More Interesting Facts About,

the legendary paul harrell...

Are you trying not to laugh? No I'm serious. I can't tell you how many people U mik you can talk to about this like people come up to me and M. And say, "Hey, we love Grandthum, but we started with Paul Harell, we still see Paul Harell every weeks, like you had a profound impact on what that was like for you. I guess all I can say is that I deeply disagree with your assessment that I.” I've had a profound impact, you know, some people come up to me and say thank you for saving me some money because I didn't buy what you had put out there, I didn't predict anything good, but it's all about whether I can help someone. few people achieve goals a little better or whatever makes my day.
the legendary paul harrell
What led you to do YouTube in the first place? Paul asked him: how did you find yourself in this kingdom? Oh, long story made very short. Well, I had this idea that we could do it. seminars like we just did back in 2010, 2011, when everyone was getting better in 2012 and I could do some things where I could dispel the myths that people had about global change and all that and give them some good plans for preparation and that kind of thing, total failure, complete failure, but part of it was that I made some YouTube videos to advertise that kind of thing that everyone seemed to like, so I went, it was just a coincidence that you just fell into I feel that the same thing happened to me, funny enough, where I accidentally made videos and it just took off, but where did all this knowledge about firearms and ballistics and shooting techniques come from, how did that come about? about I've been around guns since I was a little kid, my dad's always had guns, he's a winger, a good teacher and then I went into the Marine Corps and then they sent me to a lot of training like Gun Site and places like that.
the legendary paul harrell
I was a marksmanship instructor at Marine Corps Security Forces school and I had the opportunity to see a lot, learn a lot, read some magazine articles and try to do research. I think that's pretty obvious, so yeah, it is what it is. So, you had all this knowledge when starting your YouTube channel and you started it now. I don't know if you ran into the same problem. I know that when entering the YouTube sphere, there is always that pressure to continue producing content. So I think one thing that people have always really enjoyed about your content is that you do what you love, you do what you know and you really expand on it, what are some of the things that you really like and love? doing when it comes to videos for you that I love Yeah, what are some topics that you've loved doing videos on?
That's a good question and I don't really have a good answer to it. The videos I really like are the ones that answer a question that a lot of people asked so you can get good information but at the same time we're funny like when we did that thing about shooting while you're in bed, okay someone asked me, hey what What if I shot through certain blankets and immediately that came to mind. Oh, I'll take the bed to the ranch. It's like the funniest video ever. There have probably been more memes from that video than I've seen from any video ever made. you present meat targets if everyone doesn't know, uh Paul, when you do your ballistic testing with rounds, you use meat targets because obviously meat is tissue, it's real muscle fiber, it's a really good means of showing what round you're going to do and how. 'You came up with this.
I'd love to say something flowery to you, but I really just pulled it out of nowhere. It was about a lot of people having this debate about whether or not a shotgun loaded with buckshot would actually work. hurt you at close range, so I said what I could think of that roughly represented a torso and I went to the butcher and bought some beef hearts and some of those plastic-wrapped packages of hot dogs. which I used to simulate intestines and I just put it all together, I shot it with a shotgun, I said yeah, there you have it, guys, people seem to like that and people seem to find it entertaining and a lot of people find meat and stuff like that. so it's real where ballistic gel is not any ballistic gel it's not a good approximation of tissue it's just a medium that we use to represent it's consistent exactly and I would tell you that ballistic gel is a good thing mhm oh yeah and the What I really believe is that if one guy is here shooting jugs of soda and another guy is shooting bricks and another guy is shooting ballistic gel and another guy is shooting a meat target, then the audience will be able to see all of these things and have more. information from which they can make their own decisions now that you have made many videos at this point your catalog of videos is huge of all the ones you have made you have done many ballistic tests Many myths were dispelled.
Was there anyone in particular that you were holy? That's not what I expected. Yeah, okay, I don't remember which one came to mind, but I've had a few where, wow, the result we got. It wasn't what I thought we would get something that all jumps out at you over the years you gave me a few minutes I would think of something you would take you can take your time sure um something else to think about is going to be Now Paul I know that you also own a lot of firearms, obviously, you're kind of like firearms.
I guess we could say we could say you like guns. Do you have a couple of questions? I have there, it's like I've always accepted you. It's very strict that the Second Amendment is about, you know, personal arm protection, being able to protect yourself and your family, it has to feel good to some degree to have had that good impact on the community again, I don't know. You seem to think my impact has been a lot bigger than I think, man, my audience is going to be involved, they're just going to make you feel really good because every once in a while people say they went out and bought whatever gun and stuff.
They had never heard of me until they looked up a YouTube video trying to learn how to use their gun, they saw mine and then they were able to go from a certain level to getting much better at their skill and that's what really gets me. but as to why the Second Amendment Community as a whole is fine, I don't want to ramble, but please, for people in our position, we always represent the Second Amendment and gun owners in general, so I I make it a big part of our job if we're going to do this to represent all gun owners in the best way possible, that's why you see me trying to use PG language and trying to say, even though we do some things obviously just for fun trying to keep it serious and safe and all that because yeah there have been people you see just waving guns around and shooting blanks but a lot of people don't know it doing crazy things that you don't want Diane Feinstein show that as a representative of gun owners in general, you want them to show this, uh, he's not here.
Kentucky Patriot was here today, he's the kind of guy that sits on his living room couch or at the dining room table and talks to the audience and "It's like he's a regular guy like everyone else and that's what we got." to agree. Well, that sounded politically correct. Didn't it sound super? That sounded super politically correct. Well, now what comes with everything Paul is is you, you, you." You're not going to agree with me on what I'm about to say, you've had a really good effect on young men and people who have been able to watch the media growing up and see a good example of gun safety.
Damn, Paul. I learned something from you, when I was in the military, I was watching you shoot one day and you're talking about staying visually aware while reloading, that's something I've gotten bad at sometimes, where I focus on reloading, so I was I was watching you when you shot and kept your eyes up. I thought about my bad words. I thought I need to improve because I saw you doing that, so it's like those little things have a big impact on people. all the difference makes all the difference, not just if you're talking about hypothetical self-defense or something, but in the reality of going deer hunting, um, you see someone joking as the deer passes by and he doesn't.
I don't see it, these are all the things, the habits that you have to adopt to be successful. I totally agree with you. Now that you've done a lot of this, you've had hands-on time with a lot of firearms, so we have to ask. You're a tough question, probably the toughest question you've ever been asked in your entire life, which is superior rifle, superior shotgun, superior pistol, okay, yeah, no, not that we're going to have any controversy with that, okay, I'll do. the best I can, okay. your favorites, that's what they want to know, yes, my favorite top rifle, there are two Ruger 1022 and M16 A1.
I love it, it's actually pretty good. I think everyone here grew up with the 1022, what a great rifle, top gun, top gun, okay we went with a 22. My best gun for turkey hunting is my Beretta 92fs, you hunt turkeys with a 92. I wouldn't say hunt it, but I carry several with it, yes, and it's really good because Full Metal Jacket ammo kills the turkey very effectively, but no. chewing any meat, uh, another, it's like hitting, it's like hitting a human from The Cannonball, yeah, another, uh, one of my favorite hand guns, my old Ruger military CA and my ball revolver, oh, those are Good ones and I have to tell you one thing, I'm kidding, it's the Beta M922 looks and works exactly the same as the M9, but it's the best training aid ever.
Those would be my best guns. Okay, you have a shotgun. The top shotgun. Rosy Coach Gun and honestly Mossberg 500. that's then superior being Pro what we have right here oh yeah, now yeah, did you have these when no, no, when I came in we were wearing ear muffs and then they handed us pelters and all that, but we qualified with an M16 A2 with iron sights, yes, so we still did it, but it was suitable for the Air Force, so it was not later, we knew the war qualifying aspect and that was better, but look at this, always I have it.
With me yes, I realize that I use them. Sometimes I wear earrings when I drive and I always count on this one. I got them. I don't forget how long you have them and show the audience. Yes, I have earring protection for how long. you've had them for oh I have them on my left Or I suck we had this here for over 20 years how long have you had the jacket? It's a question, oh, this is new, this doesn't seem new, like what, define new, when. I bought this jacket, it was in new condition, just because I wear it all the time it's a little worn, no, this jacket may be 50 years old, but it was in someone's closet for 40 years, okay, okay, I understand you , You have many?
These jackets that I've always worn, you really have like it's like you know, like an outdoor cartoon character, it's like they're all the same jacket. I have to order them online from eBay so sometimes I buy them and they don't Sometimes they don't fit, they don't have the features I want, sometimes people give them to me, sometimes I have different ones for different ones, yeah so I sold some recently CU. I'm not filming anymore, but until recently I had at least a dozen of these and depending on what you're doing, I'll tell you if you get a coat like this, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
I'm going to try them. I'm going to have to try one. I'm going to get one for Micah too. The game bag inside. Yes, he is back here. I watch you shoot whatever and put it in the bag. There you go, these are things we've lost. because that's how we talk to Paul, we see that they have the projectile loops in the pocket, yes it's very useful, but there is a version that has the projectile loops up here with just a flap over them so you can access them faster, it's useful, yes, it's useful. It's easy now that you've been doingvideos for so long, Paul.
I guess the question is, are there any favorites or are there any that stand out to you that you'd like to mention to people? mention yes, so you have done it, you have made many videos, is there any that you like oo? That was good one, you guys should 100% check it out. That's why shooting from a car is one of my favorites. Interesting, can you tell me more about that? Boys do it. If you are walking down the street, someone is going. to get a driveby, this is what you need to pay attention to, okay, truth be told, it was just an excuse to show off my car, that's fair, yeah, that's what it's all about, shooting from the car, not from the bed, not where you're leaving from.
Shooting from bed, oh, that's fun too, you know, seriously, although one of the things I like to do is post decent information, so there are videos that are a little boring, but show good information, like my introduction to shotguns, which is good. Good information for people who are new to shooting. One of the videos I really like is any of our Thanksgiving specials, we work a lot to make them but they are so fun to make and the audience really seems to like them. people love them, they post about them every Thanksgiving, people like I'm ready for Herold's Thanksgiving special and this last Thanksgiving was shortly after I broke my pelvis and oh Man, it took some work, but yeah, it was me.
I was thanking God every day. that I did it, you made it work, although it was difficult, but we did it there, yes, but oh, that's one that tries to prove the question, which is a good hollow point 32 ACP M, yes, the answer is none. I couldn't find any. that worked, it was worth it, this whole thing sucks, yeah, I mean, they're just shooting meat. The target gets no expansion from anything. What about car 25? I have a baby Browning that I'm very attached to, that's great, yeah. Because they are great at finding baby Browning. I normally use but it's funny, oh you know, something that surprised me was shooting a bird with your shotgun at 50 and 100 yards.
Actually, I only knew that at range you obviously lose effectiveness, but I shot the meat. Aim at 50 yards. and pee didn't even penetrate interesting they made dents in it and it would have stone but it wouldn't have caused a significant wound how interesting and that surprised me a lot and I was using a pretty powerful 12 gauge ammo using like Magnum uh like it was 2 and 3/4 inches , but 2 and 3/4 inches is normally 3 and 3/4 grams, this is four grams, oh God, oh, I mean, it was powerful and at 50 yards it didn't penetrate the meat. Target everyone and I was really surprised by that change, it probably saved some people's lives from loading their gun with, you know, buckshot trying to do home defense on the ranch or something, yeah, it wouldn't have worked in absolute.
Home defense like 10 yards and less pellets is going to do a lot of damage. I have found that shotguns in general surprise me because they have such low pressure that it is very unpredictable what it does, like our test that we do. I'm done with shotguns. I've always thought that's okay, interesting, I noticed I didn't expect that and there's so much variation, you put in a brand of ammo, well you have like federal flight control, which became the standard, but before that it was like oh, which taco is better and like people I really know you did it I know you all spent a lot of time trying to find a shotgun that could go through like 30 yeah and there's not many that don't uh another thing that surprised me. are those federal mini shells, yes they had a lot more power than I thought they would for short range home defense, yes that's going to be pretty cool, yes one thing that really surprised me: my experience with the 16 gauge is very limited, okay, but I was able to get two Winchester 97 shotguns with the same barrel length, 116 and 112 G.
I love them, I bought the exact same brand of ammo, except for the fact that the 16 gauge had a little less shot as the 12 gauge, I'm sure it had exactly the same velocity. there's no step down in power and I got to that it's one of those moments where, wow, that really surprised me, at least with the brands of ammo they tried on me, interesting, that's not something I would have expected in absolute. I always thought, oh yeah. 16 gauge for a new shooter because yeah you know no the guns are smaller and lighter enough than 12 gauge even though the gun is less powerful sometimes your recoil is a little close to the same yeah I think so but from 12 gauge to 20 gauge is almost always a big drop in power, but from 12 to 16, depending on your ammo options, sometimes it's not a step down, that's not at all what I expected, again, It's not what I expected at all, uh, I didn't expect to be able to do it.
I didn't find a single F 32 ACP card that had a good hollow point. I tried several types on meat or through clothing, as well as through typical meat. Goal four layers of t-shirt, oh yeah, and we had several different types. Don't know. Remember now I would have to watch the video but none of the hollow points expanded barely which is a similar result to what I got with 25 ACP but that's expected from a small cartri like 25 when I'm paying a dollar and a half for 32 ACP ammo, that's supposed to be a big deal. I was hoping it would really work.
I thought the manufacturer could do some significant testing, but not enough, but not enough, yes, the 40 and 10 thousand were one. That surprised me when you mentioned that, remember, we talked about this in our 10k video, but you want to talk about where the lid originally popped, it was in your videos. I was doing some stuff with 40 and 10. and some people were asking what the real difference in power is, well let's go to the chronograph, so I had two identical guns of the same barrel length and all those 40, 10, I bought ammo that was of the same make and type, and there was one that was Like one of the federal ammunition, the difference between the velocities of their 40 and their 10 mm was almost zero, within the variation of one round or the next, so that Federal is a little short on their 10mm, but other brands have a Many other brands actually load it at 10mm, but not all of them and that was a big scandal when it came out.
I remember and real 10mm ammo is powerful, but sometimes Federal ever talked to you, no, I bet. probably C, someone, okay, you want me to tell you a company, I can't remember which one contacted me and said they wanted to send me a gun, okay, now this happens occasionally and when they do they never send me a gun, it's a scam, it's just It's It's a joke, but I always tell them, "Okay, we'll send it to this or that distributor." Damn, they actually sent me a gun. Oh, okay, they sent me. They told me they sent me an AR platform.
All they sent me was the lower receiver. Like, okay, what do you want me to do with that? And the real thing is that in all the time I've been doing this, the only time a manufacturer sent me a real firearm, Tas was that FK Bruno, oh. Yeah, yeah, okay, we did a big test on that, but FK Bruno is a cool weapon, but outside the mainstream, so there's not much I can use. Roy's been doing this for two weeks and Garon sends him that nice 10mm Hunter Model 1911, like, geez, guys. like his war face or something, I guess so, you, but I wonder how much money you cost Federal with that 40 first 10mm deal, probably none, probably some at least CR Street Cred, at least there was someone who contacted me to tell me that.
He told me he was a representative of some ammunition company I don't remember which but it was one that the ammunition wasn't really very impressive and he badmouthed everything we did and it was so terrible and all that and I invited him to send me He gave me more ammunition and I We tried again, but he never did, so you're too scared, yeah, well, luckily, like there's a box of ammo in that Chiefs, he can smash it, it's not too hard, uh, you know, Paul, I know that you have many things to do. today, so I don't want to take up too much of your time, other than to thank you and end here, I want to do two things, one, what information or what knowledge would you like to pass on so far. kind of a summary of all these videos and then I'd like to introduce you to Roy, okay, and invite him to come so we can talk about the future and everything and what that looks like, okay, yeah, he can tell you about the future , Yeah.
If I had to sum it all up it is, first of all, just at the moment when you think you know something, you are going to discover that you know nothing. I learn new things almost every week. The next thing I tell you is that you have to protect your second amendment rights and no one is going to protect them except you, you are an ambassador of the 2A community wherever you go and every time you do something, every time someone reads your bumper sticker, think about the message it sends. to the people and uh and remember that you represent all of us okay, even that sounded like that was good, that was good, thank you very much, do you want to introduce us to Roy Roy, come here, right, Roy, come see you're a super tall guy. get another chair here for you what's going on how are you I'm fine fine thanks Paul this is up to you boss oh okay wait let me think about something super deep this has to be amazing oh okay ready yeah .
Well hello everyone, this is my brother Roy, my current condition is what it is. I left the making of videos to him and so far he has made a few and is moving forward, obviously the videos will be a little different but I think they will still be pretty good. His experience with firearms is in some cases similar to mine and in some cases very different, so I think he will do a great job. Alright. We've been talking. We will definitely have them come to the field, we will definitely introduce them and we will definitely want to be there.
It's been an absolute pleasure talking to you and we have Paul has some things to do. but gentlemen, thank you very much for watching and Roy, we hope to do many more things with you, for sure, thanks boss, I appreciate it.
