The 261mph Bugatti Chiron | Chris Harris Drives | Top Gear

Feb 27, 2020
Eleven years ago, Bugatti lent me a Veyron for a day. It was one of the best racing days of my life and it kind of boosted my career because we posted a video of me doing 220s and something and a lot of people saw it on the internet. well now Bugatti has a new car it's called Chiron and once again they have given it to me for a day what would you do with your one day in a Chiron obviously I'm going to drive all day but before I go some numbers two million pounds 1500 horses force four turbochargers eight liters 16 cylinders yes this is the new Veyron, we are actually on the board of Oman and the United Arab Emirates on some impressive mountain roads, let's go around here for a bit, yes, amazing or whatever Would my American colleague say that it would take us about 400 yards of driving this year to realize that this is a profoundly different car from a Veyron.

I suspected and feared that it would simply be another Veyron with more power; In other words, a car that was immensely impressive in a straight line at very high speed, but didn't really like corners, this car loves corners, in fact on this road it knocks down most other cars and that Damn, split the spirit, this is one of the best electric steering racks I've ever come across. Driven there are apparently seven different algorithms that overlap giving the drivers the result is a car that you can place really well and there is the new Michelin Cup - super sticky tires and then there is the aluminum drive system which is useful, remember the electronics, meaning you can just leave the thing wide open and hang it on them.

More Interesting Facts About,

I'm not man enough to turn it off here and you don't need to anyway. What happens when you accelerate? Yes, I have no words to describe what this can do. level and compound, it is designed simply to demolish road services. I think technically this type of service is one of the most complete cars I've ever driven and I didn't really expect to say that the engine wanted to say sequential turbo, so from zip to about 3/8, I get to what the other two come with effects complete afterburners. You get a lovely stride in about 3/8 that makes you feel like a school kid again and the numbers displayed on the dash can I'm not really talking in terms of power and torque, this car has no equal on this road.

I don't think anything can stay with it, the 918, maybe with all its torque vectoring, but once you get to an open stretch, this thing is just brutal and it's so composed and you know what's fun, it's fun to thread it with precision is not a car, you let it slide on a slide or a little bit of slip is allowed in the driving mode in EB mode, which is the normal mode, you get more subtle handling. and a previous intervention in the electronics, but oh God, that is an extraordinary, extraordinary machine, that's my look of surprise, but I didn't expect this car to be able to do this on a windy road.

Wow, it may be a lot better than expected on a windy road, but. You have to reach a certain speed during your 24 hours with a Chiron, so we'll head back to Allen, head back to Mare Harbor, where we're filming a TV movie, and head north at 200 miles per hour. This is what you might call a clue look. look at that to see look at that to see very often people like me get a little dismissive of straight line speed, they lack skill, circuits are more glamorous, there is something about a car that can go around a circuit, the maze It's somehow more believable than the car that can go straight in a straight line but the speeds are addictive aren't they?
The speed is addictive. I'm addicted to speed. I have a 3 mile track in front of me in a car with 1500 faults that is currently limited to 236 miles. one hour, what would you do? No. I'm going to have this crazy vehicle run through the entire pressure monitoring system. They are going to treat us all as bases because tire pressure is critical. Now I'm running well below the boss with a bar. It is dangerous, pressure drops with air have flavors of losing pressure and rewriting the army inside. Scandalous. There is so much airflow over the front tires that they cool down as you go 200 miles and lose pressure.
How crazy is that. Wow, I really don't know. Know where to start with Chiron numbers and specs. It weighs one thousand nine hundred and ninety-five kilograms, that is, 45 kilograms more than a Veyron. The basic structure is shared with the older car, but the wheelbase is longer and much stiffer. The quad turbo w16. the engine has the same capacity as before but the block is stronger the turbos now run at 1.85 bar one boost and run in pairs sequentially it only likes 98 octane fuel the power is 1500 horsepower and speaking of 1180 lb-ft He said that without laughing The dual clutch transmission has been completely redesigned The aerodynamics are complicated The rear spoiler has four positions The headlights have double inlets and the air accelerated by the flanks acts as a stability device You can really feel it with two hundred and thirty miles per hour the front brakes four hundred and twenty Silicon carbide discs, carbon, milk, they are simply immense.
The Sheeran isn't an engineering revolution, but it is an impressive set of numbers designed to pass all the usability and drivability tests expected of a Volkswagen Group product, and that's mine.
