's when you know you're getting the right amount, it should look like this. The second part of this right hand trick is what I talked about with the elbow. A big mistake when your shoulders are too level.
I'm going to put this hand up with my palm facing down and now my elbow is pointing towards the target that you set. I'm too level with my shoulders too far to the left and I don't really have anything I can do from this position instead of cutting over the top and really making a weak swing here, so as I add my right hand, I want to feel like my elbow, yeah I look at the pointy part of my elbow with my bottom elbow, I'll feel like it's a little bit towards my hip when I do that.
Now you can also see it from this position if I'm looking from below how it's a little bit below my right forearm so I'm exaggerating so you can see it on camera but this is below or lower this would be overkill I don't want this or I. I'm really going to cut it, so get ready, lean over, add your right palm up, and then feel like your elbow is toward your hip. Now I'm in a powerful position where I can really get it in from the slot and get that great really athletic setup now the third piece of this really powerful powerful setup is going to be my stance and I see players get this wrong all the time and in fact has become a fairly common instruction in recent years is what we want our stance is quite narrow or

only

at shoulder height, now we could argue that, but there is great proof for this.
This is what I want you to do, go ahead and get ready for the golf ball and I want you to start with a really very narrow stance. you just have your feet almost together touching what I'm going to do is go ahead and take a swing now and I'm going to try to kill this golf ball. I'm going to try to hit it as hard as I can and see how far I can hit my driver, I'm even going to do my tilts and everything I was trying to do with my shoulders and my arm and let's see what happens, I smoked that one that's so good how can I hit one swinging?
From there, down the right center of the fairway, according to my flying range, I swung at 107 miles per hour and, as good as I could, I hit 280. So it's not so bad if everything else in your body works fine. your hands are the shoulders, all that is delivering the club correctly. You can do a lot of things wrong with your lower body and still get good distance, like I was talking about there where I showed it. Now what I want you to do is gradually widen that distance. position up let me grab a couple of golf balls here and gradually I'm going to get wider and wider until I find my most athletic stance width so you don't have to listen to me I don't have to I'm not in charge of exactly what you have to do, Find out for yourself, start very narrow and then widen your stance more and more until you feel like you are the most athletic for you, let's say you have a really wide and powerful stance like this.
It's okay, as long as you move your feet a little bit it'll be completely fine, you can set it up that way and still be really good. What I have found with most players is that they like to set up and I have tried it with quite a few players they are a little bit wider than shoulder width so if I stand straight up and down you can see how wide they are my feet here, if I drew a vertical line from the ankle, it would be outside my shoulders, both on my right foot and my left foot this is the most athletic I can get from my personal stance this is approximately the width I see on the most players so a couple of inches wider than your shoulders is perfect look at rory mcilroy the longest pound for pound hitter On the PGA Tour you will see a nice wide stance like this.
This is athletic. My legs are bent. I feel like I could really take off from the ground when I do this. Now it's the one thing you don't want to do. here it is, I don't want to keep my feet still, I don't want to keep my feet like sucked into the ground and swing all my arms. I have to move forward and let my feet move over my back, swing my left heel. It's going to go up slightly in my tracking. I'm really going to let my right foot rotate all the way. That's a very, very good key, but as long as I do that, I can open up as much as I want and still.
I have movement and freedom in my golf swing, so I'm going to go ahead and establish what I feel is my most powerful stance and put the three things that I talked about together number one, I have a little bit of a shoulder tilt. number two my right hand comes into the club a little bit more from the bottom with my right elbow up number three I've got that nice wide athletic stance a little bit of knee bend I feel like I'm playing short stop here and now I'm in a position where I really I can hit this golf ball pretty hard, let's take it for a spin, okay, hit it really good in the center.
Hey guys, it's great to have you here today. I'm going to give you some fantastic tips that will help you start hitting your puck more accurately, more solidly and alittle further. I'm going to walk you through the basics and let you know some things that took me a long time to figure out and are really going to help you in your game, so first let's go over alignment with the driver. Now we can first imagine our target line. What I like to do when you practice with your driver on the driving range is just put some type of club or you.
You could leave another stick, point it at the target and the distance you want to hit. Now most players when they start playing golf tend to have difficulty with a cut, which means their right shoulder, their right arm and their body are kind of coming over the top, I'm exaggerating here so you can see, usually this It's not that extreme, but it comes over the outside and then that club cleans the ball like this with the face open and that makes the ball start straight or maybe even a little bit to the right and then it really deflects well to the right. , now the tendency there because the ball keeps cutting to the right is to line up more and more to the left, that simply exaggerates the problem, now we are going to start reaching higher to try to take the ball further to the left, it is going to cut even more, so the further to the left you align, the more it will be cut.
What you will notice with the pros is that they will usually be somewhere almost parallel to your target line. What I recommend is to close your posture a little. Have this front. standing a little further to the right has two purposes, number one, it will help you come more from the inside and get more of that draw, now you will learn to release the face and number two, as you swing, you imagine this. The driver is in a hula-hoop or swinging on a hula-hoop here as that puck starts to move up, it actually moves a little bit more to the left because you're hitting the driver on the upward motion, so as you line up a little bit more to the right now as you start to swing up your club is moving pretty square to the ball so put this club in alignment and one of the keys to top speed golf is you have to train things a little different.
I like to go. At the extremes, well, practice is variability training. I want you to line up one where your feet are facing left. Take a swing and this is on the driving range. Look where the ball is going and then line yourself up in the right direction. Still try hitting it towards your target again and then see what that affects the flight of the ball and the curvature of the ball. Let me go ahead and give you an example of the ones I'm going to line up in this first one. on the left, naturally, you'll see that this ball wants to start cutting a little bit more.
Look, that ball started cutting to the right. A terrible shot really started going there and that's going to be right on the mark now. I'm going to do the opposite here. I want you to go back and forth doing this for 10 units. Don't worry about making good shots. Just watch what happens while we do this. Now I'm going to align myself to the right because my targets are left naturally. I start turning my hands more and I get a little bit more of a draw, so now the ball curved to the left and again I'm exaggerating here, it's on the left edge of the fairway, but by changing my alignment it's instinctively much more.
It's easier to get a draw because you know subconsciously that you know, oh, I have to let go of the clubface, so practice that on the driving range. Alternate 10 shots in a direction to the left, in a direction to the right, in a direction to the left, in a direction to the right. then from there you can fine tune and find the perfect alignment for your individual swing that helps you make the ball go straight so now let's move on to ball position this is really critical if I want to go far if I want hit. the ball is too far away, I need to catch it on the upswing, not with a lot of loft on a driver and essentially what we're trying to do here is try to get this club to move on the upswing and delofting.
So it's almost like a knuckleball, the ball starts spinning like this and it moves through the wind, that's the visualization you have in reality, it will always have a backspin, but that's what we want to imagine in our mind so do it to get the most distance here I want to put the ball pretty high the higher you put the more potential you have to hit it on the upswing the more potential you have for distance that's why you'll notice the guys with long drives place the ball in the exit direction in the air very, very high so they can really hit it.
I want you to place the ball on the tee at least half a ball above the driver's head. I'm going to exaggerate a little more here just to do something like that. I'll show you what I mean, play that ball at least where, if you look at it from the front, it's going to be somewhere around the left heel to here to the middle of the left foot. I don't want to hear this. ball too far back in my position or I will tend to hit it more. I can make some good shots. This is a more conservative approach if you just want to get one on the street this might be nice but if you really want to.
Get a good distance. I'm going to play that ball in my stance while the club swings. You can imagine the bottom of the ark is here and it's actually running back up while I'm hitting the golf ball, so let's try it. get it into your stance, remember to line up a little bit to the right here and then I'm going to work on hitting kind of a high spin knuckle ball, that's what I'm going to visualize so that the ball really penetrates through the wind and gets my distance. maximum, let's take it for a spin, let's smash it in half, let's take a look, that's the best I can hit one there, let's take a look at the flight range numbers now and see what my angle of attack was so on the flight range telling me that shot was positive 2.8 on the rise, which means my club is moving up 2.8 115 miles club head speed 301 yards 300.9 yards carry 333 334.3 on the drive I can't do much better than that, so now we have to take some distance, no matter how straight it is, how good our alignment is, if we're getting an upswing, if we can't swing that club fast enough, we're not going to swing it. hit.
Far away, the PGA Tour average is about 113 miles per hour. The lpga tour average is about 96 miles per hour and I think the senior tour champion bids for people 50 and older hover around 106 or 104 on average, I can't remember the exact number there. That gives you a good idea of where you should be if you're an elite player, but the big key here is that no matter where you are, we can make some technical changes that will help speed up the process. The first will be how much I turn my body, so if you see really good players who hit it pretty far, they will let their hips, their shoulders and their arms go too far back, so if I stop my swing here and I'm back this far, my shoulders don't.
They've turned a lot, my hands haven't moved back much and I

only

have from here to where my hands come into contact, so I only have from here to there to accelerate this club. In this short period of time I can move my hands if I can let my hips, my shoulders and my arms go further back. Now I'm creating more space to accelerate the club. The more space you have, the faster you are going to swing. you put in the same amount of effort, so unless you're really big, really strong, you're the kind of guy who can throw a fastball 90 miles an hour, you know, on a basketball court, I would recommend going a lot higher. long ago even.
If you can do all those things, if you step back longer, you'll get even more distance from that, so let's do an exercise here, now we're going to move forward, take your stance, extend your arms out to the sides and I. I want you to practice rotating your body until your arms are pointing toward what would be behind the golf ball, so I'm sitting here, my arms are rotating behind the golf ball as I move forward. Now I'm letting this right foot come. above, I'm mixing my hips, pivot through my arms, I'm going to pass the golf ball here and then I'm going to come to my nice full finish, so it's going to look like this as we do this exercise and that's just going to loosen up your body. it allows you to make that nice full swing and really hit it hard, so as you do those 20 or 30 reps you'll feel that same free flow feeling, then incorporate it with your real driver and now do some practice swings for another 20 or so . practice your swings to get that nice full turn both back and forth and then you'll be ready to hit some shots on this one.
I'm really going to focus on that big swing and see what kind of swing speed we can achieve. We're not going at all. Just as solid as the last one, but I'll still take it. I felt like I swung pretty hard. Let's see what kind of miles per hour we had. I really ran over the hill and got a total distance of 321, so the final piece here we have to release this golf club, the natural tendency that I always did when I started playing, which I see in basically every golfer that I have seen, thousands of golfers. in

lesson

s and each of them has the natural tendency when they start playing, that is, when you come from above, you want to hit this ball very hard with a lot of speed, so we start pushing the club to throw the club. early and what ends up happening is we lose this angle called lag in our wrist, we burn all that speed here and then when we get to the ball the club actually slows down, what we want to happen is we really want to increase this. lag when we start to come down, we get a nice sharp angle here between our club and our arms and then from there we have to release this club in front, so I want you to do a really easy drill here to get familiar with that release and start to get that speed where you need it, which is right on the golf ball, so I want you to go ahead and take a half swing back.
Imagine this is our losing streak and I want you to get this acute angle between your hands and arms. now a key is that I don't want this stick to point up and down, I want it to be a little bit flatter from here. Some people call this getting into the slot really key to being able to hit solid shots over and over again so I can in the slot here I have this nice lag angle and then from there I want you to open your hips go ahead and let let your feet turn, your knees turn, I'm going to open my hips and I'm going to release that club to where now I've gotten rid of all these angles, that's what we call the straight line release in our high speed golf system and I've let the club come forward for a couple to practice swinging halfway back and then go to the hip and shoulder release. arms, everything is released in front, do it about 10 or 15 times just to get the general feeling of that movement, you don't have to try to do it quickly, you don't have to do anything fancy, you just get that feeling and then we're on.
I'm going to incorporate that same feeling as we do a full practice swing, so your full back swing I'm going to feel that lag. I'm going to feel the stick come loose in front. If I do that now, I'm going to get that whip action happening right on the golf ball, so here's a great way to feel this and a great way to train differently so you actually get the feel faster. It's exaggerating both ends as you start to swing the club and then you try to swing so it would be something like this and you'll see I don't have much speed and then the next one gets a big lag angle, release the club in front and now you can start to hear that whip through contact so 15 to 20 practice swings alternating a release, a good lag and then releasing in front if you always visualize releasing in front of the golf ball that makes things a lot easier when you go out to play, so once you feel comfortable with that, let's go. go ahead and hit a couple more or press go ahead and hit a few in the range.
I'm going to go ahead and try to break one. I may not be the most direct on this, but I'm going to try to see if I can go further, the furthest I've had so far, let's turn it a little to the right, it's still a good ride, I don't think I can beat the last one, I killed the previous one. or two swings, so let's see what the flight range says. Club head speed was 117.4 290, carry 320, total distance. Hit it right, follow those keys, get the ball position right, get your alignment so you can work on those fades and draws and straighten it out. and then getting that lag and releasing it to the front will make driving a lot easier.
Alright guys, I hope you really enjoyed this video. In the end, I really talked about how they want to get a big delay. through contact and release to the front, well that's what we call top speed lag and straight line launch. I will play an additional videowhich talks about one of the biggest lag mistakes I see players make, eliminate their lag and once you change this. You get the idea that you're going to start adding some speed to your swing so the extra video plays here in just a second. All you need to do is click on the i card on the screen or the link below in the description and I will have instant access to that full video plus five additional videos for my high speed golf system.
I can't wait to start helping you with your game. Let's get started Hello guys and welcome back. I'm Clay Ballard and in today's video. We are going to talk about one of the worst exercises to create delay. It is a very common exercise that I see and in this exercise what we are going to do is place the wrist very early to create an angle. of lag and then we're going to try to maintain this throughout the swing. It's one of the worst things you can do to cause delay. I'm going to talk about the science behind why this is the case and I'm also going to give you a great exercise to help you improve your lateness.
Everything in this video, we're going to do it this way instead of holding that position. The exact same thing happens when we're building lag in the golf swing, so what we want. What I have to do is throughout the swing, I want to have a very low and wide take away, so I'm not going to set my wrist early at all. If you look at a lot of the best players, you look at Adam Scott, a very wide take away, no. a lot of wrist adjustment in general, look at roy mcelroy, look at tiger woods, all of these players are using wide distance and they're not getting a lot of wrist adjustment so that later in the swing when we start down we can increase this wrist adjustment wrist and Actually, we're just going to maximize this lag angle for a fraction of a second in the downswing, okay, so let's do a three-step drill now as we start this.
I wanted to remind you that the fulcrum on this golf club to get a lot of lag is right at the end of the golf club. This is where I want my hinge point to be you.
