I learned how it destroys lives, brutalizes children, inflicts unspeakable horror on the innocent, and I also learned the resilience of the human spirit and its infinite capacity. healing, forgiving and restoring El Salvador is where I came to understand war but, more importantly, it is where I also came tounderstanding peace, that's what inspired me to my first political action in high school at the beginning of the Iraq war.
