Jun 01, 2021
welcome back to the

wizard

store, many of you in the comments section have been saying: let's buy this one, not that jeep, and that's what we're going to do today, let's get started. Jeep is an iconic American brand, a name that everyone remembers. the lead up to world war ii and what made it start to be so popular with the civilian population was the fact that service members in world war ii were driving these willy

jeeps

and saying these things are amazing, no one had really experienced something like that. that was before World War II, apart from maybe being in the military, but seeing them in action moving around driving through mud, crossing streams and everything else, and how tough and reliable they were after the war was over, many members from the service are like how can I get one of those?

I have to have one of those

jeeps

and that was the beginning, move up the cj234 line, I mean it to this day with the jeeps you see on On the road today, I have had a lot of experience working on jeeps at a shop I used to work, where I gained a lot of experience. The owner of that shop, who was also one of my mentors, was a certified Chrysler technician with 30 years of experience. a master technician, so he knew those chrysler jeeps anyway, inside and out, very, very well, we worked a lot on the cherokees grand cherokees wranglers, those are probably the most affected, many of them today the focus does not It's both the downright utilitarian and robust craftsmanship the approach It's a luxury nowadays leather seats air suspension powerful engines, although they are still suitable for off-roading today, they are still very good in the mud and dirt, it's almost up to the point where they are so nice you won't want to wear them. in the mud and in the dirt, something like the sorcerer lady's land rover. land rover is a completely different story we're not going to get into that today it started again in england many many years ago they were used on farms basically as tractors but a lot of jeeps nowadays like if you look at this picture here a lot 2018 jeeps 19 20 20 today they are trying to go for the luxury style and they look more or less like this, black roof, white sides, black wheels.

Wizards Alante. Many of you already know that Mrs. Wizard is switching to a sl500. In fact, we have worked a lot on it. Let's make a video. we'll talk about that shortly but this thing is on the chopping block, this 93 cadillac alante is in pretty good shape it has some minor paint blemishes and the oil pan is leaking just like all the old north stars , I'm not going to fix that because engine off I'm not going to tear this apart that far, but it's in very good condition, other than that it's ready to go, it's ready to go.

We will have a link below that you can click and go to omegaautoclinic. .com, there is our contact information and you can contact Crazyd in the office who is actually selling this for Mrs. Wizard and me too I guess, but this is for sale and Crazy D will have all the information to you about how much it cost. What are the miles? He has all of that, so contact him and he will take care of you. Now back to jeeps, talking about luxury SUVs. This is my favorite. I love Range Rovers even with all their inherent air suspension issues. and all the problems they have I don't care, I absolutely love them just as we just talked about over the years we went from being strictly utilitarian almost to a farm type tractor, using the jeeps were World War II combat vehicles and jeeps as well as Land Rover has finished with luxury, great luxury, speaking of luxury, look at that blue, mmm, the beautiful blue of John Claude Van Damme, if you haven't seen Huvi's garage, he just made a video about this, you can see the history and history behind it. car is amazing now I have a list of three jeeps to buy three models and three jeeps to run as fast as you can.
I'm not really going to go into each individual model and year and stuff because there are so many of them, but there will be three that I would have no problem buying, I would buy them without batting an eye and there will be three that I wouldn't even think about taking my wallet out of my pocket. to buy one of the models that I would really recommend. The '97 to 2001 Jeep Cherokee Now this is the simple Cherokee, not a Grand Cherokee, this is the little square Cherokee XJ. I know they made them before '97, but in this year, from '97 to 2001, you get the most power and the most refinement. the creature consoles, everything is updated until they stopped manufacturing them in the United States in 2001, this year the Cherokee range is the best, these normally came with a four-liter inline six-cylinder automatic manual, but they were definitely four by four, most of them were two-wheeled. drive versions, but most of them were four by four, they meet the same standards as the vehicles of the old World War II, in that they are extremely resistant, extremely reliable, they are tough as nails, very strong, The inline six has plenty of torque at low revs.
These are not vehicles that you rev at six thousand dollars to get through the mud. You don't have to do it. You put it in low gear and creep along the trail. This is not a crazy fast race, it's just having fun. Outdoors I honestly think the XJ Cherokees could have been used in WWII and been just as successful. They really are that tough. They are basic. They are simple. But yes, they are very pretty at the same time. They really look. well like any chrysler vehicle they can have transmission problems you can't escape that on any chrysler vehicle and thinking about transmissions just wait until we get to the don't buy list but other than that these are amazing vehicles if I was up to it. in the mountains I would definitely have an , it's just the fact that they are much cheaper, they don't have the iconic round headlights of a jeep, they have square headlights, that's a very small sacrifice to have a Wrangler for a really cheap price.
You can see, you can see tjs and jks and all the different ones are 10 15 20 30 grand. You can find a yj for five or six that is in good working condition and you can customize it however you want or invest more money in it if you maintain it. hoovey's garage clue you'll know he had a yj it was actually a Jurassic Park jeep completely done with the Jurassic Park theme it's actually in a museum right now it was also used in car stuff which is a TV show that Tyler had that I was a mechanic on that show.
In fact, we also had it in one of our videos. You can get one of these for a really good price and still have an iconic Jeep Wrangler, most of the Wranglers from these years. You could get a four-cylinder or you could get the inline-six. I would definitely recommend the inline six. You can get them with a manual or an automatic. The Jurassic Park jeep I just mentioned was actually an automatic, which I guess it wouldn't do. It doesn't matter either way, you can buy one of these really cheap and still have money left over for tires, suspension upgrades, lift kits, light bars, snorkels, all kinds of different things you can do.
These vehicles are highly customizable and the aftermarket is astronomically crazy. These you can buy whatever you want, there are even engine changes to put Mercedes OM-617 5-cylinder inline diesel engines in the YJs, there are so many things you can do with these. I really like the yj for the value of what you pay and I definitely recommend them as a second one to buy and the last one that I am going to recommend to buy, which also has hoovey, is the 87 to 93 jeep grand wagoneer. These are large body jeeps, heavier and look like safari vehicles. They are the iconic ones. 1960s, go to the national park with the family, go on a picnic, go anywhere you want on all the trails, it's just that they are really amazing, they are beautiful vehicles, these typically had a 360 or a 401 amc v8, the motor is still in amc even. although the grand wagoneers ended up being a chrysler vehicle, they put in chrysler parts and such, they still had the amc engines.
However, these are not cheap to buy and are in good condition. You can find many of them that are rusted and have rusty holes in the body. and stuff for a pretty cheap price, if that's what you want, you'll just shove it through mud or rocks or whatever, that's fine, but if you're looking for a nice one that's in good condition with low miles, these things go pretty high 10 15 20 25 grand those won't be jeeps i recommend on a budget if you want a good one however i consider these jeeps to be the beast mode jeep they are all that and a bag of fries, they really have a lot of power, v8 power, very capable, you can carry all kinds of things in the back, they are very, very strong, I really recommend them, they are really good, you will notice that all of these that I just recommended are more models old, that's because That's when Jeep was still sticking to its mantra of rugged utility, World War II-type capability.
Serious Jeeps as we get into the newer models, like the Land Rover, they can still be very capable off-road, but they become more and more fragile and full of computers and cutting costs and trying different technologies that didn't work, let's take a look A look at the three Jeeps I wouldn't buy under any circumstances. The first one that is recommended not to buy is any Jeep Patriot with a CVT transmission. These may be I had manuals, I guess I would buy one of them, the jeep itself, the vehicle itself is not that bad, it doesn't have the ground clearance or capability of a Wrangler or some of the other jeeps I mentioned a minute ago , but As for the transmission they use in most of them, the CVT completely ruins the whole package.
Any CVT of any model, as I mentioned in previous videos, is garbage, they are not durable, they are not strong and when they break the local transmission. The guy will look at you and say, "Damn no, I don't rebuild those transmissions as delicate as these transmissions are and then you try to ride the trails of Colorado or something in your heart, they're not going to last." Finally I'm going shopping, how will they last on the road? You just say you buy a Patriot for four or five thousand dollars when your transmission fails, which it will probably have to.
It will take an additional four or five thousand dollars to replace it. The transmission possibly more depending on what went wrong or the cost of the transmission if you get a new one or a remanufactured or there are a lot of variables there but I will reiterate a story, it's not a Jeep but I remember it. a customer that came into a shop i used to work at was a nissan the cvt transmission went out six thousand dollars later the car was back on the road it cost more than the vehicle was worth and they were so upset they were like us I'm not angry at you because the mechanic is doing a good job.
We just can't believe this happened to this car and we took the transmission off the customer and they put it in their truck and drove a hundred mile radius going from store to store to store to say, can you rebuild this? Can you piece this together?, and the answer was "hell no, hell no, hell no." I'll hate it and as a bonus I won't get the 0708 early years compass in the early years range either. They are basically the same vehicle, just with a little different styling on the outside, the same 2 liter or 2.4 engine and CVT transmission, don't do it guys, the next one I recommend not buying is a Jeep Commander, any of them, especially the hemi, Mrs.
Wizard and I had one and it was disastrous, it was extremely unsatisfactory, the drains in the sunroof, I tried to clean them and it would clog again, it would rain on us, we would be on a family outing and it would rain on us car. Exhaust leaks on a hemi happen all the time when the bolts on the exhaust manifold break and the manifold has to be removed and replaced. Bolts on a Dodge Ram are not a problem on a Jeep Commander, where they've crammed this huge engine into this tiny little area, you're going to curse like you've never cursed before, it's actually extremely difficult to get anything into this engine.
It's really hard to work on it's not because it's hard to work on the engine, it's because if they put it in thisJeep Commander you can't put your hand anywhere, it was crazy, mine had an exhaust leak and I never fixed it. It was because I almost had to pull the motor, you had to slightly disconnect everything and pull the motor up to get to it and I thought, no, I'm not going to do that. These also have a viscous transfer case, they are known for their high failure rates. Mine was actually starting to fail and I caught it just in time and I drained the transfer case fluid, put in new fluid and some friction modifier and stuff and got it running again but these things fail like crazy it's a really high failure rate.
On these the build quality is poor, everything I worked on, everything I touched I thought wow that's cheap and doesn't really look like a jeep. like a range rover it's trying to be an lr3 or something . I'm not sure what they were trying to do with it, but I think it failed miserably. It could be a good vehicle, but the design behind it and the engineering behind it was very poor. so I would say stay away from the commanders they really aren't that good and the last one not to buy is the early 0.708 or so jeep jk wrangler miss assistant and I had one of these too we had several jeeps that we ran with finished.
I sold it in a year, Mrs. Wizard, yeah, probably, after about six or eight months, I thought no, no, I got rid of that thing as quickly as I could. We had the unlimited model, which was the four-door model. I put a little bigger tires on it to give it some ground clearance and a little lift and the 3.8 v6, although a big minivan engine, is very reliable. I don't really have a problem with it, but it's very underpowered in Kansas. There are straight lines and highways everywhere and it's flat as a pancake, but we'd still be on the highway, we put the cruise at 75, it couldn't even hold its own speed, it was downshift, upshift, downshift, an upshift, the engine was so underpowered.
Go figure when you're on the trail in low range it probably works fine but that was very disappointing another sore point I have with these especially if you have the black top we had little kids at the time they were both about four five six inches. In that range, I was literally cooking them in the back seats, we had the air conditioning on full blast and it was freezing through the vents and our kids were sweating and crying, they were literally cooking in the back seats because it's a hot summer in Kansas and they're 105 outside the top, where there is no insulation, was 160 180 and the heat was radiating right into the kids' faces.
I felt sorry for them. We had to go out and buy a small fan that plugged into a cigarette lighter and blew out the air conditioning. on them and it worked, it worked well, but the whole time I was driving this before we did the fan idea, I thought: what the hell were they thinking to make a family vehicle that literally cooks your kids in the back? No, this doesn't work, I told Mrs. Wizard, I said, I don't think this vehicle works for our family, it doesn't really work off-road, it was fine, we took it through Colorado, hit trails, went up Trail Ridge Road.
I had the top off and everything and the doors off and we got hailed and rained and it was fun, that part was fun, but ninety percent of the time I was very upset with the vehicle, another thing that really scared me and scared me. That's when I put my lift kit on at that time. I didn't have access to a lift like these here so I use jack stands so I raised the rear of the vehicle. I put jack stands on the frame fairly high off the ground. and when I let the jack down the whole frame bent and the tires are still touching the ground it's like I can't lift it any higher.
My jack stands were. I asked myself: what is this plasticine frame made of? Don't know. They look really cool, but after having them for a year I would never own another early JK again. They are horrible. Oh, and one last thing, good luck getting someone to make a cheap heater core on one of those. I made one for the male. Boy, when he was working at the shop near where he lived, his heater core went out, it was his mail jeep, it ended up being a nightmare. You have to undo the harness in the engine bay, unhook all the sensors and run the harness through the firewall because there's no connection, there's no bulkhead connector, they have to run the entire engine harness through the firewall just to get it.
I thought I'll never own a JK again, so I hope that helps if you're looking for a Jeep. small family outings, want to take your kids to the lake or do a little off-roading. You can definitely take what I said about buying and then not buying to the bank, where you will be happy and and where you will be cursing the sky, you will just be shaking your fists angry at those who shouldn't buy, I'm telling you before we close it, I won't. forget, if you are interested in Mrs. Wizard Orlante, contact Crazyd in the. office at the link in the description below, he can give you all the information.
