Mar 05, 2024
foreign cars and welcome to another video Welcome to the north of Scotland. I'm in my Golf GTI and I thought I'd take this opportunity to talk to you about what it's been like to own my Mark 6 GTI because a lot of people question it. I bought such an old car to begin with and thought this was the perfect opportunity to take the car out on these amazing roads we have around here and share with you my experience owning it, whether or not I would recommend it anyway. Also Ado, let's get back in the car and take a quick drive along these stunning Scottish roads.

Thanks, The Mark 6 Golf GTI was launched in 2009, so this car being from 2010 makes it one of the first cars that regular viewers of this channel will be familiar with. I bought this car when I was about eight years old, so it wasn't exactly a new car and a lot of people asked me why the hell are you buying such an old car. My reasoning was value for money and I think that's what I'm going to address right away when it comes to the Mark 6 GTI about five years ago and like I said, this car was eight years old and had 48,000 miles on it.

More Interesting Facts About,

I think I paid 11 and a half grand for the car it's not a lot of money and now with 85,000 miles you could probably buy it for around seven and a half to eight grand again it's not a lot of money. I just think the Mark 6 represents excellent value for money. about the mark 7. the mark 7

costs

a lot more money, the mark eight as we all know have just been released and are very expensive and what is happening with the gtis, the recipe hasn't really changed, they like to keep the cars the same and That's true when this car was released, it was kind of forgotten that the Mark 5 came out and after years of making disastrous GTIs, the Mark V revived the GTI badge and brought us one of the best cars VW has ever made.

Then they followed up with the Mark 6, which certainly was just a facelift, just a small facelift of the original recipe and for that reason it's just been forgotten and I think it's a real shame because the Mark 6 GTI is a facelift. face of the Mark 5. It's a little better. it has a nicer interior and I think it looks better from the outside and yet they've just forgotten about it and I don't understand why it's as good if not better than the Mark 5 and yet no one talks about it so If we are looking for a Mark 6 GTI, obviously the price plays a role and these cars are amazingly good value for money, so it makes sense to buy one in

2023

because they are simply a bargain of the century what this car offers in terms of

performance

as it looks and that GTI badge.

I don't think there is much that comes close to this amount of money. The next thing I want to touch on is about the Mark 6 GTI and specifically this one because I know that not all two cars are the same. People may have had very bad experiences with them, but we have had very good experiences with this car in terms of

reliability

, build quality and everything. I've had this car like I said for five years and I recently made a video that I'm going to link to at the top of the screen now to talk about how much it's cost me over that time and it's practically nothing, we've had to put tires on it, brakes and service, that's it, nothing has ever broken, we have power in the morning.
The light is on, it's been on since I bought the car and it's something I want to fix and it's a common fault on these and it has to do with the intake manifold, strangely it doesn't affect the way the car drives and as Yo, I said I left it on for about five years so it's clearly not a big deal, so the

reliability

of the Mark 6 is not what people say or at least it hasn't been for me, this car has been extremely reliable, probably the most reliable. car I've ever owned and it seems to stay that way when you drive it, you don't feel like you're driving a 2010 car considering this car hasn't had a suspension upgrade or anything, it's had springs, but it hasn't.
It's had some major work done, the steering is straight and true and the way it corners. I mean, honestly, it's such a fun hot hatch that it brings me to one of the other things about the Mark 6 GTI, which in my opinion is the best. above all and it's the fun, the fun you can have in this car is better than any other hot hatch you've ever driven. I used to have a Renault sport McGann and yes it was fun, a very track focused car, but it wasn't fun. On the road here in Scotland as you can see the roads are stunning but they are very bumpy, a lot of them are single file and you have to go easy, this car allows you to push the limits of the car without going crazy. speed and it gives you a lot of driver involvement and a lot of fun and with the noise it makes I don't think you can hear it but yeah the noise of the Mark 6 is really nice so on the later models.
They actually injected some artificial noise into the Mark 6, that technology just wasn't available, so what they did was put in a hollow tube that connects the engine block to the firewall and echoes the engine into the cabin, so which in some ways is a bit It's a bit of a cheat but it's not fake and in fact when I've been filming this car from the outside you'll have seen it pretty well too so yeah I think the amount of fun you can having in this car really sells it. I knew the moment I got in all those years ago that I was going to buy it because you take some corners and accelerate sharply coming out of corners and you completely sold out my other car, as you know it's a Porsche Cayman 987 and I actually have the car in the same sense, they are both so good to each other in their own way, what the Cayman offers is totally different, but the GTI always makes me smile on all these roads here in Scotland that I have never been on.
Everyone around them thinks they wish they were in the Porsche and that says everything you need to know about the GTI. Another thing worth mentioning again, it comes down to the build quality of this car, but I feel like the VW peaked this year. I've always made very well made cars, that's not even up for discussion, but they've gone up and down over the years and I think in 2010 when they came out with this, yeah, they knew how to put a car together properly, the wind noise it keeps. It's incredibly low level and there are no rattles or squeaks, the only rattles in this car are all the drunks I carry and my child seat in the back, other than that there is no rattle at all and it's just a really nice car. comfortable for long miles.
We often go on very very long trips in this car, we have taken it across Europe twice and gone too, we get to Scotland regularly which is a good nine hour drive so you can cover long distances easily in these terms in terms of the specifications. This car, if anyone is wondering, is an extremely basic spec and that's what I love about it. All the latest hot hatches coming out now. I have adaptive cruise control. They have all these different weird electronic differentials. Some of them even have. Hybrid Power now, this was from an era where none of that really worried anyone, no one really wanted it and the Mark 6 GTI is about as close as you can get to a modern hot hatch, but Back to Basics, I think this is potentially one of the last hot hatches of this type, a very very basic raw experience, doesn't have as many driver assists that will take away from the involvement you get from the car, but still has the usual nice comfortable Creature seats Comforts, with heating and traction control, that's your thing, this car is very low spec in terms of what you could get in a GTI at the time and I think it suits the car, a lot of people buy older cars because they like them.
I like simplicity and I do. Just think that for someone my age this is Sim, this is as simple as you want to be and it's just the perfect hot hatch for daily driving and don't be put off by the fact that now they are taking a bit because the money they You will save by buying one, the smiles it will put on your face, it will be worth every penny, so I intend to create many more videos about this car every time I upload a video of this car. They're always so popular and I think that's because they're not very documented online and that's a pretty cool draw of this car too is that it seems to me that they have some kind of Rarity value because everyone bought the Mach 5 and there's a There are a lot of old

golf

s out there and certainly a lot of Mark Sevens.
The Mark 6 is a rarity on the roads. We actually drove to Scotland, it took us eight and a half and nine hours and I don't think I've ever seen another Mark 6 GTI. the road, so they have that Rarity, which I really like, you don't see many of them and they are a very, very attractive car, so yes, I plan to feature this car a lot more on the channel and get out. Some nice roads and I'll really share with you what it's like to have this car because my Porsche is the main feature of the canal and it's what brought a lot of people here, but I can't ignore the fact that this car has very good views.
It seems like everyone enjoys it and many of you have even said that you also own a Mark 6 GTI and that it came out in 987. It's really strange, but it just goes to show that these cars appeal to a certain type of person and that person is me. So is a Mark 6 Golf GTI worth owning in

2023

? I can categorically tell you that not only are you saving money by purchasing the car, but the car offers incredible

performance

and reliability that is simply unmatched by its rivals. Yes, you can go and look. In the Mark 7 or Mark 8 GTIS they offer more or less the same but with a slightly more refined construction, more power but a higher cost.
I think this Mark 6 GTI represents incredible value for money, it doesn't look like it's going to lose anything. more, but anyway I hope you enjoyed this video. If so, be sure to like and subscribe if you haven't already, but there will be many more videos to come. Thank you very much for watching and we'll see you next time. bye
