I was far from my campsite and didn't have my chainsaw handy. It's tiring to cut a large section of wood with a handsaw, so I decided to use a new one.

Instead, we'll need three small sections of wood to make a simplified version of a vertical grill. The best saw for the task is a bow saw, sometimes called a frame saw or jig saw. I already have the saw blade and now I will assemble the frame. I will use this bird cherry stick, we will cut it into three pieces: two blade holders and a spreader. It is important that the spreader is as long as a leaf. I made some finishing touches to make the DIY improvised bow saw. It looks good, so I made two cuts in the blade support pieces for the blade.

You can split the end of the blade holder piece to make a slit to accept the blade or cut it both ways worked fine, but since I had a mini saw on my multi-tool I used it on one side, then assembled the frame using joinery. mortise and tenon. You can simplify these joints by making simple butt joints, but I wanted to make a folding frame saw, so I took my time to get it right. This proven joint will reliably hold the saw frame together.

It is worth mentioning here that the hacksaw makes a very fine cut. and it produces very little wood chips it is the most economical and productive among traditional hand saws you may have noticed that I am cutting the log without supporting it and my bow saw does not get stuck in the cut this is an additional advantage of the bow saw if you had used the normal hacksaw it would have gotten stuck in the log under pressure.
It took me a while to get ready to cut the log, but now we'll move quickly. I have three thin sections of the trunk and now we will connect them. I made them with my DIY log dogs. I made them for a totally different project and I'll keep it a secret for now, but since there weren't any in use at the moment, I decided to use them for my vertical grill assembly, by the way. If you decide to make such dogs for a vertical grill, make them wider by 20 to 25 cm, it will be ideal. You will need six dogs in total.
Wider dogs will be more comfortable to use and will make the grill more stable. At the bottom we will now join 3 log sections leaving a small space in the middle and connect them with six log dogs, three at the top and three at the bottom, using the bottom log dogs. I raised the grill above the ground which will improve convection and will not burn the grass. While the fire is lit and our grill reaches the right temperature it is time to prepare our potato. I cut a raw spiral over the skewered potato. I happen to have a piece of pipe with me and I decided to use it to cut an opening for the hot dog in the potato.
I saved the potato core for a later meal, since you can't afford to waste while living in the wild for a while if you don't have a skewer, any thin stick with a hooked end would work to cook my dish of hot dog with spiral fries, all you have to do is peel off the makeshift skewer and push it through the center of the hot dog, it's important to center it. the hot dog on the skewer so that it grills evenly later, now simply slide the potato onto the skewered hot dog, the makeshift grill will have already burned red embers inside and is hot enough to grill our vertical shish kabab.

I think this is the best hot dog I have ever eaten. my life perhaps because of the beautiful surrounding scenery and my hunger after work, however, the spiral potato tasted even better with its smoky and meaty flavors, only when I finished eating did I realize that I should have discontinued some kind of meat greasy on top of the potato to have made it. even tastier and meatier.
I had some marinated meat and a plant to prepare after this shish skewer, but after eating the spiral potato, I simply took two fatty pieces of meat to cook on the spiral potato and grilled it, spread the spiral potato. evenly on the skewer and place the whole on the grill. Now you can probably see the sizzling fat running down the potato as it cooks basting it with the meat flavor, trust me, the smell of the cooking made my mouth water, it's different from the smell. of regular shish skewers cooked on traditional grills because those shish skewers dripped grease onto the coals instead of basting themselves friends, it's a shame I can't share a piece of this dish with each of you, but I hope you all can recreate it together with I would recommend you to eat this dish with fresh tomato, believe me, it is delicious and keep in mind that I couldn't let myself be biased by my hunger when I ate the second skewer because my stomach was already full with the first one.
The fault of this dish is that it can cause gluttony because it is difficult to stop eating it, which probably will not help you lose weight. Before I end this video, I wanted to mention one advantage of this grill's design: it leaves virtually no marks on the grass. I didn't burn the roots so the grass will grow back in a couple of weeks. I just wanted to show you something weird. I'm going to light the smoke, it lights up and then it starts smoking again and we can just light it again and it keeps burning. To sum up, I'm very happy with this vertical grill design, but I'm sure you can do even better than mine, for example.
