Have you been Miss PPI welding? If so call us now at o2 three high nine seven oh six oh three two one four four four three nine seven seven six four four four eight nine seven don't worry we only take a 98% cut off well hello and welcome to another episode of

fully

loaded. This episode is very specifically about the

tesla

powerwall

2. I installed it about eight weeks ago and the reason for the rather unusual opening of this episode was because that's how I paid for it. I didn't know I actually had a PP. For those of you who are abroad, you won't know what that is at all and you are very lucky.

It is called a personal protection insurance plan. Is a gotcha. Is a gotcha. It was what British banks did. I did it, it was a total scam. I was paying for it for 18 years and I didn't know. I thought it was an interest payment from my bank anyway. I got a refund which is very nice and that's what you paid for this so it's kind of relevant batteries let's be honest and not very exciting to see you know there's no moving parts there's no little brass valve that you can polish, there are no little cams and pistons coming out of there, it's just a box that runs very quietly anyway, this is it. about the

tesla

powerwall

three months ago a van arrived and some lovely lads unloaded a big heavy package inside there was a shiny white slab they drilled and screwed in some cables and installed and about four hours later it was ready to turn on nice working traps.

More Interesting Facts About,

tesla powerwall 2 domestic storage battery installation and review fully charged...

A few weeks before all this, I replaced my old 2.2 kilowatt solar panel with a new 5.5 kilowatt solar panel, so since installing the Powerwall, you might have become a little obsessed with the Tesla app. I have to show you this. because it's very good, right now that it has the powerwall it's one hundred percent

charged

already because it's a sunny day, which is very nice and that's Joe, so that initial screen just shows you how much you have in the

battery

, if I pass to the flow of energy, here we go, so I'm getting 3.9 kilowatts right now from the solar panels, now 2.2 has gone down a little bit and I'm also charging the car and there you can see it's changing between all the like this which I'm charging the Tesla right now, but only with three kilowatts, so it's only on the three prong plug, it's not on the normal seven kilowatt charger, so it's charging slowly at a few miles per hour , but what I know is that I get all this energy only from solar energy and the rest of the day, so what I do is on a sunny day, as soon as it reaches a hundred cents, I connect the car, this will soon be automatically assumed by zappy charger.

I'll soon install another program on that in the near future, so the sun has set now and I'm only getting 0.7 kilowatts, as you can see there, but then you can see that throughout the day, how the day is. It's structured so that it's the four things: house usage, solar production,

battery

usage, and grid usage, so if I turn off everything else, you'll see how much grid power we haven't used, it's say, point one of a kilowatt hour. from the grid and then if I scroll down and we've given the grid five point two kilowatt hours it's because it was in the car and I didn't charge it until now, but then you can see the house usage, so let's move those two out that's the amount we've used in the house so you can see these little spikes throughout the day it's boiling a kettle it's a washing machine it's making toast this morning it was a pretty big drop that it all came from the battery, none of that was coming from the grid, as you can see from the other grid usage, then there was sort of general computer usage of the lights we're using for filming and then more recently the car charging and as you can see there is a pretty big peak when it was first turned on and then it levels off, so I can see from this that we have used 7.2 kilowatt hours in the house, in fact the cars have not used yet about two of those.

Let's say about five kilowatt hours in the house, now we can see what the solar energy has produced; so far it has produced twenty one kilowatt hours today and you can see from below that 28.4% has gone to the house, forty five point eight percent. gone to the electric wall and twenty-five point eight percent to the grid now normally, if I have a really good day and I'm working here and I have control, I can reduce the amount that goes out to the grid to four or five percent because I'm putting a lot more in cars once the batteries run out so there's still an obsession with management from my point of view you wouldn't want to do this every day this is because I'm really you know a lot about this you can.
Now I'll show the battery usage so you can see what the batteries have been doing today. There are some peaks in the morning, which was when we were having breakfast early in the morning, it was quite interesting. one very early in the morning and I don't know what that is, I turned on the shower extractor at around six in the morning because I was in the shower, so you can see, so the solar was charging the battery. old all this morning and that's what happens when it's below the line which is the batteries being filled and when it goes above the line which is the battery being delivered so we've only had one comma four killer hours on the battery today, the rest has been on the battery nine point two killer hours on the battery and it wasn't empty this morning when I woke up, that's why it's full.
I hope this makes some sense to you and you can see it there when I turn on the network. That's so much energy that goes to the battery and then once the battery is full, the energy goes to the grid. You can see very clearly where it turns gray is where it goes to the net. The other thing you can see in this is how much of its daily use comes from batteries and solar panels and today ninety-eight percent of the electricity that we have used in the house comes from solar energy and batteries nineteen percent of the electric wall 79 percent of solar energy yesterday was a very good day it was 99 percent forty-seven solar and 52 Powell, but if I look at the longer period, which is a week, as you can see , now 54% comes from electrical wall welding and the remaining 46% is off-peak electricity. it is used at night to charge cars and if I look at the month it is a little better, 63% and that again, remember the rest is the off-peak electricity to charge the electric car, so we are using two electric cars per Tesla . and a Nissan Leaf, so they consume quite a bit of electricity, but that's all off-peak electricity and some of this energy, some of that 63% has definitely gone to cars as well, so it's a combination of the two things, but obviously in the first month I had I was very strict about loading the cows because I was obsessed and I got to 84%, so I think a realistic assessment of what I would do if you didn't have an electric car is at a level high.
Eighty percent this time of year and probably in the low 70s in the winter, so that's the gist. The other great thing is that I can do it from here. Look, I can switch to the car, so now in a moment, once that catches up to me. it's charging, it's done ninety, it's got 98 miles of range and it's charging right now, but it's only at 6 miles an hour, you can see, it's very, very slow, 6 miles an hour, it's only 10 amps, so It is unplugged from a small three pin socket and the reason I use it is because it charges it slowly all day and I don't take anything from the mains.
I know there's enough in the battery and solar to cover that, so I've put it in since we had the This system installed and it solved it. You have about 320 miles of total range in the car thanks to solar and battery power. Not bad at all, so let's meet Chris Jardine and find out more about the electric wall. I'm joined now by Chris Jardine from Joe Joe. Just, it was Chris' company that put in the new solar around my roof and the new inverter and the electric wall here and it's great to have you back, Chris, thank you so much for finding the time to come and explain things to me, so what we did this morning.
Which maybe stupid I said on Twitter if you have any questions about power and we have about 900 well let's see what it sounds like yeah let's see what we do but anyway let's quickly explain one of these so there are panels solar. on the roof of the building, there they go in, the energy goes into this inverter, that's right and it's a new inverter and that's because the previous one you had was too small, that's right, so we increased the size of your solar panel and that I needed a larger inverter to cope with that extra power and that converts the DC electricity from the power sources into AC electricity and that just lands on the fuse board as usual, as far as I know right now that the solar energy is producing quite a lot, we are not using much in the house, a lot goes to the battery, it is charging the battery right now, yes that is correct, so the tesla powerwall is connected to AC now, which means That battery unit simply plugs into this consumer unit, so it's very, very simple to install and doesn't really interact or relate to the inverter in any way.
The only extra piece it has is this box called the gateway and this is essentially what controls the battery. when to charge when to discharge because that's something I guess, I think when it was installed I knew it because we talked about it, the original

installation

of the power wall, you know, it's the lights that flash when you switch between the two, you can't see them, it's completely perfect, yes, this battery has thirteen point four kilowatts, yes, thirteen point four kilowatt hours, so it is a large

storage

capacity that is practically double that of the other models on the market, so that is really the key differentiator.
The big thing about the tesla powerwall 2 is that it has caused this huge drive, it's just a big drive which is useful, but obviously you need the rest of the system to match that to make sure you're actually using all that capacity or on a regular basis. Otherwise it's just idle, but let me go over some of the questions, I'm not referring to some of them that I know, so it says that when you charge a car, does it use power from the battery first or solar and then from the battery? ? So there are so many. answers to that there are many answers to that but it really depends on how you charge your car but the way the system was set up that generates from solar energy during the day that fills the wall with energy and then when the sun goes on at night, the electric wall then discharges to the loads inside your house, so you are running your house on the solar energy stored in the battery.
When midnight hits the car starts charging and we discharge the battery essentially in the electric vehicles so that the battery is empty the next morning ready to go through another cycle and that means we are

fully

utilizing the capacity of that battery right now thermodynamically, which may seem a little strange that you're charging a battery and then it discharges to go into your car battery, but from an economic point of view that's the best way to do things because, first of all, it's using your solar electricity to offset the expensive grid electricity that powers your home and then you're putting the rest of your free electricity into your car and then if you need to recharge your car to fill it up again, you can use 7ai's cheap overnight rates to fill your cars completely and you can repeat that cycle, so that's certainly, I mean, that's.
Definitely what I've done and what's been interesting is the days where I haven't done it because the cars are full or I haven't used them, we're always at ninety-nine percent with just solar and battery power in the house. I know we've never done that and then if I charge the car it goes down to zero, eighty percent, so there's that little bit of it which is the nighttime use of grid power. Another question a lot of people asked was: can this be

charged

over time? At night, we say we're using off-peak electricity, so for example in the winter, there will be a chance that the functionality won't exist right now, but we understand that Tesla is in the process of doing that kind of thing. update and should.
It will just be a simple case to update the firmware on this control box directly to allow that sort of functionality to happen in winter, which you might struggle to get this autumn because they are dark winters in the UK so you may be able to fill Up to the middle. this with cheap nighttime electricity and then fill it with sauce during the winter, so you could have a kind of winter operating regime that uses a combination of solar energy and cheap nighttime electricity and we think that functionality will come when that functionality comes of course. opens the possibility that these battery systems can be used alone, whichquickly because you would put in other people's batteries.
You're not just using Tesla batteries. I mean, that's a yes, so we consider ourselves technology agnostic. Yes, we will install it with any type of battery and as you know we think it is a technically sound option and would consider it on a case by case basis again trying to match the taps to the stop. on the profile, yes, yes, that being said, because Tesla's unit price is cheaper than its competitors, so it is in the lead when it becomes a viable option, well, that's all we have time for, Thanks so much for looking. Obviously, I'm obsessively checking my app right now.
I am getting 3.6 3.7 kilowatts of solar energy from the old panels. It's awesome so thanks for watching, please subscribe for a full load and also check out the little Patreon link below this video and as always if you've been your
