Hello, where have you been? What have you been doing? It's been four years, five years since the last album and now you have a new one, a relapse, but it's been a long period, this was a deliberate step to get away from things. I guess so, I wanted to get away from the spotlight for a while. You know, I guess I reevaluate my entire career. No? I mean I ended up in rehab. in 2005 and you know, I just wanted it like I was trying to figure out where I was going, you mean where I was going in my personal and professional life and everything, like where I was, what I was going to do.

I kind of wanted to know that I still wanted to, I knew I wanted to take a break from the spotlight, but at the same time I still wanted to make music, you know, because I'd go crazy if I didn't make music, yeah. I guess you were still creating light music in that period, even if you were controlling it, yeah I was writing music too, but I don't know, I took the producers room even further and you know, I stepped away from the microphone. although I mean I was still making songs at this point, but it just wasn't like that.

I wasn't doing anything that I felt was good enough to publish at the time and so, then, and then what happened, it just clicked. again, oh, you just thought it was the right time, well, I got sober, in the first place, you mean, so I understood, how was it, was that difficult trip, was it a difficult thing to do, oh yeah, definitely, It was quite difficult. You know, there were a couple of years that were pretty bad for me, but you know, I've been sober for a little over a year, so I'm fine, happy in Congress, okay, I've been ugly.

I have the new. The album isn't fully out yet. They have given me some clues. I have enjoyed them a lot. They're great from the fantastic singles, but I love it. You know I'm a bigger Mario. I think you are one. talented why that what was the song you did to act that was your name Marla get lost yeah that's got the best thing it's just so amazing it captures the kind of fear of acting and the neat way and the layout I thought that was an extraordinary job if not you would be doing it now if you weren't writing rap you would be if you had written beforehand it was rap that led you to write in the first place so you were already expressing yourself that way weren't you?

I mean no, I didn't really like starting out right, it was definitely hip-hop. You know, I didn't know. I didn't pick up a pen and realize I could write anything until you found out that rap led me to do that. You know, I mean, I heard Ice-t Reckless was one of the first songs I heard once I heard Run DMC LL Cool J. I was like this is what I want. This is the first wave of the great rappers. This is really you. one there look at those guys, did you like a Houdini and those guys too oh yeah?

The Fat Boys remember The Fat Boys yeah man all you can eat we should get together we should do something it could be released something together would be hot um let me write something and I'm sure people knew rap Garcés , what do you sing? er a little bit? a little bit of Frank Sinatra maybe yes, a lot of Frank Sinatra Lee yes, you have a good voice, no, I mean, I sing on my records, I really can't, I'm not a singer, but it's not singing, singing, it's not like all the summer breeze.

I don't know, that's officially singing, regardless of what you think, but are you ever tempted to let loose on a record? I mean, I've done some things you know here and there, as far as singing, but you know, I'll tell him. world I can't sing that's not mine, you don't understand, what I feel is my forte, but you know some hooks if you listen to it, there's no one in them, yeah, there's a melody when the way you use your voice is melodic. Because well, yeah, as long as you can hold a key, you don't mean a note or whatever, hey, you can do it, yeah, I guess it's okay, these guys dry out.

What was it like when you were starting out? Because I know when before you came. There was only one white rat rap that I was familiar with and it was vanilla ice, okay, it was cool, it was some amazing miss von Winkle or something, don't believe it or don't believe it or don't. I interviewed him years ago and I liked him. a good guy though, it was kind of a novelty act, you really came through and it's obviously a real thing, but did you find that kind of prejudice to find that attitude from the beginning? People say they can't. do it because he's a white guy and his music is essentially black.

I mean, yeah, early on I went through a little bit of that, but I mean, I think at the end of the day, I guess you do, while you do. your heart is in it and you know, you just keep persevering, you know you're going to make a breakthrough, I mean, I don't know, I mean, it was, certainly, it wasn't easy, you know, I mean, but I kept at it You know, I They booed off the stage, you know, a lot of times, like you know, like I did in the movie, for sure, you know, how long did it take you before you were good enough?

I think okay, this is working, how many times? Did you have bad experiences on stage? Maybe a couple, so it's not that amazing. Well let me talk about your new single because you know what I love about your work and I'm sure many produce. There is a sense of humor. It's fun. the moment is fun it's not always sometimes it's dark and you know the other things but sometimes it's very funny the new single is very fun you have a firm grasp of popular culture i think the word young people use is this you looked down on some people on the new single some yeah, yeah, now do you have any comments that you've ever met, those people deliver content, do you know what they think about it or not, I mean, this is what it is, this is the kind of way that I look at it the way I've always said, which is like these aren't personal attacks on people.

I have never met these people. No, I mean, these are not personal attacks on their characters or anything, you know it's like pulling names out of a hat and if your name rhymes with something good or if you know a pop figure, you know what I mean in this world now on a man son, are you doing Jessica Simpson and Sarah Palin? I guess she is, but you can see why if you do it with Sarah Palin, people might think, oh, he wants to make a statement about Sarah Palin or Merkin College. I want to get it right, but if someone is good.

In that you have a good chance hey you look in good shape one of the rumors I heard that we went your way that you would bloat but you got very big did you gain a lot of weight? They weren't quite enough pounds I had a lot of weight did you get um? I think I probably tipped the scale a little over 200 almost it's just this was just eating everything I was eating I was taking pills I had no business taking you know I mean doing things I just wasn't taking care of myself I wasn't taking care of my body in a way I felt like it was, you know, every time I wanted to just give up on it, you know, I mean, it was, you know, I was in a pretty dark place you could keep each other at least now you should. be exercising a lot, I guess, and you're maintaining, you have an exercise regimen that you stick to, yeah, I run a lot, I run quite a bit.

I get up in the morning. run twice a day for a while and how far do you want when you say one is half an hour ten minutes when I was running I was at a point where I was running like it was too much it was a little extreme it was a total of 17 miles, you know, so you're the one who fills the void that you had in your life when you gave up the other things there, it's a little bit addictive, yeah, it's kind of one step. addiction to the next and I'm an addict you know what I mean so I guess extremists like it from one extreme to the next well why am I thinking about one of the things you're addicted to in this moment and me?

I'm really excited about these American comics, oh yeah. I had that hobby when I was a kid, I used to collect comics a lot and I guess when I started getting sober I fell in love with it again. with comics again like, oh this is cool, why did I leave this alone? There you have it, there's Eminem on the cover of The Punisher or one of the Punisher comic series, one that should be, you should know you've arrived. when you're on the cover of The Punisher oh yeah that's how you know you made it yeah the hat you're weighing in on that particular shoot the town wedding why like my wife does anyone actually wear it on the
