s. That's right, today here at Channel Frederator we'll be taking a look at the history of all things Berk, as well as the fire-breathing, pet-turned pests that inhabit it. We'll cover the three feature films, the long-running television series, and even the short films that went straight to DVD. However, we will not include the School of Dragons video game or any other video game set in the How to Train Your Dragon universe.

Hiccup hasn't canonically met Shrek while he was go-karting. Which I know is tragic. But it may still be true in our hearts. Also, since the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless is the catalyst for the entire series, we'll use it as our reference point. Everything before their first meeting is B.F., before friendship, and after it is A.F., after friendship. Now, with all that in mind, let's dive into this with the same enthusiasm with which Hiccup drops bombs from Toothless at the beginning of the second movie.

The founding of Berk, 300 B.C. A group of settlers arrive on the island of Berk, a small, cold island just twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. By the way, both are real places. They are my current position in life and the bus stop outside my house in the middle of winter, respectively. The island is located on the Meridian of Misery in the Barbarian Archipelago, a series of islands between the Greenland and Norwegian seas. During the settlers' travels across the seas, they create various myths and legends about

One of the most notable legends is that of the Hidden World, a forbidden land at the end of the world where it is said that all dragons once came from. This legend is passed down through the centuries by the newly formed Hairy Hooligan tribe, the Vikings who settle on Berk. Hamish the First is the first boss of the Hooligans. Naturally, I want to say that he is in his name. He has been described as the most successful leader in Berk's history and amasses a great deal of treasure throughout his life. Far from Berk lies the Dragon's Nest, hidden behind a wall of perpetual fog.

A particularly cruel Red Death dragon strikes fear into all the dragons who live there. This beast forces weaker dragons to give up a lot of food if they don't want to be killed. The dragons become desperate to meet their lord's demands, so they begin raiding each and every nearby island for livestock, including Berk. This begins the long war between the dragons and the Hooligans of Berk. With all the dragons terrorizing the archipelago, dragon hunting becomes a necessary pastime. A prominent tribe of dragon hunters, known simply as Dragon Hunters, use a spyglass-like device called the Dragon Eye.
It has been passed down through the tribe for centuries and uses a dragon's flame to provide information about locations or dragons. Eventually, the Dragon Eye is abandoned on the massive Dragon Hunter ship, The Reaper, in the Ship Graveyard. No one knows why the ship and the eye were abandoned, but with all the burn marks and bones inside, and the fact that it's a place called Ship Graveyard, you don't need to be a detective to figure out what happened. Around this time, a separate sect of Dragon Slayers settles on Dramillion Island. One member, a man named Ingar Ingerman,

train

s Dramillion family dragons to replicate any type of dragon fire.
Using this new method, which he calls the Ingerman Method, he revolutionizes dragon hunting and creates a long-standing group of followers called the Loyal Order of Ingerman. On the opposite side of the coin, there is a tribe on the island of Caldera Cay known as the Defenders of the Wing. Instead of hunting dragons, the tribe worships them and even lives in harmony with them, a way of thinking far ahead of its time. The government of Hamish II, in 240 BC. F. After Hamish the First's death, his son Hamish the Second becomes the new chief of Berk. Since he is much smaller than his father, people call him Hiccup.
Hm, I wonder if that will influence anything later. When Hamish the Second inherits his father's wealth, he decides to leave most of the treasure for the next setback. But he doesn't make it easy for her. He creates a treasure map along with a three-part key and hides his fortune behind an elaborate treasure hunt. It is unknown exactly how Hamish the Second dies, but it is said that he only left the Isle of Berk once in his entire life and ends up crashing his ship into the Ship Graveyard. Again, you don't need to be a detective. Although Hamish the Second masterminds the entire treasure hunt, he receives help from Bork the Bold, the author of the first dragon manual and great-great-grandfather of Gobber the Belch.
Initially known as Bork the Very, Very Unlucky, he tries numerous professions throughout his life, but the dragons always sabotage him in some way. He draws on his extensive experience with dragons when writing the Book of Dragons. He even develops the Dragon Class system, placing each dragon species into one of seven classes: Stoker, Boulder, Tracker, Sharp, Tidal, Mystery, and Strike. As if that weren't enough, Bork also discovers the island of Deep Dark, the ancestral home of the Gronckles, a species of Boulder-class dragons. To celebrate his incredible contributions to Viking society, Berk holds an annual week-long festival called Bork Week.
The rise of Stoick the Vast, 45 B.C. After two centuries of dragons and Vikings fighting to the death for Berk, a Viking chieftain and chieftain give birth to a brash and brash Viking known as Stoick. During his childhood, Stoick becomes close friends with Bork the Bold's descendant, Gobber the Belch. The two are always searching the island for the hidden treasure, but ultimately fail because there are the setbacks that Hamish Segundo left it for. Stoick would also hear stories from his grandfather about a tribe known as the Berserkers. They chain Strike-class dragons called Skrills and use their lightning bolts to attack their enemies.
Stoick becomes very familiar with the Berserkers later in life. Gobber has a particularly interesting childhood. One summer, while on vacation with his parents, he stops in a frozen cave to go to the bathroom. When he looks at the walls, he can't believe what he sees: frozen Vikings everywhere! He sees a treasure chest in one of his hands and takes it for himself. Then suddenly, a massive armored dragon known as a Boneknapper chases him out of the cave, chilling Gobber to the bone. After surviving that fun little vacation, Gobber lives among the people of Chilblain for a brief period, breaking the heart of the chief's daughter and playing the panpipe in a band.
He dearly loves his pet yak, named Pepe, until his family cooks and eats it during their Snoggletog feast. I've never lost a beloved yak, but this might explain why Gobber is so eccentric in the future. Love, loss and birth, 20 B.F. In addition to Gobber, Stoick is also very good friends with a man named Alvin. One night, during a particularly nasty dragon raid, Stoick and Alvin encounter a Monstrous Nightmare, the deadliest species of Stoker-class dragon. The two get into a heated argument over how they should handle fighting the beast and evacuating the citizens. Alvin defies Stoick's direct orders and acts on his behalf, causing several casualties among the townspeople.
Presumably, this is when Gobber loses his left hand and right leg. From that moment on, things are never the same between Stoick and Alvin. Once he is boss, Stoick banishes Alvin from Berk, forcing him to live out the rest of his days on Outcast Island. This action almost caused Stoick to be named Stoick the Vengeful, but thanks to his bulk, he earns the nickname Stoick the Vast. With his limbs missing, Gobber can no longer participate in the war against the dragons, so he becomes the village blacksmith and provides the other Vikings with weapons to aid in their endless battles.
One day, out of nowhere, Oswald the Antagonist and the Berserker tribe invaded Berk to take it as their own. During this battle, Stoick fights alongside a woman named Valka. After winning the battle, the two share a dance and sing "For the Dancing and the Dreaming", a song that would represent their new love for years to come. Over time, the Hooligans and Berserkers come to an understanding and even become allies in the years to come. Oswald the Antagonist changes his mind and becomes known as Oswald the Agreeable. Stoick even gives a horn to Oswald's newborn daughter! Stoick and Valka finally have a son, but he is born prematurely.
So they call him Hiccup. During a dragon attack, a Stormcutter dragon breaks into his house. Stoick rushes to protect his son, but he cannot save Valka and believes the dragon is eating her. Unbeknownst to him, the dragon takes her to a mountain lair, bonding with her and showing her the wonders of the dragon world. Stoick raises Hiccup alone, becoming very overprotective of him and causing tension in their relationship due to high expectations of him. Stoick sets out to find Valka, against the wishes of the Berk Council, but never succeeds. Still, he never really lets go of her.
Later, Stoick attends a meeting with the other Viking chieftains of the barbarian archipelago to discuss how to proceed in his war against the dragons. Suddenly, a man in dragon armor enters the room and offers a solution to end the war. His name is Drago Bludvist, and if all the chiefs bow and swear allegiance to him, he promises to usher in peace and end the war. Everyone takes it as a joke and laughs at him. Moments later, Drago returns with two armored dragons, breaks through the ceiling and burns the entire hall, killing all the bosses except Stoick.
In his last moments of consciousness, Stoick saw Drago and another man, Krogan, escape on the back of one of the dragons. The Fallen Night Fury, 1 B.F. Despite continued dragon raids, things are relatively quiet on Berk. Stoick has become the perfect leader, and his son Hiccup is seen more as a Hiccup. Kind of a mistake, you know, since he's smaller and incompetent. Despite wanting to help the war effort, Hiccup is tasked with being Gobber's apprentice. One night, during a particularly heated dragon raid, Hiccup manages to shoot an elusive Night Fury dragon from the sky. He pities that also allows the dragons to take most of the village's livestock.
This causes further s

That day, Hiccup goes to look for the Night Fury that he shot out of the sky, and finds it still very much alive, but tangled in the ropes of the bullet-like projectile that Hiccup shot at him. To prove that he is a worthy Viking, Hiccup goes on a killing spree, but sees the fear in the dragon's eyes. He hesitates and instead releases the beast. The dragon pins him down and roars, but he decides to let him go.
Hiccup freed him after all. You know, the thing with the thorn and the lion's paw and all that. When Hiccup arrives home, Stoick tells him that he will begin Dragon Training with the other teens, in order to improve his dragon-slaying skills and become a true Viking. Ugh, it's like

dad signed you up for Little League. Plus, he's perfect to listen to immediately after not killing a dragon, because he was looking at you with big, stupid puppy dog eyes and now you're wondering if this war is worth it. Anyway, Stoick lets his son fail in training and goes with a group of Vikings in search of the dragon's nest.
But of course, Hiccup just isn't a killer, especially after his encounter with an injured Night Fury. The other teenagers, Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, and the twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut make fun of him, but it's okay, Hiccup doesn't need human friends. How to Train Your Dragon, 1 A.F. Hiccup finds the fallen Night Fury living in a remote cave and realizes that he has not left because he is grounded. His tail was damaged during the fall and he can no longer fly. He manages to get close to the dragon by luring it with a fish, and even befriends it!
When the dragon awkwardly tries to imitate a human smile, Hiccup decides to name him Toothless, even though he has teeth. They are huge, they just retract. Anyway, the two become fast friends and begin a double life of forbidden friendship. Hiccup builds Toothless a prosthetic fin for his tail, allowing him to fly. Well, only when Hiccup is there to ride it. Through this friendship, Hiccup also learns about various ways to train and tame dragons, which makes all the other teenagers in Dragon Training very jealous. One day, Astrid follows Hiccup to see exactly what she has been up to.
At first, she is horrified by her friendship with such a fearsome beast, but after Hiccup takes her for awalk around and copy "A Whole New World," he realizes he's

ly shocked to hear how his son has become the talk of the town with his dragon skills. He brings the entire village to watch Hiccup's final exam, where he must fight and kill a monstrous nightmare.
However, he shows off his dragon training skills, which angers Stoick. Because you know, being friends with dragons is not the same as killing dragons. In his anger, Stoick scares Monterous Nightmare into an attack. Toothless hears Hiccup's distress from far away and runs to the scene, but the Vikings capture him on sight. Stoick, furious with Hiccup, learns of the nest's existence and uses Toothless to find it and exterminate the dragons once and for all. Fortunately, Hiccup, Astrid, and all their new friends join the remaining dragons to follow Stoick, save Toothless, and defeat the Red Death. The Red Death emerges and attacks the Vikings, and the ship Toothless is chained to is hit and begins to sink.
Fortunately, Hiccup jumps in and rescues his friend. Stoick apologizes to his son, and then the duo goes to kick some Red Death (bleep). They defeat the beast, freeing the dragons, but in the middle of the fight, Hiccup loses his left leg. It's an occupational hazard of being a Viking. But hey, Gobber just makes him a prosthetic leg. He's kind of in his wheelhouse. And now, he and his best friend are compatible. With that, Berk enters a new era of peace, where Vikings and dragons can live together in harmony. Hiccup and Astrid also start dating. That's a pretty important detail.

Anyway, back to Berk. Although we are still an era of peace and happiness for people, both for dragons and for houseplants. Then what could go wrong? Defenders of Berk, 1.5 A.F. During the new era of peace, the teens help Gobber settle an old score with Boneknapper, and even befriend him. Hiccup continues to update the Book of Dragons with new information on how to tame and befriend them, and Berk celebrates his first Snoggletog with his new dragon friends. However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Keeping all the dragons under control is not easy, and some villagers, like the angry old Viking Mildew, still harbor a deep hatred for dragons.
During this period, Alvin, now known as the Betrayer, returns searching for the Conquering Dragon, which is Hiccup. After a fierce battle, Alvin swears that he will gain Hiccup's knowledge and one day ride dragons too. He eventually kidnaps the parents of a young girl named Heather, forcing her to bring him Hiccup's knowledge of dragon training in exchange for her lives. Heather hides on a shipwreck and allows herself to be discovered by the dragon riders, posing as the survivor of a pirate attack. Hiccup is a good guy, so she believes him and allows him to stay with his family.
Astrid becomes suspicious of Heather and soon discovers her plans to betray them, but before she can warn Hiccup, Heather steals the Book of Dragons and Astrid's dragon, Stormfly. The dragon riders manage to capture Heather, but not before the Book falls into the hands of Alvin's Outcasts. However, when the good guys launch an attack on Alvin's forces, she escapes from prison to join the Hooligans. They all defeat Alvin and free Heather's parents. During Bork Week that year, Hiccup discovers where the Night Furies come from and goes with Toothless to investigate. However, it turns out that they were false rumors started by Mildew, who now aligns herself with Alvin.
Once again, Alvin tries to get the knowledge of dragon training out of Hiccup, but Hiccup and Toothless escape. Still, they know that Alvin is chasing them, so they are constantly on edge. As if that weren't enough, Oswald's deranged son, Dagur the Deranged, now leads the Berserker Tribe. Dagur sees Hiccup's possession of a dragon as a violation of the peace treaty between the two tribes, so he reignites the war with the Hooligans. Soon, Alvin and the Berserkers reach an agreement to attack Berk together, but Dagur betrays Alvin to take control of his forces, enslaving a Frozen Skrill and using it to assassinate him.
Surprisingly, Alvin survives and joins Hiccup to wipe out the Berserkers and usher in a new era of peace. Well, for a while. Race to the Edge, 4 A.F. Three years after the defeat of the Berserkers, Dagur escapes from his cell on Outcast Island. Hiccup finds out from a merchant named Johann, since Dagur stole his ship. He believes Dagur is heading to the Ship Graveyard in search of the Dragon Eye, but Hiccup and Toothless arrive first and claim it for themselves. Over the course of the next few months, they attempt to decipher the Dragon's Eye and locate Dagur.
It turns out that Heather is Dagur's sister and Stoick gave him her horn when she was a newborn. Do you remember that from before? On top of all this, a new threat emerges in the form of the Dragon Slayers, led by Ryker and Viggo Grimborn. Naturally, Dagur joins them, because of course he does. Heather does too, surprising everyone by joining forces with her brother. However, she secretly works as a double agent, spying on the Hunters and reporting to the Riders. After Dagur discovers that she is a spy, he locks her up, but she manages to convince him to let her go, since they are her brothers.
Ryker and Viggo criticize Dagur for helping Heather escape. He spends some time isolated and eventually changes his mind and allies himself with the Hooligans. After a battle with the Hunters, the Riders help Dagur and Heather restore Berserker Island to its former glory and search for her father, Oswald. Around this time, the Hunters betray Viggo and elect Ryker as their new leader. Viggo briefly allies himself with the Riders and defends Berserker Island in a battle that ends with Ryker's death. Shortly after, however, he takes Astrid hostage so he can seize the Dragon's Eye. Somehow, she survives falling into a volcano with the Eye.
From there, he teams up with Krogan, the leader of the Dragon Flyers and the man who escaped with Drago years before. Given this series' history of villains, it was only a matter of time before Krogan betrayed Viggo. After Viggo helps Krogan recover the Dragon's Eye from the volcano, Krogan rewards him by collapsing a cave on top of him. Somehow surviving that, Viggo teams up with Hiccup one last time to retrieve the Dragon Eye from Krogan. In the end, Viggo redeems himself, but at the cost of his own life. However, Krogan and his forces use the Dragon Eye lens to find the King of Dragons, a massive Bewilderbeast dragon that lives beneath Berserker Island.
Fortunately, Hiccup and Toothless stop Krogan before he can capture the dragon or its egg. Krogan returns to Drago and begs him for a second chance, but Drago isn't kidding, so he executes Krogan. The Return of Drago, 5 A.F. By now, Hiccup has turned Berk into a society that can peacefully coexist with dragons. They race dragons all over the island, have a dragon wash, fire prevention services, and all-you-can-eat feeding stations! It is a normal and ordinary utopia. With Berk safe, Hiccup and Toothless venture out to explore unknown islands and expand their world. While on a distant island, a man named Eret attacks them.
He is a dragon hunter who sells dragons to Drago. He warns them of Drago's imminent return and his men try to catch Toothless, but Astrid appears and helps Hiccup and Toothless escape. Back on Berk, Hiccup tells his father about Drago, forcing him to fortify the island and prepare for war. Hiccup asks Eret if he can meet with Drago to make a deal and avoid war, but Stoick arrives and stops him before he can go to Drago. As he flies through the clouds, thinking about what to do, Hiccup encounters a rogue dragon rider, who turns out to be his mother, Valka.
She shows him the dragon sanctuary she's been living in all these years. When Stoick and Gobber catch up with Hiccup, Stoick is surprised and relieved to see that his wife is still alive. However, the celebration is interrupted when Drago attacks the Sanctuary in order to capture the King of Dragons, the Wild Beast that resides within. Drago himself has his own Bewilderbeast, which he controls through a barbaric torture method. He forces the two dragons to fight to determine who is the true alpha of all dragons, and his dragon emerges victorious. Hiccup flies to stop him, but Drago uses his torture method to control Toothless and orders him to kill his best friend.
As Toothless tries to kill, Stoick gets in the way to save his son. Devastated, Hiccup yells at Toothless to leave, while mourning the death of his father. Stoick died by the way, it didn't go well for him. They hold a funeral for him, and Drago and his Bewilderbeast freeze over Berk. After that good moment at the end of the second act, all is lost, Hiccup reunites with Toothless, assuring him that it wasn't his fault, and the two go after Drago. In the end, Drago is defeated, Hiccup becomes the new boss of Berk, and Toothless becomes the new Alpha Dragon.
Oh, and Valka returns to live on Berk and peace returns, briefly. As he always does. The Hidden World, 6 A.F. A year later, Hiccup and his friends continue rescuing dragons from hunters and trappers. When Hiccup remembers the mythical Hidden World his father spoke of, he seeks it out to ensure a true safe haven for the dragons. A group of Warlords capture a female Night Fury, a Light Fury, and give her to a dragon slayer named Grimmel the Grisly. He is the man responsible for almost wiping out the Night Furies in the first place. To finish the job, Grimmel plans to use the Light Fury as bait to capture Toothless.
Toothless meets the Light Fury and falls in love, and Hiccup is happy for him! That night, Grimmel introduces himself to Hiccup and burns his house to the ground. That's a little rude. Hiccup realizes that Berk is no longer safe and they must search for a New Berk. Because, like Asgard, Berk is a town, not a place. Settling on a new temporary island, Hiccup builds a new tail for Toothless, finally allowing him to fly alone. Toothless flies to find the Light Fury on his behalf, while Grimmel and his forces follow closely behind. In their search for Toothless and the Light Fury, Hiccup and Astrid discover the Hidden World and discover that Toothless is happy there.
Toothless takes them back to New Berk, and Hiccup realizes that humans have no business being in the Hidden World. He will have to say goodbye to his best friend and it won't be easy. Suddenly Grimmel attacks and captures the two dragons. Hiccup and the gang chase after Grimmel, defeat him, and save the dragons. However, Hiccup knows that the dragons will never truly be safe as long as there are humans who can harm them. The Hooligans release their dragons and Toothless says goodbye to his dear friend Hiccup as the dragons return to the Hidden World. Meeting, 15 A.F.
Which is like a nine-year jump. Hiccup and Astrid marry and have two children named Zephyr and Nuffink. The family sets sail for the entrance to the Hidden World to visit the dragons. When they get there, Toothless is guarding the entrance with Light Fury and his offspring. At first, he doesn't recognize Hiccup and attacks. But after remembering his scent, he immediately gives his old friend a big lick. I don't like that line. Can I say something else? No, I'm not going to say a thick lick! Whatever it is, Hiccup promises that until humans can live in peace with the dragons, they must remain in the Hidden World while the Hooligans of Berk keep their secret.
And there it is, 10 years of movies, short films, TV shows, video games, comics, a lot of things, with a beautiful friendship between a boy and his cat dragon bat at the center of it all. As always, thanks for watching this video! Be sure to subscribe toChannel Frederator for more awesome timelines and videos. I have been Jacob and I remember: Frederator loves you. (metal drilling)
