The Final Years of Wii

Apr 25, 2024
exactly what I would want on my deathbed a Zinger what a joke today I would like to talk about the last

years

of the Wii mainly 2011 and 2012 Because at the end of 2012 the Wii U was released and we all know what happened after that, nothing more You know what happened before, nothing, we had one of the slowest and most painful deaths I've ever seen on a gaming console. It was that barren for those last two

years

, not even just one year, because I will say that Nintendo consoles generally tend to like it. slowly just suffer to death in its last year look back at the last year of Gamecube and it was like oh my god well you had odama chibi Robo and Twilight Princess but that was also on Wii so it's like, yeah, who cares, but at the same time.
the final years of wii
At least Nintendo also had the Nintendo DS and also the Game Boy Advance and the preparation for the Wii or at that time known as the Nintendo Revolution. I think it made the year of the baron a little more tolerable because you know, you know, yeah, if we're judging that year on its own, yeah, that's horrible, like the Wii definitely made that clear. He also considered the last year of the Nintendo 64 as what Mario Party 3 Dr Mario 64 was and then nothing for 9 months and then the GameCube was released, like that. Yes, Nintendo consoles have had worse years in recent years, but I think in general, considering everything related to the Wii, as in the last two years of this system, we knew about its successor and we weren't necessarily very excited about it. he.

More Interesting Facts About,

the final years of wii...

The Wii U was announced in June 2011. and it just felt like after that the Wii was completely on, like it didn't even feel like it really existed, it just felt like yeah, some games were coming out, but it didn't feel like the console really mattered at that moment. everything and we were coming off one of the Wii's best years in 2010, I mean like we had Mario Galaxy 2 Donkey Kong Country Returns Kirby's Epic Yarn golden i7 Epic Mickey, you had Call of Duty Black Ops on the Wii Metroid Other M Wii Party and then an addition like there was still a good amount of third party support like Red Steel 2 NBA Jam which was like a Wii exclusive originally, its Sonic colors were a Sonic exclusive game and it was actually really good at the time 2010.
the final years of wii
I just felt like I was firing on all cylinders from the first front and also the third front. We were receiving legitimate third-party support. It seemed like a good time to be a Wii owner that year and then 2011 hit and things got a lot quieter. I feel like in 2008 2009 it started to feel like, hey, the Wii is so underpowered, there's no way you can really have this instead of an Xbox 360 with a need like this. and an HD console of some kind, because you just weren't going to get the same games that the 360 and PS3 were getting during the week, you might get something from time to time, like I said with Call of Duty, but it's like I was going to be very committed, so in that era of 2008 2009 it felt like a little kid to have a Wii, so yeah, who cares about that thing? e308 was the infamous Wii music press conference for Nintendo and that's when they were focusing on a lot of the casual oriented stuff is when a lot of people liked running gaming websites at the time, you know, making gaming videos online, comment on the gaming space, yeah, they were pretty much writing off Nintendo, they were like yeah, this company, but in 2010 they made a little comeback and a lot of the Wii games were great quality, even the third party ones .

Red Steel 2 was a great comeback for Ubisoft. They originally made Red Steel 1 and it sucked that it was a title that we released and it was there just to give you the illusion that, oh man, I can have my shooter game with the Wii. I can have my sword game with the Wii. He wasn't good at anything. Red Steel 2 was pretty. Ubisoft really liked rewriting the script with Red Steel as if it basically had nothing to do with Red Steel, they just called it Red Steel 2, but it was a legitimately great game that used Wii Motion Plus.
Golden i7 was a very high quality premium shooter on the Wii it was designed specifically for the console and I love that game. Epic Mickey was a very standout game. You know, it didn't turn out to be the best. I think Epic Mickey is cooler in terms of its themes and also its old school concept. Mickey Mouse going through this warped, insane Disney World of Forgotten relics and you can use paint thinner to remove things or you can use your paintbrush to add things and it wasn't as cool as it sounds, but yeah, I mean, I like it.
It was a quality standout title, but then we got into 2011 and I'd say we took all the great games that came out in 2010 and cut 2/3 of them. Here we already have most of the titles published by Nintendo in 2011 for Wii. now in 2011, you know, we announced the Wii U but we also had the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, so of course Nintendo must have been busy with that, yeah, there were hardly any games for the 3DS. I don't know what the hell this is. company was making at the time other than this Mario Sports Mix, this is definitely a game that I think a lot of people will say, damn, that game was amazing.
I love that game. I remember specifically someone coming up to me and saying, oh yeah, I remember that game, that game is awesome and then they play for 30 minutes and they're like, oh yeah, this game isn't as awesome as I remember. I'm not going to hate this game too much, it does what it does. I think it's okay? You know, you understand what he's saying. It is a collection of a couple of sports games. You know, Mario ified, but they are very simplified. You think it's like a wide variety of sports, but in reality there are many.
These sports are presented in a very similar way, it's almost as if they all use the same court configuration. You know, you use the basketball court and then you can just take some things away, add some things and do it. you know, a hockey arena in a net becomes volleyball and you know, it just strips everything away and it becomes a dodgeball arena, you know, and it's a quality game, there's a decent amount of stuff in this, but you know when the main game is just kind of like after 30 minutes you're done, you know, it's just not a game that I think is really going to last you a long time, it's definitely not up there with the best Mario sports games.
I don't believe it. I think this is really like a great Mainstay multiplayer game, but it's just a filler Mario sports game, okay, it's kind of interesting because the Wii was definitely like an inferior era for Mario sports game spin-offs. I mean, all we got was Mario Striker. loaded and Mario Super Sluggers there's no new tennis game, there's no new golf game and, uh, tennis, we have like a version of Mario's Power Tennis on the Wii, but that was it and it's weird because you know tennis and golf were both on Wii Sports, so I hope that, oh yeah, those would be Naturals for Mario Golf and Mario Tennis, maybe it's because those sports were available on Wii Sports, that's why they didn't, but at the same time they made Mario Baseball on us, so we like what. givs and instead here are four generic Sam Sports included in the same package where you can play them all with Weir mode at their side.
They're all really simple, pretty basic, they still look good and they're still fun, but they're not very long. lasting fun, you know what lasting fun is, we don't play on the move, okay, I actually like that we play on the move, but this came out at a strange time, you know, what's the point of this in 2011? The point of playing was, in general, simply to show. like Wii Remote Pointer can like beneficial games or just how to use Wii Remote Pointer in general. I like it. I don't know any excuse to give you a basic set to get used to the We remote that also comes included. with a We remote, so to do that again with a game designed to take advantage of the Wii Remote Plus in 2011.
I don't understand why we didn't need this, so everyone who already wanted a We remote and already had one because of the Wii Sports Resort 2 years earlier, maybe they released this so more people would have the Wii Remote Plus before Skyward Sword came out that same year because that game required the Wi Remote Plus, but I don't know, I feel that way. It came out at a strange time, in fact this was the last game in the Wii series on the Wii and so I don't think many people really played with Play Motion. I remember it came out like me.
I bought it in the first week. mainly because I loved these kinds of deals, you know it was $50 and you get a wireless game plus a Wii remote, so it's like, why the hell not? I got a new wireless remote and a new game which is awesome, but 2011 was also around the time I started following gaming websites, specifically IGN, and I remember they posted a review of We Play Motion and it was like they gave it a fucking four out of 10, that's what I'm talking about here, like 2008 2009 was the era where people were like damn Nintendo, I don't want to have casual fun, they're pretty much like this game, it doesn't make sense, fuck these games casuals and I'm like Jesus Christ, man, I mean, just because you think about this game. not necessary doesn't warrant a four out of 10 there are some really great ideas in this game and quality mini games too if you would give this game a bad review because it was unnecessary why the hell did they make The Last of Us Part One? on PS5 gets such high reviews, damn Scot is going to bat because we play on the move here.
I mean, I like that we play in motion. I like that we play a little more just for the nostalgia and the pick up and play aspect that we play is really a My guilty pleasure is that we play with movement, it's more like, you know, a flat pleasure, but it's not as addictive. I guess for me, you know, it's like a lot of the things in this one are a little more like complicated, I guess for me to say oh yeah, I want to play what we played. I can go in and have mindless fun doing the ping pong rallies. uh, I'm very basic, simple and stupid, this is a better game, but uh.
I'm just saying why, if you put a gun to my head I would probably play, we played first, but yeah, this was like the second game that Nintendo released in 2011 for the Wii and then we got Mystery Case Files, the Malgrave Incident, so This is a series of Nintendo games licensed for Wii, you know, this is not like a Nintendo-owned franchise, it's like a long-running PC game franchise that's like a point-and-click hidden object game. and that's what this game is, it's a hidden game. object game where you scroll through an image and try to find what it wants you to find, it's basically I Spy.
I think there's more of an elaborate mystery story involved with it, um, but yeah, this is just kind of like that. It's fine for what it is. I like these types of games from time to time, but I like the fact that Nintendo went to great lengths to license the Mystery Case Files from the Big Fish games, that's who owns this thing instead of just not I do. making your own hidden object game isn't that difficult and I don't think the Mystery Case Files name lends that much credibility to this release, it's just weird, I mean it's quality for what it is but I don't know and that .
It takes us to the Christmas season on Wii, uh yeah, there was barely anything until the end of the year. Kirby's Return to Dreamland was announced in early 2011, randomly, at an investor meeting where they said, oh yeah, and a new Kirby game. coming to Wii just after a new Kirby game already came to Wii with the Kirby's Epic thread. I remember a lot of people saying this isn't Kirby because you know he didn't inhale stuff, but you know they showed this game and it was like, damn, this is just traditional Kirby and, you know, it seemed to be based heavily on the Kirby game.
GameCube that was announced in 2005 or something and pretty much never came out, was quietly canceled there and, uh, something. Over the next few years more footage emerged of that, you know, and it shows that while Return to Dreamland is what came out of that project, you know Kirby on GameCube was, GNA would be quite unique, something different than just Return to Dreamland . but in 2011, the traditional Kirby returned and so much time had passed. I mean, technically, the last traditional Mainline Kirby game on consoles was Kirby 64, if you don't want to count Epic Yarn as a Mainline game.
Kirby was pretty much only on handheld devices. For a while, like when it came to consoles, it was like a spin-off like Kirby Air Ride. It's quite strange to remember it because nowadays, as we are always swimming in Kirby games, it's ridiculous, but it all started thanks to Epic. Yarn and Return to Dreamland year after year and yes, I like Return to Dreamland. I think it's a good game, it's a bit basic, it's a lot like a new Kirby game in the style of Super Mario Brothers, you know, and that can be a bit harsh because you know the game has a lot of its own things, it's not not just the most basic Kirby game, but they simply improved them over time.
You know Triple Deluxe was a little more special than his Return to Dreamland and then PlanetRoboot were way more special than both games so you know they made them better over time and then we got star Kirby allies and that just threw everything out the window but this was a solid game you know. of continuing the 2D renaissance that the new Super Mario Brothers started and also the four-player multiplayer that the new Super Mario Brothers Wii really made a big deal of at the time. I remember Destructoid giving this game a 10 out of 10. That's a bit far off, but I like Kirby's Return to Dreamland, specifically the Nintendo Switch remake.
That one, I went further on this one. I probably got like four worlds and I liked it, but then, you know, I decided I'm like you. Do you know what happens if I

final

ly finish Return to Dreamland? I'm going to do it on Switch. It's not that this version is bad at all, as the Remake is honestly more of a modern way to play. Damn, this game really needed a remake and it needed some things fixed, but you know, this has always been a good quality Kirby game and it was never a good quality Kirby game, it's Mario and Sonic, so this It is not published by Nintendo. uh, you know this was published by Sega, but well, you know it's Mario, so Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, uh, definitely a very quality Mario and Sonic game, still Mario and Sonic, uh, you know what's really annoying, my copy has always had like a hole in it, but I can't easily replace the case because it's a damn yellow case.
God, this was the era with the Winter Olympics before and the Winter Olympics. London 2012 is really like this is like Peak Mario and Sonic, but like I said still Mario and Sonic is like a Miname Olympic sports collection, you can still have fun with it, but you know, I never liked these. I never got into these outside of the core concept of Mario and Sonic. Yes, but curiously Mario and Sonic were not the big title of the week that year. I know it's surprising that everything was gearing up for the release of The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword.
Wow, this was a bit of a divisive one that people always talk about like it's a Zelda cycle. It's kind of like Pokémon also has a cycle where it feels like you know a game comes out and there are people who really like it, but then there's a really loud crowd that doesn't really like it, uh and and you just wait. 10 years and then people will be like, “Oh damn, I love this Fing game.” This is the best game ever. Why isn't Zelda like this more often? Skyward Sword is definitely still something like that. of the weakest main zeldas, that doesn't mean it's bad.
I think the Nintendo Switch remaster definitely cleans things up a bit, cleans up some issues and makes it a lot easier to appreciate the game as a whole and especially now. that we have things like breath of the wild and tears of the Kingdom. I think it shows that it's nice to have a more linear Zelda game. I really like Skyward Sword, it's not perfect, it's not like the best Zelda game, but you know, it's still that way. I think it still deserves to be alongside the other Zelda titles. I think it's a great game, but this was the only thing that mattered on the Wii in 2011.
Everything else. What was mentioned was kind of like stuff that Nintendo farted from time to time, I mean like you know you had quality stuff like Kirby, but even then you know it's a pretty basic Kirby game, of course that's what what the series needed. at the time, but you know, it didn't really feel as triumphant as I think they wanted it to feel, oh man, Kirby's back after he already returned a year ago, looking back, 2011 was pretty much completely defined just waiting for Skyward Sword and Fortune Street, okay, this was the last thing that Nintendo released in 2011 for the Wii, it's like a long-running series in Japan, you know, more or less like a monopoly type game, Itagaki Street, and here it's mostly done by Square Unix so see Dragon Quest characters on that guy and Nagaki Street got a DS version with Mario characters so it was like a crossover with Mario there and then they made a Wii version where they continued that tradition and decided to bring it back . around here and this was pretty much the only version of Igaki Street to come out of Japan and I'm pretty sure they only localized this because what else was going on in 2011, well they got it as Nintendo picks on the Wii so pretty much like re-releases of older game names at $20 each with boring box art, you know, that happened.
They redesigned the Wii and lowered the price and in doing so got rid of GameCube support. From there, uh, yeah, 2011 was pretty much defined by Skyward Sword, the Nintendo 3DS, uh, the Wii U was revealed and, like I said, the 3DS was struggling big time, like it felt like Nintendo wasn't prepared. to release anything, it was released in March. 2011 here in North America with a very lackluster launch lineup and then pretty much nothing for a few months, we got like Time 3D's ocarine in June but then once again nothing for a few months and then Star Fox 64 3D for a couple of months later, but it's like these two were fantastic remakes, it wasn't until that holiday season when we got Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 that things were really like, oh yeah, this is a real fucking handheld that I have a reason to play and the reveal of Wii U. uh, pretty much the only thing that happened there was it was revealed to us that we didn't really get any more information until a year later in June 2012, yeah, that was a pretty disappointing year. 2011 felt like it.
It's going to be a slower year until 2012 when the Wii U releases whatever sticks with us, but I think what was really frustrating at the time was the fact that Nintendo of America was very against localizing a bunch. of Japanese games that are very popular. Some of the die-hard Wii fans would have liked to kill for Operation Rain which was a big deal this year and these are the three titles that stood out as part of that campaign, but you know that also included other things that you know you never we got. Fatal Frame games on the Wii in North America there was a game like zangeki kind of like something that no, I'm not going to try to pronounce that, just a lot of games that just wouldn't come to North America because like Nintendo of America just seemed a lot more picky about what that we're gonna post here and we've got three massive Japanese games here that we're kind of begging for here, you know, I don't really like these games, but it's still like you know.
I know the quality, I know these are amazing games and how Nintendo of America was like you, so it was a huge fan campaign in North America because these three games Nintendo of America said we had no plans to localize them and the Wii was region locked , so it's like I don't know what you expect us to do and it just killed us because it's like there's nothing, they weren't posting anything here, it was a light year in 2011, so it's like you're just going to be like no , no, it has no market appeal here, there's no way we can make a The Last Story game work here, you dumb bastards, why are you releasing these games?
So, why this has more market appeal because it is more informal, no one knows. this game came out in 2011 still had a good amount of third party games, you know, we got the annual Call of Duty that year with Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3, which is like a good version of the game, it's more interesting, like not could be played. but we were obviously getting to the point where okay, okay, dude, what are we trying to do here? This isn't working as well as it did in the original Modern Warfare or World At War or whatever now if we wanted to. like a Wii-specific first-person shooter Conduit 2, uh, this was really interesting because Conduit on the Wii was like that, that was a big thing, it was like, oh my god, this is like the Wii hardcore game and it came out and it was like it was okay, but they made a sequel, they removed the "from the title" and they liked the box art and the logo and everything looks completely different, so I don't think many people realized that the conduit 2.
The only thing I really know about conduit 2 is the fact that Abraham Lincoln shows up at the end and tells you that we have things to do and it's like a cliffhanger and, by God, that means I don't know why. I don't even have a conduit to I have all these great Wii games, but like I don't have a conduit to I really got to work on my priorities, uh, Rayman Origins, you know, it was a great game and you know, of course, it's better on 360 because, which is so beautiful it has amazing 2D art, so you know why limit yourself to wh resolution, but you still know that 2D platform multiplayer works very well on Wii, so it was great that Skylanders will be launched this year. it was a big deal and you know it was a big deal on the Wii that it started a tradition where it's pretty much like yeah for a while, like the only third party games we still had on the Wii were Skylanders along with Just Dance and everything that. one was interesting Back to the Future the game uh this was great at the time Back to the Future is my favorite movie uh you know, I love it, I love the trilogy.
I saw the musical on Broadway when I was in New York. Damn, they had the DeLorean moving on stage like it was a real fucking car and then they have it floating in the air at the end, that was pretty sick, the songs I don't remember any of them as they were, they were okay. in the moment but it's also like I don't remember any of them uh but you know everything, like the production value was great uh you know the acting was fun uh you know it's solid that's the musical this is the game this barely works in Wii is so stuttery and I like it like I don't know it feels like the Wii is about to explode with this game because like it wasn't made for the Wii but it still works fine on the Wii considering you know it's a point and click adventure game, but it was also released on PS3 along with Wii, so I would just get the PS3 version because it will work better there, but I would also get the 30th anniversary edition that was released in 2015 as well as PS4 and Xbox One and all, compared to this one, it's great that it came out on Wii Go Vacation.
You know it was a pretty quality little Miname collection. You know what happened, a centipede infestation, yeah, so you know it was in 2011. um and it was nice, it was fine, it was fine, but it felt like the Wii was already dead at this point, you know what the point is here , well, if that was dead, what is this 2012, uh, yeah, if 2011 was? Barren 2012 was like, oh man, again, like the connection already felt dead in 2011, like in 2012, like it was over, man. 3DS was actually kind of a little better start, there we had Kidr. Uprising, new Super Mario Brothers 2, Resident Evil.
Revelations released Paper Mario's sticker star was at the end of the year, regardless of what you think of those titles, it's like real things happened on the handheld, but on the Wii, okay, let's go over it. Evan's rhythm fever, uh this. It already makes 2012 a million times better than 2011 on Wii. I love Rhythm Heaven Fever. This is the ideal Rhythm Heaven game. Mainly because, like the DS game, it's great, but the stylus control is always a bit like me. I don't know, it's always been hard for me to really like grab and really take advantage, whereas here it's a lot of just pressing, pressing button A, oh sometimes button B, if it's going a little crazy, yeah, not really , No.
There's a lot to say about Rhythm Heaven Fever except that it's a phenomenal rhythm game with all these awesome minigames and it's so fun and addictive and challenging but you actually keep wanting to do it better and better and then there's poke bark to I never played poke park 2 I don't know what there is to say about poke Park 2 I think a trick of this is that it has black and white Pokémon uh I think that's what T pig is from uh yeah yeah yeah those are white and black, this game doesn't matter at all in regards to Nintendo's lineup, it's literally just to give it to younger Pokémon fans, that's all, not a worthwhile addition to wh's lineup. literally, as it happened, there you have it.
I'm going to say the same thing about this Mario Party 9 released in 2012, these are all like early 2012 releases, so yeah, I mean, the Wii definitely had a decent amount. happening in the first half of this year and yet Mario Party 9 um it's not great I think it was probably reviewed okay because critics hated Mario Party at the time saying this is the same thing over and over again , it's a lot of luck. based this game and then Mario Party 9 comes out and they're actually doing something different so they say ah good for you but it's not good, the minigames in Mario Party 9 are good but I think you can say the same about any Mario Party All the minigames are always like the basic level, like these, they're okay, it doesn't really have any motion control, minigames like they're standard minigames where it's used like the weiro on the side, I think Nintendo was like responding to similar reviews from waggle festivals inthat moment because as you know it's pretty crazy to me that the Wii only had two Mario parties and it's like the Mini Game Party game machine, yeah it's mainly because Hudson Soft was originally developed like all the main Mario parties so , you know, they were bought by Konami um and they had to like discover something, a lot of the original Mario Party developers ended up going to IND Cube um, so, yeah, they developed Mario Party 9 um.
I guess they wanted to do something different. um, it's bad. I'll give this as good for them for doing something new, doing something a little different. With Mario Party 9, sure, so I'll feel a little sorry for this one, but then you go to Mario Party 10 and I have absolutely nothing left. I think you know this didn't work out well. and you dare to do it again, it's not a great game here, um, I mean, it looks good, as you know, the production values are pretty good on this one and that reminds me that there's something about this latest era of art of the Wii box that is so peculiar to me, this all seems so premium to me.
I don't know why, it's probably because by 2012 Nintendo had seriously surpassed the Wii, the fact that we were still playing games on a system that wasn't HD and yet the box art was I like the high quality and whatever's going on here is just weird to me, you know, it feels like these have, weirdly beats the Wii, weirdly beats the system, it's on the box art of the later Wii. The software is so dynamic and very, very high quality that it's always a little strange to me, but yeah, this game, but not this game like Mario Party 10, I like it more, so this game is like a 5 out of 10 , uh, but later.
Mario Party 10 is probably like a two out of 10, honestly, that game is really abysmal, man. I'm on a bit of a streak of complaining about Nintendo, oh what you might think I'm about to do about this game, but it's more like wow. They heard that Nintendo of America released Let's be honest, the fans had something to do with it, this game was a GameStop exclusive here, you know, they just used the European localization, put it on a North American Wei disc and there we go, yeah, it's a good thing it happened because you. I know even if Xenoblade isn't my thing and you know, hey, who knows, maybe if I really sit down and you just tie me up and gag me with an apple and force me to play Xeno, I'll like it.
You know, I sat down and played Fire Emblem and Gagee for a couple of hours. I'm like that, actually, quite funny. You know, joking about these things has nothing to do with the quality of the game or saying I'm better than this. I don't like this game. I'm mainly making fun of myself for being approved because I feel like if I sit down on the right day at the right time I'm going to really enjoy this game and I really value it as a quality gaming experience and the fact that so many people like this game again, like I say, with these other ones, this one definitely beat the Wii, it feels like it's like, it's just crammed into this system, like it can't, it has no room to breathe, it's a such a big game and that's why something like Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition on Switch was so important for this game because I like it.
I desperately needed a genuine console to run it, which is crazy because they put this game on the 3DS, it's like it barely runs on the Wii and you're putting it on the 3DS, but yeah, it took a long time though. compelling and even though it was a GameStop exclusive, thanks to Nintendo for

final

ly releasing this game a year or two after it was released, like this game is a couple years old at this point in 2012, so yeah, but hey, it was released a great job. Well it looks like Nintendo is really on the right track with their Wii releases this year, that was a joke back in June, we got a new Pikmin 2 or Pikmin 2 Nintendo Select game controller, so the thing with this is you know that Nintendo had the new game controller games. circa 2009, much like the old GameCube games, re-released on Wii, not really remastered, not much was done other than giving them Wii remotes that gave them widescreen support, maybe a couple of extra things like Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, it was really like I got into a lot of things about that game, they changed, they changed the order of the levels, they changed the UI, all these things, but at the end of the day, they were all still like GameCube games, like if they were put on the Wii. and they were chosen because, hey, these games would work well with Wii remotes and you know they did with Mario's Power Tennis Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Metroid Prime 1 and 2, although the ones released in North America through Metroid Prime Trilogy uh and Pikman , but in Japan. they had things like chibi Robo, new game controller and Pikman 2 which was also released in Europe, so Europe and Japan got a new game controller.
Pikmin 2, we never made it in the US until June 2012, they decided to finally release a game that was already released here. GameCube game Pikmin 2 for 2012 I think the new game controller was like a dead brand for Nintendo, so you know, they just put this as part of the Nintendo Select brand. I guess I don't know. I guess I kind of wanted to post this to coordinate with the fact that Pikmin 3 was revealed for Wii U at E3 2012, so hey, here's Pikmin 2, this was the penultimate Wii game that Nintendo released because the last one was Kirby's Dream Collection, uh, pretty much this. is just a collection of six classic Kirby games, most of which you can get on the Wii Virtual Console, so you know you can already get Kirby's Adventure Superstar Dreamland 3 Kirby 64, but you know it was great, we have the games of GameBoy.
They are not available on the Wii Shop Channel. These you know we already have, but you know it was great to get them anyway, but this collection really tops it when it comes to presentation. You have this whole history section where you can review. the story of Kirby and the world itself, you have Kirby episodes right behind you and then you also have some challenge stages based on Kirby's return to Dreamland and they're brand new, they're only in this collection, so it's nice. Great, it also came with an art book and a soundtrack CD. This was the last major Nintendo game they released on the Wii. um, you know, part of me is like it would have been cool to have it on the Wii.
U release uh, I don't know how much they would really want to do like a compilation of Game Boy and NES and S NES games and an N64 game on Wii U at launch, but it's like that released in September 2012 like you. I know this would sell better on Wii U at launch, no one cared about the Wii and a Kirby compilation on Wii in September 2012 and those were all the games Nintendo published on Wii that year, they also made these two games on a Wii. Sports combo disc with Sports Resort, this was included with certain Wiis, do you mind?
Third party support was practically non-existent. I think the biggest one here was the fact that Hey The Last Story was finally released on the Wii. Interestingly, you know it's Polished by X Seed, but it's still owned by Nintendo. You know, we can go down here and we can see that it's copyrighted from 2011 to 2012. Nintendo and Mist Walker, uh, are the developers of this game, but yeah, Nintendo still owns the copyright to this game. it's still a Nintendo game, but it was just published by existed. Epic Mickey 2 uh this was a cross platform release compared to the original game on the Wii you know it was also released on the 360 PS3 Wii U um but yeah it was still like a game designed for the Wii first and foremost so that's how it was, i guess. a pretty substantial game not a great game Epic Mickey 2 wasn't very good at Le this is better than the Wii U version the Wii U version ising dog that game has the worst frame rate I've ever seen in a game literally se It's supposed to work on a Wii as if it were designed primarily for the Wii.
This is probably the version that comes here. I don't know about the 360 or PS3 versions, huh, but at that moment like this it becomes like the. the 2D platformer on the 3DS, that one is way better than Epic Mickey 2 uh yeah the Wii Mini came out in Canada this year yeah this year sucked so looking back it seems like these years were a lot worse than GameCube and N64. Honestly, actually probably not, I mean nothing really happened, but like I said, it's about the feeling of the fact that it felt like we were at least looking for something special that, even at that moment.
I think you know I was still a little skeptical on the Wii U like excited, but I also hope that they show something that I care about, like in 2011 and 2012 they never showed anything that I cared about on the Wii U. I was always praying. that they would eventually show something that I would care about, that was my enthusiasm for Wii U. I was just assuming that something that I would care about would happen at some point, it probably happened more in 2013, but you know, 2012 was It was a pretty barren year for the Wii, it pretty much ended in the spring and then in June we got Pikmin 2 and then in September we got a Kirby collection, so just old games, so, and even then, like one of the last big games we got. was Xeno Blade Chronicles and at that time it was an old game that was already released in other territories years ago, so at that time the last Wii game released was like Mario Party 9, this is something you don't think about until you bring in therapy, this was a tremendously boring time for Nintendo, it was exciting because of the prospect of the future, but knowing what that future was, my god, this felt like the most purgatory level of being a Nintendo fan until 2016, when We were feverishly waiting to find out what the Nintendo NX was going to be and we were waiting all year and had nothing but filler titles to play until we finally found out it was the Nintendo Switch in October 2016, but even then that was exciting , things were happening in 2012 and we were looking forward to the Wii U, this was miserable
