This is the Retron 5, a video game console that I've wanted to

for practically forever but I couldn't get my hands on one until now. Look at this little box here that takes old retro video games and plays them in high definition using the original cartridges. It's time to check this out, come on, this little box here is a pretty capable little system, it's capable of running a lot of different games from a lot of retro video game consoles like the NES and Famicom without the need for a cartridge. Of conversation. Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and even the Game Boy events Game Boy Color and Game Boy and all of this projected on your screen in beautiful 720p, sure it's not 1080p but at least it takes those old video game cartridges you have in your home right now. and it kind of improves them on your modern TV, well Shane how is this different from a retro video game console?

Well, we are a disembodied voice from inside my head, this system, unlike the retro consoles I mentioned, is actually a kind of emulation box even though it has the cartridges, what it does is extract all the information from the inside the cartridge and run it through an Android-type operating system and then project it on the screen. They were the original retro game consoles I was talking about there, well they didn't have them. Do that, the hardware just projected it onto your screen and in a really crazy, interesting, fun way that we're not going to get into in this video.

All you need to know is that this thing is an emulation box that runs real cartridges, which is cool. but what games can it run? Ask me. Well, let's take a look. We tried a bunch of random games just to see what would happen, and of course classics like Super Mario Brothers on the NES and Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis worked perfectly. super sharp thanks to the better resolutions, but we decided to try some less talked about games like Zul and its fast-paced platformer Worlds of Tetris on GPA because well, it's Tetris spider-man RC pro-am RBI baseball desert strike pilot wings bust- a -move and super mario deluxe in gameboy color and out of this world or another world as it is also known and even a Super Famicom game I had called militia that worked well in one case, however, I had a problem with the classic NES ice hockey since then.

I had an issue where the cartridge wasn't reading correctly and it created some visual artifacts on the screen, but heck, if you're a classic gamer, you probably know how to fix this problem, which of course isn't blowing on the cartridge like crazy and instead , gently wipe the connectors with a dry swab outside of the ice hockey, which worked after I cleaned it. Each game ran great as if we were running on its original hardware, so I thought it was time to run some really tough tests. I entered Controller 2 into the GBA which, believe it or not, uses a 3D engine in a fully explorable 3D world.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 for the character models that are also made in 3D extreme racing events and in Tokyo, which were practically all from Super Pixley to 3D in the old Gameboy events. Hardware Retron 5 ran all games perfectly while I was on my little 3D kick. I threw the hard drive at a fairly low level. frame rate port of the arcade classic on Sega Genesis starfox, which is still my favorite FX chip test game, and Virtua racing, which is the closest thing to fast-moving 3D effects games on the original Sega Genesis hardware and they all ran without any problems as long as you consider HDD in a good game on Sega Genesis because it's not, it's really bad and I swear that game will be a positive episode one day, but anyway most of the official games released in the console they should work fine. but from time to time you will have problems with knockoff cards, most of these cartridges use multi level menu systems which can cause big problems with a Retron 5, but hey, if you are buying dubbed Retron 5 games, I think it is You might need to re-evaluate the whole reason you're buying one of these things, even cars like the everdrive, which is es

ially a ROM loading device for use on original hardware, won't work on the

retron

5 at all, speaking of things that won't work.
Working console add-ons like the Sega CD and 32x are simply not an option. See those devices use these connection ports and stuff like that, and while the Retron 5 just doesn't have them, any gun based game will trigger like hunting, but you won. You won't be able to play it as you'll be playing on a completely different TV than those devices were originally designed for, but the retron 5 has the ability to use the NES Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis controllers using their original input connections. so because you can use a lot of really strange and obscure third party controllers with the retron 5.
Now of course not everything is going to work because some of them were very specialized in the way they were designed, but many like it. the ones with turbo buttons work perfectly and that's if you're like me and enjoy using those really stupid controllers with turbo buttons. I don't know why it's something I enjoy but at least with the retron 5 you still have the ability to use them, you can use any controller with any game as long as you have enough buttons for the specific game in mind, so if you want to play Sloth the Hedgehog with a SNES controller, go crazy, but don't let Sega catch you.
If you do that or they might ask you to cease and desist, this also means that if you want to take one of those really crazy third party controllers I was talking about and use them to play on a completely different system, they weren't designed for that, you can do that and that's really cool. Well, now comes the worst part of this console. This is the controller that ships with the Retron 5 and it's pretty bad. I know what you're thinking you're seeing. This thing goes, what the hell is it then you know what I have the same thought?
For a system that is capable of playing all those old systems, they made a driver that doesn't resemble any of the original system drivers, not even a little bit. -pad itself looks more like something that sits in a Neo Geo pocket and makes a bit of a click and is strange and isn't a good deep pad which is unfortunate now the good news is that you can actually use original NES Super Nintendo or any of those controllers here and they work perfectly fine, in fact you can use some controllers like the SNES mouse as if they were originally designed for Super Nintendo, but not only the Super Nintendo mouse has the ability to add a cursor to the main menu. of this thing and you can operate the entire retron 5 main menu with the mouse, which is great, what you can't do is connect a USB keyboard or a USB mouse, so unfortunately, if you have a copy of Mario Paint, you have going out and finding a really hard to find Super Nintendo mouse just to play it, that sucks oh and this console also can't run things like weapon cons or complicated parts like that, just some things work here and that. the ones that work great, the ones that don't work, don't work at all, but this controller, as I was saying, should be avoided, it's not good, there are a ton of buttons here, in fact, on most of the buttons I can think of the Sega Genesis, the 6 button controller, has more buttons than that controller for some strange reason and I don't know why they made some of the buttons on it somewhat customizable and you can make them do a bunch of things except one.
Some of the buttons just hold still or fast forward through games, something I don't like because fast forwarding through games usually ruins the emulation in some cases or you miss something in the game and it's just not something which I really like but it's there and you can use it if you want but I think the worst problem with this controller is its overall shape and design, it's awkward and boxy and not comfortable to use with very sharp corners and even though it has like 13 buttons, I'm not going to use all those 13 buttons which I'm not a big fan of.
I would have preferred them to have something more like a Sega Genesis 6 button controller or just a variation of the 6th button on a Super Nintendo controller which would have been cool but this controller isn't for everyone, it's wireless so that's it but I think you're much better off sticking with one of the original controllers that you can easily connect to this system, although there is one interesting thing. Look, look, the controller actually just sits in the back here, oh, it doesn't charge it. I just stayed there because you needed it. As you can see, the Retron 5 is a pretty capable system that can do a lot of things. it may not do everything the original retro systems used to do, but it does enough that you can ignore it by not being able to run Sega CD or anything else.
I'm happy with the way they designed this. but I think they could do more next time on Retron 6 if that happens like I said but get your own controller because if you come to the party with one of these you will regret it this is just a terrible controller but the console works so well with a lot of retro games that if you can use an original controller you don't need this piece of garbage so in closing you should get this if you like retro video games and especially if you have a huge collection of retro video games if you ever want to play Megaman and you want to make save states in random parts.
Well, this is the way to go if you want to cheat in games. There is also a cheat library here. There are a lot of things this system does but no matter what you have to keep your cartridges because this won't save your library to some internal hard drive like it should but it doesn't because I guess they wanted to stop piracy of the games that were released in anyway, mid 90's, for some reason I think it's a body and hell, it'll probably be on my shelf for a long time.
