The fish will thank you. Do you want to

if a disk is male or female? Just turn it over and watch. I'm kidding, of course, you can ask 10 different record holders and you'll probably get 10 different answers. It really is not a foolproof way to know if the discus is male or female just by looking at it, they look so similar that really the only way to distinguish them is by observing them in the most intimate moment is the one when they lay the eggs without your female. If you are going to keep discus, you will want to keep them in an aquarium of at least 75 gallons, but like any other fish in this

hobby

, it is always larger. best, that's what she said, yes you may see videos on youtube of two large discus in a 20 gallon tank, this is specifically for breeding.

Keepers do this so that they can keep their fish one hundred percent focused on what needs to be done, without wasting time. is their thing, but if you're going to keep these fish as pets, do the right thing, give them a minimum 75 gallon tank, but also have a plan to upgrade them to something larger in the future if you want to breed discus. A couple of strategies, you could buy several discs of the same variety, throw them in a tank, let them grow and then they will mate on their own, they choose their spawning partners, not you.

The second strategy would be to purchase a proven breeding pair from a breeder, this can be quite expensive but is usually a mature adult hair that has already been successfully bred. If you want a safe way to have babies, it's worth the money. Once you have your pair, you'll want to do your job and provide them to them. with the best possible conditions with lots of clean water, lots of good food and a stress free environment, usually alone in a tank, if the fish are happy you

should

have babies when you go to the store to buy your discus or if you are I will order them in line, the most common sizes you'll find available will be two and a half inches to four inches, but don't let these smaller sizes fool you, these guys run pretty big, that's what she said, that's what she said .
What she said, an adult disc can be up to eight inches in diameter, which is about the size of an IHOP pancake. Keep this in mind when deciding what size tank to put in. Discus are known for being extremely docile and are calm, just slowly making their way around the tank and generally not bothering any other fish, but of course there are always exceptions. I mean, they're cichlids, there's really no need to worry about the discus harming other fish and actually attacking what. you need to worry about the other fish damaging your discus, unless there is breeding going on in the tank then you need to be careful because your discus can get a little nasty, by far the most common tank mates you will find on Hobby witt.
The discs will be two of my favorites, the cardinal or neon tetras. I love these adorable little guys and one of the best things about them is that you don't have to worry about them bothering your discus, but the neon and cardinal tetras aren't. Your best bet is to look for fish that are categorized under the label of community fish and, more importantly, you want them to have a laid-back temperament similar to that of the discus. You don't want these fish swimming at a million miles per hour all day. For a long time stressing your album, there is John in the segment where they are from.
Discus originated in the Amazon, but the reality is that most, if not all, of the discus that you will find in pet stores and websites or racing fish tanks, this means they were Brighton farms. or hatcheries, so they are used to that water, not Amazon water, in my experience consistency is the key to success with discus, talk to the supplier you are purchasing discus from, find out what their parameters are of water and just get as close as possible to where they already have the disc and then you won't have any problems. Discus are carnivorous, meaning they like to eat meat, so in the wild these fish swim and search for smaller fish or insects. but you're obviously not going to smartly run over a pet and pick up some fish to feed it or go out into the backyard and pick up bugs for it.
Nobody has time for that, plus it would be a real shame for your $200 record. contract some disease caused by some garbage feeding fish, why would you do that when there are so many foods available made specifically for discus fish? We like to use things like cobalt for the flakes, we use flooville and northern fin for the pellets and I really like Akari frozen bloodworms but there are tons of options, look around it's not hard to find these kids are one one of those fish that everyone labels as difficult to keep and you must be an expert to be able to keep this flip.
I'm not going to tell you that if you've just set up your first aquarium you should go out and get a bunch of discs. They are definitely not beginner fish, but they are not that difficult to keep. People think do your job. clean water, plenty of circle tank mates that don't stress them, good quality food and you won't have any problems, you shouldn't say discus are hard to keep, they should say they are hard to keep if you are a lazy fish keeper, yes You are willing to do the work necessary to keep your fish happy and healthy, you won't have any problems and you will be rewarded every day, these truly are the most beautiful fish in the Hobby, so there you have it. 10 things you should know about the discussion, we will upload a new episode of 10 things every Sunday, so if you found this useful, if you found this entertaining, please subscribe to see more, thank you very much for watching and we will see you next week. with ten more things
