Tokyo has it all. She had found herself in one of the most interesting cities the world has to offer and she loved it. She decided to move a little further east of central Tokyo to a place called Chiba. The rent was cheaper here.
She also moved in with two other teachers. They both also worked at another. school and very quickly the three became friends and soon after Lindsay's time in Tokyo began to fly by, although she loved her time away from home, Lindsay often still thought about home, she had a loving family, a great group of friends and a boyfriend in England and that said, the local bird often kept in touch via Facebook, Skype, text messages and phone calls. Six months into a stay in Tokyo in March 2007, Lindsay had an awkward encounter: She had finished work for the day and traveled back to Chiba. station before picking up her bike while she was unlocking her bike, a man approached her from behind her when she turned around, the man greeted her saying "you're my English teacher." Lindsay was confused by the situation, she was sure that he was not one of her students, she awkwardly refused to comment, but the man continued to follow her, she jumped on his bike and started to ride away, but still the man followed her, he sped up. his walk and turned.
She began jogging and then jogging and then running and with the many roads and trails that intersected in Cheba, it was almost impossible for Lindsay to escape him. He continued to strike up a conversation by asking Lindsay where she was from and where she was studying. She still tried to get rid of him, although she finally got to her apartment and this is where she stopped her bike. The man was known as Tatsuya Ichihashi and had been running after Lindsay the entire time back home, when he finally caught up to her, he had a proposal to make and despite a strange performance.
The offer was quite simple and innocent. Tatsuya asked Lindsay if she would be interested in giving him English lessons. He felt that she needed a little help with the language. They could meet at a cafe and she would pay him handsomely by the hour. Lindsay politely declined, her work schedule was busy enough and the time she had free was on her own terms, having fun. Tatsuya was disappointed, but he seemed to accept her answer, but it was here that she asked him one last strange question that she was thirsty for. Practically chasing Lindsay through the streets of Chiba, he asked her if she would politely give him a glass of water at her apartment.
Lindsay doubted her, but she reluctantly allowed him into her apartment, certain that he was a strange man and that he made her feel. uncomfortable but she had two roommates, this was a good opportunity to indirectly show the man that she had company at all times and it was a chance for her friends to see her

face

in case it came up again in the future, they entered the apartment together . and it was a privileged apartment while she was taking her drink that she made the offer again. This time she came with a price tag. He had paid Lindsay 3,500 yen or 32 per hour and the interaction would be strictly business.
This was an offer that Lindsay couldn't. she refused, even though Nova was helping her survive in Tokyo, she could use some extra money and this was easy money. She accepted her request and decided to meet him at a coffee shop a few days later. Tatsuya was grateful and thanked Lindsay for the offer earlier. He would leave her apartment although she wanted to give him one last thing. He took a pen out of her back pocket and grabbed some paper and then started to scribble something. A few moments later she handed him the note. It was a sketch she had.
He just drew one of Lindsay and next to the sketch was her name and her phone number. Tatsuya Ichihashi was a 28-year-old man from the city of Ichikawa, also located in Chiba Prefecture. He was born in Gifu Prefecture on January 5, 1979 and initially grew up. There, before moving to Chiba, he was born into a successful family, his father was a doctor at a local hospital in Chiba, while his mother was also a professional dentist. In his youth, Tatsuya had ambitions to follow in his father's footsteps to become a doctor, but when he failed his exams and was denied the chance to further his studies, he settled for obtaining a degree from horticulture department.
She graduated from Chiba University in 2005 and although she passed her degree relatively well, Tatia made no effort to find work, instead living on an allowance of 100,000 yen or 920 a month from her parents and this is where we learn a little more about the dark half of tatsuya ichihashi tatsuya had no previous convictions with the law but had been the subject of a previous robbery and battery charge he had allegedly assaulted a woman on the street during a robbery, but the matter was resolved outside of the courts. It is alleged that his father paid the woman around 1 million yen or 10,000.
He was also described as a loner with an obsession for fitness. Tatsuya regularly attended his local gym and often cycled more than 25 kilometers every day. days. In addition, Tatsuya was known for being a bit of a loner, rebellious and had no intention of finding work and with only 900 a month to survive they were weekly sessions. at 35 an hour it really was that sustainable to return to lindsay's apartment, although after giving her the sketch with her name and number, tatsia thanked lindsay for a time and the glass of water, wishing her the best until she met a few days later, fast forward several days and It is now Saturday, March 24, 2007.
Lindsay had contacted Tatsuya a couple of days earlier and they had arranged their first English lesson at a local coffee shop. CCTV captured the pair chatting while queuing for a drink. Lindsay seemed relatively relaxed. but she took clear steps back every time Tatsuya got too close, the pair sat down and talked. It was supposedly a little over an hour and progress was good in the end, although Saturday awkwardly pointed out that she had forgotten about his money, don't worry. He said he only lives half a mile up the road, why don't you come, take your money and then be on your way?
Lindsay agreed, so the two got into a taxi. Lindsay hadn't brought her bike that day and she also had work later in the afternoon, so when she arrived at Tatsuya she asked the taxi driver if he would be so kind as to wait for her. He agreed, so Lindsay followed Tatsia to her apartment several minutes later, although Lindsay had not yet returned. That's a little strange, the taxi driver thought, but maybe she changed her plans, don't worry, so with that note she left, completely forgetting about the incident. Lindsay didn't show up for work that afternoon and, even worse, she never returned to her apartment or her housemates since they noticed she wasn't at work that day began to worry about Lindsay and called the police later that night to report her. disappearance but Saturday turned into Sunday and Sunday turned into Monday Lindsay's family and friends returned.
At home in the UK they were already starting to worry about her radio silence, but it was only after Monday when she was missing a second day of work that panic really started to take over the school and he contacted his parents to inform them that he was already absent. two days in a row and contacted the police immediately afterwards, it was only then that the police began to take Lindsay's disappearance a little more seriously. Police search efforts began at Lindsay's home and the housemates were the first to be interviewed and hopefully already had a suspect in mind.
They knew that Lindsay went to see a man at a coffee shop shortly before she disappeared and she had also left the sketch of her at her apartment. This was her first clue. It was around 5:40 p.m. m. when they sent two officers. to Tatsuya's house, but after knocking on his door no one answered, although her neighbors were home and kindly let the officers watch from the balcony and Tatsia's living room. There were no lights on on the property, but there appeared to be someone lurking. Inside and, interestingly, her removable bathtub had been moved from the bathroom to the balcony on a hunch.
The two officers called for backup. They were concerned that Lindsay might be inside being held hostage, and within the hour seven more officers arrived. Three hours and nine officers. Later and the police were preparing to raid Tatsuya's house, it was then in a surprise moment that Tatsuya opened the front door with a backpack on his feet, in that moment of panic, Tatsuya walked past the police, they tried to grab him but they only managed to get their Tatsuya's own backpack slipped, they also failed to keep up with Tatsuya, as the hallways of the building were so narrow and confusing that he managed to get through and as the police officers lacked radio equipment, they completely lost of sight to the man, so in the middle of Tatsuya in the city of Tokyo he disappeared into the night, it was as if the man had literally disappeared into thin air because Tatsuya was nowhere to be found.
Police officers investigating his property moments later would come across a gruesome scene where they had found Lindsey's naked body. street vendor found her buried in Tatsia's removable bathtub that he himself had moved to the balcony. The bathtub had been filled with a mixture of sand and dirt, almost completely covering Lindsay with only her right hand emerging from the surface. She had been tied and gagged. With plastic ties, scarves and bruises on her upper body in her final hour she had been subjected to a prolonged assault, her possessions still scattered around the room along with sand and dirt from her body in the balcony bathtub.
It also contained a decomposition agent to speed up the decomposition process and flower seeds were placed on top to disguise the bathtub as a flower bed; the seeds would eventually feed on Lindsay's body to add to the heartbreaking discovery. It was also strangely noted that Tatsuya had shaved off all of Lindsay's hair. Police would also discover several wigs in Tatsu's apartment claiming that perhaps he was a transvestite. This quickly became public knowledge and soon after evenRumors began to circulate suggesting that perhaps Tatsuya had killed Lindsay to use her hair as a wig the next morning. Ichihashi was officially a wanted man throughout Japan.
Police distributed wanted posters throughout the city. His face was shown on multiple news sites. Interviews were given to anyone who might have potential information and raids were witnessed at locations of possible sightings of the suspect, but despite all efforts. Like a ghost, Tatia was nowhere to be seen, almost no sightings of the man were reported over the next few weeks, in fact they all became dead ends, although the police were so keen to capture the suspects that they decided post photoshopped images of Tatsuya wearing wigs in case he was in disguise, but Tatsuya was good at blending in, in fact, he was so good at evading the police that his disappearance went from weeks to months to years and this frustrated the Lindsay's family because in addition to the relentless pain that they had to experience from the loss of their daughter was the feeling that her

killer

escaped, it was not only that, but they also felt that the Japanese police were becoming lazy and careless in their investigations, so infuriated Lindsay's parents that, just months after her death, the two traveled to Japan and single-handedly helped raise awareness about Lindsay's

killer

.
His father, Bill, even met members of the Japanese mafia, the yakuza, in a bar he gave them two bottles of whiskey as a gift before asking them for help and, as time passed, the Japanese police soon found themselves at the center of attention. How did nine police officers let a man escape? Why did it take them a month to interrogate vital witnesses and they knew that their wanted poster had a seven-year-old photo. The police and the peddlers' family would slowly begin to argue with each other and soon the British and Japanese media would also get involved and while all this was going on, Tatsuya was still there, he had actually traveled through most of Japan during his time in the escape, from Aomori, one of the northernmost cities on the main island of Japan, to the southern island of Okinawa.
Tatsuya had gone unnoticed, even living on a remote island in a concrete bunker at times to avoid detection also a year after Lindsay's death in 2008 and throughout 2009, Tatsuya found himself in Osaka, located 250 miles west. from Tokyo. Osaka is a large port city and commercial center of Honshu, it is known for its modern architecture and nightlife. and abundant street food, it was during this time that Tatsuya habitually lived in internet cafes and worked on construction sites to survive on the money he could save. He would undergo plastic surgery to change his appearance and avoid being caught by the law.
However, in reality he had already changed his appearance through self-mutilation since he was wanted by the law, he cut off his moles, used scissors to cut off part of his lower lip and finally passed a thread through his nose to alter the shape of it. In the summer of 2009, the police were painfully desperate to find Tatsia. It was here that the national police agency increased the cash reward for information leading to his arrest from 1 million yen to 10 million yen. They also released a new statement reporting that Tatsuya was believed to have had plastic surgery performed on his face to alter his appearance and that people should be on the lookout for similarities in Tatsuya's special IDs and it worked because in October 2009 a plastic surgeon located in Nagoya reported to the police that he believed he had just worked at Tatsuya Tatsuya.
He had foolishly agreed to take a before and after photo of his operation, the same photos would be shared with the police and eventually the world shook Tetsuya, he knew that the photos just released by the police had blown his cover, in fact, it was So successful that one of his colleagues at a construction site in Osaka recognized him. Tatsuya knew that he had to leave Osaka and hide quickly. His plan was as he had done before in several other situations near the Okinawan fleet and take refuge in one of the abandoned concrete bunkers found. through its many remote islands on November 10, 2009 he discreetly fled to the Osaka ferry port, after three days of keeping his head down on a slow Takanawa ferry he would finally be in a much safer position away from justice, but before he could reach the Tatsuya's luck on the ship finally ran out.
A worker at the same port had recognized his face and informed security that this could very well be the Ichihashi and they were right because just a few moments later, Tatsuya came face to face with a handful of officers and they questioned him. by his name and at that moment he knew that everything was over, he told them that yes, I am Tatsuya Ichihashi, the game was over. He was later formally arrested by police and was initially charged with abandoning a body. He would later receive two more arrest warrants for rape and murder and it would take him eight months to finally meet with his jury on July 4, 2011, his trial began and with the outcome fairly certain from the start, the deliberation would not last long, much attention focused on how Japan's judicial system works.
He would punish Tatsuya, although Japan applies the death penalty, not many one-man murderers consider that to be his destiny, but Tatsuya was a highly publicized man in the media and many voices supported the idea during his trial. Tatsu admitted that he attracted Lindsay. In her apartment he raped her and then strangled her because he was afraid the neighbors would hear her scream and call the police on July 21, 2011 Tatsuya Ichihashi was officially sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Lindsay Hawker and although Lindsay's family had asked The death penalty for Tatsuya The court found that the death penalty was not appropriate since he had no prior convictions and at the age of 32 there was still a chance that he could one day be rehabilitated.
The trial would not come without a fair amount of new devastation and Pain for Lindsay's family, however, not only would they have to relive her final moments again, but they would also have to see new images of Lindsay's body, something they regret seeing after Tatsuya's sentencing. Lindsay's parents shared the following with state media. We have waited a long time. it's time today we have waited four and a half years for justice lindsay loved japan and you have not let her down ichihashi you have taken a precious life you destroyed an entire existence and stole countless memories from us the verdict that puts tatsu behind bars for life was welcomed by the majority of people in the nation and Tatsu himself accepted his own fate shortly before the trial.
Tatsu had written and published a book in which he confessed to Lindsay's murder, most of his biography described how he had spent two and a half years on the run and what he had to do to avoid detection the book that bore that name until he found me. They were arrested, it was offered with all the royalties and profits to Lindsay's family and it would sell more than a hundred thousand copies worldwide, but Lindsay's family rejected the offer and despite Tatsuya's strange attempt as a good deed, nothing could bring them back. Her daughter Lindsay was much loved, successful, cheerful and irreplaceable.
She was in the middle of an incredible experience abroad doing good by teaching others a new and valuable skill and in the end it was a kindness that was used against her by a strange and unlucky man. heart, her parents, her sisters and all her friends will miss her daily.
