More Interesting Facts About,

the best lunch meat to buy at the grocery store and what to avoid...

There are several reasons why the number one on the front of every package says humanely raised, that really matters because when you get poultry, especially chicken, like chicken breast, they can be locked in warehouses that have 30,000 chickens in there with living conditions. horrible, I would also highly recommend getting the organic version because the organic protein really makes a difference, first of all you have a non-GMO food, look at the ingredients in all these different varieties here the chicken the turkey the ham it's just a handful of ingredients right, I call it all thriller no filler that being said look at the front of the package of the ham look where it says no added nitrates instead of doing that they add Celery powder and celery powder contain natural nitrates which will be converted as soon as they enter the package and They are practically as bad as artificial nitrates, but they need to, otherwise bacteria can grow here.

I would splurge on organic, it's just a little more either way, you can't go wrong buying any of these from Applegate, they are one of the best in their class, okay let's talk about some of these cheaper deli meats than I want you to stay away from here and exactly. what some of these ingredients mean because there's a lot of stuff here that starts with Lando Frost and I think there's a so-called boutique. If you see something in a plastic package like this, it's a little loose, that's usually a bad sign and then once we look.

In the ingredients here, when they start to last that long, it's a very bad sign, so in this type of packaging you'll see a couple of things here, like sodium nitrate, which are the nitrates that are added here and that people think of. It gets a bad rap in the news, but you need to, otherwise bacteria can grow here and whether they do that with the celery juice extract or the actual nitrates, it's pretty much the same thing, erythrobate. sodium, which is a food preservative that helps, again, preserve this, but it makes the uh, ham, pinker faster and we want everything to be pink and look really pretty because here it looks more attractive, so let's go to something called sodium phosphates, those are things you want to

avoid

when we look at the top brands that they don't have here. that's because sodium phosphates are a preservative and too many phosphates in the body are bad, it's really bad if you have kidney problems, colitis and too many phosphates can cause heart disease so it's a preservative that I would highly recommend avoiding and then in this one too.
They have maltodextrin, again, maltodextrin is that food preservative. I think we're seeing a theme here, the city of preservatives, but it's really bad for the gut bacteria in the stomach. Here we have yeast extract, which is another word for natural msg flavoring, so this is it. big nonsense, in case you don't know, it's mystery meat right, it basically says here it's meat, water, corn and a bunch of hydrolyzed crap here, this is basically made up of lips and anuses, that's what I call it and then this is the market pantry or the target variety uh be very careful with the third party types because number one says right here caramel color and added smoke they add the caramel coloring to the edges of the ham and the turkey to make it look like an oven roasting is not just caramel coloring, which is really bad because it's a known carcinogen and it's very bad for you, it's the same thing they put in like chicken broth to make it brown or coke prevents that, but this once plus it has all those bad ones Well, of course, I was just going to say that this one has all the preservatives that the other cheap ones have, so it's not worth saving money because these are really bad for your health.
You pay a little more and you get the others, you might think. You should stay away from all the Oscar Myers, but it's pretty interesting, so let's start with the Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh. They like to put words like Deli Fresh and clean packaging so it looks like it was just cut off the carving board, but the deli fresh version has a few less ingredients here, but it has carrageenan here, so the carrageenan is the emulsifier of seaweed. The problem is that it is really bad for your gut and gut bacteria and can wreak havoc on your intestines.
In fact, someone sent me an email. This week they told me they had had gastrointestinal problems for seven years. The doctors didn't know what it was. Finally eliminated the carrageenan after watching the videos and feels much better, especially with the ham. Read how much of this is brine, so it says here. up to 24 of this can be seasoning solution seasoning solution is like a brine, think about thanksgiving, right? You brine the turkey for two reasons, it adds flavor, it adds moisture, they do the same thing with this, but when you get the cheaper varieties, 24 of this is actually brine, so you're paying for the stuffing, so even though it's more Cheap in price, it is more expensive because you get less meat and more water, salt and jaggery.
This is bad news, but it is actually good news. Oscar Meyer Naturals. the only one you want to get is pretty much the same as Applegate except it's not organic but look at the ingredients that's how you know it's really good here it's just a few things and what are they using instead of caramel coloring to get the color on the outside here cherry powder how cool is that. I wish it was organic because it would have non-GMO feed, yes, but this is a little cheaper and very accessible, so Oscar Mayer natural is the only one you want to get.
I'll show you that his farm is a brand you want to stay away from, no matter what variety it is, because here we start with the basics. Hillshire Farm ham has a lot of those ingredients we don't like. It has sodium phosphate. It has natural flavorings that we don't want. If we go to the basic Hillshire turkey breast, they're using preservatives here again and they're using carrageenan here. The reason these guys use carrageenan is because it's a processed meat product and they want number one to have a shelf life and number two to be rich and smooth and creamy and that's what carrageenan, their emulsifier, does.
Now Hillshire actually has a natural version here, very similar to Oscar Mayer's, but you don't I don't want to buy this natural because number one, number one, this is interesting, the natural version of ham says up to 15 of a solution and the cheaper one says up to 24, so at least with the premium you get more meat, but the premium one still has carrageenan in the ham and carrageenan in the turkeys, but Oscar Meyer doesn't trust that, so that's why I would leave this out and I would order my or natural all day. Can I interest you in a different one? from oscar myers, the natural one is much better, yes, right now, yes, the ingredients are much better, yes, it is barely more expensive before talking about the salami.
I also want to let you know that you can get very high quality organic deli meats. from aldi at a fantastic price even no non organic brand is good quality and trader joe's has organic turkey and ham at a great price uh pepperoni once again the only pepperoni I would get would be Applegate because number one is humanely Raised pork, if it's not humanely raised or pasture raised, it's raised in feedlots in really bad conditions, but compare the ingredients here guys, the normal one here of uh, this is the target brand. here it has powdered milk, nonfat powdered milk, so if you are allergic or intolerant to dairy, you may not know it, but this will upset your stomach and this one has sodium nitrates and preservatives, while the Applegate doesn't.
Nothing of that. It actually has chard powder and garlic powder, much cleaner, especially in comparison. for any of these, the one from Hillshire Farm is pretty much garbage and if you want to get Applegate's turkey pepperoni 2, I'm telling you Applegate is crushing the game, it's super clean, there are no bad ingredients, I would only go to Applegate for the pepperoni, this one is actually it's real it's all natural ingredients it's not fake yeah well it's stuff that's the problem look carrageenan is really bad for you sodium phosphates are a really nasty preservative and this one isn't has none of that, we have to talk about salt. because anytime you talk about processed deli meats, salt is going to be very prevalent, but we can't control how much salt we use, so for example, this is the oven roasted turkey breast from Target, it's a whopping 540 milligrams per serving.
The government recommends we eat about 2,300 milligrams, so this is about a quarter of the daily salt intake of a few slices of turkey, but you can do better when you start making Applegate, the amount of salt decreases and the type salt is better. Look at the back of the ingredients here it says sea salt, what are the others using the cheapest ones here? Normal table salt. We did a whole video on salt and not all salt is created equal. Sea salt is actually good for you because it is unrefined most of the time, this is table salt or iodized salt that is chemically bleached, so again I would go with apple gate, even the one I recommended here, the all-natural one from Oscar Meyer, has a little more salt, but I'm okay with that because the quality is much better, but something to keep in mind is the salt, which unfortunately is very high in all of these processed meat products.
Can I recommend a different brand that has some bad ingredients? The turkey has carrogin, yes, yes. I would eat carrot because it's a preservative and it makes it creamy because it's like a processed meat product. Wow, I actually had a vegan selection here for deli slices and I wanted to cover them for all my vegan fans, the only one they had. here's the tofurkey and that's not my preferred option here because number one is made from soybeans. I'm just not a big fan of soy and it's a little more processed than I like to see with some ingredients I don't like here, but there is another option called field roast.
I really love having a field roast during the holidays. They have it at Whole Foods, lentil, sage, wild mushroom flavor and it's a much cleaner option. There is another option called Eaves Eaves. which I think is one of the lower quality health food companies because they use some really shady ingredients and it has carrageenan and natural flavorings so now when it comes to snack packs or

lunch

products stay away from that, they had this when i was a kid its just as bad now it has tons of fake ingredients and processed meat in there there really isn't a good pre packaged one i mean applegate makes a charcuterie plate but make your own with cheese and a cold meat from there and then I caught it. this out of the corner of my eye is a brand called oh snap and they're just pickles and they want to make you think here it's like a premium version but I don't like these because flip it over it's a pickled cucumber it's a pickled carrot, it should have a couple of ingredients, it's loaded with preservatives, sodium benzonate, natural flavorings, polysorbate 80.
These are strong, strong preservatives, guys, if you want to give your child the best pickle possible and yes, there is one that is from bubbies, bubbies makes a naturally fermented pickle, meaning there is no vinegar in the brine, why is that so important? Because vinegar is very acidic when it is a natural fermentation, it is very rich in probiotic intestinal bacteria and is very good for the stomach, this is the kind of thing you should avoid. I would only get the pickles, they aredelicious and by the way, now that you are learning the best quality meats to make your sandwiches, you should also know what kind of cheese and what kind of bread to use, luckily, art and me. have those videos already made at the end of this video, check out our cheese review and our bread review spoiler alert.
If you want to use sprouted grain bread and organic cheese, you will make the best quality sandwich that will fill you up and give you the most. nutrients and will satisfy your hunger. One more thing I wanted to add is that the deli counter is not much better than this here. A lot of people think that when it gets worse it's better quality because it's advertised, it's not like that. It's got a lot of those preservatives, a lot of sodium, a lot of those nasty fillers that these guys have too. You have to be able to read the ingredients that's what this video is about don't trust the label if it doesn't have high quality meat, I do organic and just a few ingredients is not good for you so that's it, now you have the knowledge to make the best quality sandwich to go to work at school, but tell us what you want to see next, right, we just got back to school, now we did the lunch review.
