what's going on on youtube and as always with every car I buy I always do a buyer's

guide

so this is what you

want

to buy a

cadillac

cts-v v2 so today is sunday or the day I'm recording this Sunday and all my videos of the favorite places I shoot are largely taken now. I like going to abandoned churches and stuff so it's no big deal, I washed the car and thought I'd take it behind my house and the church traffic is a little busy right now but I hope most of the noise of the highway disappear back here, so anyway it took an act of Congress to bring this car here.

You wouldn't believe how hard it was, you kept spinning. In the end I had to pull it forward. Put it in manual mode in first gear and just leave it in automatic mode and then do a five point turn next to the truck right here, but I finally put it in a place where I think it's good. I gave this thing a little speed. cut it off because it's black this is raven black and you can't keep it clean while I was driving trying to find another place to take a video of dust and some gravel on the side of the road that got into the side of this car so I gave it a quick little lash with one of my favorite products so far, this is the McGuire Ceramic Detailer.

I like it, it's very easy to use, it doesn't stain like blue stuff, but anyway, with all that aside while I digress. Now, first of all, we will talk about these cars. Mine is a

2009

and in

2009

that's the year the v2 debuted and the only body style you can get them in was the

sedan

which is personally my favorite 2010 the truck and the cook came out and everyone went crazy so, well, I think the coupe came out of the truck, I think it came out in 11 or 12. I'm not sure because all my information will basically be on the

sedan

.

Basically just because that's what I have and that's all the research I've been doing so I'm not up to par with coupes and station wagons but honestly they're all the exact same car they have the exact same powertrain and all drive trains. Same thing, bodies, different interiors, probably a little different, especially with the chicken coop, look at all that grass on my lip, should have cleaned it up, looks like junk, but, yeah, like I said in 2009, the only body style they have these cars. in sedan and when I was doing research because they always say you never

want

to buy the first year of a new version of a car and the debut of the 2009 v2, like I said, I was a little worried, you know, hey, this is the first similar version. of v2 probably has bugs, lemons, bugs, things like that, they will be fixed later over the years and believe it or not nothing has really changed between 2009 and

2015

, I think the automatic transmission received a couple of updates and some optional features. it became standard like a backup camera and stuff, but other than that and besides the tuning and transmission, that's all bogus anyway because once you get a custom tuning that you need with an automatic transmission, the points Shift rates are much better with custom fit. that's debatable anyway, so basically there's nothing different between a 2009 car and a

2015

car, other than some similar options that make the rearview camera, you know, that's something I don't really care about, so you can buy a much cheaper 2009 than the 2015. and you basically get the exact same car, so nothing has changed, you don't get a better version of the same 2015 transmission, same drivetrain, there really isn't any update from what I've investigated now.

I mean, anyone is more than welcome to comment below and let me know if I'm spreading misinformation, but from what I've researched 2009 is just a good 2015 and I get it cheaper, so anyway the v2 is the year or I guess the body style they started factory supercharging these cars previously had a v1 and they had two engine options you had the ls6 and the ls2 and I'm trying to open a can of worms and go too far into the history of

cadillac

because this video is dedicated to the v2, but anyway those cars are the v1.
They are pretty simple apart from the different engine options and how the steering wheel controls changed between 2005 and 2006. Those cars the only option that could be added to the v1 was a sunroof now with the v2 there are different options, there are different interior options , of course you have two tone color options with interior here you had your basic tan and black color trims and of course the two tone and you had leather or suede steering wheel and chef knob options or alcantara sunroof it's optional navigation was optional there were a lot of different optional things you could add on the v2 cars to get a basic v2 car.
You know if certain features are what you're looking for, like mine, which has a panoramic sunroof and has a power sunshade. This car has navigation, of course it doesn't. It doesn't have a backup camera, but you can see it has all the sensors back there so that when you go into reverse it can tell you how close you are to something, but I think all the standard stuff on these cars like them. they all come standard with brembo brakes our electronic parking brake electronic seats all that good stuff i mean it's a cadillac at heart but the real reason people buy these cars is because of the powertrain and this car like i said is supercharged and is an lsa engine and the The lsa engine is basically an ls9 from the 01 corvette minus the forged internals.
I know that sucks so you can basically say this is the same engine as a camaro zl1. They share the same engines. The corvette, zr1, ls9 also has a larger fan. this one has a little Eaton blower, no big deal but the lsa engine is a really good engine honestly there's nothing too quirky about these engines so you have to keep an eye on the supercharger on the other hand they had some issues with the oscillator and sometimes uh. The main shaft can make a sound like a marble and a tin can, so when you go and look at one of these cars, I'll go ahead, open the hood, and show you exactly where you need to go.
Listen to it, but you can hear it, it's really audible like from outside the car, uh, that's just one issue they had with this car and the crazy thing is that GM is still recalling these superchargers for cars under 120,000 miles, it's extended warranty replacement, so you can hear the marble sound right in this general area, right there, so most people deal with that by replacing the oscillator or putting a solid oscillator in the supercharger and that eliminate that sound, but just be careful with that other than that. you know, just check the general maintenance of this thing that happens with any engine, you can't stress it enough with any car you know, just make sure it's not smoking, leaking oil, no cross contamination with coolant or oil, you don't want there may be problems with the head gasket.
I just don't want any headaches again, that's with any car, but specific to the v, just listen to that supercharger which is really the only quirk these cars have besides having minor things like the sunroof that leaks in some people's cars, the recaro seats that were an extra option that you could add to the v2 somehow, the bolts come out and they squeak and rattle, you know, that's a really minor thing, but one thing I have to say from my experience : the rear ends of these cars are much better than the v1 the v1 were known for blowing the diffs on this car, i think it's not really like they blow up, some people have wine and diffs, this car doesn't wind up or anything like that because I made sure when I drove this car like, hey, I'm coming from a v1, the rear end is what I worry about with any cadillac, so you know I'll drive it and see how it runs and there's no lines, no clunking, nothing weird like that, but for the most part, the differential problem.
It's nowhere near as extreme as this car. I've already launched this car pretty hard and I haven't had any of these non-jumping cars, I mean mine is lowered and stuff, but GM fixed all the wheel hopping issues and stuff with the v2 . Spreads explode and that's pretty much a thing of the past again. I'm not saying it's bulletproof and there haven't been cases of blown diffs because there have been, but it's much rarer, especially at stock power levels the v1 would explode. right under the bed, they were so weak, the wheel hop was so extreme, but with the v2 they pretty much fixed all that overall, the v2 is much more auto than the v1 again, like you're talking about dub with the price.
The difference, even on the second hand market, the v1s can range from nine thousand dollars to I have seen them as high as 15,000 with the 8.8 exchange, which is I'm not trying to turn anyone against the v1 if you are out. the market for ctsv in general a v1 with 8.8 swap is a good car. I love my v1, but if you have extra money, I mean obviously this car looks a lot better. The v2 looks much better in my opinion and of course you get a lot more wheels. options, you can make these cars a little more unique than a v1 with that weird six lug pattern and stuff like that, there are a lot of quirks with the v1 that I didn't really understand, but a v2 if you have the extra money, that's exactly what which I will be looking for and honestly I wanted the tr6060 six speed which in my opinion is one of the best six speeds out there as far as manuals go, second again in my opinion to the t56 magnum and myself.
I would have to rate the tr6060 a little above the t56 just because I've had problems with the t56 before but my car is a six speed automatic it's the 6l90 and it's actually been a really good transmission and like I said you want to fine tune this that way, like your paddle shifters or your paddle buttons, I should say because they're not actually paddles or shifter buttons, steering wheel shifter buttons, that's what we should call them, they could shift much faster with a good trans tuning because they are stock they are almost completely alone they are a joke they have delays of one to two seconds with each change up and down with a good tune it is not instantaneous but it does it cuts that time down a lot but There are people on the forums pushing a lot of horsepower through this transmission, it's all about trans tuning too, you know, just get a competent tuner and if you buy a modified car like mine, try to get all the documentation you can and all. tuner details, making sure what tune and tuner your car has played, that's a big deal so make sure you get that information before you buy and again know that it is always your discretion to drive the car and make sure it is Of your liking. like it's a good car just listen for any strange sounds because these cars also have problems with the control arms and shocks so if you hear any clunking or something in the front go ahead and start especially with the car with higher mileage. just go ahead and put that on your checklist, control arms and shocks, go ahead and replace them on my car, they have already been replaced.
The previous owner did all that, did all the good things and so on to this car, I'm not saying run away from a modified car, either because I prefer to buy stock cars just because when I start doing things to it I know exactly what is done to it Now with a car like mine like this one I bought, this one already had a couple of screws. And honestly, these are things I would have done myself anyway, so it's nice to buy a car, it's already been modified the way you want, so it saves you money and time and you know you're buying the car you always wanted. has done.
I wanted to get it out of the box, so like I said, this one right here, if you're buying a stock v1, you're not going to have this cover, this is the intercooler cover, right here you're going to have the silver stock, like it looks like. like stainless steel, we're also going to have a lot of plastic over the engine bay, these lines are routed in the back and you don't have n lines on a stock car, this is all like the zl1 lid, uh, n lines and accessories , and I have an aftermarket tank there for my heat exchanger, but this is just a minor bolt-on car, again, a factory, if you want to build a car from scratch that's the way to go, but little things like this Not here.
Actually, it doesn't affect the reliability much, it all depends on the tuner and the tuning of the car, but since I'm on the subject of the supercharger, one thing I forgot to mention is not only taking care of the sound and the front of the factory brick. We'll see a lot of people talking about reinforcing bricks, like you're watching ctsv ads, and what that means is that most people just buy a zl1 cap like this and reinforce the intercooler brick because it's knownthat the originals leak and when they leak they go straight through the inlet to the combustion chambers which can hydrolock the engine so make sure like I said if you are buying a stock car immediately put in a reinforced brick or make a z01 top, not much horsepower. the gains are more, this is more like cosmetic it just looks a lot better and also in my opinion it's cooler to have the lines on the front but yeah make sure the brick has been reinforced with any modified car make sure that the first thing you read is reinforced brick. solid insulator, no weird supercharger sounds that way, you can just eliminate all the crazy stuff you're going to have to worry about for this car, so like I said, the v2s are pretty much like, I don't know, GM got it right, surprisingly. they were just on the list for weird sounds or clunking noises or something but both transmission options are super solid the lsa engine overall is super solid so like i said before if the car doesn't have any of those weird sounds or weird quirks or something like that then I wouldn't hesitate at all you know with the rotten paperwork and the tune and all that if you have that on hand, that's great and again, like when I was in the market, I strictly wanted a sedan, so I wanted a silver one like originally, just because in silver you can add different wheels and put a lot of contrast on it, but I really like this murdered out perspective of this black that is growing on me and this is a raven black car.
They have a diamond black that has metallic paint or metallic flakes. Mine is like a jet black. Raven black is simply pure black. and it looks good it's hard to keep it clean oh my gosh it's hard to stay clean just shooting this video I see dust and things falling on it and sticking to it but you know once they go off and they look good they go They look amazing and You can see my reflection

walk

ing around awkwardly, but yeah, as far as major powertrain issues go, a supercharger is really the only thing you need to pay attention to and the rear line, but the smallest.
Quirks, like I said before, sunroof leaks is all information I got from forums and stuff you know, like I don't have first hand experience with these issues, but I know a few things I wish I had known before purchasing. This car like this has a lot of electronics and the v1 is more raw as you know it doesn't have too many crazy features like the electronic brake and I never knew this is electronic. I'm not a big fan of that. Honestly with you and there's a lot more, I know it's a newer car, this is the newest and best car I've ever owned, but the electronics are starting to scare me just because it's something else that can go wrong so this car has uh. this navigation screen that will pop up when you press this button here and it's something that worries me, like hey, when is it going to go wrong?
How much is it going to cost to replace it? Because I don't mind getting my hands dirty underneath. an engine compartment, but this wiring, yeah, I don't know and you know I'm not a big fan of this gray interior. It's hard to keep clean. Surprisingly, I know it doesn't look good in the videos, but I like it. The way light tones like this are really clean it's just weird the way they beat it up and people look dude your car is really dirty it's just not just the way I don't know if it's alcantara. or not, but it's just the way a lot of things hit it, like when you brush it, it makes it look darker.
This car on the automatics anyway, you can put them down, put them in manual or sport mode and it has to be in sport mode before you can put the car in any of the manual options, which allows you to go back to downshift and press up to upload changes and again, like I said, you have these buttons back here, they're not really paddles. The shift paddles are like just the buttons on the steering wheel shifter, they have a delay, all of this has a delay, but one thing is if you buy an automatic car, people will tell you that there is a uh tap tap method and I'm trying to prove it. that right now I'm going to start the car and maybe you can hear me because this thing has cutouts and I have them open because in America it's the tap tap method and I'm still trying to get used to this because I'm used to daniel, I like to just be able to put my car in second gear at 40 and just hit it, this car is a little more complicated, this is the way you're supposed to do it, put it all the way down, go down in sport mode and when you're in sport mode you can choose to downshift at any speed you want, so let's say we're going 40 miles per hour, I put it down to second gear, well, if I had to see, just for example, let's say I put it in second gear, let's say we're going 40 miles per hour. time, okay, if I were to stomp on it right now, the car will dial into second gear like a real manual, it won't shift gears on its own, it will stay in second gear and dial into red. until you use the very late and slow paddle shifters or the sport shifter and it will cost you a race because it will get on the red line and when you have already upshifted it will have that delay that you are still on the red line and then eventually it will get to third gear and at that point it will probably start to redline in third gear then you have to go ahead and upshift so what they tell you to do is start from the beginning to get the car. and drive, if you're getting ready to race, put it in sport mode, you slow down to second, so now we're in second, this is where you want to be in a row of 40, the guy starts honking and what are you? what you're supposed to do is this is the tap tap right here, you do it, you hurry up and you hit it back to drive and then you go back to the sport and it's supposed to keep you in second gear, but it changes gears for you when you step on it the background so as not to mark the red line.
It's in second gear and I have to rely on manually upshifting, so that's something I'm still learning. They say it's bad to hit the ground like you're on an interstate and it's in sixth gear, so just map the throttle they can blow up, you can blow up the transmission because the car doesn't like shifting from sixth to second, you can blow something up, I don't know what it is, but I don't know if that is a common problem or not. I've been trying to look it up and see how many people were actually ruining streams by doing that.
It doesn't seem to be a common problem, but it has happened before, but otherwise this transmission is super solid. And I guess once I can figure out the tap tap method, uh, I guess racing will be a lot easier and more reliable to the extent that I have to worry about the transmission blowing up trying to figure out what gear it wants to be in, uh, these . Cars always maintain oil pressure just make sure this is an aftermarket gauge on my car that used to be a clock and has been replaced. I always keep oil pressure as my number one and then intake temperatures two are pretty. manifold temperatures a lot, so you can just keep an eye on the heat, soaking your supercharger and stuff like that, so when those temperatures start to go up then you know your heat is soaking and stuff like that, so I like to keep those two variables on . hand at all times, but again, that's aftermarket, but you can, I'm not sure if it allows me to do it or not with the hood open, but you can actually, yeah, you can scroll through and you can check your uh, where is it?, yes. you could check your stock oil pressure, you know, it sucks that you can't use this gauge cluster and share it with your mileage and electronic speed.
I wish you could. I'm pretty sure v1 could do that. It had a It had two separate screens and under the speedometer you could do a digital readout of the speedometer, which is what I like to do because you get used to that instead of using it like the analog gauge and then you had another one, I think, under the label that would help. stuff like that oil pressure so you can run both electronic gauges at the same time oil pressure and your digital speed layout this car only has one and there's no way to split it like on my mustang it only has one readout too but you can split it.
It will share the same screen and it says mileage or trip a or b or anything like that. You know, it's just a little nitpicky thing I have with this car, like I don't understand why they didn't go ahead with it. and put two electronic screens maybe the manual ones will do it because I have this here uh, I don't know, actually I'm going to look for that and see what I'm curious about, but this is what I like, I like my digital odometer, so of course anyway, uh I've been watching electronic failures on these cars and since I've had them and this all seems to be pretty reliable, I haven't had any problems with this, well in fact I took it back, I had a problem.
It took me a little research. I had to look on a very old forum and it may just be a peculiar 2009 thing, but I doubt it because I'm pretty sure nothing changed electronically between all the years, but if your car ever does this. I'm looking in the car and the guy says Hey man, the HVAC system controls the radio and everything is dead and I mean all my stuff, the radio was dead, this meter was dead, all this, none of this, I could, I could . I didn't use any of it, it was all dead and it was driving me crazy.
I thought, "Well, I've had this car for three days, the electronics already blew up, it's a clean title car, but my luck was like it was a flooded car and it never was." I reported it to insurance and here it is I'm done with it no, what happens is I'm going to go ahead and show you I'm going to turn off the car so you can hear me uh it's just a peculiar thing that you know like it's ever happened to anyone I have owned a v2 for a long time and you guys have this problem because it comes and goes but mine never came back after I found the solution but there is a fuse box back here and you have This I'm pretty sure it was a fuse bolt 10 millimeters and all this brick here can eventually come loose, that's what happened.
Mine somehow, this bolt came out and this brick is like a giant, like a fuse housing or something, I'm not sure what. It's a connector, that's what it is and it slid out of place just a hair and what it did was it turned off my entire air conditioner, my radio and everything, so I just pushed this brick back as hard as I could, you could hear it. the click back. instead tighten that 10 millimeter bolt, don't overtighten it, you don't want to take it off, but yeah, that was a weird thing that this car has and I've been reading a bunch of forums and they're all like oh it's your uh bcm I think is what they said, it ruined your car, the computer is a fraud, blah blah blah, I was going crazy like I said, you know, I had this car for about three days and it started doing that but some guy said no. you know just go back there and check that brick in the back of your car with a 10 millimeter bolt and just loosen it and push it in and tighten it and that fixed all the problems for me and that fixed all the problems for me too so that's just A weird thing you know about these electronics and things like that, but like I said in general, this is, you know a GM car and you're going to have people complaining about the interior and how it sounds and things like that that I don't have. those issues and again this is a GM and even though this car is new it weighs 60,000 GM it's expensive for a GM product but again like this car was competing with cars like Mercedes and BMW at the time yeah , their interiors are better if you are going to compare interiors, but most people when they buy these cars they buy it for the engine, they don't buy it for the interior or at least I didn't buy it for the interior, I bought it for the lsa engine and I have four doors, so I use this car daily.
If it seems to some people that how I use this car, I throw tools and things in the back seats, that's why I like having a sedan, it's easy to access, uh and this. It's probably going to be a car that I'll end up keeping surprisingly well and these back seats may eventually break a little bit and stuff because I'm only going to use this car for what it is as a sedan. You know, I'm nice. from a jack of all trades, you know, I have comfort for the most part again, like I said, this is a sporty Cadillac, this is a uh a v, so don't expect to get in, you can climb up and get in this car and expect the same .
Ride quality that's not going to happen my car is lowered but even a factory v2 drives a little stiffer than your normal cadillac and then you have people complaining about fuel consumption and stuff. I'm not going to let this car be it's not designed for gas mileage, you're not going to get 40 mpg out of this car but you do get good gas mileage for a supercharged v8 and that's the only thing that really matters you know even the Gear bosses want that extra mile per gallon, you know? They can take advantage of it, but for the most part people just want extreme horsepower, so fuel consumption is not a very important thing to consider. It counts when you buy a V, but as I say, the interior for me is super nice.
Like it's the nicest car I've ever owned, like I don't have any weird problems with it, I mean it's cheap plastic, yeah don't get me wrong, but mine doesn't rattle or squeak or crack, I don't know how. People have those problems, I guess the previous owner just didn't take care of it and what the hell were they doing to it. I don't know if they just hit the car every time they got in or not, but yeah, yeah. If that's something you're looking for, it's the interior, yeah, check for cracks or anything loose, check the electronics, like I said, this one has the panoramic sunroof.
Mine doesn't leak or anything, but my sunroof and everything works, so if you're interested in that stuff, just make sure all your electronics work, the power seats, all your controls and so on. Pretty standard, everyone is fine here and can program their seating options. You have two options and you have Okay, I love this option. You press that and lift the steering wheel and move your seat back a little so you can get out of the car. One weird thing: you don't have that much storage space. Have more. than you in the v1, I hated the v2, I mean the interior space of the v1, like the cargo bags and the things in the door, it sucked, but this here is a little small, like you have a storage console of two levels here so you can get your main one from there which is pretty small it can barely hold gum and a dual phone charger and you have another one up here that basically holds my firearm and a knife and it's done so that the storage could be a little better I guess, but I really fixed these door bags from the v1 and the electronic handbrake got rid of that stupid problem from the v1 where you had the hood release and the handbrake one on top of the other one so they fixed all that, look at that, that's weird, I don't have a third pedal, uh, and I guess just check your dual climate control, stuff like that, this isn't something anyone really does, and this is just kind of obvious when someone buys a car, so yeah, so again, crawl under the car, look for rust, I don't know if.
These cars had extreme rust problems or not, but I know most cars like rust here on the side panels and things like that, but again, this car doesn't have any of those problems, but it does crawl under it and just look at the exhaust or something, but this car is low, I don't feel like hitting the ground, but yeah, long story short, because I feel like I really drew this video with just a bunch of random ramblings, but honestly, there's nothing to take into account. On these cars, in addition to the supercharger problems, you get rattles and just make sure the brick has been reinforced and one way to look at it is that it will look like you have head gasket problems, you will burn a little coolant and there will be a lot of smoke. out the exhaust so look for it, but the cap on these cars is pretty easy to remove, everything is easy to access and you can take it off and look because even reinforced bricks can still leak, it's a good rule of thumb. thumb to check that and again, uh, even if the car has that marble sound and if you can convince the owner to give you a really good price and the car has less than 120,000 miles, gm will replace the supercharger for you, They go by the VIN is not the owner's so if the supercharger hasn't been replaced yet they will replace it for free.
I don't know if there is a limit to the number of superchargers the car can have. I'm pretty sure it's a problem. I've only replaced it once and it's tied to your VIN, but let's go ahead and get the VIN number of the car you're looking at and call GM just to see if your car is eligible to be sure, but if it's never been replaced and you can get the car for a really good price, you can take it and replace the supercharger so basically you're getting a good deal and put a new supercharger on it and then later on put the solid oscillator on it. the supercharger because that's what really helps these things anyway I'm at 32 minutes I feel like I can redo this video if not I'll keep it posted hopefully I can spread some good information here and help some people out when they're buying or thinking about buying a v2 car, thanks again for watching and I hope this video can help someone.
