Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra vs S20 Ultra

Mar 31, 2024
Now that the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is finally available, how does it compare to last year's Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra? Should I save some money and go for the s20

ultra

? Is it worth upgrading from s20

ultra

to s21 ultra? What's up, guys? here at supersaf tv and we will try to answer all these things in this video by putting all the key differences side by side in the supersaf style, so the first thing I want to say is that pretty much everything I criticized on the s20 ultra last year It's improved on the s21 ultra, it's almost like someone from Samsung is watching my review and going over all the points one by one.
samsung galaxy s21 ultra vs s20 ultra
I'm joking, obviously a lot of people also got a lot of feedback on the s20 ultra, but I'm very happy to see that a lot of these things have been implemented, but there are actually some things missing on the s21 ultra that we have on the s20 ultra. Now the first thing I want to see is the general design that I said before. that the s20 ultra looks a bit bland, it's available in this gray or black and then there was a white one later on, but it's pretty flat and simple, nothing really stands out, in my opinion the s21 ultra looks really great, I I really like the updated camera module that now integrates into the side, there's really nothing else that looks like this and Samsung has gone for a matte finish on the back this year compared to the glossy finish we had last year.

More Interesting Facts About,

samsung galaxy s21 ultra vs s20 ultra...

The glossy finish attracts a lot of fingerprints. In my opinion, the matte finish simply looks more elegant. I love this black ghost. There is also a Phantom Silver version available and there are also additional colors available exclusively from Samsung, so there really is something for everyone. We have IP68 water and dust resistance on both devices. They are about the same size, the s21 ultra weighs a little more but overall is a little smaller. One of the reasons is that it has a slightly smaller 6.8-inch screen compared to the 6.9 inches on the s20 ultra and us. I have the old Samsung infinity design with punch-hole edges in small bezels.
samsung galaxy s21 ultra vs s20 ultra
The bezels, I would say, are more or less the same on both devices. Now the screens share many similarities. We have dynamic amoled technology with a quad HD resolution of up to a refresh rate of 120 hertz, however, there are many improvements in the s21 ultra, first of all, the s20 ultra, although it can be up to 120 hertz, when it is at 120 hertz , it can only be in Full HD resolution on the s21 ultra, it can have maximum sharpness with maximum smoothness I have copyright on that line. One of the reasons why Samsung was able to implement this on the s21 ultra is because it has an ltpo display that supports an adaptive refresh rate that can go up to 10 hertz and all. the way up to 120 hertz depending on what you're seeing on the screen, so right now the screen is completely static, there's no need for it to be 120 hertz, this really helps save battery.
samsung galaxy s21 ultra vs s20 ultra
Now this is a newer technology that is not available on the s20 ultra the s21 ultra also has a brighter screen. I think this is the brightest smartphone screen out there. If you're someone like me who wears sunglasses frequently and uses your smartphone outdoors, you'll really appreciate this and the s21 ultra. It also has Gorilla Glass Victors. We have Gorilla Glass 6 on the S20 Ultra. Gorilla Glass Victus is much more durable. I'm not one to do drop tests but we have seen some drop tests of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra which was the first device with gorilla glass expires and works very very well now this is not to say that the s20 ultra has a bad screen by no means, it's actually a very very good screen, it's just that the s21 ultra is better and I would say it's actually the best screen on any smartphone at the moment, both screens have a slight curve in the edges, it's nothing too significant and both devices also have an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, but the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has Qualcomm's latest 3D sonic sensor. gen 2 we have the gen 1 in the s20 ultra the gen 2 scanner is about 77 bigger and about 50 percent faster now its really hard to show this on camera but overall i have noticed there are fewer glitches on the s21 s20 ultra We have a single telephoto camera with four times optical zoom in the s21 ultra.
We have two cameras with optical zoom, one with 3x magnification and the other with 10x magnification. We also have a laser autofocus sensor on the s21 ultra and this is something it didn't have on the s20 ultra which gave some focusing issues. Now, Samsung introduced many software updates to improve autofocus on the s20 ultra, however it was never absolutely perfect, the s21 ultra with its laser autofocus sensor completely solves any focusing problems. Now let's take a look at some samples, firstly the ultra wide camera. I think they both really do a very good job. I wasn't very happy with the s20's ultra-wide shots when they initially appeared, but they have again been improved with the s21 ultra's software.
It has better dynamic range, although I have found that in certain situations it can really boost shadows, resulting in some processing. I'm sure Samsung can improve this with software updates, but one of the key things we have in the s21 ultra's ultra wide camera is the fact that it has dual pixel autofocus and this allows it to refocus for macro shots. This is something I really like on the s21 ultra, you can get some really great shots with that macro camera and moving on to the main cameras we have a 108 megapixel camera on both devices, however the sensor on the s21 ultra has been improved, It's the newer version and in good light I think they both do a very good job overall, you can tell the s21 ultra has better dynamic range but one area where you will definitely notice the difference is in low light.
Look at this example: The s21 ultra only gives you a much brighter, sharper and cleaner image. Now it is one of the problems you face with a large sensor. On a smartphone, what I've discussed and in many other videos is that you have a very small plane of focus and that means things can go out of focus very quickly, especially if you're up close, so look at this image. The blade looks absolutely great, we have a good depth of field, but if you start looking towards the edges of the blade, things start to go out of focus on both devices.
Now Samsung has listened to us once again and given us a choice. To solve this, it's called focus enhancement mode, so if you get closer than 30 centimeters to a subject, this will automatically activate and use the ultra wide angle camera to keep more things in focus and as you can see, definitely it does. hand over now, the images won't look as flattering as they do with the shallow depth of field, but in certain situations it can be very useful and you can turn it on and off as you like, now the s20 ultra actually has a great zoom.
The fact that Samsung put a 100x space zoom into the camera module really took away from how good the zoom was - about 10x, which is generally what you'd use it for at most. Samsung has heard us and there is nothing like this on the s21 ultra and if you take a look at some examples here you can see that when we are three times on the s21 ultra and when we are four times on the s20 ultra the results are super sharp , we can go to 10 times and here You will start to notice the advantage of the optical zoom on the s21 ultra, especially in grass areas, things are sharper.
The s20 ultra still works great, but really when you start to notice the differences, the differences are at the more extreme zoom levels, so here it is. an example at 30 times and the s21 ultra definitely gives you a much cleaner result and then we can go up to 100 times again the s21 ultra because using that 10 times optical zoom gives you a lot more detail now. I have said this many times before and I will say it again how many times people are going to use the 100 times zoom, not many, yes if there is a signal that you want to see in the distance, maybe use it, but in general , the three. times and all 10 times are absolutely great and I'm glad Samsung didn't put this all over the camera module so the attention isn't drawn to it, the focus is on the fact that three times, 10 times, even up to 30.
Times are very, very good for selfies. We have a 40-megapixel camera on both devices, although you'll generally shoot at around 10-megapixels and again Samsung has listened. I have complained about this for many years. Samsung devices tend to illuminate your face a lot. which I'm not a fan of because it makes me see it pretty clearly. I am proud of my brown color. Well, on the s21 ultra you can switch between natural or bright selfies. It gives you that option, of course, I selected natural leather and yes. The shades are definitely much more natural compared to what was on the s20 ultra.
Look at my skin. There is definitely some softness on the s20 ultra even though everything is at zero, but I have noticed that the results on the s21 ultra's selfie camera are a little soft, you will notice in this example that the s20 ultra also gives you sharper results , although the skin tones are better on the s21 ultra, if you look at my jacket, the color is more accurate on the s20 ultra, now these are things once again. I'm sure Samsung can improve with software updates in general. I am very, very pleased with the improvement that Samsung has brought to the s21 ultra compared to the s20 ultra.
Now let's talk about video, so we have 8k at most. at 24 frames per second on both devices but on the s21 ultra you can film at 4k 60 frames per second from all cameras on the s20 ultra you can only do 4k60 from the main camera or the front camera the video quality is actually really well on both, the s21 ultra comes with some new software features so we have a single take 2.0 where it will take a lot of videos and images from all the different cameras and then compile them and we also have directors view which allows you to get a view preview of the different lenses when you're shooting this is something you don't have on the s20 ultra one of the reasons is the newer internals on the s21 ultra now let's talk about this, we have the battle of exynus versus qualcomm Once again depending on your region, you will get different versions of this, so the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset or the Samsung xs990.
Now I've talked about this in a lot of detail in my full s20 ultra review which I'll link on the cards and in the description, but in a nutshell, the Qualcomm version was simply better in terms of performance and battery life compared to the exynos version. With the s21 ultra you have the Qualcomm snapdragon 888 or the exynos 2100. Now Samsung has bought many improvements for the 2100 and in my use so far it has been very, very fast. Unfortunately, I don't have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 version of the S21 Ultra yet, however, it is on order and will arrive very soon. soon and will do a longer review of the s21 ultra with both chipsets.
If you want to watch that video first, make sure you subscribe and hit the bell icon now, the s20 ultra, although the performance is pretty good overall, the s21 ultra. being the new device with the newer internals will simply be better, we are seeing around 25 improved CPU performances and around 35 improved GPU performances now on a day to day basis, you may not notice it much but one of the things I always say that the lifespan if you get the s21 ultra, it will last you a lot longer compared to the s20 ultra and another thing to keep in mind is also the software right now, both devices have Android 11 with a UI, but s21. ultra is the newer device and will receive software updates for longer compared to the s20 ultra.
Another thing that will help improve the performance on the s21 ultra is the fact that it has ufs 3.1 storage versus ufs 3.0 storage and for storage options we actually have the same 128,256 and 512 gigabyte variants available but the s21 ultra It no longer has a micro SD card slot, the s20 ultra does, so you can expand the storage of the s20 ultra by a pretty significant amount, almost up to 1.5 terabytes if you have it. Go for the 512 gigabyte version, this is something you won't be able to do on the s21 ultra and if a micro SD card is important to you it will obviously be something you will be very disappointed to hear about the s21. ultra now let's move on to the batteries, so we actually have the same size batteries on both devices;
However, the S21 Ultra, being the newer device, has more efficient five nanometer chipsets compared to those in the S20 Ultra and I have found that overall I am getting better performance.Battery life on the S21 Ultra I've only had it for a little over a week so far, so there's a disclaimer. I will be covering battery life usage after using the s21 ultra both variants for over a month so watch out for that. Video Both devices have wireless charging up to 15 watts and both also support wireless reverse wireless charging PowerShare where you can use these devices to charge others wirelessly; however the s20 ultra does get some advantages here, firstly the s20 ultra supports faster wired charging up to 45 watts, the s21 ultra can only charge up to 25 watts wired and I guess the most important thing is that the s20 ultra comes with a 25 watt charger included out of the box, the s21 ultra this year does not come with a charger included unfortunately, I have talked about this many times, I think it is something that many people can definitely get over due to the wireless charging and other charges that You may already have, however, the fact that Samsung mocked Apple for not including a charger and did the same a few months later.
I'm just not too interested in that, but anyway, moving both devices have stereo speakers, so we have one speaker on the earpiece and another on the bottom. When fired, they both sound very, very good and let's talk about some of the additional features. Firstly, the s21 ultra comes with ultra wideband technology which will give you better connectivity and allow you to do things like track your s21 ultra even if you don't have an internet connection and also do things like use your s21 ultra as a contactless key. for your car. We also have hyper-fast Wi-Fi 6e on the S21 Ultra which can give you up to four times faster Wi-Fi speeds.
Now you'll need a compatible router to achieve those speeds, but this is something else you get on the S21 Ultra. Now, one thing you might not get on your s21 ultra unit, however, is mst support, so msd allows your phone to work with point of sale terminals that only support old fashioned magstripe cards. school. This is something we have support on all s20 ultra units, but some s21 ultra units do not have it now. This will vary depending on your region and if technical support is important to you, I would recommend speaking to your dealer before making your purchase now.
One new thing we have this year that we've never had before on a Galaxy device is s-pen support. so you can use an s-pen with the s-21 ultra now this s-pen is not included like with the note series, it is something you will have to buy separately and because there is really nowhere to put it. The S-Pen inside the S-21 Ultra will probably have to be purchased with a case unless you want to keep losing your S Pen. This is something that I think is a great addition. I'm someone who uses my s pen at most and having this feature on the s21 ultra is definitely nice to have and finally looking at the price so the s21 ultra is actually lower priced compared to the s20 last year, a slightly cheaper here in the UK but it's now slightly cheaper in the US obviously because the s20 ultra has been available for about a year the price has dropped quite a bit.
I just had a quick look and at the time of this video it's around £800 in the UK on Amazon and around $950 in the US. I'll leave some Amazon links below so, in Based on that, let's try to answer the question in case you save some money and go for the s20 ultra instead of the s21 ultra. In my opinion, you should go for the s21 ultra, especially if you are going to pre-order because Samsung currently includes the

galaxy

buzz pro and a

galaxy

smart tag; Both together are worth around £250, making the S21 Ultra a lot. more attractive offer, but I guess if you are on a budget and you are going to get an even better deal on the s20 ultra, maybe buy it second hand, then it is a very good device. overall although I would also recommend possibly checking out the note 20 ultra which brought a lot of improvements and if you currently have the s20 ultra you should upgrade to the s21 ultra that's really up to you if you are overall happy with I would recommend the s20 ultra maybe wait until we get the next version but if you want the improvements of the s21 ultra and think they will be worth it for you then I can definitely recommend the s21 ultra, it's excellent. smartphone overall, I want to go back to the fact that Samsung really took the feedback into account and gave us all the improvements we requested, that's what I think anyway, what do you guys think?
