Samsung Galaxy S20+ (FULL S20 PLUS REVIEW)

Mar 31, 2024
Welcome back to the channel. What you're looking at here is the Samsung Galaxy S 20 plus, which is essentially the Samsung flagship phone you'd get if you didn't want a six-point-nine-inch screen that cost a dollar and a half. thousand dollars and that's not to say that it's a small screen or that it's especially cheap, but it's more of a size that I personally prefer, which is why I chose this one and Samsung made some pretty big improvements here, so no screen battery processor improved and cameras we'll talk about all that later in the video, but I don't want this to be just a slideshow of images comparing these images with the super zoom with the iPhone and with the pixel like there's a lot of that.

If that's what you're looking for, there are plenty of other videos, but in this video I really want to put this phone through its paces and dig deeper, so in this video I'm breaking things down into five categories of what you need to know. about this phone before considering buying it, so first thing of course is just a physical tour. I'll show you what we're working with and what this phone is really about. Then the second thing is Samsung's claims about this phone. Pretty bold claims so I want to put them to the test and see if they are true and how well they actually work or if there is a lot of hype mixed in with it.

The third thing is some of Samsung's distinctive features. talk about some of the test results I had specifically with the camera to show you how well the camera really works and lastly I want to talk about some of the pros and cons of this phone because there are definitely some drawbacks that many others The

s may not mention them, so I want to make sure you know about them before you go out and buy this phone. With that said, let's get to the first thing, which is a physical tour of this phone, right away. Looking at this phone, you can see that it has a six point seven inch screen, so it is a very large screen, but honestly, the phone is not as big as I expected considering the screen size, so Samsung definitely trimmed the bezels on the top and bottom compared to the s10 and it feels pretty good, it's not too heavy, it's a pretty easy phone to use as I have reasonably large hands, but it fits nicely in my palm and doesn't i have trouble using it then you will see that the camera is now a center punch hole camera at the top it is smaller than what we saw in the s10 series and at the bottom of this screen we have the ultrasonic fingerprint sir which is essentially the same technology they used in the s10. series, although there may be some newer technology out there and I have some issues with that, I'll talk about that later in the video and then I'll look at the rest of this phone honestly, besides the huge screen that's hard not to look at.

You will see on the right side again similar to the note 10 in the button layout here where we have the power button. They call it the side key because it does more than just turn on, so you can obviously turn your phone's screen on or off. with a single tap, but if you tap it twice you can open the camera or you can call up an app, like Spotify, or you can open Snapchat, for example, pretty much any app you want and then if you triple tap it, you can send. an SOS to someone, which is the classic like sending a picture, placing a marker on a map and adding as an audio recording, if you're in trouble, could be a good thing, although I found it a bit annoying. which is only three presses because sometimes if you're in a place where you want to take a photo and you try to take it and double tap to get the camera, it's pretty easy to accidentally triple tap and if you don't have good phone service, someone could be really worried if it's too far away then we have the volume buttons that do exactly what you think they will do and at the top we have our microphone right next to our SD card slot and that is also the SIM tray so you take it out the SIM card, the SD card, whatever you want and on the left side we have absolutely nothing.

It's a nice, smooth design on the left side and at the bottom you'll see that we have USB Type C, essentially audio. port charging port whatever it's going to be everything is there and notice I said audio port there because I think we need to have a moment of silence. Samsung resisted for a long time, but they're finally getting rid of the headphone jack, so keep quiet. The r.i.p connector is no longer on this phone, now we have a speaker there and a microphone. Flipping the phone on the back, you'll notice that it has a glass finish, making the entire phone IP68 waterproof.
On the front you will see that it is Gorilla Glass six it is quite strong and durable you shouldn't have to worry too much about that and on the back like I said you will see that you have a solid color here and there are several colors that you can find for this phone, so it includes black, gray cloud, blue, white and red cloud. I'll show them on the screen so you can see them right now and then of course you'll also notice that you have a camera bump on the top left, now the camera bump for the s20.
Also, here it's not as big as we saw for the s20 ultra, which is just huge for the 10x zoom, but here you'll see that you have three usable cameras, then we have the pair of depth cameras and then we have the flash on top right and we have a pretty big microphone and I will test all of this later in the video, but speaking of the cameras, the front camera is a 10 megapixel selfie camera and it also shoots in 4k, I will test the quality of that later in the part Later we have the 12 megapixel wide angle lens which is its main shooter and which will be quite good for the night, it is a very open F 1.8 which is quite good for low light shots then we have the 12 megapixel ultra wide angle which is a very good sensor and the sixty-four megapixel telephoto lens that has a 3x optical zoom.
This phone is capable of recording a K. All cameras can record in 4k, but only the telephoto lens records images in 8k. Now I know a lot. Those of you who are in the market to buy a phone might want to see a comparison between this and the regular s20 or even the s10 line, so I'll be making videos on those in the next few days, so if you want to check them out, be sure to check them out. do it. click the subscribe button and the bell icon so you don't miss when they come out, so next let's get into Samsung's big claims about this phone, obviously, they're all over their website, they talked about them everywhere, this is what I found.
As the most important things that Samsung has been emphasizing with this phone, the first is a revolutionary camera experience. Now the things that changed with this are the zoom, resolution, night photos, 8k video, stability and single shot mode. all that and try them. I'll show you some examples. Let's get into that right now. This is the front camera shooting in 4k. Let me know how it sounds. It actually shoots 4k 60, but here it's 4k 30. Yeah, my hands are shaking a little, but it seems to stabilize pretty well, so comment, let me know how the mic sounds and what the video looks like here.
Okay, now I'm recording an 8k video looking at the cactus right there and then. take this video when I edit it I'll zoom in and you'll see a 2x zoom and then a 4x zoom so essentially it will be 4k and 1080 to see how high quality it really is and it looks although there is reasonable light here. I'm indoors there seems to be a bit of noise so when recording in 8k you'll need a lot of light to get a clearer image probably in broad daylight and outdoors it's ok so now I've enabled super mode stable, as you can see.
It looks great, almost like it's on a gimbal and I'm a little shaky right now and it still looks pretty good, but you're limited to only having two of your three cameras, so you can go here or you can zoom out. there and even if you shake it a lot it kind of warps a little at the edges but overall I would say it looks pretty good looking at the pictures then you will see in daylight in the ultra wide mode versus the normal wide both. see great images, very high dynamic range, very good contrast, very good color and honestly when you zoom in 10x might be my best photo, it's also very sharp once you get to 20X it gets a little grainy and then 30 X is not really usable.
If you take a photo at night you will see that the normal camera is actually a really good camera, it has a very large aperture so you collect a lot of light there and it looks pretty sharp once we zoom in, although you will see that it has a a little more grain, a little more noise and then with the ultra wide, in the same way, this might be the worst, where a lot of weird things happen at the edges, if we go indoors at night, you'll see that the ultra The normal wide angle lenses look pretty good, they have pretty good color, pretty good white balance, but as we get closer you'll see that it doesn't really do a good job with the 10x or 30x images and it looks almost Nothing now, when you look at these selfies you'll see that the standard selfie has a lot of softening on my face, but otherwise it's a pretty good color, it brightens my face too much, but otherwise I have to say I like it now, for On the other hand, the live view brightens the glow on my face a lot more and it actually looks really bad, so if you look closely at my face, I'll zoom in here and you'll see that it almost looks like I have like a skin disease or something. well, so I'm not sure what was going on there, but it's definitely not what you want to see here and then if we look at the standard selfie compared to the rear camera, you'll see that the rear camera is obviously a lot sharper and I think which overall has better color capture than the front so the next thing I really emphasized is 5 G, that depends a lot on where you live, to me five g is pretty uneven if you like Manhattan in the middle.
You might get 5g obviously 5g is very very fast but for most people I wouldn't buy this phone for 5g so its future proofing it will be good if you keep it for several years and 5g could be coming very soon but I wouldn't understand it and expect to have the highest speeds right away unless you already live next to a 5g tower. The third big thing Samsung talked about with this phone is the battery life, which has a 4,500 milliamp hour battery. I've been getting exceptional battery life on this phone and I've had the brightness, I probably mean it's adaptive brightness, usually around 50 percent or something like that and it easily lasts a whole day without any issues and easily up to the middle of the next day, so the next statement they made was the security of this phone, so they said there is a secure processor dedicated to protecting you, so if they say secured by Knox on everything and something I want to comment on, on reality is that the fingerprint sensor is kind of There's a little drawback here and also the facial recognition, so the facial recognition that starts with that is definitely not the most secure facial recognition out there, they used to have iris scanning, Now they use image comparison, they take a photo of you and store it. and they are comparing everything you look at when you log in, so does it work?
It is safe? Yes, for most users it's probably fine, but if you're really concerned about security it's probably better than facial recognition. I want to talk about it. the screen protector very quickly here last year the s10 had some issues with this where if you took off the screen protector that it came with and put your own on and if it wasn't great and had texture then the fingerprint sensor Fingerprint may be reading the texture instead of your fingerprint, which means anyone can log in, which is why Samsung issued a statement saying to remove third-party screen protectors.
I did it maybe a month later, I had a scratch on my fingerprint sensor like on the screen there, which means it's now reading a scratch plus my fingerprint, which was definitely not secure, so I disabled fingerprint and I only use one pin on my previous phone, so one concern I have with this phone is also the last big thing that Samsung emphasized was the 120 Hertz refresh rate, which means your phone feels very smooth when you put it on. You swipe, it just looks like a smooth, fluid experience, but then you'll be looking at a 1080p screen, so you won't be able to use the

full

resolution with which at the moment there may be an update where they'll eventually let you do that, but I imagine that will actually drain your battery much faster, so you're probably watching this video at 30 frames per second, so the best way for me to show you this is with a slow motion video, so first I'll show you 60 Hertz, which is the standard refresh rate of mostphones, and now here is 120 Hertz so you can see it's significantly smoother and it looks really good, so just to show you what the screen is like. looks like and we will give you a quick test of the speakers, let's play a video very quickly comment your opinions, the Apple earpods Pro and the new Samsung Galaxy buds plus are two of the best truly wireless earbuds, they both have wireless charging, they both have great features, They both claim to have the best call quality, but how exactly do they stack up next to each other to access some of the Samsung-exclusive features I mentioned earlier?
This has Bixby in there, if you hold down the side key you can turn off your phone or you can invoke Bixby, no one really uses Bixby, honestly this runs 1ui 2.0, as you can see it's a skin on Android from the looks of it a little different, but it's pretty smooth, works great and I don't have any problems with it. I also added some really cool features, like categories in messages, so you can categorize different conversations and some other things that are really new to the features of Samsung. They now have Spotify and Netflix integration with bixby so it would be nice if I'm trying to move on to liking the kind of honestly useless stuff on the side so if you swipe home from the left you become like Samsung Daly, you can now have Spotify there, a small bonus for an otherwise useless feature on the phone. and they also have Google Duo video chat integration, which is pretty cool, among a lot of other things here, so you can listen to dual Bluetooth audio, something that's really nice with this phone, as well as some older Samsung phones, so you can hear. two different headphones at the same time, like you and a friend can listen to music, and we also have other things, like if you want to share, you can share quickly, like with other Samsung phones, you can share using links where it's visible. thing that you can download or watch online for a while, many other things that Samsung includes here, they have so many features that it seems a bit noisy and even after using the s10 for a whole year, there are features that I never used or never saw the need of using it, then if we go to the left of the photo you have the single shot mode, which I think everyone is a little confused with this, it's like it takes all the strangest Samsung features, like black and white and It's like kind of a boomerang and it puts them all into one, so you take a short video and it just gives you a bunch of images that you can use, which seems a little pointless, honestly, but I mean, if you want to use it, comment. below otherwise the photos themselves work fine, you also have a floating shutter and of course the thing from Samsung that is in selfie mode, if you raise your hand they will identify it and take a selfie, a really cool feature.
Got there, so now let's talk about the pros and cons of this phone. Actually, I'm not going to talk much about the advantages because this whole video is nothing but advantages. I think overall it's an excellent phone. I think Samsung really nailed it. they have all the features you could want, they have an amazing screen to body ratio, beautiful screen, really fast refresh rate, the camera block looks great on the back, you have wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, like really a Complete package of everything most people could want. On a phone they have it here and I will also show the specifications right there.
It looks like a great phone, but there are some drawbacks that I must mention in this video, one of them is the current price. I get that you're getting a lot for the money here, but $1200 is very expensive when buying a phone, so it's definitely a drawback worth mentioning Secondly, as I mentioned above, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor isn't the best , so there's actually The newest technology out there I think it's called 3d Sonic Max. However, I'm not sure of the name and it should be improved on this so they don't have the newest thing out there right now.
Another drawback comes with a user interface here, so having Bixby. built into this, I know you can change the key to summon like you know different apps and stuff like that, but the tap and hold feature if you could summon Google Assistant instead of Bixby, that would be really nice and then also if we swipe the finger from the Remains if you couldn't have Samsung Daly. I think it would be better as Samsung Daly. It seems like a waste of space that you would otherwise use for something a little more efficient. It's a unique user interface, it's not really this type of phone. but it's definitely worth mentioning in this video and lastly, the lack of a headphone jack is definitely worth mentioning.
I don't have a big problem with that, I mean, I have a ton of wireless headphones and pre-ordering means I have wireless headphones anyway. I bought the Galaxy Buds Plus, so I think most people who get them wouldn't have any problems. They also come with the USB Type C headphone cable, but if you are in a car like an older one and it has a headphone jack. I'll have to buy a little adapter guys that's all I have to say about the

galaxy

s 20 plus. Here I will buy the s20 and

review

it in the next few days, as well as compare the two and compare them to the s10. so if you want to check them out make sure you go down and click on the subscribe button and the bell icon comment.
Let me know what you think about this phone. This is the one you will buy. Do you think others will buy it? I want to hear from you, as always, thank you all for watching. See you next time.
