The Laptop of Tomorrow is HERE

Apr 10, 2024
I mean it has a kind of sci-fi feel to it, it's like something you'd see in the future in a sci-fi movie that you like, oh I wish we had that now like this, that's what it is, so I'm done to account. How many different Zen books we've seen over the years

here

at unbox therapy when they brought out this year's version, the Zen Duo 2024 book, it was like taking a little trip down memory lane to see how far the Zenbook line has come. let's start in 2018, this

here

is called the Pro 15 ux 580g now at least initially it looks like a pretty standard

laptop

, we've got some HDMI, a couple of Thunderbolt ports, USB ports, there's a Micro SD and an analog audio jack, now Zenbook has always had it.

It had this kind of sleek design, these kind of luxurious looking colours, so it's almost like a dark blue brushed looking fingerprint scanner, there was a full size keyboard and quite generous trackpad, but the look factor shape was quite typical now, even in 2018, they were thinking about the future of the Zen book and designing prototypes like this, so this was called the precog project and this is incredibly small now, when you open it you realize it's something quite different and it was certainly something very different in 2018 as you see the two screens there, this is a dual screen

laptop

obviously an early concept of something that eventually got manufactured so this hardware is not final or anything like that, this was experimental at the time, but it was about thinking about what could happen if we could have a dual screen laptop and have the secondary screen act as input similar to a tablet, but with a Zenbook Duo 14 secondary screen we are until 2021 , now this is where we introduce the secondary internal display with the incredibly unique hinge mechanism here that lifts up the secondary display that had touch inputs with this kind of matte finish to deal with Reflections and this trackpad with unusual vertical orientation and offset keyboard now, a even though the trackpad was vertically oriented the way you operated it. you wouldn't know the difference because it mapped to the screen accordingly and the other thing that happened here was we got some improved cooling by raising the entire table platform so you have tons of airflow that was happening underneath as well in 2021 14x slim, lightweight OLED is still an interesting hinge design that lifts the laptop platform off the desktop but of course it doesn't have that secondary display there and instead opts for the thinnest and lightest possible and just check it out. hinge capability so you can lie back on the couch, choose any angle you need to feel comfortable folded Zenbook 2022 and they called it 17 because obviously, in its unfolded state with the keyboard deck, you had this huge screen and this really interesting case concept .

More Interesting Facts About,

the laptop of tomorrow is here...

I mean, this almost looks like some kind of art tablet, then you fold it like this and put your wireless keyboard on it and you have something that looks more like a laptop interface. This was incredibly ambitious at the time. Also, it was taking advantage of new technologies in terms of foldable OLED displays, but of course, as the technology was new and novel, you ended up with something that was substantially thicker than some of the other offerings, which brings us to 2024 and the Zenbook Duo for 2024. Here we have the retail packaging for the new model. Now I can say it right away like I haven't seen this device before, but I can tell right away that this is going to be pretty slim and small in this little box if you look at it around the box, uh, there's no real indication of what it's with.

I'm dealing with, we lift up and we still have that special angled reveal of the device which is indicative of the hinge design they've been using on the Zenbook, okay now we have Got the device itself, oh wow the packaging turns into a little support to increase the angle of the keyboard platform, you know what? Before we open it up, let's check out this second bag here, oh oh, a 2.0 stylus with 4.096 pressure sensitivity and look at the little one. Pretty portable 65WT power brick, eh, interesting, a built-in metal stand, so why would we want to have it like that?
the laptop of tomorrow is here
I guess we want to lift it like this. Oh my goodness, okay, so it won't be foldable OLED, but two screens. two dedicated screens, what's going on will allow you to get a good look at this marvel which is sleek, obviously much sleeker and slimmer than previous iterations of the dual screen laptop and then the keyboard accessory which, when installed, it really tricks you into thinking it's just a normal laptop, that's the biggest difference, it's not secondary but rather it behaves much more like you would expect from a dedicated laptop, so this stand on the back allows you to hold all when you work at a desktop and then remove the keyboard and still have your trackpad and keyboard based input or select an external peripheral that you might want to use obviously whatever external keyboard and mouse you choose and then have this dual screen setup like this now, could I?
Also yes, but you can do a dual portrait like this, then fold the stand down and you can also fold it without the keyboard installed and it actually becomes even lighter if you want to travel like that and you're going to use it. Mainly I guess pen based input or touch input, its power switch is very interesting built into the top, look around the device and it has two Thunderbolts, it also has a USB port on the other side, full size HDMI It's still there and its analog audio jack, but this is one of the more polished versions of a dual-screen laptop that I've presented here in this way.
It really fooled me at first. I thought: wait, where is the duo? What's so Duo? So the power I just noticed an input on the keyboard deck, as well as a dedicated Bluetooth switch and a battery indicator, so because you have those Pogo pins there, the laptop's main unit will charge the keyboard deck , so you're not even going to need to think about it as long as it's installed, so the new Duo will feature Intel Core Ultra 9 chips, it'll have up to 32 gigs of memory, up to 2 tbytes of SSD storage, those two Thunderbolt ports are compatible with Thunderbolt 4. the weight is 1.35 kg and the thickness is 14.6 mm and these OLED displays are both 3K and 120 HZ, so when you add up tons of pixels, we have a vibrant and colorful and that's not even the maximum brightness.
In fact, I then remove the keyboard and immediately have my secondary display illuminating my trackpad. It behaves like a dual screen situation. I'm going to shore it up for you, you know what I'm going to shore it up for you. You can appreciate the dual screen situation. I mean, if you know, it's cool to fold it all the way back. Beyond one of the secondary benefits of this, it's just the desktop experience because it raises my main monitor much higher. If I'm sitting in front of this and working, this is a more comfortable place for my work than where a typical laptop would end up, which would be down here and then I can put my secondary things on this screen, but like my main reading or my work main thing was happening on this top screen to keep my neck up almost like I was looking at an external monitor or something on a monitor arm and yet because of the way they designed this Stand up, it's extremely sturdy, it's a Little strange to write on something so thin.
I don't even think I've written to the on any laptop. Well, I definitely haven't typed on a laptop this thin, but I have on any keyboard. That thin. Yes, somehow there are some key travel there and also a fairly large keyboard, so I can be watching a video above and reading some news below. Now let's go ahead and add some volume and of course we also have a touch stage that's like somewhere in the arms. length, it's a matter of versatility, it's like you're ready to go. I hit the keyboard here, here, there and I'm ready to go.
Let's go ahead and do a quick demo of the pen here, the hidden retractable USBC door for charging. addictive click, so I mean the story of a product like this is versatility; However, they have made progress in creating a device that hides its versatility better than the previous generation and still performs the initial task of being a laptop better than some of those previous generations. There you have it Zenbook Duo, the evolution of the Zenbook Duo, this is a 2024 model. I don't think you can argue with the fact that this is the most evolved version and the best case so far for a dual screen device in a factor of laptop shape.
