May 30, 2021
If you have been watching the tfl offroad or tfo truck channels you know that we like to make these videos that we call which truck is best for you and today I have a really mega comparison for you because I have not two but

three

trucks

here, I have a 20 21 toyota tundra trd pro also i have a new project track uh we own a tfl chevy silverado trail boss truck and then i have this the new ram rebel that one of our producers and videographers owns this is alex's truck so in this video I'm going to go through my list of each category, configurations, drivetrains, interior suspensions, tires to determine which truck is best for you, if you're looking for a good pair of headphones check out this pair from Cove.
surprise one of these three trucks is better than the rest
I have been using these. for editing tfl videos for about a month and the bluetooth works from 30 feet away, that way you can even turn on noise cancellation and tune out while working in the garage, they are super comfortable and one charge lasts up to 12 hours. meaning you can fold them up, store them in the included bag, and take your music anywhere. Plus, if you take a call while wearing them, the built-in microphone won't miss a beat. Here you have something great with noise cancellation activated, they are silent. the outside until you open them, normally these headphones are $199, but use quick code 68 and get more than 67, and that's the best deal you'll find on noise canceling headphones anytime soon and the reviews speak for themselves alone For more information, click the link in the description below.

More Interesting Facts About,

surprise one of these three trucks is better than the rest...

Each of these

trucks

are the most off-road capable versions for their respective manufacturers. This is a 2021 tundra trd pro. Every year trd pro has a special color and we see it here again for 2021. This is Luna Rock, but mechanically it is the same truck as before and is now the oldest in the segment in terms of Its underpinnings are concerned, but that doesn't mean it's not a good truck, so let's take it kind of broad. Look at the side profile. This is what they call a double cabin. I know it's very confusing, but in Toyota parlance for the tundra, this basically means it's a slightly smaller four-door cab with a longer bed option.

It's also available as a Crewmax which has four full size doors so the trd pros comes with these red springs of course it's specially tuned because they also use fox shocks and the tire as you can see here is a michelin, It is primarily a type of tire that I would call old season, not a non-super aggressive all-terrain tire for super off-road driving. We have tested trd pros off-road in the past. You can also see all these videos linked in this video. These are decent tires, but not the best trd pros. They offer a little factory suspension lift and if you can see down here, a really strong TRD aluminum skid plate and there's a couple more skid plates further up the road, so yeah, black tow hooks, I know we're going to make jokes about the tow hooks. time, but it's a little sticky here, so what I'd like to see on a proper off-road truck is a little more toughness at the front, maybe a skid plate that wraps like on the Rebel in front of the vehicle , so let's move on if you've seen a truck and no serious pavement needed.
surprise one of these three trucks is better than the rest
This is a truck we've had for about nine to ten months. We have about 13,000 miles on this truck. We know this truck very well. It hasn't let us down yet - it's a crew cab, so it's a four-door large cab with a short bed - but unlike the Toyota, the trail bus can be had in a few more configurations. You can once again choose a crew cab, which is a shorter cab with a long bed. You can choose this version, you can also choose this double cab with a longer bed so you can decide which configuration you get.
Let's look down one more time, a factory modified suspension with a two inch lift and ranch shocks, so we have fox. shocks on the toyota rancho on the silverado and the silverado has these aggressive goodyear wrangler duratrac tires uh, they're not very big, about 32 inches, very similar to the diameter of the tundra tire, actually, but this tire is a little bit larger aggressive, I love it, you know? Silverado is running this aggressive tire and let's look at the skid plate one more time. Made of steel. It starts out as plastic and a little further is steel.
Yes, the approach angle is decent. Very visible and easy to access red tow hooks, but I wish there were more. protection in the front once again when you hit something you will first hit it here and finally the ram rebel currently the trx is not on sale yet so this is currently the most off road capable ram truck in the line. As you can see this is a four door full cab, again Chevrolet has this low configuration, they have more options on the ram, you can get a shorter cab, they call it a quad, or this large crew cab with a short bed . or a long bed, so here are two configurations for the rebel,

three

configurations for the chevy and two configurations for the toyota, as for different options for body types, Chevrolet has more options, let's see below, so once Furthermore, lifting the suspension, Alex chose a steel spring. suspension uh the rebels are also offered with air springs so you can choose between air or steel suspension.
I like the steel suspension a little

better

because you can easily modify it on the road and the ram wins the tire battle. Very similar tires like the Chevy, this is a Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac, but it is taller, it has a 33 inch tall tire and in previous videos we did with this truck we also measured it, so we know it is a larger tire, very aggressive and the shock absorbers that are. using son bill stein i also have to apologize i have been mispronouncing bill stein for a couple of years sorry but it is what it is let's look under the hood okay so what is powering these beasts under the hood of the La 2021 tundra is just an engine option for now, it is a tried and true iforce v8 5.7 gas engine, it has been around for years and in fact it is one of my favorite engines because it always has power when you need it 381 horsepower, 401 lb-ft of torque and Also tried and true, it has a six-speed automatic transmission, yes, six-speed, so Toyota hasn't upgraded to an eight-speed, yes, the fuel efficiency is the worst in the group, it's the worst on paper when you look at the EPA ratings and it's not either.
Great in real life, I'll compare it to the other trucks in a second, so an engine option here, come on, this is a 5.3 liter v8 with a new 10 speed automatic transmission and this combination is the 53, actually The engine is the most popular Silverado 1500 engine, which is why we bought this truck. We wanted something that a lot of people are buying and the 10 speed was kind of new for 2020 with this engine combination so we bought that too, so far it's been bulletproof, we've done that for a long time. Full review of this truck on the tfl truck channel.
You can also check that the fuel efficiency is really good. We recently tested it on our mpg circuit. We got 20.7 mpg, which is pretty much in line with the EPA's 21 mpg highway rating. You can also get a 6.2-liter v6 or v8, so there are currently three engine options in the trail box. This is the 5.7 liter hemi with the same displacement as the Toyota engine, but of course it's the hemi that hasn't changed much in the last few years, I don't know five to seven years, 395 horsepower, 410 lbs. -ft of torque and it has an 8-speed automatic transmission and in fact the rebel is a pretty inte

rest

ing truck because you can have different engine options, you can do a v6, a 3.6 liter pentastar, you can also configure a rebel. with two wheel drive, I'm not sure how many people can understand it that way.
You can also get a diesel. Yes, the three-liter ecodiesel is also available in the Rebel, so if you want more autonomy, a longer cruise, the Rem Rebel is an option. For you, once again, three engine options, one engine in Toyota, three engine options in Chevy and three right here. We tested this engine on the fuel efficiency circuit when we had the long-term Red Ram Rebel truck we bought and got around 17.9. MPG around 18 highway, so it has a higher EPA rating, but we never saw that in real life, which is a little disappointing. Now let's switch to payload and towing.
Yes, these are off-road trucks, but it's important to have capacity because these trucks I have to do everything, not just one thing on the tundra trd pro here, crew cab, four-wheel drive, obviously, just over thirteen hundred pounds of cargo total payload and ninety nine hundred pounds of maximum towing, in fact, of all three of these trucks, it's in the middle in towing and lowest payload and I'll explain that a little more right now, by the way, all of these trucks have over 50,000 At the end of the video, I'll tell you the exact prices of all of these trucks the way you look here and I'll tell you my favorite: The trail bus here has over 16,000 pounds of total payload with a crew cab and all-wheel drive. on all four wheels.
Everything you see here has the best payload of these three trucks and has the lowest towing at 9,500 pounds, so yes, you're giving up something, you're giving up payload on the tundra with a special suspension, you're giving up a little tow right here on the trail, boss Alex just lined the bed, see how shiny that is? That's cool, the other trucks already come with bed liners from the factory. You can also, of course, order the Rebel with a bed liner, but Alex didn't do that anyway. I'm digressing. This truck has just over 1,400 pounds of total payload so it's in the middle and over 11,000 pounds of towing yes there's a problem although the tundra has the largest fuel tank at 38 gallons it's the largest in the half-ton truck segment, you can go long distances even if you don't have very good fuel efficiency. you have a lot of volume on the trail bus you only have 24 gallons here you can set it up to about 33 gallons okay let's look at the interiors and the interior features yes the tundra is the older design truck but still you know?
A wireless key to open and close. It has a start button. Let's start the engine. Toyota has updated the tundra several times to give it a slightly fresher look. The latest technologies. It has adaptive cruise lane departure warning. it has some of those systems, the tundra has always seemed comfortable to me, it has big seats, it has lots of trd pro stitching and logos everywhere including the floor mats, it has a traditional console mounted shifter, it doesn't have wireless charging, this one truck in particular, but it has a gigantic gigantic center console it's huge, you can put like four laptops in there, uh, three cup holders, map pockets, knickknacks, everything is great, great driving position, telescoping steering wheel, I can get very comfortable, really soft steering wheel, I like it, yes some of the other materials are a little bit sticky but I have navigation here climate control automatic climate and the four wheel drive controller is right here next to my right knee.
You can go from two-wheel drive to four high and four low, of course, you have to be in neutral for that, um, the truck. is screaming at me that there are no selectable lockers on the tundra it's more of a limited slip system uh this truck doesn't offer anything fancy like crawl control systems but it's still very very capable even with these factory tires that give you we have shown, but wait. There is more. I really wanted to show you this crew cab configuration in the tundra. I'm sitting behind me. I'm just over 6'2 and my knees touch a little, but it's actually not that bad, so if not.
I don't always haul like five or four people, but you need more room in the bed, maybe you're building an overland truck. I think this is a really good setup as far as you can put more stuff in the back and not as many people. Here, welcome to the trail bus. If you've been watching our channels, you're probably already very familiar with this interior. This is a trailbox lt, which means it's kind of a high-end finish as far as the overall interior design. I really like it. Functionality, the buttons, the knobs, but it's a little darker even than the tundra.
The tundra has a little more money to break down some of these plastics. It's not a bad interior in terms of seats, I kind of like tundras. a little bit more, they're a little bit wider, I feel a little bit more comfortable, but the console here is also very big, you basically have three places or maybe two big cup holders here, two glove boxesversus one in the tundra, a very large eight-inch screen, right? Here this does not have adaptive cruise control, however, I'm not sure why GM is doing this. They are very selective in which trucks and in which years they are implementing their adaptive cruise systems, but it has everything else, heated seats, heated steering wheel. let me adjust the steering wheel yeah I kind of like the tundra steering wheel because it's a little thicker and a little softer for this new generation of Chevrolet truck put the four wheel drive controls on and all the modes and lights here lit.
The left and this vertical orientation also have automated four-wheel drive, which means it is a rear-wheel drive platform, but it can automatically transfer power to the front axle when it detects slipping, so it's almost like a four-wheel drive Of course, there are four high. four low and then two high so you can select between them. You also have your Touhou mode selector. I'm not in love with this system here. Sometimes it is not very intuitive. I always have to click left to tow and for some reason. when I have to go off the road I just have to right click it's kind of a personal preference finally the rebel ram you've probably heard me say this before but this truck has one of the nicest interiors it's comfortable it's big it's pretty it's luxurious You'll get a 12 inch infotainment screen of course you'll get everything else it's still telescoping wheel let me start the engine oh yeah that hemi sounds good and I love the functionality of the ram um so it has several different levels of center console it has a sliding cup holder right here with bottom storage it has a wireless charging system it has cubbies it has many usb c chargers and others it has two glove compartments the steering wheel is very nice leather wrapped huge gauges big screen uh yeah this interior is a little darker too but you can configure it with red details, while in the chevy you can no longer configure it completely.
You have the hill descent control system axle lock. Yes, it has a selectable locker. Here everything is on the right side. You don't have to look in different places. so I love this, the best of course, I promised you the exact price of these three trucks and my favorite, while the tundra is about 51 200, the silverado is about 55 thousand dollars and the ram is 56 000. Which it's my favorite? I'm going to choose. the toyota tundra crd pro i love the suspension setup with fox shocks it's amazing it's comfortable on and off the road i love the big v8 on this truck and with a little bigger tire i think it could be an ultimate overland rig and like always Come back to tfiltruck.com for more real-world trucking news and reviews.
