Feb 27, 2020
It's no mystery when it comes to the strange and unusual, Gravity Falls has you covered. The Pines family first stole our hearts in 2012 and managed to keep us on the edge of our seats throughout their mystery-filled journey. In fact, we here at Channel Frederator love the series so much that we've decided to revisit it from the beginning. And no, we're not talking about when Dipper and Mabel showed up, we're talking about the beginning. I'm Jacob and join me as we go through the series in chronological order: the good, the bad, and especially the mysterious. 30 million BC C.: A huge flying saucer lands on our planet, forming the valley of Gravity Falls and turning it into a center of oddities throughout history. 1000 AD: The first humans native to Gravity Falls flee the land for unknown reasons, leaving behind a treasure trove of ancient artifacts.

Many of the artifacts depict the image of a certain one-eyed triangular man. Hey, whatever. It's probably not important. 1837: Sir Lord Quentin Trembley, the third Esquire, is elected the eighth and a half president of the United States after winning the election in a literal landslide. He quickly becomes known as the dumbest president in the country, which is why you've never heard of him. 1842: Quentin Trembley is ousted from office and accidentally discovers the unexplored land of Gravity Falls after riding his horse backwards off a cliff. Quentin founds the settlement and considers himself mayor. 1862: Quentin Trembley mysteriously disappears. The government begins the Northwest cover-up and nominates the village's local idiot, Nathaniel Northwest, to become the town's new mayor in his place.

Late 1940s/early 1950s: Twins Stanley and Stanford Pines are born in Glass Shard Beach, New Jersey, to Filbrick and Caryn Pines. They grew up in the family pawn shop within the city's lead paint district. Early 1960s: The two are an unstoppable couple who dream of becoming full-time adventurers. Stanley develops a question-first, question-second personality, which pairs perfectly with Ford's mental brilliance. While exploring their hometown, Glass Shard Beach, they find remains of an ancient ship in a nearby cave. They begin rebuilding it, calling it 'Stan O' War' and planning to use it to sail together around the world as treasure hunters. 1970s: During their senior year of high school, Stan and Ford are called to the principal's office where they discover that Ford's science project has attracted the interest of West Coast Tech, a prestigious university.

Naturally, Ford is excited about the opportunity, which upsets Stan, since he is still clinging to his childhood dream of becoming treasure hunters. Frustrated by the thought of losing his brother, Stan accidentally damages Ford's science project, a perpetual motion machine, causing the project to malfunction and Ford losing the opportunity of a lifetime. The two eventually fall out and Stan is kicked out of the family for losing potential millions on Ford's inventions. Stan leaves home and starts his own business. Meanwhile, Ford enrolls in Backupsmore University to make up for the missed opportunity. 1972 - 1982: Stan's story. Stan founded Stan Co.

Enterprises and tries to sell poorly made appliances. These faulty appliances give Stan a bad reputation, as he is soon considered a scammer and expelled from New Jersey. Unfortunately, this becomes a constant trend for Stan as a traveling salesman. He was eventually banned from 32 of the 50 states and he has also been to prison in 3 different countries. 1972 - 1982: the history of Ford. Meanwhile, Ford works twice as hard as any other Backupsmore University student. Accepted into the doctoral program three years ahead of schedule, he writes a nationally ranked thesis and receives a whopping $100,000 grant to apply to his field of study.
He decides to study the supernatural and, shortly after, moves to Gravity Falls, the country's weirdness capital. Immediately, Ford is fascinated by his findings. He begins to keep track of his supernatural discoveries in a special diary. Very soon, he realizes that he needs to expand his studies and create a safe space to contain his most dangerous experiments, which include things like the shapeshifter. He then builds an additional bunker hidden underground beneath the Gravity Falls forest with a secret entrance inside an artificial tree. After a while, Ford hits a roadblock in his study. That is, until he stumbles upon a cave full of ancient writings.
There is a ritual circle with various symbols and signs of the zodiac, apparently from some kind of prophecy. Ford translates the writing and discovers that they are incantations, carved next to a description of a triangular man with one eye and a top hat. However, he also has a written warning, praying that these incantations never be said aloud. Ford ignores the warnings and summons the mysterious being, who appears in his dream that night and introduces himself as Bill Cipher. Bill explains that he is a muse and chooses a brilliant mind to inspire each century. The two become friends and, in exchange for knowing him on the other side, Bill asks to use Ford's body whenever he wants, and Ford agrees.
Bill gives Ford the plans to build a portal to another dimension. To build it, Ford enlists the help of his old college friend, Fiddleford McGucket, who is currently specializing in custom computers. Fiddleford moves to Gravity Falls and helps Ford build the portal. Once the portal is

complete

d, Fiddleford is accidentally sucked inside. Ford saves him just in time, but it's obvious that Fiddleford is scared by what he's seen on the other side. He tells Ford to be careful of the "one-eyed beast" and warns him that his device will certainly bring about the end of times. Fiddleford leaves and invents the mind-wiping gun to help himself cope.
He then founds a secret society called Blind Eye, where he and a group of townspeople are determined to help others forget about his disturbing supernatural findings. However, his words "the beast with one eye" make Ford suspicious and he decides to confront Bill. When Bill admits that his true plan is to merge both dimensions, Ford immediately closes the portal and begins to take precautions against Bill. He builds the Mentum Project to encrypt his thoughts. He also begins to alter the previous diary entries from him with invisible ink, but that doesn't seem enough, so he abandons his research and hides the diary from him.
He then converts a second underground bunker into a fallout shelter, in case the worst happens, and reaches out to the only person he knows he can trust: his twin brother, Stan. Late 1982: Stan arrives in Gravity Falls to see his brother for the first time in almost a decade. A crazed Ford explains that he needs Stan to take Diary One as far away from Gravity Falls as possible and keep it hidden. Since this is the only reason Ford wanted to see his brother separated from him, Stan becomes enraged and the two fight. Stan pushes Ford into the portal and accidentally activates it.
He then watches as Ford disappears out the front door, but just before Ford disappears, he throws the diary at Stan. Stan tries everything he can to reactivate the gateway, but nothing works. However, when he goes to town, people think he's actually Ford, you know, because they're twins. Stan follows him and takes the identity of his brother, as well as the cabin in which he lived. The townspeople seemed very curious about the cabin itself, so Stan turns this into his next big scam. He begins charging admission to the shack and the Mystery Shack is born. August 31, 1999: Finally, our protagonists Mabel and Dipper Pines are born in Piedmont, California.
They are the grandchildren of Shermy Pines, Stan and Ford's younger brother. And now we come to the series itself. (Hey, it's about time we got here.) June 1-2, 2012: Trapped Tourist. Mabel and Dipper Pines arrive in Gravity Falls to spend the summer with their great-uncle Stan, although the cool kids call him Grunkle Stan. He quickly puts them to work at the Mystery Shack. While putting up signs in the woods, Dipper comes across a hollow tree. Inside, he finds an electronic device with one of its two wires cut. He fiddles with some switches, causing a trapdoor to open in the floor containing a mysterious journal marked 3.
He opens the journal and sees that it is filled with data and notes about the city's strange supernatural anomalies. Meanwhile, Mabel announces that she has a date, but her boyfriend Norman is actually a group of gnomes seeking to take Mabel as their queen. Dipper rescues his sister and the twins return to the Mystery Shack. June 3, 2012: Legend of the Gobblewonker. Grunkle Stan takes the twins fishing at Gravity Falls Lake, where a crazed redneck the locals refer to as Old Man McGucket claims to have seen a lake monster. Once Soos, the Mystery Shack's handyman, arrives with his own ship, the twins decide to ditch their Grunkle's lame jokes and investigate.
They discovered that the lake monster is actually a mechanical creation of old McGucket. June 10 to 13, 2012: The hand that rocks Mabel. The twins discovered that Grunkle Stan's biggest competition in town is an adorable boy named Gideon Gleeful, also known as L'il Gideon, a local psychic adored by all the townspeople. Dipper and Mabel attend one of his shows to test his psychic abilities, and Dipper concludes that Gideon is nothing more than a con artist, just like his Grunkle. The next day, Gideon arrives at the Shack to ask Mabel if she wants to go to her dressing room and try on different makeup.
The two become friends until he reveals that he is in love with her. However, the feeling is not mutual, so they fight and Gideon vows revenge on the Pines family. Later that night, Gideon is revealed to be in possession of Journal 2. June 17, 2012: Irrational Treasure. It's Pioneer Day in Gravity Falls and the twins discover evidence that the town's founder, Nathaniel Northwest, is a hoax. They set out to uncover the truth, ultimately so they could rub it in the faces of the incredibly rich and entitled Pacifica Northwest. She is the popular bad girl in town and a descendant of the supposed founder.
As they follow a series of clues, they uncover the Northwest government's cover-up, along with the original mayor, Quentin Trembley, preserved in peanut brittle. It turns out that Trembley disappeared because he wanted to demonstrate the vital properties of peanut brittle. June 18, 2012: The Time Traveler's Pig. Grunkle Stan hosts a mystery fair where Mabel wins a pig by correctly guessing her weight. She calls him Waddles and makes him his new best friend. Shortly after, the twins encounter Blendin Blandin, a time traveler on a mission to clean up disturbances in the

timeline

. They take the time machine and go back in time, resulting in Blendin being arrested by the law enforcement squad to prevent the time paradox.
While he is detained, he vows revenge on the twins. June 20, 2012: Ursa Minor. Gideon tries to get revenge on the Pines by taking over the Mystery Shack, but Grunkle Stan tricks the little con man. Later, Gideon reveals that he not only wants the shack, but he wants something hidden on the property. July - August 2012, Dreamscapers. Gideon summons Bill Cipher to make a deal. He requests that Bill retrieve the combination to Stan's secret safe so he can steal the deed from the shack. Dipper, Mabel and Soos witness the demon enter Stan's mind. To save Stan, they use Journal 3 to find the charms needed to follow Bill into Stan's mind.
They confront Bill and return to reality with their Grunkle safe, but Gideon manages to break into the safe using dynamite. He steals the lease and kicks out the Pines family. Sometime in the summer of 2012: Gideon Rises. The Pines family lives with Soos and her grandmother Abuelita, which is unglamorous. It's not a mysterious shack. Gideon reveals that his real plan is to find the first Journal on the property. Dipper and Mabel seek help from the gnomes from the first episode, but Gideon turns the gnomes against the twins. With the help of the gnomes, Gideon recovers Dipper's Journal 3.
Dipper then gives up and the twins board a bus back to California. That's when Gideon realizes that the diary he recovered from Dipper is actually Diary 3, not 1. He thought there were only two. He chases the bus they were on back to Gravity Falls with his Gideon Bob, built by McGucket of course, and confronts the twins. The townspeople arrive ready to arrest the twins for harming Gideon, but before they do, Stan reveals that the free Gideon pins they all received were actually cameras he used to spy on them. Gideon is arrested and the Pines family gets their shack back.
Dipper tells Stan about the diaries and Stan, up to this point, playing dumb about all of the weirdness ofGravity Falls for the kids, he takes Dipper's third, claiming he wants to borrow it as inspiration for the shack. That night, Stan sneaks into a secret room behind the vending machine, which leads him to Ford's old laboratory. Stan is now in possession of all three magazines. Cut to black, he finishes the first season. Sometime in the summer of 2012: Scary-oke. Stan continues to work hard on the portal, but it attracts the attention of some government agents who start snooping around.
The Pines family prepares for their grand reopening party, but then Dipper accidentally resurrects the dead. Happens. The agents run out and the zombies attack the shack. After Stan tells Dipper that he has always known about the strangeness of Gravity Falls, he, Mabel and Dipper destroy the zombies after discovering that their weakness is very loud karaoke music. Sometime in the summer of 2012: Into the Bunker. Dipper, Mabel, Soos, and Wendy follow the diary to a secret bunker hidden in the woods just below the hollow tree where Dipper originally found the diary. Inside, they fight a shapeshifter who has escaped from his cage.
Upon leaving, Soos finds that a briefcase she took from the lab is actually an old laptop belonging to someone identified as F. Sometime in the summer of 2012: Blind Eye Society. Dipper discovers that the laptop is marked McGucket Labs, so they rush to crazy Old Man McGucket's junkyard to confront him. Unfortunately, McGucket claims that he has had amnesia since 1982. They read about the Blind Eye Society in the magazine and conclude that McGucket must have had his mind wiped after witnessing something. Based on some clues and what McGucket can remember, they are led to the Society's secret headquarters, where they discover a persistent initiative to erase the memories of the townspeople.
The gang recovers the mind-wiping gun and uses it to erase the cult's memory. They also find McGucket's old memory tube and discover that McGucket is the founder of the Blind Eye society and that the laptop was his. Not only that, he was in Gravity Falls helping the magazines' author in a groundbreaking experiment that disturbed him so deeply that he began erasing his own memory of it to the point of deterioration. Sometime in the summer of 2012: It's not what it seems. Stan continues to secretly work on the portal, but government agents arrive again to arrest him for stealing drums of toxic chemicals.
Dipper and Mabel try to clear his name with security footage only to discover that he is, in fact, guilty. They also discover the laboratory, along with the portal and the three magazines. Dipper scans the journals with a black light to reveal a secret message about the portal: that it could destroy the entire universe. Stan escapes custody and runs back to the shack, only to be confronted by the twins in the lab. Dipper activates manual override and threatens to close the portal. As the room loses

gravity

, everyone is lifted into the air, but Mabel manages to grab the override button.
Stan begs Mabel not to push him, but Dipper tells her to push it, since Stan has been lying to them this whole time about his true intentions. As the countdown nears its end, Mabel decides to trust her Grunkle and as time runs out, the portal activates and a mysterious figure appears. Sometime in the summer of 2012: A Tale of Two Stans. The twins learn of their second Grunkle, Ford, the wanted magazine author. Ford and Stan tell the twins about their fight, remembering the events that led up to now and why Stan was pretending to be Ford all this time.
Government agents arrive again to arrest Stan again, but Dipper uses McGucket's mind-wipe gun to erase Stan's memories. Sometime in the summer of 2012: The Last Mabelcorn. Bill appears to Ford in a dream and tells him that he knows about the interdimensional rift that was created when the portal was reactivated. Ford then dismantles the portal, contains the crack, and warns his family to protect the shack. If Bill gets his hands on the portal or rift, he can open the door to his dimension and unleash chaos. At this point, the twins have had more than a few run-ins with Bill Cipher, so they know this is not a threat they should take lightly.
Fortunately, Ford knows a way to protect Bill's shack, but it requires unicorn hair. Then Mabel volunteers to get it back along with her friends Wendy, Candy and Grenda. Meanwhile, Ford formulates a backup plan to protect his minds using Project Mentum. Dipper uses the device to encrypt his thoughts while Ford naps, but his curiosity leads him to place the helmet on Ford's head. Dipper discovers memories of the agreement between Ford and Bill, leading him to believe that they are still working together. He threatens to wipe Ford's mind thinking that Bill is actually in possession of his body, but Ford assures Dipper that he is fine and tells him what happened between him and Bill all those years ago.
Mabel and the girls finally return with the magical hair after a nasty altercation with the unicorns, and use it to mount the shield. Sometime in the summer of 2012: Dipper and Mabel vs. Future Mabel begins planning her and Dippers' big 13th birthday party, while Dipper ventures out with Ford to fix the interdimensional rift. They travel to the Omega crash site, where the ancient alien ship crashed, to find an alien adhesive to repair the crack. In pursuit of him, Ford offers Dipper an apprenticeship and asks him to stay in Gravity Falls after the summer ends. Dipper enthusiastically accepts, but unbeknownst to him, Mabel overheard the agreement over her shared walkie-talkies.
Dipper excitedly returns home to tell Mabel about the offer, but she tells him how upset she would be to lose him when she has to go back to school without him. After an emotionally charged exchange, he grabs his backpack and runs into the woods angrily. Suddenly, Blendin Blandin appears and offers to extend his summer forever so he never has to leave. The only thing he wants in return is interdimensional rupture. Which turns out she's in the backpack he grabbed. Turns out she grabbed Dipper's bag by mistake. He makes the deal with Blendin and, to his dismay, realizes that Bill was possessed by him the entire time.
Bill then destroys the rift and releases his world onto ours. Sometime in the summer of 2012: Weirdmageddon, Parts 1 - 3. Bill's Nightmare Realm has taken over Gravity Falls. Dipper and Ford find themselves in a race against time to defeat Bill before his weirdness spreads throughout the world. Bill manages to capture Ford and burn the three journals, but Dipper escapes before he can cause more damage. Elsewhere, Gideon, who has been in a maximum security prison since season 1, breaks free during the madness and races to save Bill. Dipper travels to the mall where he meets up with Wendy and the two decide to go after Mabel.
However, Gideon and his gang of discount car warriors intervene. Gideon arrests them and the two groups fight wheel to wheel in a Mad Max style race. Gideon catches our heroes but frees them when Dipper tells him all the horrible things he's done and why Mabel will never love him back. Now free from Gideon's clutches, Soos, Dipper and Wendy travel to Mabel's prison to help her escape, but once inside they realize that it is less of a prison and more of a cute Fantasy Land, called Mabeland. The earth is designed to lull its prisoners into a false sense of security by giving them exactly what they want most.
Dipper is left alone to rescue Mabel, but once he finds her, she tells him that she doesn't want to leave. Mabel sets up a trial for Dipper to make her case, and Dipper convinces her that while reality may be disappointing, no matter what happens, they have each other. Dipper assures Mabel that she will never abandon her and they eventually escape Mabeland together. After meeting up with Wendy and Soos, they return to the Mystery Shack. The barrier Ford placed on the shack was protected during the frenzy, making it a safe haven for locals and mystical creatures alike.
Dipper convinces Stan and the refugees that they must rescue Ford in order to defeat Bill. Meanwhile, Bill realizes that he can't expand his weirdness barrier beyond Gravity Falls, so he unfreezes Ford in search of answers. Ford claims that he is due to the natural strange magnetism in Gravity Falls caused by the alien ship. There is a way to break through, but of course he will never tell her. Meanwhile, McGucket has turned the shack into some sort of giant BattleMech and they head towards Bill's Fearamid to confront it. Once inside, the refugees confront Bill's henchmen. He freezes Ford once again and attacks the shack, but is unable to get through the unicorn's barrier.
The newly nicknamed Shack-A-Tron rips out Bill's eye, causing it to take a while to regenerate. Mabel grabs Ford's statue and Gideon tells her how to thaw all the frozen people in town. All the townspeople return to normal, including Ford. Ford then takes a can of blue spray paint and begins painting the zodiac on the ground, including the ten symbols that represent ten of the characters that are there today. It's all part of the prophecy that he discovered years ago and that was carved on the wall of the ancient natives. Everyone stands on their respective symbols and holds hands to create a ring of energy around the zodiac.
However, Stan refuses to come full circle, until Ford thanks him for bringing him back to this realm. Ford finally thanks him, but considering the circumstances, he's a bit forced. Unfortunately, the tension between the brothers rises too high and a fight breaks out between the two. As a result, the barrier breaks and Bill returns. Bill burns the Zodiac, captures Stan and Ford, and chases the twins through Fearamid. Inside his cage, Stan and Ford mourn their fights. Ford decides to let Bill into his mind to learn how to escape Gravity Falls so the twins can save themselves. Bill happily enters his mindscape only to discover that, oh, it's not Ford's mind, it's Stan's.
He disguised himself so Ford would erase the memory of him with Bill inside. Ford destroys Bill and the portal to the Nightmare Realm closes. August 31, 2012: Gravity Falls returns to normal. Or, as normal as can be, including Stan, who took a little time to regain his memory after Ford erased it. The entire town gathers for Dipper and Mabel's 13th birthday. Ford and Stan reconcile and Ford asks Stan to join him on an adventure to investigate anomalies in the Arctic Ocean and finally live out his childhood dream. Stan agrees and promotes Soos to manager of the Mystery Shack, and Abuelita moves in immediately.
September 1, 2012 onwards: Sometime in the near future, Stan and Ford venture into the Arctic sea aboard the Stan o' War 2, and Soos runs the Mystery Shack. The Northwesterners lose their mansion due to a risky investment in strange bonds, and McGucket moves there. The twins say goodbye and return to Piedmont, California, ending the best summer of their lives. Mystery solved! Thanks for watching our Gravity Falls
