Very good guys, how are the repairs, I hope you are all well, today is a very, very special day because I am very excited to present to you the new brand of

katana

boss

. This is a sponsored video of me doing this. association with the

boss

. I'm really excited to be able to show you this on release day, which is actually October 3rd, that's also Ben's birthday, so happy birthday Ben, anyway, I'm going to show you the

katana

brand, and it will be incredible. As I'm sure most of you know, the Katana is probably one of the

best

selling amplifiers to come out in recent years.
the best just got better boss katana mk2
The boss absolutely nailed it with this amp. It was packed with features that we all love. The boys, Anderton. Rob all those guys, big fans of the katana range. I actually used the kt 52, my main practice amp downstairs, when I'm not cold here in the man cave. I also use the katana mini on the road, the katana air, which was the full remote control, you know, plug it in and you can use it anywhere, basically, they're amazing amplifiers. I mean, needless to say, we use them so much in sound too that you guys are getting frustrated by it, so I'm

just

still looking at the boss's katana.

More Interesting Facts About,

the best just got better boss katana mk2...

The other option, of course, which is my preferred option, is the boss katana. boss 212's katana because it's a beast, the car that is Fowler. I'm going to use a katana. I know you know we use a katana. a lot, but this is also a problem, my favorite. I mean, I might as well use a katana. I think we'll

just

go with the katana. We need a lot of effects, reverb, delay, chorus, we need a lot of gauge to see where you're going and then they see us. They are very good katanas, which shows that they really sound very good and they have really nailed it because this amp has too many functions that you can use literally with the push of a button or turn of a knob, so today we are looking at the new brand, now the boss I wanted to make it perfectly clear to everyone that it was already a great amp, it was an award-winning amp, so they just updated it, they just changed a couple of little things to it instead of making a completely new amp, so, In essence, this amp is more or less the same as the katana, however, there are some updates in terms of its functionality, sound design and now there are more effects, things like A couple of features that we will look at in this video are basically a overview of how it works, what's different and of course how it sounds.

It's definitely worth letting you know that these updates only apply to the 5200, 212, and hundred watt. head, although since the Gaetano mini in the air and all that will remain the same, what is going to happen is that the original katana will be discontinued, so 50, 102, 12, etc., will be discontinued and replaced with brand 2, all other models below those will. It's still the same in terms of 50 Mark 2, it will be 269 euros and all prices are in euros. Currently the hundred watt Mark 2 on my left is 379, then you have the 212 which is $4.99 and then the main Mark 2 which is 419 so they are all really reasonably priced considering what you get with this amp and it is also a saying that if you have created any patch in katana 1 brand, it can be copied to katana.
the best just got better boss katana mk2
Mach 2 and they will work the same, so they wanted to make sure that anyone who has a katana and wants to upgrade can do so without losing any of the patches or anything they created themselves, another amazing feature in terms of the look, size and the feel of this amp are exactly the same, they have the same kind of weight, dimensions, everything else looks slightly different with this new emblem on the front and you will notice that on the top panel there are things that have changed, but others. Other than that, it's virtually identical, which is good to know.
What's new in the Mark 2 katana? I have some notes that I've written because there are a lot of different things to remember, but the first thing I should point out is that there is now a variation. button now that's really cool because what it does is it adds five different amp models to katana, so before you had that rotary switch that could go between the different amps, now you have a variation button that gives you 5 more, so on You actually have 10 different amps in total variations of the clean crunch lead and brown acoustic sound, so it's really cool because they're just different options for different players, different sounds, different guitars, everything else.
Another cool feature is that it now has two concentric potentiometers for your effects. So, whereas before you had to know how to go between boost and modulation to find where you want it, you have to go to 12; so you know access to a different effect, it's now on dual concentric potentiometers, which means you can use the bottom. part of the pot to say boost and the top part of the effect of the pot for modulation, which you can see the closer you get, what I mean is just in terms of functionality and ease of use, they've answered some good questions. that people have had about it, so it's really cool to see another really cool feature: there are now a total of 65 boss effects built into katana Marc; all of which are programmable, you can save them and edit them to the nth degree using the Marc katana. - editor which I will also show you in a moment and another very cool feature is that we have a power amplifier in the back so you can run the cabin.
You know, you can attach gt-1000 on a propeller to a Kemper. the power amp takes part in this and basically uses a Class A B power section coming out of the 112 cab which is really useful, for example if I'm on tour with Frog Jump and I want something on stage I could just run my propeller on power. and pinning this down and having a little booth on stage in case my ears fall out, for example, another really cool feature that I'm personally excited about, although I can't show you in this video because I have katanas, is the stereo expansion feature. meaning if you have two of these you can run this in true stereo where one of these katanas will be a slave to the other fully functional with all the stuff on the top panel it will affect both but other than that you can control the whole the stereo from a master g AFC footswitch, so if you run the G AFC on the back of the katana you can run the ladder expansion use and control everything from the same footswitch which is really cool and it delivers that true stereo sound, whether it's ping pong, delays, reverbs, vibes, chorus, whatever, it would sound very tasty, like I said, there's a new editor that we'll take a quick look at, you'll probably see a little screenshot quickly . to show you, but that will allow us to edit all of our patches, save them, assign them to banks, assign them to different things, all that kind of stuff, so it's really very useful.
We also have the G AFC footswitch in this video, which is basically providing sort of full pedalboard functionality where you can toggle and turn on or off any effect that you've assigned to that patch and also control up to four channels and then you have the additional versions of those channels so you can In fact, you can run eight channels from the footswitch and activate your effects manually if you want, which is very useful, and something only for the 212 and the main version is that you have resonance control kab on top of them, whereas if I want to use the KT 100 brand to need to do it in the editor, but you can still control the kab resonance like vintage, modern, deep, all that kind of stuff before we get stuck in the editor and start making all our tones.
I just wanted to pass quickly. the new amp variations in the katana map essentially the variation is like a and b so a is exactly the same as the first batch of katana so you won't lose or anything will be different there but when you press variation there It's where you get everything. the new different sounds for those amps so first you have two acoustics obviously you have your standard acoustic and then the variation for the demo that would need a stick guitar and it's basically an acoustic preamp so I'm not going to show you that in This video we're going to focus on the electric guitar and all that kind of stuff, so in the clean variation, obviously, the first one is like it was, the clean variation is like more body, more bass, it's kind of a sound. a little bit more like a deluxe vintage or something, you know, the crunch variation is a little bit thicker, it's a little bit raunchier kind of sound, just a different voice for that kind of crunchy rhythm tone if you wanted to use it so the lead variation is based more on that kind of high gain American tone, so it's thick and really good for epic solo solos without a lot of definition and punch, if that makes sense, and then the lead variation is based around your kind of archetypal American high gain metal amp, if that makes sense, I think you guys know what I mean, you'll probably hear what I mean when I plug in the old baritone to show you some rich and dirty stuff, but that's all Amp Variations It's also worth noting that these are not modeled amps, so they don't take a criminal model and then modify it.
These are all boss's own amp models, if that makes sense, they're completely original to the boss, so me and me. I really like it because they obviously do a very good job anyway let's take a look at the editor okay so let's take a quick look at the boss tone studio for katana mark 2. Really simple it's very easy to use and I love how you know yourself. You can do everything here, it affects the amp and you can save everything, assign it to the footswitch, the rest is just cool, so this is the top panel of the amp, as you can see, we have all of our amp types here and then. the variation button which switches between the variations of each amp model, then we have volume gain, bass, mid and treble as always, then we have our boost level, we have a modulation level, effects, delay, reverb, which is everything you know you can do. turn them on and off with these buttons and then we have our cabin resonance.
This is really useful in general terms, something that comes on the 212 and the hundred watt head is actually on a button on the panel itself, but if you want to change this. you have to do it in the studio on duty for anything like the 100 watt combo or the 50 watt combo anyway, vintage, modern, deep, they all sound different, they're just different types of cab resonance, it depends on what you like and the presence now below all these buttons. The tabs make up two different features on the amp, so we'll leave this area here for a space for now and just focus on the type of effects area so that the reverb for each reverb is as you can see, it has a hole for the plate room.
Modulation is actually the power button to turn them on and off and then obviously it can affect all the parameters here, you know, depending on what you're using. Generally, that's how you do it. You can have two or two delays running at once. We'll focus on this analog delay, for example, or let's do SD D SD 3000, as you can see, there are tons more options here, loads that you can affect to really fine-tune the effect. If we move on to the effects, it depends on what is there. using, but you have all these cool choruses, flangers, phasers, phibes, Tremeloes, rotaries like Leslie, cabs, ring modulations, compressors, limiters, smart EQ octaves, it's tons of stuff, even a DC 30, I mean, it's fair game, they have so much here that you can play with it and obviously depending on the effect you use, change the parameters that you can affect afterwards and then the modulations are more equal.
Basically, the effects of a modulation give you the option to load if they were the same two different ones you could do. The old MA does a trick and uses two phases if you want to start with that kind of sound, which is very good, but it's still more of the same at that point, boost, which is all our different boosts, clean boost, treble, medium reinforcements, crunches the blues. driver, you have the OD. I guess it's like the OD and we have a warm turbody OD tube, screeching, distortion, distortion plus the governor, like the old Marshall, a rat has metal zone.
I have the first muff from the 60s, an octave. just cool how many different types of things you can use here on the left side these are my different channels set up so I have channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 and then B 1, 2, 3 and 4 and the easiest way The way to switch between a and B is if you hold down the panel button and that's how you jump between presets A and presets B and then once you've found a sound you like you pressto the right gives you an option here, where do I want it to be? saved, let's say channel 2 and then I rename it, example, there you go, look at that and then if I type that, now it's saved, now it's the Revere example on channel 2 a and yeah, basically, it's that simple using the main feature of Tone Studio, of course, you have a library where you can essentially save all your live sets if you're playing with this and we have Tone Central, which needs to connect to the Internet but essentially allows us to share and display. our different patches I'm going to make some custom patches for the katanas.
We should be able to jump to the core tone and grab and then the system, which is usually everything you know, preferences and parameters and all that kind of stuff. It's that simple to use and I actually find this user interface very simple, which I enjoyed, so there you go, let's take a look at the boss tone studio for katana mark. Well, let's take a quick look at the editor, first let's discuss some shades. the entire signal chain. I have the Aston stealth mic, which is great for guitars that are in the cab and go directly into the Universal Audio Apollo x8p interface.
I'm going to be using my Fender Custom Shop strat 71 Les Paul Custom and my Chapman ml3 is going to be a baritone guitar, so let's just get stuck in, we're on the clean channel, right? Now I'll press the variation button for you in a moment and we'll listen to it, I'll just let you know that I have the GAF C footswitch on the floor that activates the effects and enhancers that I dial in myself, so I have reverb delay I have a little bit of univibe I have some octave and I have a blues controller and I'll mark them up as I go but I just went I want you to hear the sound of the amp with the mic directly in so let's get some reverb and delay in there Ransome octave I love the octave sounds great univibe you and then the Blues controller so this is without and with ok let me show you the clean variation this is the standard clean and here comes a variation Oh I can hear in the room and I hope Mike talks about it but if you get a little more midrange, there's more body, it definitely sounds closer to a kind of deluxe classic combo.
I'm going to move on to the crunch now, so I'm going to remove the variation, let's move on to the crunch and let's hear how it sounds, so I'm going to play around with the controls a little bit so we can get some decent tones here, obviously, I also have the presence that I normally have. I have. I like to roll the presents on the katana a little bit with a lot of gain, that's for my personal taste, it sounds great, there's an octave that sounds great, it's just right with the blues controller, it sounds great.
I'm just playing at this point, so that's it. dry, I'm going to do it from the variation, so you get a little bit more sizzle on top again, it's hitting the mids a little bit more, a little bit thicker compared to before and then again you can hear it just sizzle a little bit further. which I like, so now we've moved on to higher gain vocals, lead and brown, so I'll use a Les Paul and the baritone to show you what they sound like, but this is basically the lead guitar from the first one. before the variations so I'm going to add some reverb and delay that was in the gate halfway through so I turned it up now to 3/4 okay let's listen to the variation this is before it sounds great and then the variation which I'm going to load more presence in there so I can easily turn it on and off and again, not only do you have equalizers that you can bring to this amp and fine tune the sound, but I'm just showing you kind of a panel. things right now, so yeah, let's leave that presence a little bit, okay, that would be the main sound, let's move on to the brown, let's bring out the baritone, okay, I have the baritone, now we are in the brown sound and this is not the variation . this is the Brown straightened sound here we go amazing correct variation this is pre and variation so that's all the amps and variations of course there is an acoustic preamp here but I'll leave it to someone who is very good at acoustics to show it, not to me, but we have clean brown crispy lead, but those variations I hope you can hear the differences for me.
I really love the variation of the clean. I think that's something that I was really excited about when I heard this was coming out, but yeah, it's really nice to have that. and it really sounds great on the strategy and again being able to get the Blues driver in there which is my favorite type of drive pedal versus a light cleaner or a crunch for things like that blue stratum stone, big fan of that, it's okay, so at this point, now that we've gone through all the amps and variations and I'm playing with different tones, I thought the easiest way to do this really because there's a lot of it and the video would last ten years if I tried to do it. all of them is that I'm just going to do a couple of variations like a pedalboard if that makes sense, so I'll program the amp as a preset and I'll be able to turn on different effects and things to give you an idea of what you can do with this amp using the G AFC , so I set up a patch right now that is essentially the clean on the variation, so I have a full reverb in there quite a long decay.
I put out something high-end and now we can scream retard. This is the sdd 300. Next is the cable in the effect. Next I added a tremolo with some reverb. Sounds really good. and finally I have an octopus that is just tripping because it sounds sick, needless to say it's a great sound, one of my favorite sounds in general, but it's cool that you can just dial it in and have it on a footswitch and still work. Back to a nice chill sound, a little bit of reverb and delay, the point is to use the GFC with this too, you know, for gigs and stuff like that, you've got everything you could ever want and that's just a bank, you know ? literally channel 1a and they're channel one a and B and then you have four so you have eight different banks in total and the amount of things that I just used and turned on and off with that channel basically is There are endless things that you can do using the footswitch, so it's really cool and you also have an expression pedal and a volume pedal on the back of the footswitch, so you can add things like they have a knock type sound here.
So you can use a pitch shifter with an expression pedal on the side which allows you to do that which is cool, you can also do a real wah because there's a cable function in the effects section so that's cool too Anyway, let's try it. humbuckers and get some other sounds. It was a different sound, that was the octave fuzz octave octave fuzz but I just wanted to try it with a Les Paul and it sounded sick anyway, let's try some other sounds. I just came across this one. Sixties Gund fuzz and it's kicking in like a silicon vibe. check this out, really random but pretty cool.
Okay, now set up a bunch of sounds. I'm going to control it with the GFC. I'm using the crisp mode, not the variation. straight crunch this is how it sounds really thick now when launching the boost the blues driver kicked in a bit now the modulation I chose is a heavy octave so next time a SERP is really cool it will use a graphic equalizer like further. like a notch filter, so how could you use this in context? It could be like the intro to your melody or whatever, where it sounds like a radio sound and then when you step on it, it fills in again, so I don't do that.
I know it's a random riff to give you an idea. You know, by using the graphic equalizer I can really create that sound as a song and then add the octave to get a thicker riff in the song. Really great delay and reverb. The delay is inverse and the reverb. It's a long turntable, so there's a bunch of other sounds, to be honest, it's great, what I feel about this rig is that, you know, with the GFC footswitch controlling this, it gives me two banks per channel, If you know what I mean, I bet I'm done.
I have eight different channels and all these effects that I can add and add wherever I want, basically you could make a whole list of sounds using this rig, it sounds really good. I really hope the microphone sounds good to you. guys, because in the hall it's really rewarding to do everything with your foot and then be able to tweak it really well using the editor, so like before the gig you get all the sounds you want, load it up to go to the gig, use the footswitch don't worry about anything on the panel it's just amazing, right, let's make some sounds with the baritone.
Okay, now I have the baritone. We'll make a couple of sounds with this. I thought about dividing it between, for example. a vibe that I like with the baritone and then something heavier so this is the kind of crystalline thing that I have so clean no variation on the variation of the clean just for the sake of experimenting here is a variation for me that I prefer is without just a little bit softer for the baritone, so here comes the long decay reverb, the tape delay, not the tape delay for my effect. I'm using something called slow gearing, which is like a slow increase in volume, so starting with a modulation.
I'm using backing vocals and I finally thought about using the brass zone just because why not this is sin and this is win so there are some of the sounds that I created for the baritone, what I'll probably do in the future is create a video. that just focuses on the tones, the different sounds and effects that we can use with the katana brand, because obviously these videos are going to be very long, I think it depends on how John edits it, but for this video I really just wanted to focus as an in - Take an in-depth look at the entire amp in terms of its new features, but also the GFC and how everything can be really functional for a playing musician, but also if you just want a lot of useful tools at the push of a button with your feet, it's very easy to do that so yeah basically it was more of an overview in this video and like I say I'll do a dedicated tone video in the future so there you have it there's a look at the boss' new brand of katana.
The thing about this for me is not only is it really affordable, it's packed with amazing effects that you can do whatever you want with its functionality using the GFC footswitch, meaning it's totally gigantic, you can cycle through it, it sounds fantastic and it's mega easy to set up and lastly I think it's an all in one package for a guitarist who doesn't want the hassle of having a bunch of different pedals always on a budget or who doesn't know what they want yet because they are beginning your tonal journey. I think something like the katana provides beginners, intermediates and professionals.
I mean, you know, yeah, this is a sponsored video, of course, but I'm really good friends with the Boss guys that I've been with. to Japan I have met the people behind the products and done all that and my honest opinion is that they really are the bosses on this side of the market, they just nail it, you can't argue that this doesn't sound. Well all of that is not functional or not useful, like everything it says just tells me that here is something that you can do everything in one box and you have nothing to worry about and it is a super easy to use professional kit of all modes.
Enough ranting about how good the katana is and the brand of the katana; It's nothing short of amazing, so I really hope you enjoyed this video. Thanks to the boss for allowing me to be one of the first people to show this. Links in description. box below I hope you enjoyed the video, please subscribe and share it and I will see you soon.
