Rovan VS losi… which is ACTUALLY better?

Apr 18, 2024
Hey guys, in today's video we are going to compare a genuine lossy Roven LT 5T q2a and

which

one should you buy if you go for the genuine Losi or if you go for the clone

which

is like a thousand dollars cheaper. First, I can say it. In my opinion I would buy the rovin because saving a thousand dollars is definitely worth it, but I will tell you what you should immediately change in the rovin if you go that route and what the real quality differences are between the two trucks because obviously I have both here, but no You can tell this is a Roven because of the junk I have now, but I'll take the top off and we'll take a look at the Losi. and the rovin is fine, so when comparing the two trucks they are obviously not in stock, but what I am going to compare is basically the quality of the plastics.

The wheels, the tires, the bearings, the components that are in them, like differentials, just things like that. I guess the first thing to start with is the wheels and tires, so these are from a 5B, these are Proline, something more like Proline fiscal or runaways, that's what they're called, Proline Fifth Scale tires, um, but the rim and the original tire. on the Roven LT there are those guys that are the copy of Losi Nomads that use tires that were included on the 5T 1.0 and were a direct copy, you can

actually

see it, so there is a nomad right there, that is a Roven LT tire . so literally exactly the same tire um and whatever they feel perfectly fine, strong tires, I haven't had any problems with that.

More Interesting Facts About,

rovan vs losi which is actually better...

I did a full racing season with these tires on this truck, um, and it worked perfectly fine now that I didn't race the truck. So, by the way, I took all the good crap off of this truck, put it on that one and yeah, anyway, that doesn't matter, but the rims, wheels and tires on the original truck are perfectly fine, for the Roven , just like the low C5 T. 1.0, in my opinion, have the same quality. Now we're moving into, oh, you know what I'm going to do with the body fit, so stock on the Roven LT.

There were

actually

some issues with body fit etc. the cage on the truck here you have these slots here that are supposed to be flush against the front you know the same thing with 5T um and they denote his little back and then when you put the body that he had you had to like go underneath and pull that forward so it fits properly, where on the 5T you don't. I just noticed the difference between the parts and maybe that's why I'm having that problem with it, but the fit of the truck cage wasn't the best now if you look at the quality of the plastic, the Roven Plastics quality is well, they are very, very flexible plastics, right, which is what you want, but you can definitely notice the low grip plastic because There's a wow, the English one is much higher quality, um, but is it really that noticeable?

I'm going to say no, um, but you take it how you want, now we're going to go with the transmission, um, actually, no. I'm going to go to the shock towers, the aluminum feels like very good quality, right. I've bent this rear shock tower before and it's been replaced, so it's definitely not the strongest now, I don't know compared to the low C shock towers. They both seem exactly the same thickness, um, I don't know if It would have happened in a 5T and in the Roven, I don't know if in the same situation, this is how it would have been the same as this one. um but I bent one so it's worth noting now the shocks feel good they're a little stiff not as soft as the five T's so I bought this truck new and this truck I rebuilt so it's basically the Same as New, um, but these are much worse than the 5T shocks.
The 5T shocks are much softer and butterier, maybe if I rebuild them they will be

better

but I put them in like a good diff flute or not, diff fluid, shock oil, blood, whatever because I don't know what's in it on this and then yeah, so that's the quality of those bearings, tensioners, all that stuff, they all feel good, they're definitely not that strong, um, I ended up breaking the bottom of a shock on the run one at a time. from my races, luckily someone had a Losi spare, so no problem, the chassis is fine too, all the machine marks, cutouts, all the gaps or whatever.
I can't think of the right word, but all the holes in the bottom of the chassis are fine, they'll line up fine, all the screws are stuck in there perfectly fine, so the quality is good, same as with the 5T, it's exactly the same, obviously this is higher quality, but in my opinion, the same quality now in the grade. of the metal I don't know if 5T is a little stronger. I imagine it's a stronger metal than this, but you know who knows. Now the transmission on this truck comes with the 36cc Roven, at least this one had a 36cc Roven engine, uh with one of these Roven clutches that are horrible in my opinion.
I think they're like an 8,000 RPM clutch compared to these, which I think are 5,000 on the zanoas, so, uh, stock Roven truck, it just feels like the clutch engages really late. a little lazy and slow considering it was a 36. um so as soon as I bought this truck I bought it as a NOAA g320 RC too so basically I took that motor out and put it in my dbxl and put the g320 in here. um on the stock roof truck, sorry, it also comes with a tuning tube, but as you can see, it's not here or on this truck, so here's the stock furnace tube and it feels nice and sturdy, just like you feel the metal. well, the welds are all pretty decent, no leaks anywhere, I don't know, it sounded great, it was pretty sick, but I ended up breaking it, there's a bracket here, it's supposed to go vertical and then it bolts to the motor.
I think and it screws on at this point here, um, but that ended up breaking one of my runs, this mount ended up

losi

ng, so basically all that was holding my tubing was the coupling, uh, to the head, which obviously works great. I'm going to put it. that went back there so the pipe ended up breaking partially my fault because I didn't have that other support but it broke so it sucks so luckily I ended up having someone who had a regular can so I threw it away to move on um filter air and all that perfectly fine in the Roven is not ideal but any air filter cleans the air um now one thing I did notice with this um you can actually see there's a little play there um I digress a bit bit, so the differentials didn't feel very good when I took it straight out of the box, they didn't feel amazing uh, I left it as it was.
I don't remember if it was a track day or if it was if I just drove it but I noticed that there's a lot of fluid, you know, on a line like the one here, so you know. I looked around the truck a bit and noticed that this differential was leaking, all the fluid was coming from this. differential, so this is a two piece aluminum differential compared to the Low Sea ones, like you know the original plastic ones, but you're like, oh sick, you know it's an already upgraded aluminum housing, so it should be stronger, but the thing is that it is very On the front, the losses are one piece, so this piece is one piece and then you screw the spur on it, but these you also screw them to the face, so They are two pieces.
I guess I get our three pieces, but there's no joint on that face. so you can tighten those bolts as much as you want, which I did and all the fluids come out so there's just no gasket that emits crap, why wouldn't you have a gasket that I could make to put a gasket maker in and I? I'm sure it would seal, but I'll leave it because either I'm going to sell this truck or it won't sell. I'm going to beat it up, so there's that and then the rear differential. This doesn't feel very good at all.
I don't know, just maybe there's no fluid in it. I really should take this truck apart, but I don't, but it doesn't feel very good. This differential doesn't feel very good. The front diff feels good, so I guess you'd say a drop or three is good. Original servos. Roven servos. uh, they work fine. The steering doesn't have the most torque, it's not the best servo for it, but it works and they still work, obviously. still on the truck, look how that is, but I also noticed when I was playing that there's a lot of movement on that dog bone, so I don't know if I blew a bearing or something or what am I going to see if it's the same on the, we'll see there's not as much play, look, that's a considerable amount, um, and the brakes on this one too, so stalking Lucy 1.0, I don't know about the 2.0 um, there's a little spring on it. brakes so when the brake compresses it pushes back to open so those springs came here where the 1.0 didn't and I'm comparing this to the 1.0 um which is a must upgrade because you step on the brakes and they stick, which happened.
For me a couple of times during the race even with the springs something strange still happens at the breaks so I don't know what's going on here but anyway the gas tank was perfectly fine too no more problems with the same quality as the low seats, probably. Exact same tank to be honest with you, probably from the same manufacturer, only thing is my lines were very very short so they are cutting them to make it fit. I don't know if you can see it but I can't go in the mount because it's necessary, they needed to be more feline but they didn't so basically I would go with a Roven truck instead of the 5T based solely on its economy, like it's close of a thousand Canadian dollars anyway. so I don't know, it's not the same quality as one of these trucks, the Losi, but it's still a very high quality truck and honestly, it ran very, very well when I raced on the track, but hey, I'll compare it to this a little bit more next year because I just built it but it felt perfectly fine, I did the jumps well, um, yeah, I didn't really break anything and I just beat it up when I was on the track, so I don't know, no it's so bad, the only real thing i guess you know is to swap that shitty 36 for the zanoa g320, leave the stock tube in there, make a couple more upgrades, ride it and you should really be good, other than what you know, maybe see this. deaf and the other differentials but you may have this it may just be a matter of bad luck and they still work so I'm sure if I take it apart and check it I'm sure it just needs a different fluid which I have there , so maybe I will one day, but in my opinion, I would still pass the Roven over the Losi nine times out of ten because this truck just the price is astronomically cheap, astronomically cheaper than the Losi, but Yeah, no I know that's up to you but in my opinion this truck is still worth it, it sucks it's a direct clone of a company they are literally copying it and profiting from it but it is what it is as a consumer those companies are as big as Horizon Hobby now owns Losi, which is why they are so big.
Do you really think you are missing out on that much money if you go buy a clone? I would not love it. rather, as a consumer, I save my money and put it toward

better

things, like upgrading the truck or whatever, but as a consumer who cares if it's a clone or not, you save a thousand dollars, so I don't know. I'll tell you what you want, but also at the track no one knew this was a clone, no one said anything, they didn't notice it, a lot of people drive it and said it ran very, very well, so yeah, take that as you will.
It is what it is, I like it, the only reason I'm selling it is because I ended up buying genuine Losi and kitted it out to the nines as you can see, so yeah, anyway, I hope that helped clear it up. and I left my opinion on Roven versus Losi um yeah I would buy this truck any day to find the money on the motor and I still have extra money to get upgraded servos and whatever else you guys want so anyway thank you all for uh . Looking and I hope this helped you mm-hmm
