Someone tried to CUT THIS MACBOOK IN HALF, can I repair it?

Jun 07, 2021
So today's video is a little different in many ways, it's very similar, it involves me

repair

ing a

macbook

and it's sponsored by ifixit, one of my favorite companies to work for, but in other ways

this

macbook

is unlike anything you've ever seen. seen before. I'm really curious to see what

this

thing actually looks like so let's open it up oh no oh no oh my god how does this happen? Why would anyone do this? Oh my God, I have never seen anything as bad as this in my life. I can see them, I can see you through the screen.

I bought this hoping to fix it, but look at the shape. I don't know how much I can do about it. Now it seems that whoever was watching this. They didn't complete it completely so I don't know, maybe we can have a chance to have a decent logic board here. OMG I don't even know if it has an SSD. This is the function key model. the ssd is removable, it may be gone, but let's see if we can try to boot it. I guess the screen turned on the external display. I do not hear anything. I see nothing.

More Interesting Facts About,

someone tried to cut this macbook in half can i repair it...

Yes, there is no signal. I just heard the charging sound. The fans are coming, excuse me, how does this work? Does the keyboard work? Well, wait, this is the big test here. Does the trackpad do anything? Well, no, that's to be expected regarding the trackpad is almost completely cut in

half

, yeah and. The keyboard doesn't work either, but it booted up what it really is, yeah, the battery, there's no battery, so I'm going to unplug this thing. You got to be kidding. Someone literally took what looks like a circular saw to this thing. and it works, that's really awesome, I have to buy some parts for this thing, this is ridiculous, oh my god, okay, we're in business, folks, let's get to work come hell or high water, this thing somehow it still works, so before disassembling it, let's examine the scale of the damage on the front, you can see the size of the cut where the saw went through the screen, touch panel, top case and bottom case when opening the device, no There is nothing better, clearly the keyboard.

The platform was under a lot of stress when the device was cut and bent, which is why we are missing keys. Some of the keys don't really work. The bottom strip of glass under the screen is completely shattered. The screen has turned to dust where the saw went. through it and the trackpad hasn't fared much better it's almost completely cut in

half

this thing is absolutely annihilated so since I'm curious what you think happened to this macbook pro let me know in the comments below and of course don't forget to subscribe now let's see if we can fix this right so when we talk about fixing this obviously the big damage didn't affect the logic board and I'm pretty sure this was the case. done intentionally not by some freak accident because they definitely removed the battery otherwise the thing would have literally exploded you know if they left the battery here so this was definitely on purpose not sure why they also cut a bit the hinge here. perhaps to help bend it, the whole thing is a bit like a chipped potato and as a result I'm definitely worried about the degree of curvature on the logic board.

I imagine it won't be fun, but luckily I have the tools for the job here to fix it and I sent it for your manta screwdriver kit. This thing is a beast. You could probably build a house with this and another fun little feature I like about the ifixit screwdriver kits: there's a little tray with compartments for organization. its screws in the lid and there is a lot of room in a kit that is this big so it will definitely help. The other thing that will help is replacement parts. Now, obviously, there's not much we can do on the top box and on the screen. and the bottom case has been cut in half, so it won't be able to be reused there, so what I did was I got some spare parts and because I'm having fun, we're going to make this computer silver, it's space gray, but it is not like that. how is it going to look, I bought the silver top case mainly because it was cheaper and then I bought the rest of the silver components to match and luckily, as we saw when we started it, there is already an SSD in this so it should be like this.
Let's get into it, so with the plan in place, it was time to get to work. The first step was to remove the mangled bottom cover, which took a bit of effort. The inside of the device is a horror show. Bits of aluminum dust that came out of the bottom case have melted and the Force Touch trackpad has been completely sewn in half. You can see the copper wiring for the Taptic motor that has just been cut in two. Removing the bottom case also gives us a look at the logic board and here's how it works.
It doesn't look good so with the bottom case removed I'm definitely worried about the curvature of the logic board, particularly here on the heatsink it feels like the heat pipe has been bent so I hope that doesn't is putting a lot of pressure on the CPU. I'll be able to straighten it out, but I'm really not sure. The other thing I'm not sure about is the antenna, so it goes on the back here, screws onto the heatsink on both sides and is basically just a long plastic antenna. and it's also where the vent housing is and it's quite bent, luckily it hasn't been cut, I don't think so, I hope we can save this without having to replace it, but I want to get this logic board.
Getting out of here is a little scary so it was time to remove the board so cheers as I pulled the board out of the top box I was desperately hoping it wouldn't bend permanently however no such luck there is a nice This has a significant curvature even when removed from the computer, but putting that aside for now, it was time to move the other speaker and fan to the new top case. Next, it was time to salvage what we could of the screen assembly, so obviously the screen itself and the connector board are significantly damaged and we won't be able to use them.
However, we need the antenna and all the screws that hold this assembly together. Greetings, um, uh, um. the screen is now attached, it was time to attach the bent logic board, so this is the scary part. Look, this side of the board is set and seated and set well, but look at the other side of the board, oh boy, this. Things have been going pretty bad and I'm really nervous about the amount of pressure it will take to keep everything in place, so this is a bit stressful, so with the board clamped and everything screwed into place, it was time for the moment of truth we did it, yes it's hard to believe we went from this to this but here we are and yes it may look like a brand new computer because for the most part it is but there were actually a surprising number of components from the original .
I'm going to call this the Saw Book Pro that we were able to salvage, so number one is all the screws. None of the replacement parts I bought came with any of the screws needed to put this together, so I was able to use them all. Of them, I was also able to use these speakers both on the left and right, the fan, the SSD and even the antenna. I'm also impressed that the logic board worked considering there was a permanent bend in the actual logic board. I was a little nervous about that. You may have to replace the heatsink because it might have become warped, but now everything seems fine.
When I say it seems fine, it's because I haven't put this together for months and there is absolutely no guarantee that this won't break over time, this is definitely not a reliable way to get a working macbook and in fact while While we're talking about it, you might be wondering if this was really profitable, was it really profitable to buy a macbook that

someone

tested. Cut it in half with a table saw and then build it back into a silver MacBook Pro. Well I paid 120 for the Saw Book Pro which seems like a lot until you realize the logic board was working and they usually sell for around 400 so maybe.
It's not the worst deal, I paid one hundred and thirty dollars for the top case, I paid twenty-three dollars for the bottom case, and I paid three hundred and thirty-one dollars for the screen, so in total it was about six hundred dollars, which is exactly the retail value. for one of these things, so I basically bought one of these for an average price but with a lot more steps and a lot more uncertainty, so yeah, I wouldn't recommend it. I would also not recommend cutting your macbook in half with a table saw. That's another one I wouldn't do, but I'll tell you what I would recommend and it's the ifixit manta screwdriver kit.
I didn't even scratch the surface of this thing to

repair

a humble macbook like this, I mean they really have a lot of options to choose from with this amount of screwdriver bits, I mean it even has this thing, I don't even know what I would do with this but It's here if for some reason you want to buy a macbook that has been hacked Half ifixit is a great place to look for repair guides as well as parts and tools, so definitely check out those links in the description below. Thank you so much to them for sponsoring and OMG I can't believe this worked.
I have said it before. The face I made when I first started this definitely still rings true today just looking at this computer sitting here like nothing happened God, wait, this feels like one of those videos that will get like 50,000 views. or a million views, if you get a million comments under this timestamp and I will accept the comment, that's a deal I will make with you, so make this video a million views, then maybe

someone

will feel bad for having done this or wait maybe they would feel good because then the video turned out well and they would do it again don't do it again whoever is the owner and owner of the table saw that he cut this thing in half please stop, don't do it I recommend, I want You guys should know that I really didn't know if this computer was going to work.
I just saw the listing with that cut and thought I had to try it for $120. I must try it and lo and behold it ended up working if you have any theories on how this situation arose let me know in the comments below and also if you find any more listings where people have posted absolutely demolished macbooks please send them to me. I'd love to take a look at another one. I love this one. This type of project is a lot of fun and a little stressful at times, I admit, but anyway guys, that will do it for today's video, don't forget to like, comment and subscribe, and I'll see you in the next video .
