Samsung's Cheapest vs. Most Expensive Smartphone Compared!

of Lower tier and cheaper Samsung specs than some of you. You may not have even heard before that the price difference between these two phones is over $1,000 and what I want to know is how different these phones really are from each other. I mean, they're both Samsung phones, they're both Android devices and they should more or less do the same things right, sure the s24 ultra has the S Pen and the amazing camera zoom and the new AI features, but all that?

10 times more money? I mean, the a05 has a headphone jack and a Micro. SD card slot and it even comes in more fun colors so it has its own advantages if you really think about it and you can buy like 10 of these for your friends and family instead of spending your collective net worth on a single s24 Ultra. Now I'm a little torn here, but let me set the stage for you and we'll actually do a legit side by side comparison, you'll be able to see all the differences and all the similarities between these two phones and then maybe you can let me know in the comments if the s24 ultra is it really worth it or maybe the a05 is a surprisingly good value, so first of all, I know what you're going to say.

smartphone

and the full retail price for the base 256GB storage model is a whopping $1,299, on the other hand the a05, if you're not familiar, is the Samsung's lowest-end budget or mid-range device. The range category is a series that many of you might be familiar with, like last year's a54 which was a popular phone, but this new a05 is the latest entry-level device in that line and is listed for around about $150, but I've actually seen it even cheaper than that on other websites.

Now, the first little caveat I want to draw your attention to is something I mentioned a moment ago. If you want to configure your s24 Ultra with more storage, you'll pay a lot more. money over $1,400 for the $512GB model or almost $1,700 for the 1TBTE configuration, the A5 technically only has 64GB as I have here or 128GB of storage itself, but it does have a Micro SD card slot, so you can buy a Samsung Evo micro SD card from Amazon says this one is 512GB for $25 and voila, you have as much storage as one of the higher tier s24 Ultras.

Now you can certainly argue that a Micro SD card is not that fast and practical. or versatile like built-in storage, I get that, but I still think there's something to be said for both the cost of the s24 ultra's storage options and the desirability of a smartphone having just a Micro SD card in general, an argument that What I always do in favor of Samsung's budget smartphones today is that they basically look exactly like the top-tier devices, which wasn't always the case. Previous budget Samsung devices looked like cheap Android phones but at a glance the A5 now almost looks like Samsung's other S-tier devices, kind of like a regular reg s24 and I know looks shouldn't matter but let's be honest , yes they do and I'm sure some people feel some way about carrying around what looks like a cheap little smartphone in this particular case, although the s24 ultra has a very recognizable appearance. design that even from afar you can tell exactly what this phone is, it looks quite different from the a05, besides that what is a little harder to tell is that the a05 is an all plastic phone with plastic back casing, plastic frame, while the s24 ultra is a new premium titanium and matte frosted glass I think there is something to be said for premium materials.

I mean in hand the s24 just feels high end, it's also more rugged, an ip68 water and dust rating and a new front glass, a couple of things the a05 doesn't have. offer and from a design point of view the s24 ultra also looks more modern and premium even from the front, both are big phones, the A5 measures 6.7 in the s24 ultra measures 6.8, get such a big screen size for this price with the a05 it's definitely pretty good, but even in 2024 this A5 has a screaming to body ratio that just screams budget, the thick black edges of the big old bottom chin and the old school camera notch are telltale signs that this is not a modern flagship so some of what you see and what you hold in your hand is wasted space and interestingly it makes the a 05 taller than the s24 ultra, although its screen size visible is considerably smaller, the s24 ultra has what Samsung claims are some of the smallest bezels on the market. any of their smartphones and I think the distraction-free viewing experience is a pretty nice thing now, there are actually other physical similarities between these two phones.

The power and volume buttons are literally exactly the same, just painted a different color. Both have USBC ports. at the bottom for charging, which sounds strange to mention, but fun fact: pre-z smartphones had micro USB ports and both have speakers at the bottom; However, the S24 Ultra has dual speakers, there is a secondary one in the earpiece on top, the A05 does not. i have that and you can absolutely hear how much better the speaker setup is on the s24 ultra

I feel like even a power button fingerprint sensor should have been included here, something that tech enthusiasts are quick to mention. The critical size for budget phones like the A5 is the screen and I think that's partially justified. I mean, the A5's big 6.7-inch screen has only a 1600 x 720 resolution. In comparison, the S24 Ultra has a 3120 x 440 Quad HD screen and you get almost double that. pixels per inch, if you look very closely you will be able to see the pixels on the A5's screen, while the s24 ultra is basically as sharp as it gets, but I guess if you look at these phones from a normal viewing distance, that may not be a big deal for you of course there's also the refresh rate - the A5 has a 60HZ refresh rate while the s24 ultra is a 120HZ phone and that means the ultra will feel faster and more responsive when you tap and swipe and it will look better visually, smoother and more fluid, the a05 is a little jittery, swipes and taps don't always feel as fast, but there are a good number of people who maybe don't they know it or not.

I completely understand refresh rate on smartphones or monitors, so I guess if that's you, maybe refresh rate isn't a big deal. The a5's display is also a PLS LCD panel. The s24 has a 2x dynamic ltpo AMOLED panel and for me this is probably the most obvious difference visually, I mean the s24 ultra is much bolder and more colourful. You can see the color differences side by side. The A05 sometimes doesn't even show all the color tones and variations with some of the images on screen like the s24. ultra does and there's also the matter of all that glare, the A5 is practically a mirror due in part to its dimmer LCD screen but also due to its lower quality screen glass, the s24 ultra can not only become much more glossy but its front glass is a new Gorilla Glass armor that significantly reduces glare.

Now I'm of the opinion that when you put all those factors together, the resolution, the refresh rate, the colors, the brightness, the brightness, the S24 Ultra screen is probably worth that extra money. I mean this is possibly the best viewing experience on any mobile device right now and I think the a05 actually has a bit of speed by today's standards but I know there are people who are totally fine with what the a05 offers. a05, one thing that I think is difficult to debate here is that the s24 ultra is arguably the best device in terms of performance, equipped with a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 3 processor and 12 GB of RAM, it seems that the ultra I could circle around the A5 with its measly Helio g85 and 4GB of RAM here are the geek bench scores for each phone, if you want to compare some numbers I should note that the a05 doesn't actually have as much power here as the phones Previous low-end Samsung smart phones, so that's a relief. at least and it should come as no surprise that the s24 ultra is faster at getting everything right

No, definitely not, if you are gaming, editing 4K video content using Samsung devices or multitasking, then. Sure, you'll probably get the most out of the s24 Ultra's superior components, but this is where you really need to audit your personal smartphone usage to determine what's really worth it. I will say two more important things on this topic, though first the a05. it has the full UI experience of Android and Sams 1, it's not an Android 1 or Samsung Core software offering and it's just missing a couple of things like NFC, they both have Android 14, although Samsung's s24 Ultra, for Of course, it will be the first.

With major Android and One UI updates moving forward, the ultra and the other new S Series phones also have all those new AI features from Samsung, like Circle for search, live translate, generative photo edits, and much more . I don't think we'll see those AI features ever make it to a budget phone like the a05, although I suppose I could be totally wrong about that and the S series is also now getting 7 years of updates which means you can buy the ultra today and It could last until 2031. While it still feels new and current through the latest software, the a05 could get 2 or 3 years of updates before Samsung stops supporting it, but I suppose you could buy a new cheap device out of the box every year for the next 7 years or so and still pay. less money than an s24 ultra, maybe that's something worth it to you if you just want to get something new all the time.

I think there are some arguments that can be made either way, but there is no doubt that the performance and capabilities of the s24 ultra are certainly what attracts people and is a justification for its much higher price, speaking of drawing, The s24 ultra has that S Pen and not only is it exclusive to the ultra in this particular comparison, but there really isn't any other smartphone on the market that has it. any type of stylus at least not something as good the S Pen has been a standout feature on Samsung's high-end phones for years and unlocks a handful of writing and drawing capabilities as well as some additional features with the stylus itself with the physical button and the Bluetooth connection that I know many people value, the S Pen takes this phone to another level, both from ausability perspective like like this fun and original little thing that helps you pass the time and I don't doubt it.

There are people who buy Samsung's Ultra smartphones specifically for that S Pen; In fact, you could even argue that the S Pen alone justifies the price of the Ultra because if you want a similar writing or drawing experience right now on a mobile device, you literally have to buy an iPad and an Apple Pencil or one of the tabs. Samsung Galaxy and you would carry two different devices; However, nowadays people generally carry a few different devices with them: a phone and a tablet, a phone and a laptop, and you could definitely buy both the a05 and a cheaper or mid-level Samsung tablet with a stylus for even less than the cost of a single s24 Ultra, so maybe that's the decision instead of spending all the money on a smartphone, one of the clearest ones.

The differences between the A5 and the s24 Ultra that not many people consider are the charging capacities. Interestingly, both phones have a 5000 milliamp battery powering them, but the s24 ultra can charge it faster and supports 45 watt charging versus just 25 watts for the A5. The a05 doesn't get any of that and I think there's some element of charging speed and convenience that favors the s24 ultra quite a bit.

Last but not least, arguably the most obvious difference between the a05 and the s24 ultra is in the camera department and I also think this is where 100%% of the population can see that big difference. I actually said both. I called a couple of my friends this week just to get their reactions and the first thing they said was wow the camera on the a05 is kind of bad, that's not entirely true, it has a 50 prime lens megapixels and a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portrait photography, but compared to the s24 ultra with its 200-megapixel main shooter and 50-megapixel Periscope zoom lens and 10-megapixel telephoto lens and 12-megapixel ultra-wide megapixels, well, not a very fair comparison.

Moving on to the selfie cameras also shows a pretty obvious difference, I mean. the a04 looks like a fogged mirror in comparison and in terms of capability obviously the s24 ultra simply has infinitely more here to work with, what most people are going to jump straight to is the ultra zoom capabilities and this is a feature which I think everyone is impressed because there are also many more professional and high-end features on the ultra that maybe not everyone uses, like 8K video recording for example, but for the majority of the camera experts among us, I'm sure it's worth the expert, film-level material.

On the other hand, the price of the a05 is not only that the camera specs are not that good, but it misses out on some things that I think should be standard nowadays, like 4K video recording, it doesn't have that or better selfie videos and images o Wide angle lens o Better Zoom o Improved video stabilization. I guess if you're just taking simple photos of your friends, your food, and your dog, it may not matter too much, but I think there's something to be said here when you look somewhere.
