flush, it becomes very easy. You hope to hit that mid-iron out of the fairway because you know you're going to hit a good one and most of

your

playing partners will struggle. hitting those shots now I've put together three of my all time best videos that will share with you some of those real secrets hitting crispy

irons

come on and let's get

start

ed right so I'm very excited I have an awesome video for you today we're going to talk about how you can go out on the course, step over one of those iron shots, and be absolutely confident that you're going to hit the ball firmly and not break it. you're not going to thin the ball you're not going to hit it to the right to the left you're going to make that really clean, crisp contact we're going to go over three of the most important things to do that and it all

start

s with covering the ball so let's jump right into it.

That, let's talk about how you can cover that golf ball and really compress it. Now let's dive into how we cover the golf ball and first let me talk about what. The wrong way to do this is what would be a flip or a scoop and I think a lot of times people misunderstand that they think you're trying to flip or scoop to get the ball up in the air, so if I'm throwing this golf ball. or my hands move a lot, what I discovered is that this is an effort to gain power, so we're going to talk about how to be powerful without moving that, but if I move one here, you'll see my hands move.

The hands are tilted back and that makes it very difficult to hit the ball hard, so I tried to hit it hard, but I picked it up a little bit, I picked it up clean off the ground, a little thinner, I was a good 20 meters away. the green and it didn't really have that compression that I really want there, it feels more powerful because I'm pushing my wrist towards the golf ball or I'm pushing my wrist which would be this way towards the target it feels. something like that should speed up the club head, but that's actually not the right way to speed up the club head.

By covering the golf ball, we can cause the club head to accelerate under its own power to actually break through the contact and make golf much easier. So the first move, let's go over that again here. If I'm turning, I take my right palm, my right hand, and push it toward the target. If you look at the muscles on the inside of your forearm, those are flexing. Have you push your hand towards the target many times, also when that hand pushes forward I run out of space here and my arms will start to turn into chicken wings or my left elbow will bend as I go into the follow through which is from over there.

Pushing type move now again, like I said, looks powerful. I'm using a lot more muscle power here, but I'm not creating the acceleration that I want in the club head now if we cover the golf ball and all that means is you can. Think of the loft of the face of this club in a dress as if it were in heaven, what you will feel is that you are lowering this loft and you are going to cover that loft on top of the golf ball. So if I look at this from a dress, I feel like this is the feeling I have in my mind, is that I'm covering and I'm taking this golf club and covering it on top of the golf ball like that.
That's a feeling again, it's not exactly what's happening, but that's the feeling that you're also going to feel like your right hand, your right palm, instead of turning over, it's going to feel like the right palm of your hand is covering the part. top of that golf ball too, so I. I'm really understanding my body, my hand, you'll notice my posture is on top of that golf ball. I'm not standing outside the shot like this, everything is covering on top of that, so it's the clubface that covers it, it's the right thing to do. palm covering it and it's the fact that I'm still in my stance covering the top of the golf ball, which is where the term covering the golf ball comes from,

compressing

the golf ball, really you know, almost like taking off the club. , so why how could that? creates a lot of speed, it doesn't look like it's going to be very powerful, it looks like it should be more powerful to really swing that club over there, this really happens because when you're in this coverage type position, you're actually Still releasing the club, the club it's on its way to coming loose, but it's the fact that you still have this front axle rail that allows you to get past that stick, so if I can imagine it, let me take a stick that has the front axle supported. and let me pull the butt towards this grip, look what happens to the head of the club, it really accelerates through there, a very small amount of force on the button of this club can cause the club to accelerate in the only way way I can do it.
That, however, is having some lag and forward axis lean as I start to go down, so here, as I start my descent, there are a couple of things I want you to feel number one. I want you to feel like your right wrist has bent backwards. Really leaning back number two and this is very important. I want you to feel like you are swinging from the inside out or to the right. I almost feel like when you're swinging this stick, if I'm on camera, here I am swinging. the club this way about 45 degrees to the right as I open my body, that will allow the club to square up properly, so the first two pieces of the wrist back swing to the right and then number three, I still want to release this. golf club, but I want to release it in front of this golf ball, so if I put a golf ball more or less below my target line here, let's say four or five feet in front, I'm imagining going from this covered position to release it. that golf ball and now I've gotten rid of all these wrist angles up here that allow me to get this compression on the golf ball on contact and still release it for speed.
Now let's put those pieces together in the first two repetitions. I want you to do five or six of these as you practice, just focus on the right wrist, the right wrist stays behind and I'm going to feel like I keep my body rotating until I get to a good finish to accelerate. all the way, so here I'm really going to feel like my right wrist is back, that club is covering the top and I'm going to accelerate to a good full end position, let's see if we can get a good position here. there we go, that one's right on the flag, probably just 10 feet to the right of the flag, hit it nice and solid, so again right wrist is back.
I'm still gaining speed because naturally I'm going to let go in front of the flag. The second five or ten reps that I want you to do here we're going to focus on that in-out motion that we mentioned, so if we start to get to the top and we feel like we have this big lag angle, I'm going to start. Cut it so it's nice, shallow and thin and lift the ball cleanly off the ground. I need to feel like I'm swinging to the right. It's only when my body opens up and you can see my hips. start opening that's going to square that up to where I'm swinging towards the target, a lot of players keep their hips square and hit it with their hands and arms with their wrists, that's not what we want to do, we want to have body momentum which we'll talk about in a moment takes you there, so the feeling when I swing to the right and how my body opens up, that actually fits me going towards the target, so this A little second, five repetitions or so to feel a little more comfortable with your right wrist back, you swing to the right and you're going to let your initial body square everything, so let's go ahead and try that, let's go for another good one just to the left of the flag, in actually hit it too good, that's going to be a little long, yeah, about 10 or 15 feet past the flag, now from there, let's go to the last piece here, this one drops in front, which is the last key to covering the golf ball now, if I cover this golf ball again, the misconception that a lot of players have is that they're going to get this wrist angle here, I'm going to be down and then I'm just going to keep all that at bay if I do that I lose tons of speed.
I need to release this golf club towards the golf ball in front of me, so I'm going to have these same ideas, these same sensations, wrists back swinging to the right, but when I go ahead and swing. I'm going to move forward and let it all release. Everything is coming out in front of this golf ball. I'm going to let all that energy out of the club release into the target and that's also what keeps it really square. As you go over that nice square face, slide through the golf ball and head toward the target, that's going to make things a lot easier.
If I feel like I'm holding it back, it will open, I'll block it. A lot of bad things are going to happen to the right, so I have to go ahead and release the club head while I make this swing, let's take a swing, here we go, another nice one on the green, just a little walk from the flag, so they're really going to help you with what's called covering or

compressing

the golf ball, those three areas that are there, which is just the first piece. I have some other great tips that will help you develop this and improve your game. even more consistent, okay, so that's the cover of the golf ball that's really going to help get those really good wrist angles.
Now let's talk about how we can get a lot of that, you know, feeling like you're pushing again, turning and shoveling. the arms do all the work, how can we escape from that and get the momentum coming from the body? There is actually a fairly common mistake that leads us to our second key, which is whether we are going to be a very good iron player. We have to let the body create the momentum and then the arms just add a little bit of speed to it, so to get that momentum from the lower body, the body has to continue to rotate during the shot.
Earlier in this video I mentioned that if we want to cover this golf ball, it's the tilted forged shaft of the club that's actually going to release past the golf ball, that's completely fine, that's what we want, it's this right wrist At the moment of impact you are sort of angled backwards, feeling like your palm is covering you. the golf ball and then that's released after impact and then thirdly, I mentioned that your upper body or your stance has to be down a little bit where your upper body feels like it's on top of this golf ball, which will help you get that feeling of covering that now what most players do and make a mistake is when they hit this iron shot they tend to let their hips come forward, the top of your body goes up and back and now all of a sudden if I had this movement covered to really tilt the front axis I wouldn't be able to reach the golf ball properly if I was covered I would be here but if I get up and out of my stance suddenly I can't reach the golf ball, so what do I do to solve this problem?
I start to turn and serve like we talked about, we don't want to do before and that creates all that bad contact, so if we want to get the body momentum, there are two things we have to do. This happens here, we have to get it in a position where I can be down and cover it and stay in my stance, but still have everything moving. That's where the big key comes in for many players trying to cover the golf ball. What they'll do is stay down in their stance but then they'll just stay down there forever so it ends up being all arms, it doesn't work and it feels terrible.
What we really want to happen here is as I start my descent, if you imagine my belt buckle, there's a laser shooting from there when I start my descent, I want it to come down toward the golf ball, so my hips are down. , towards the golf ball, my chest is down towards the golf ball, but then when I finish my swing, all that appears is my belt buckle facing the target. My chest is nice and high. If I had a laser shooting from the buttons on my shirt, it would be nice and loud here and me.
I get all the way around my chin, it's even nice and high, which allows me to complete the swing and that's when I really have extension, early extension as many people call it or what would be the opposite of covering the ball. Golf. When my upper body extends early, extends in the downswing as I come in towards the golf ball, the proper extension or back extension would be that I am coming down covering the golf ball and then extending up as I reach. I advance in the fall. The nice thing about this is that it relates exactly to what we talked about when we take this button on the club and let it go through the ball if I have a bunch of this lag and now I'm in my stance as I extend.
Above, I'm taking this grip and I'm lifting it up, which allows the club to move forward with a ton of momentum. now i can usethe impulse of my body. Now I can use my hips and the big muscles in my body to get that stick up there, so let's try this. Do another five or ten reps for me as you begin your descent. Sit all the way down until your left arm is about halfway down. I feel like everything is getting closer to the ground. My belt buckle is going down my chest. it's down, everything's down, I feel like I'm really going to be close to this ball covering it and then when you're done, we're going to pause that position a few times, so go back to your setup pause and fill that position. and then when I'm done, I let it all go now, my belt buckle is up, my chest is up, my chin is up and I'm getting into that nice full final position, five or ten of those just pause at each pause piece. here and then pause on the full finish, you're going to start to develop that muscle memory and what you're going to feel, the feeling I get is almost like my body is doing a lot of the driving and the club is just swinging along. along my stick and arms. just swinging with our body momentum like we talked about at the beginning, those hands swinging to the right as my body momentum opens up, that squares the face and makes this club really work with us instead of against us, like that. let's try it again.
First I start my descent, I feel my chest get closer to the ground and then I get to that good finish, let's try it, see if I can cover this one and really let the club release in front of this golf ball. very good, nice and solid, we definitely covered it, you can see how I stayed in my stance, so we cover piece number one, we have to cover the ball, we really compress it, piece number two, we have to create momentum from the body using those hips and really getting to that nice full finish and piece number three, we've got to make sure we're shallow and we don't slice this golf ball if we start to start a descent with our butt towards the club, imagine there's a laser pointing Since this is pointing inside the golf ball now all of a sudden I'm going to cut this or again if I feel like I'm starting to go down very abruptly what's natural I bet you're a really good athlete and you do this without even having to think about it, you start down a little steep and then shallow, you let your hips come forward, you let your body go back, and then all of a sudden you twist a little to stay steady.
After we hit this golf club into the ground, what we need to do now is get that club down, so if I was swinging here and I stopped again in the first half of my downswing, I want the butt. inside that club to aim, whether we're looking from the line towards the golf ball or a little bit outside of the golf ball, so now again, as I reach across that club, it comes in handy for the flat line and I can move through there make the stick come loose in front without having to deepen it if I start going down again if I try to cover it bam I'm crashing into the ground so what are you going to do naturally if you start to go down?
You're going to get up and you're going to spin so that all these things come together. Now you remember in the first part of this video I talked about how you want to have the feeling that you are swinging towards Good, this is really going to match what I'm going to talk about here. I want to feel like that club is shallow and it feels like it's turning to the right, so if I stop halfway and I didn't open my body at all my body was square I want to feel like I'm in a position where I could to swing this way, that club would be very shallow here I'm moving away from the inside, the only thing that is square that is now when my body turns, that brings that club and allows it to pass, so if you imagine, if I weight this stick on the inside and open my body, look how that really moves the stick forward.
I'm just opening my body and the momentum of the club wants me to pass from a shallow, shallow position. What I don't want to do here if it was steep and I opened my body, look what's going to happen, that stick is going to really want to get stuck under it, really cut, it's almost going to want to hit me. I'm working against the momentum of the club. If I'm superficial, I can open up and work with the momentum of the club, so here I want you to do it. take a couple of practice swings, pause halfway through and really feel like before you open your hips you're setting up the swing towards this golf bag here, I'm just going to swing to the right like this if that's the case. hitting a golf ball doing that without opening my body would look like this, I think I probably hit that ball into water at almost 30 45 degrees, right, that's because I didn't let the momentum of my body open everything up.
I'm going to make the same swing now, but I'm going to go ahead and open my hips and that will throw everything towards the target, that's a really important key. Look at all the players on the Tour, look at their bodies in contact. You won't see anyone in this position on the PGA Tour. You're going to see a lot of guys opening their hips at contact and really finishing that swing by coming back to the left, so the third key here is you're going to feel like the butt half of your club is pointing to the right and you're going to feel like that club is nice and shallow, then you let your body open to square your face, let's give it a spin, here we go.
It could be the best of any of them, so let's recap these really good keys number one: we want to cover the ball passing from my right wrist, the clubface and my body, all on top of the golf ball, the big one. The key is that I can't maintain this angle forever. I have to release that club after contact. I don't want to turn this way. I want to feel like that club is swinging to the right and my right hand is covering the top. of golf ball number two we have to use the momentum of the body if I stop my momentum and I still feel like everything is towards the ground I will never get out of it I will have to use all my hands and arms naturally you are not going to do that, what are you going to do is extend early and start flipping, doing that, we don't want to do that, we have to make sure we get that good squat, everything will stay covered on top. of the golf ball, but then when we get to the end, we really let the belt buckle the chest, the chin, everything goes up and again, that's going to drive this club, let the club do the work for you, then number three, we can It won't be steep if I start down and I feel like the shaft of my club is steep like this as I open it, that's going to put me in a terrible position.
I need to feel like I'm sinking, swinging to the right and then leaving my initial body bring the club towards the target, if we make those three pieces, we'll put them all together, we'll hit those nice, crisp, clean golf shots and you'll feel very, very sure when you do it. sitting on top of your iron shots, hey guys, it's great to have you here and today we're going to talk about how to make these irons really pure and one of the biggest problems I see with solid contact is basically stopping the body and throwing. With ball hands, we all struggle with it, but many times we don't know what exactly we are supposed to do to fix this problem and get that great front rail for the club to release in front of the golf. ball, how do we make that happen?
That's exactly what we're going to go over in this video. First let me show you one that would be a bad iron swing where I basically stop my body if you look at tour players when they come into contact their hips will be at least 45 degrees open somewhere in that ballpark right around there, the shoulders will be square or slightly open if I really look at my shoulders square so if I look at myself my shoulders appear to be square which should probably be pretty close in this camera angle my left shoulder is very spread out there so if I'm looking From this face on the camera, my left shoulder is extended if I take my left shoulder back and look towards where my rib is.
Cage is aiming, he's actually also aiming in front of the golf ball and this all goes into what we call a straight line release, so as I release this club, I want it to release in front of this golf ball. I've forged the shaft rail on contact, I release that club in front and the way I can do this is by opening my hips and my shoulders as I make contact, you can imagine like I'm going to take a plank and just throw it to the right . down the street, so if I grab an iron, I'm going to open it as far as my hips and shoulders open.
I'm just going to throw this iron down the street just like that, I probably wouldn't recommend doing that, you might break yourself. a club, but that's a feeling you get when you open your body and let the club release in front of the golf ball, it just gets in the way, that's all that's happening, so how do I do that and what does it look like when I'm there? not doing it correctly, the wrong swing will be when my hips and shoulders are more oriented towards the ball, the only way to keep the club moving forward from there number one, I won't be able to get the front shaft rail and number two, I have to push my arm , my club, through my body so that my body no longer leads the way, if I keep pushing that club, I can bend my left arm, that's where the chicken wing comes from, so if you're a chicken wing, that's what what happens is the body is slowing down, you're pushing the club through your body or number two, if I try to get there, if I don't get the front axle rail, I'm not even worried about being able to go ahead and flip the club. and now my club comes up very quickly and I have that negative shaft rail, the club almost leans back upon contact, so that's the good way, the bad way.
Now let's talk about what feeling I want to have if I'm going to do it. this correctly, so I like to start by just throwing some golf balls. This works for iron swings. Works for driver swings. Even throwing. If I'm going to hit a golf ball down the fairway. If only I ask you to launch one this way. The first thing you're going to do is open your body and you're just going to throw it in that direction. Everyone throws the ball the same way they let their body open up and just let it fly up the middle.
I threw three. of those balls are all a couple feet away now, what would happen the other way around, the wrong way, that's the right way, let the body open, swing that club for the fairway ball, it just gets in the way the way, the wrong way would I be? stay closed, concentrate a lot on trying to hit this golf ball, I keep my body closed and now I'm doing that and I'm trying to throw the club or throw the ball through my body, it's not going to be very powerful when that happens, so make a good 15 or 20, even if they look a little ridiculous, sit in your living room and throw them on the couch if you have to, but get used to opening that body up, the second piece now is, come on.
Go ahead and do the same with our stick. I want you to grab one again. You can do it from your living room. Let's make some smooth, fluid swings to practice, getting that same feeling of hitting the ball down the fairway, when that happens a lot. Ask me how I know how many of these I'm supposed to get right. Keep doing them until you feel comfortable. As soon as you feel comfortable, you are ready to move on to the next piece. This last piece will be. Coming down to where we are on the golf course, now what I want you to do is start with some soft shots, about nine or three shots, I'm going to switch to my iron that I'm using for this video, this is called voice caddy swing caddy 2.
So people ask me all the time when I use video. It's a pretty inexpensive radar, very accurate at getting club head speed and ball speed, and it's great, so I have it here today. Put a link below in the description. I always get asked where you can buy this stuff, but I'll put it in the description below this video if you guys are interested in that and let's go ahead and put this to the test. We've opened the body, we've practiced doing it with a swing now, how do we do this in a real golf swing?
Let's go ahead and do a half swing back and then from there I want you to really exaggerate to get that body open. Now there are a few key checkpoints when you're watching your video, so if you're recording your swing and you're checking that, I want to look at the most obvious ones first, which are my left or my right heel lifts off the ground a little bit if this heel stay down, watch my hips, if I let my heel come up, my hips open up as I put the heel close to my hips, so that will be the first checkpoint where the right heel comes. a little bit off the ground at contact, your hips will be open and the last part of this, your right arm has to be bent a little bit more, so if I'm throwing the club, what I'm doing is extending it. arm and I'm throwing the club with my right arm.
Notice how my elbow is completely locked out and that club is leaning back a little bit. If I understand this, you will see thatmy hips are also closed as I twist to open the. I get more open with my body, look how this arm stays a little more bent now that I'm a little closer to the ground towards the ball, that's also where you can tilt the shaft forward. You also notice how my left arm feels. across my chest like this, if my left arm is here next to my chest, then what I'm doing is I'm not opening, I'm staying square and I'm pushing the stick which is that chicken wing when you chicken wings chicken.
Left arm sticking out from chest, so left arm against chest, right arm a little bent, practice a few more moves when you get to the driving range, practice that feeling like you're brushing the grass as you do it again. The checkpoints are the right heel, it lifts off the ground, the hips are open, the left arm is across the chest, the right arm is bent a little bit and that's when you're going to get the front axle rail. From here we have these key control points. Practice changes done, let's go ahead and do a little half swing back and I really feel like we accelerate through this shot, here we go.
I feel like I really opened up on that one. My radar said 88 miles per hour club head speed. I know it was probably a little more than halfway back, but I really wanted to. exaggerate on these short swings, opening up more and more, so I'm going to try to swing a little faster than that, this time I'm going to back off a little more and again, I'm really going to exaggerate the opening and accelerating through that golf ball, so a little more than a half swing back on this one, there we go, that felt really good, great acceleration to 96 miles per hour, club head speed and finally the reason I'm starting Slow here is what I want to get to.
I feel comfortable with slower swings and then I can develop a longer and longer swing, so I start working on these positions slowly, gradually getting longer with more club head speed, finally here the last one, let's see if we can get that seven iron get close to 100. miles per hour, hp club, that would be pretty good. I think the pj tour average is low, about 90, so it would be really nice if I could get this body to really open up and accelerate there with a good front axle length that's as good as I'm going to do it, I don't know if did i make it or not, yes 101, very good club head speed again, that voice cart also very nice, they sent me these.
I've tried a lot, there's a great little device to work on your clubhead speed based on your swing, so work on that drill from slow to fast, hit those key control points, man, you're really going to compress the ball. Golf. I have a pitching wedge here with a 150 yard marker and I'm going to talk about one. One of the most powerful

drills

you can do to get the most distance possible with your irons, it's actually very counterintuitive. I'm going to feel like I hit my stick on the ground, where this orange stick is going and then I go. to rotate like the

pros

do and I can reach incredible distance.
I can't wait to share it with you because I know it will be one of the best iron

drills

you will ever see, let's give it a tour, let's hit that good one that has my flight range x3 radar what do we see with the distance there 157.5 so 157 yards of the pitching wedge? I can't wait to show you how to get that same kind of power in your swing, well let's talk about one of the things that I see that kills everyone's swing speed with their irons and what happens here is we turn off our body, we don't have a lot of rotation through the shot, I see almost all players do it.
This then the hands and arms have to take control and turn and push the club further away from your body. Ideally what we would have is tons of lag, we actually load the club up and then swing through the ball as fast as we can and as that lag is released it will release in front of the golf ball that receives the whip from the lag pitch that lags the shot, causing that club to whip through contact and also giving you full power. from your robot body spinning, let me go ahead and guide you through an intuitive or counterintuitive exercise that will actually get you these right feelings.
I promise you've probably never seen this before and it's definitely not something you would have come for. It was always surprising when I first saw this exercise, so this is a Harry Varden exercise from a long time ago. You know, I don't know what it would be like in the late 1800s and early 1900s when Varden came on the scene. In a couple of his books, I've seen this exercise mentioned several times online, but it's a really great exercise. Basically what you would do is you would set up the normal golf ball stance with the normal golf ball stance and then you would kind of put the club down. the target line where I'm hitting the golf ball through the center of my feet is going to be about where the center of this would be and then I'm going to put another club pointing towards the golf ball now The angle of this club is not matters a lot, it could be that you know this angle, it could be that angle, it's just a general idea of what you want to do when you make this swing, now what I'm going to do.
What I'm feeling here is that I'm going to feel that as I make my downward movement, my body is going to rotate open. I'm letting my body go forward, but I feel like I'm hitting my club, my club and my arms down like in line. Up with this orange stick, so I hit my arms down and I'm spinning and that's what squares it. Now that's a great way to fill this out. If you have a hit bag, you can see how powerful it is if I set it up. This impact bag is at the intersection of that and now when I get ready to do this drill again, I'm going to feel my hands and arms as I swing or just hit this club on the ground as hard as I can.
Actually, don't put the zipper on your impact bag, you could break your impact bag because that's how powerful your arms are. I mean, I think that's how you cut wood. You would have crazy clubhead speed if you just hit. This club comes down as fast as you can, but that's the feeling we're going to have here, going to the top and then I'm trying to line that club up with that orange club on the ground and just hit it as hard as I can. on the ground, I guarantee you could swing much faster than in a golf swing.
When I do it now, once I've done it, let's say 10 to 15 times and you get familiar with it, I mean, you can hear the pop. By that I mean it has real power when you move like that. Why can't we do that in a golf swing? Well, we can do that. The only difference between that exercise and the golf swing is the rotation of the body, so when I start. to hit my hands and arms down at the same time I open my body as my body opens now that puts the club face through the target so here if I were to keep my body closed like I said it's A big problem with for most golfers, hitting the club into the ground.
I'm going to hit with a club back here, but when I open my body, look how that moves the club forward, puts it flat, and now I can hit shots down the middle. the green, so again I'm going to hit this into the ground and rotate it as hard as I can while I do this, there we go, another good shot, just a little bit to left center, I hit that one a little bit off the toe, but not. bad that's going to be over 140 yards probably with a throwing wedge not bad for a slightly missed shot so let's talk about a couple of keys here that are really important when you're doing this drill number one when you're throwing the feel you have a good amount of lag, so what I mean by this is that when I swing this club down, I want to feel that sharp angle like I'm going to chop through a piece of wood with an axe. movement, I'm letting the head hang back and just letting it fly at the bottom of the swing, so I'm not doing this and to be honest, I wouldn't see anyone doing that if they just let themselves naturally try to hit. this club, but it really gives you that feeling of tons of lag, I mean, it makes it very easy to use, I just swing freely and that ball is going to have a lot of speed just because my club is so lagged, I mean, it feels Really very tight, tons and tons of lag when I do this drill, so as you can see on the camera, very sharp angle with the hands and arms and again, those are pretty hard number two throwing wedges once you start adding aperture and rotation.
Over there, this is a big key for almost every golfer I see because when you start to turn, which happens with most people, oh, the club comes out, I'm cutting the ball this way, I'm coming down too steep. . over the top as soon as I open my body I'm going up over the top that's where this inside swing comes from the more I go in the more I can turn to open now while you turn to open when you feel like this your left arm is like tight on your chest yeah my hips my shoulders my body stops and I'm pushing there look how I get the chicken wing my body my arm flies off my body I don't want to do that that's me Stopping my body and feeling like I'm pushing with my hands and arms , there is a big separation here, if I do this the right way, when I open my body I feel like I have put my hand between the armpit and the bicep of my left arm and my my pectoral my left arm in my armpits and my fingers in my armpit they would be so tight so connected that I couldn't even get my hand out of there it should feel really tight there where you are now super connected that's going to help you hit a lot straighter when you do this too so again you see how my arm doesn't come out flying off my body I don't get a chicken wing when I do this here we go and you see how I turn completely during the shot.
That's a lot because I'm running through the ball. I'm opening up. I don't have to worry. I can open it as much as I want because the stick is inside. Following line now number three, what happens if I hit too far behind the golf ball too many times? Come on and get rid of these sticks. You get the idea of the drill a lot of times when you start going more from the inside that makes you want to hit behind this golf ball, the piece we just talked about will help you with that, if I hit that hard and spin all to open it, that will see me again grinding back here, which brings the club forward and I bring my divot in front of the golf ball every time if I closed my eyes I could still hit that divot in front of the ball without even looking at the ball of golf, it's just the natural impulse of my body that carries it out. front number two, I want to feel like I have a little bit of a weight shift while I'm doing it, so now when I open up, everything will be in front of the golf ball, my divot will be in front of the golf. ball, so as you do this weight to the left and again focus on pinching that arm as you swing, that will make your divot come out in front of this golf ball every time, so feel like you're starting your transition even though When you're Throwing back here, your body opens and goes up here, so it's two types of counterattacks or two types of opposite poles, one your arms throw here and your body opens there when you put them together, that's what get that slingshot.
Approach to this exercise, so let's go ahead and hit it one more time. Let's look at how the divot will look in front of the golf ball. There we go, and that was a really long one, maybe one of the longest I've ever hit because it was nice. and solid that one went all the way to the back of the green what was the distance on that cue oh 160 1.2 that's the longest one there so I'm telling you if you do this drill you'll be able to maybe not hit the 160 yard pitching wedges but I bet that you will reach them 10, maybe 15 yards farther than you are now.
Now, a preview of something I didn't quite get right here, but I think it's a really cool side. The effect of this every time you open your body, so if I turn my body to open it, notice how that makes my hands more in front of this golf ball when I rotate my body to open it that way, my hands go to lead and I'm actually Taking a little bit of loft from this club will give me more ball speed and give me more distance. I'm even going to exaggerate that here and you'll see how my hands are leading the way through contact there. come on and I see I hit that one really hard but I took some loft out of it and again that one is going to be towards the back of the green, probably mid 150 in the flight there, but it wasn't because I was flipping.
This secret type of opening and that got my hands going forward, so follow that key and I guarantee you're going to hit some of your furthest iron shots. Here's the cool thing about this that I talked about at the end is when I open my body, it's a lot easier to put my hands in front now there's a different focus that you have when you do this, inYou really want to focus on hitting in front of the golf ball, that's what we call a straight line shot. the top speed golf system, which means that every time I open my body, my club falls behind.
I hit this golf ball and my club doesn't let go until everything is pointing straight ahead. I'm going to play a preview of one of my best fastballs. Line toss videos will help you become more familiar with that idea if you link it to what we do with our drill here, it will become automatic, it will rotate through the shot you release in front of it and the golf ball just goes into the line this way. , every time I will play a preview, here in a second, click on the card that appears on your screen. If you don't see that card, don't worry, just click the link below in the description and you'll get instant access.
I can't wait to see you in the straight line launch video. Let's go ahead and get started right now. A common mistake I see is that we want to create a lag and we just want to hold that lag all the way through contact and get as much lag as we can through contact and that's simply not true, in the release section we're going to talk about how to convert that lag into energy, how to convert that into speed so you can hit it really far and do it like we mentioned with hardly any effort and as we come into contact, we're going to completely release this angle since we're about 45 away from contact, so that if I draw, you know, a 45 degree angle, I should look at both arms.
Nice and straight, the club splits those arms, so when you release the club getting this angle to release as we come into contact, that's what it's going to do. It creates the speed our hands move a very short distance our club moves a very long distance through contact and creates that whip effect very different swings hitting the exact same position so first let's take a look at Dustin Johnson releasing the last 45 club and the reason we're going to see such changes similar or so different producing similar positions is that this is the real physics of how this has to happen here we are looking at sergio garcía again we will see you
