SMALL PANTRY ORGANIZATION Before & After | Dollar Tree & Ikea

Feb 27, 2020
Hi everyone, I'm Christina from DIY Mommy Kong and today I want to show you how I organized our little

pantry

. I hope everyone is having a good start to the new year. Many times I feel like completely purging and organizing in the new year just to have that feeling of starting over and this

pantry

was so bad please don't judge me if you do that it's ok but try not to do it because it was very bad guys so that was one of my missions last week was to completely organize it so I want to show you how I did it from start to finish with the help of some IKEA products and some Dollar Tree products and I hope it gives you ideas on how to organize your own pantry, especially if you have a

small

one like me. ok here's the pantry as it looked before oh my gosh it's basically just bags and packages throw them in there without rhyme or reason it had baking stuff at the bottom and snacks at the top but didn't really look too all that.

Single-use plastic I really want to try to get rid of most of it this year, so this

organization

will help me do that, so the first thing is to take absolutely everything out of our pantry and put it in a giant pile. Once everything was in a big pile on the floor I was able to vacuum and clean the pantry so it was nice and clean and I was also able to see exactly what we had to throw away anything that was expired and such. I took an inventory of what we have now. I wanted to add another shelf to this pantry, however this line of IKEA cabinets is sadly discontinued and I also couldn't move that shelf in the middle because it was nailed directly into the pantry to stabilize it, so I decided to move one of the pull out drawers to the middle so we can have five shelves instead of four, so that the stationary shelf in the middle is not removable because we can't get any new brackets or anything like that.

I thought it would add the extra storage I needed to our pantry, so once I moved the little shelf bracket I was able to put the pull out shelf back into this pantry. This is all IKEA about seven years ago, then I went to Ikea with my girls because I love their storage solutions and I also love the ball pit so I can put my five year old in the ball pit and then my 11 year old son and I went through all of their storage so that they only have cute square boxes that fit everything very well, even in my old IKEA kitchen, so my daughter saw these wire and wood baskets.

They are very pretty, plus they only cost ten Canadian

dollar

s and two of them side by side. I knew by looking at the measurements that they would fit perfectly in our

small

pantry. I also really like these IKEA 365 ones, plus they are plastic, however, I know I will use them for a long time. They have lids that fit snugly and are airtight, so they're great for things like flour, sugar, oats, and other baking supplies. Swap out the lids, they come in all kinds of sizes, so I grabbed my tape measure and made sure I had the right amount, some smaller and some larger so they would fit nicely in our pantry.

I also grabbed these from Ikea's 365 Plus line here. They are like little cereal containers. I like that they are nice and thin but tall, so they will take advantage of the vertical space in our pantry. I also had these plastic containers from Dollar Tree. I've had them since last year and I like that. They were long and short so they fit on that stationary shelf in my pantry and I could slide them in and out to provide a solution for that non-removable shelf there, so then I went ahead and just dried them. I fit all the containers together and decided how they fit into my pull out drawers in our pantry and then I put some potatoes and onions in this one of the wire mesh baskets and decided whether or not to buy anything else for all the things. that we bought at IKEA I thought we didn't need anything else until now and I also wanted to reuse a lot of the containers and jars I had to make sure we weren't buying tons of extra things that we don't need.
I decided to put fewer containers in our bottom drawer because I wanted space to move them around and remove the lids and then I put a few on top to play with how things fit in our closet, then I filled them all. the containers with different cereals rice, sugar and flour I also had my little helper here until you really enjoyed organizing everything. I took a lot of things out of their original containers and recycled the original containers and then went through my jar collection. I have so many. glass jars from Dollarama Dollar Tree and I always recycle all my pickle jars and pasta jars and put some of my dry goods in there, like chocolate chips, flax seeds, all that kind of stuff.
I also went ahead and put some baking supplies like sprinkles and things in one of the Dollar Tree baskets on the right in the one on the left. I put out snacks. I also got these from Dollar Tree last year. They are like little stackable containers and I decided to put in some of the things we don't use. use it as much as crackers cracker packets soup packets in this top cupboard here next I designed some labels you know I love turquoise and teal so these are turquoise and teal labels with labels of the things that we have in our I will leave a link in the description box below if you want to print them too.
I'll have these and then some blank ones that you can write on and you can print them out for free and use them too. I don't use a very fancy method to tape them to the baskets in my closet, just a little bit of tape, but you can use tape or another method if you want and then I taped them to my baskets to label them like that. It helps me get my kids and husband involved and put everything in the same place in the pantry. Then I created some labels with my Cricut. I'm not going to go into details about how I make them.
I have a complete video. How I create labels with my Cricut, I will link in the top right corner and down in the description box below. Yes, it is a slightly more laborious method than perhaps other labeling methods. However, I really love how it looks. I love this font I used. I'll list it in the description box below, so it's a fun thing I like to do. I'm adding a few more labels I printed to my baking potato basket. I have pancake mixes and cake mixes in the top left basket too and I like how organized and cute it looks.
I also put some of the cricket labels on the containers at the bottom so that the straps and bottom of the cabinet are like the flowers and sugars. Again, be sure to watch my video on how to make labels with a cricket machine which I will link in the description box below. If you want to make these types of labels too, I put some of those paper labels on the speech bubbles at the top. of the pantry and I was done, so just a reminder, here's what our pantry looked like before and here's what it looks like now.
It feels great for the guys to finally be able to do this. This has been, oh man, at least five years in the making. I just haven't done it because I leave many spaces in my house behind doors for last. You know, I want to make every space I see more beautiful, but this feels really good and I know it will make our lives so much easier. So now that I've gotten rid of all of our packages and am going to recycle them, I want to commit to trying to buy more foods in bulk and use these jars.
