desktop tile on the home screen. And there was no way to boot from the desktop by default. And once you were there, there was no home button. So it wasn't exactly clear how to get back to the home screen. You basically had to press the Windows key on your keyboard, which is not intuitive at all. I almost n

use that key anyway. Finally, Microsoft released Windows 8.1 in 2013, which improved much of the Windows keyboard and mouse interface. For example,   brought back the home button, which would open the home screen. So there was still no start menu, but at least the button was there.

It also allowed you to boot from the desktop by default. And then they added close and minimize buttons to Windows Store apps. Obviously, many people found this very confusing coming from older versions of Windows. It wasn't all necessarily bad though, there were actually some good additions. For example, the Fast Startup feature, which allowed for much faster boot times. There were improvements to the task manager. There was an updated Windows Explorer. It also included Windows Defender built in, which was a reasonable antivirus. There is also support for DPI scaling if you have different monitors of different sizes.

More Interesting Facts About,

And there were also cloud sync settings. There were a lot of features, but because it was so unintuitive and had such a bad reputation, many people didn't even bother updating it. I know I didn't do it. I stuck with Windows 7. I thought, "I'm not even going to touch that." I tried it, I think a computer was using it. It was so bad I didn't even want to use it. Finally, at number one, in my opinion the

worst

operating

system in history, we have Lindows from 2001. No, I'm not wrong. No, that's not a spelling mistake. In fact, there was an

operating

system called Lindows.

And no, it wasn't a joke either. It was a legitimate and serious attempt to basically create a Linux-based operating system that had a Windows-like interface and also supported running major Windows applications by using the Linux Wine API. The problem was... It didn't work. And apparently, after only a few months of trying to develop it, the creators finally scrapped the initial idea and focused on creating an operating system that would make it very easy to install Linux applications on it. But they actually added some interesting features to it, for example a software distribution service called "click-to-run", which was GUI-based, making it very easy to install any number of Linux software packages.

Keep in mind, this was back in 2001, when that was kind of a novelty. Apparently, the service had more than 30,000 applications that could be installed through it. How

ever

, it was not free. There was a basic service, which cost about $20 a year, that allowed you to use it. And at the time it received a lot of criticism from the Linux community for having paid proprietary software that you had to pay to use, which went against the general idea of the Linux community, I guess. Also, Microsoft wasn't exactly happy with all this because of the name, I guess. So they sued the makers of Lindows and lost.
The court sided with the Lindows creators. However, Microsoft eventually reached a deal, reportedly paying them $20 million to buy the rights to the Lindows name. Then the operating system was renamed Linspire, which is what it is still called today. So it wasn't like this was just a random hobby project. In fact, it got some recognition and companies bought it. And it has changed hands in terms of ownership over the years. Therefore, it is a legitimate operating system. It just never caught on because of all the criticism and, well, it's kind of a strange concept. And there are many other more popular Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu.
So it never really took off, which is why you've probably never heard of it. So let me know in the comments, if you have an OS that you think should have been number one, or you think should have been on the list first, let me know.
