, can you describe your emotions when you hit your last putt today? um, yeah, I'm glad I lowered my stroke average, my putting average to 18, that was good, um, you know, five. Two and a half strokes is my average, so not bad, no, it's hard to put into words how special this is.

It's been a long week, a tough week, the golf course was very challenging and to be sitting here wearing this jacket again and being able to take it home is extremely special, great, let's open up the questions John Scotty, question one in two parts. I see you have some kinesiology tape on. I guess it's from your neck. And two, how was this Sunday morning? different than Sunday morning two years ago, yeah, Sunday morning was definitely different, um, yeah, instead of just me being home, I had a couple of friends with me and we sat and relaxed, I tried to I didn't think about going, but it was more and more. difficult, but you know they were a great support to me this morning, and, yes, it was a long morning, but it was worth it.

I'm glad to be sitting here now, Don C, congratulations. Opponents will hope that at some point you will take your eye off the ball. By the

time

the next major comes around, in a month's time he will have a baby in his arms. What are the chances you think you will take? Your eye off the ball, well, I definitely shouldn't take my eye off the ball intentionally. I'll go home to soak in this victory tonight. I will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child, but that being said, you know I still. I still love to compete.

My priorities will change here very soon. You know, my son, his daughter will now be the top priority along with my wife. So golf will now probably be fourth in line. But I still love to compete. I don't plan on taking the ball away anytime soon, that's for sure, Doug, shop,

what

do you consider to be the most important shot you made today? The biggest shot, I would say, the best Turner drive I had today was the birdie putt on eight, you know? I had two really good shots along the green. I had an extremely difficult pitch that I hit there, you know, 10 or 12 feet from the cup and it was a challenging read because it turned early and was very straight at the end. um so it was a putt that you really had to start in line and um you know I hope it held its line and you know I poured it in and then um you know it gave me a good boost and I used it to berie n n and 10 and um , you know, keep pushing because I knew there were birdies on the back nine.

I had a lot of really talented players trying to come after me and um, I knew the pairs weren't going to make it. You explain the difference in how it feels emotionally between hitting the last green and putting. A putt is significantly easier. Yes. I tried not to let my emotions get the best of me this time. I kept my head down. I did not do it. I don't even think I took my hat off and waved to the crowd as I approached 18 I tried my best to stay in the moment and I wanted to finish the tournament the right way um and I got soaked there after one putt instead of four , which was a little better.
Chris Scotty Colin was talking about how much farther you were than him on a couple of holes and how you know you have a big lead. I mean, do you just see it as a huge mental advantage when you're, you know, a few hundred meters or 50 meters ahead of Colin? I mean, I don't know if he was that far away. The 50 meter and 30 meter column may have exaggerated a bit, but yeah, I drove the ball really well this week, I was hitting it hard, today was a day where I was able to swing freely and around this spot, I mean , distance is distance is very important on this golf course, the fairways.
They are quite wide and when the greens are that firm, you have to have short clubs to get into these greens, especially in the little areas where they put the pins, so I would say that this week I was swinging a little harder than before. I would do it at a normal PG Tour event just because there's a little more room outside the tea, um at a regular tour stop or the US Open or something like that, the height of my tea might be a little bit lower and it's I may be hitting more different types of shots, but a lot of the drives I hit this week I was just hitting it high and hitting it hard, that's all and congratulations Scotty.
I know you said you basically kept your head down all day, but at some point you allowed yourself to enjoy the lead, you enjoyed the lead, no, um, I think like any human, your mind starts to wander a little bit on the golf course. , we were there, you know, four or five hours straight, you know you have to let your My mind wander. I tried to absorb the things around me today. I looked at the trees sometimes. I looked at the fans from time to time and tried to absorb some of their energy, but um, I never allowed myself to get attached to the leader.
I just tried to keep pushing, I mean, I think if I had played a little bit defensively, it would have been a significantly different ending. You know, I went for the green and two on 13 I was able to make birdie. I attacked the pin on 14. I was able to make birdie. I tried again on 15. I was able to make a good par and I made a really good shot there on 16 for birdie, so you know, I was just trying to play for pars on the back nine. I would have been standing there on 18 having to make a par um and waiting for Ludvig to just make a par um and that's why on this golf course you have to stay aggressive, you have to hit the right shots, there's no way, there's no way to avoid it.
You can't play too defensive here or too aggressive, you just have to make the right shots and luckily I was able to do that today. Sean Martin, you constantly say that your identity is not in your golf scores. So

what

is it about winning and competing that you find satisfying? You know, it's a very good question. I was sitting with my friends this morning. He was a little overwhelmed because I told him I wish I hadn't. I don't want to win as much as I did or as much as I do, I think it would make the mornings easier, but I love to win, I hate to lose, I really do and when you're here in the most important moments when I'm sitting there with a lead on Sunday I really want to win and my friends told me this morning you know my victory was certain on the cross and that is a very special feeling to know that I am safe forever and that is not the case.
It doesn't matter, you know whether or not I win this tournament or lose it, you know my identity is safe forever. James Scotty I wonder what you learned about leading on this golf course from your previous great GR Masters that you attended. In this one, I think it is a difficult golf course to close out a victory. I mean, like I said, you can't play too defensive like the 12th, a good example of a hole where if you play too defensive like where the corral is today, we're trying to hit it right above that bunker, right there on the middle of the green, and if you hit it to the right, it goes further, like you can see Max H in the group in front of us, maybe he hit it and it flies into the bushes for a long time, I mean, I've hit the bushes for a long time there several times, um, so you can't just sit there and play too defensively, you have to play in the right spot and hit really good golf shots, um, and I did. that the best I could today and luckily I was able to hit some really key shots and make some good birdies on the back nine really from the full eight onwards I played very, very good golf Andy, are you talking about your faith? uh, Scotty, could you tell us a little bit about how much that comes to mind when you're in the field?
Does it help you deal with the kind of visits from the wind and things like that? Yeah, I mean, me. I believe that today's plans were already laid out, you know, many years ago and I couldn't do anything to ruin those plans, you know, I have been given a gift of this talent and I use it for the glory of God, that is. Sort of, so when I'm there I try to compete the best I can, like I said, I really want to win. I feel like that's how I was designed. I've been like this since I was a kid. that's always been a part of me, I don't think it should go away anytime soon and I don't think there's anything wrong with that either, but at the end of the day, like I said, my identity is already secure and I understand coming here and competing, having fun, enjoying it and then , at the end of the day, winning or losing my identity, securing Kyle, how much do you struggle with just the idea of discontent or needing more wins, more money, more fame to be satisfied?
And when are you happiest? God, that's a good question. I feel like playing professional golf is an endlessly unsatisfying career. For example, in my head the only thing I can think about now is getting home. I'm not thinking about the tournament I'm not thinking about the Green Jacket I'm trying to answer your questions I'm trying to get home um I wish I could absorb this a little more maybe I will tonight when I get home but at the end of the day, I think that's what the human heart always wants the most and I think you have to fight those things and focus on what's good because, like I said, winning this golf tournament doesn't change my identity, my identity is safe and I can't I can't emphasize that enough Kevin, how did you mention that you know your life is going to change soon, what are you most looking forward to about being a father?
Well, I'm looking forward to the next two weeks, hopefully, getting some sleep and then I know a couple of months I probably didn't get any sleep, no, but I mean, I'm excited. I think it's funny when when you get married, a lot of people tend to make jokes like, oh, your life is over, and, and, my friends were always so excited. get married, but you miss some people who make jokes and things like that when it comes to having a child, all the people say that it changes your life and that it is the most special thing in the world, so I can't get married.
In such a tremendous aspect of my life, I can't even imagine what it will be like to be a father. Brian Scotty, it sounds like you have complete control of your game in the zone right now, whatever that may be, how do you feel out there? Do you feel like you are playing your best golf right now? I feel like I'm playing really good golf right now. I feel like I'm in control of my emotions like I always have been. What's a good place to be? I feel like I'm maturing as a person on the golf course, which is a good place to be.
I think it is difficult to argue with the results of the last few weeks. I've been playing real golf, but I really try not to focus too much on the past. I'm going to go home and reflect on this week and soak it up as best I can, but you know, like I said, it's not a very satisfying sport because I'm supposed to play again on Thursday, so um, we're back to the grind. pretty quick, Adam Scotty, was there anything Meredith told you this morning that helped you and your way to victory today? She just asked how she could pray for me and I actually didn't get to talk to her for a long time this morning, which was unusual, but you know, she sent a lot of prayers, my neck was bothering me a little bit, so you prayed for some healing and, you know, I prayed that I would have a lot of peace out there.
I had a good conversation with my friends who were here this morning about Victory and that Victory is secured. So yeah, yeah, it was a longer morning than anticipated this year. but I would say it wasn't as long as it was a couple of years ago, but it was still a long morning and the only time this week that your neck bothered you this morning, yeah, I think it was, I think, when you get stressed, I think. your body just reacts, whether it's a stomachache or not, or your body starts to hurt. I think my body was just reacting to the stress and, um, yeah, that's it.
Ryan Gotti, can you explain your and Randy's decision? I had to hire Phil Kenyan and what that meant to you at the time and what it means now after East Lake last year coming home on the plane and um sitting there talking to Blake and I, we looked at each other and I think We were both thinking the same thing and we both looked at each other. I was like, you know, I think I want to see a putting coach and Blake says, I think that's a good idea, let's talk to Randy, um, and I had seen Phil before.
I watched him coach players and I think when you're here for as long as I have you just see things and I loved the way Phil coached his players. You know, you look at a guy like Fitzy who lines up a lot. of his putts and uses a putter that has a lot of swing and then you look at a guy like Keegan Bradley, who Phil also teaches, who doesn't use a line on the ball, he uses a giant putter with crosses. he's got the hand and he makes good putts so as I was watching Phil I realized he was open minded and that's the kind of people I like to work with and we hit the ground running there in the fall and you know I can.
I can't speak enough about the decision Randy also made that he just be open-minded, don't take his ego, just sit there, watch us work, watch Phil do his thing. Phil is also a guy who doesn'tHe has a big ego, he just wants the best for his players and, you know. I'm really very lucky to have those two guys as part of my team. I can't, it's hard, it's hard to describe what it's like to have someone. I mean, Randy had taught me for almost 20 years every aspect of the game and therefore having to bring in someone else could have been a shot to his ego and he may not have wanted me to do it, but Randy was sat there and said: you know what I think it is, I think this is right.
So we called Phil and about a week later he came over and had a visit, we worked for a couple of days and, yeah, now we're here. Mike Keegan in the back, hello, Scotty. I was wondering when you talk about yourself. your own parents and your upbringing, if there is something that you will definitely use when you become a parent and also how long do you think you are going to leave it until you put a plastic stick in the baby's hand, um, I guess starting. With my upbringing you know my parents always wanted the best for me um I swear my dad I think he would lie down in front of traffic if it meant he wouldn't scratch my arm I mean he would die for anything. of his children, I mean my parents, they would be such special people, um and first of all, I think how much love they had for us growing up, I mean, that's what I'm most looking forward to.
I think about being. A parent is being able to love love my child like my parents love me. How long will it take me to put a plastic nail in my children's hands? You know, it's funny, I watch my nephew a lot, my older sister had her first child and he'll be two in June and some people want to be like their parents and some people don't want to be like their parents and Hayes is a kid who wants to be like his. Dad and his dad love grass and I have a video for my sister the other day of Hayes following his dad around the backyard with his dad mowing the grass and Hayes was knocking it down with his plastic lawnmower and Andrew was amazed. love to play golf.
Hayes loves to play golf. Which one is my son? to like who the hell knows knows what they'll pick up on, but whatever it is, you know, I just want to be there to support them, no matter what they're doing, Jeffrey, a great champion and an even better human Scotty Sheffer offers a look at the mind that has created these moments. Shefer now has nine wins on the PGA Tour, all since February 2022. He was the pre-tournament favorite and showed why he was the first pre-tournament favorite to win. from tiger in 05
