I love it it's very very easy we actually wrote the pattern for two and a half inch strips or fat quarters so I love it because it's small we get a lot of requests for fat quarter compatible projects so if you've been searching. To get started this is it you just need four different green fat quarters and some background fabric and write down the pattern we ordered our patterns from our dear friends in Texas and of course they are coming out of that terrible storm so we are having some delays in receiving those patterns and the printed copies, but you can get the digital pattern online so it is available now and you can go ahead and add the printed one to your wish list if you want, but I'll explain how.

make

three for this table runner so keep that in mind for each block you will need four two and a half inch squares of your background fabric one four and a half inch square and four four and a half by eight and a half inch rectangles covering your background and then your greens.

I just went with these beautiful kona solids and they remind me of Liz our colors, we have Kelly Kelly. shamrock shamrock so close so close kelly clover pistachio and mint that's right, okay, those are our four four colors and look at them, they are so beautiful, I love them all together and I think it's a really beautiful project, etc. What are you going to have, you know a b c and d you will see that in the pattern and of your fabrics a and b which are my two lightest ones that I have selected here you are going to need two um two and a half by four and a half inch rectangles and four two and a half inch squares and that's on both fabrics and then for your c and d fabrics, which are my two darkest shades, you will have three of your two and one half inch squares, a two and a half inch by four and a half inch rectangle and a two and a half by six and a half inches, so those are the pieces you need to build your block.

Remember that this is per block that I have given you. so just multiply that by however long you want to make your runner or your quilt if you want and let me show you how this works because this is a project that's really about laying out the block and making sure you get the right colors where you need them, you can see the block here. We're really just making this block and then we can rotate it to match our colors and that gives us this beautiful interlocking fabric that you see in the runner here, which is very pretty, isn't it cool?
I love it so let's talk about how to style it because it's not difficult but you just have to look at it. I caught myself putting the wrong color in the wrong place, but I always start by just placing. Take out my center and work around it so I'm going to use my block as a reference so I recommend that if you know buy the pattern or even check out this tutorial just to look at the block for reference when we start and then we're going to take our two two and a half inch by four and a half inch light colored rectangles and one of them goes on each side of our square and we can go ahead and sew this together so let's go ahead. and take this to the machine and we'll sew them together.
We love the beautiful greens, they are so pretty. Chelsea says this would be cute in other colorways too. You guys definitely do this project, it's so fun and easy, and then. Show us the colors. I really want to try it with flowers. I think it would be beautiful for spring. It would be very good. Also great with prints so you can see. I just used my quarter inch seam and sewed it on either one. side, let's go ahead and press this and I press towards the dark side so that my seam moves away from my center and I follow that rule and press towards the darker fabric as I go through this project because it does so.
It's a lot easier to manage my seams and make sure they fit together well, so there's the beginning of my center, so now we're going to take and we're going to pin. I've turned this around now, I'm still searching. on my block so now we have our dark that goes on top and this will be combined with a two and a half inch square of the same color that is here and then the opposite color on the bottom and this two and a half inch square . square and you can see what it looks like. I actually have some of these already sewn, so let me swap them out for you.
Make sure you grab them just to save us some time, so just a couple quick questions and comments. Donna says: Can I make placemats? with this block you could absolutely have a nice square size and you can always add a little more if you wanted rectangles. um, copper says I may have missed it, but there's no quilt version of this yet, but I'm working on it. So now we just have the table runner, but I'm hoping to make this a full size quilt too because I think it's a really fun pattern. As you can see here, we just placed our two and a half inch squares on our six and a half inch rectangles and we want to match our same colors because we're trying to create that fabric without having Y seams, so now we can go ahead and take these and sew on each side and this is going to make our center segment just make sure we're nice and aligned and I just want to nest my seam down here.
I have that place where I want to make sure that they match well and then the same thing on the other side and I would like to start with the center first because then I know exactly where my colors are going to go and I can build from there, there we go and we can press this to open. Oh, Tinas just ordered and downloaded the pattern. Oh, that's amazing. Tina and Leticia say. Then I can order this download. Yes, right now the downloadable PDF pattern is available and you can get it in our description. On our supply list, the print pattern is on the way and will be here soon.
If you want the printing pattern. sent by mail, go ahead and add it to your wish list and we will email you as soon as it arrives at our warehouse. Okay, so here's the middle part of our block, we have our beautiful four shades of green that are surrounding that. center square and now we can take and start building the outside, so our four and a half by eight and a half inch rectangles are going to go on all the long sides here, so let's go ahead and place them where they need to go. and then we will use the remaining pieces that we have laid out to build the rest of this block and let me show you how this works and then reference again the pattern or your block because each block needs It will be done the same way.
I know when you look at the table runner, they all look a little different, but all we do is rotate them, so make sure you assemble the block the same way, so we have this one here. which now means I need this nice pistachio color to go to this corner and you'll run into this here and if I can find it there, they go, I lost them on my machine, they're running away, they're running away from the white like then I'm going to go ahead and keep going. doing this until we have all our pieces where they need to go, this one goes here and this one goes here and Deborah says this is great to make with leftover gelatin strips.
Great idea, that's a really good idea, so Melanie Grace, this is a new pattern, so it's not in one of the block journals above. Yes, this is a completely new design. Okay, and then this one goes here and this one goes here, so let's talk about it. how we assemble these corners, all we're going to do is start by putting our two two and a half inch squares together so that our background and our color go ahead and sew them together, there we go and then we'll press this and Now you can see, since we've taken that seam that will perfectly match our two and a half inch by four and a half inch rectangle right there, so we'll put those right sides together.
You must monitor the orientation of these. because that's how you're going to get the interlocking pattern that we want and I just want to read it again. You're making all your blocks the same way, exactly the same, so even though it looks like you're making three different blocks, we're actually making one block and we're going to rotate it, we'll show you here in just a minute, yeah, okay, so let's press that back and Phyllis says, Can I use all solid color to make the chain? but you wouldn't see the interlocks correctly, you would lose part of that design.
I would recommend at least using two colors like the ones you see here. You could have the same color here and the same color here and here and it would still give you enough. variety in which you would get those interlocking, but I recommend at least two colors, that's a big question, okay though, so I went ahead and sewed the rest of these corners, so let me change them, oops, that's the one I ended up with to do, here we go. so let's take these out, you can see how this is really starting to come together now, here's this one and this one and now what's left is we're going to snowball the corners of our rectangles and so you can see, here I have You went ahead and hit a line, you can draw a line if you want, but we're just going to place them on the blocks that they need to go into.
Oops, that's actually wrong, that's why you should look, this one goes here because Look, you can see it's going to make this chain and it's going to go through and then this one goes here and when you take them to the sewing machine, you'll notice that let me pick this up and move it because the top and bottom colors are the same, but they actually go on opposite sides when you make a snowball, so you can see this one here. We have the exact same colors on these two, but they are on opposite sides. Okay, so keep that in mind, so I'll sit in the back. instead, I hope you can see this on the top camera and then we'll go ahead and put our snowballs on these so this dark green goes here on this side and here and here and here, so it's not so cool and now remember. make a snowball, we should go ahead and sew one of these, let's make one, let's go ahead and take one of these to the machine, we're just going to open this up, I'm going to make sure it's the point of the square that I'm adding.
It matches the tip of my rectangle exactly and I'm going to sew from corner to corner right on that pressed line, not on either side, and if you have the diagonal seam tape, that's a great trick too because you can just keep the tip of your snowball piece there and that's going to make sure that you're going to use the liner so there's one and then I just turn around and do the other side and when you're making snowballs, are you going to check that before? You trim it, I usually do, yeah, unless it's really off, although I find that they almost always work well because you can catch it exactly on that quarter inch seam, so I just make sure it's good enough, here we go , so now you can see here.
We've sewn it up and we can turn it over and they look great so let's go ahead and remove some of these and I'm going to go ahead and cut them out and I've got the other ones ready to go so let's cut out these snowballs. Oh, I lost my period. I have too many things on the table. Here we go. I found it fine, so I'm just going to leave a quarter inch seam allowance. I'll trim the volume and turn and do that on the other side, there we go and then I'll come back here and give it another good press just because I want them to be nice and flat and that one looks great. and we can see where it's going to fit and I have one more that I need to cut out so you can see again that we're cutting, I've sewn it from corner to corner, we're just leaving our seam allowance and Do we have any questions?
Liz, another comment. Three questions. Well, I want to say hello. Nancy Roegel says: How about we use that big floral print I have no idea with neutral tones for the fence? So I think that would be nice. that's a really good idea, a bright um instead of the white and then create a little front fence trellis, that's a great idea, cool, okay you have to show it to us with your hashtag msqc show and tell, I want to see howit looks. okay so this one goes here my brain is trying to play tricks on me that one goes back this goes this way and now you can see how this is actually coming together and that's it and now we're just going to sew our black together, so we're going to fold these right sides together, sew each side the same as our center and just put it together essentially like a nine patch which gives you this beautiful finished block, but I'm going to go ahead and sew this one for you so you can see how we set them up so let's go ahead and sew this and then if there are any questions I can answer while I work on it sure so Janine says making a snowball is a little scary okay I think it might be like that so I would recommend Janine just practice on some cut out fabric and cut out some two and a half inch squares or you already know the size you're working with and the pattern you're working with. you're doing and just practice it because it really is a

learn

ed skill.
I think diagonal seam tape on your machine can be a real lifesaver, especially if you have a larger area or if you're working with small corners because you really only need to go from corner to corner in a two and a half inch square, not It's very far away, so if you line up the first corner with your needle and the opposite corner with the red line of that diagonal sewing tape that when you put your machine is lined up with your needle. You know you're going to have a straight seam and you know it's going to work and as we showed you can always check it before trimming and if you're not happy with it. you can pick it out and sew it back on good advice yeah so I think it's definitely something that takes a little bit of practice but don't be afraid yeah you can do it right Helen and while you're at it. you're sewing, Helena says this could extend to a bed runner too absolutely, so you just make a few more blocks and yeah, because you're getting a good size block, it's a good size block, I don't remember the exact size, but I'll measure it when I'm done sewing this and tell you it would be perfect for a bed runner, okay that was my top row.
I'm going to go ahead and sew the middle together now and Sparkly says you could do this as a scrap. quilt by making each link in a different fabric, it would absolutely be great for that, you'll just want to be a little organized with how you place the links so they all line up for you, but that's really the trickiest part of this project. difficult, you know, the same straight seam that we're used to, you just have to be aware of the fabric you're putting, where Linda Kaufman says. Can you chain pieces together while sewing if you stay organized? can and I did it when I was doing steps and when I was doing this I just had a stack that said okay this is all my I think I liked abc like I did each segment and so I just stacked each segment and sewed them together and then I stacked them again and it worked great, but you have to stay organized, so linda, do it completely, yeah, there's no right or wrong way, you just want to make sure your pieces end up. in the right place, okay, I'm just taking my time to make sure everything is lined up right and this is great.
Mary says I just bought the digital pattern. The pattern says it measures 55 by 23. Yes, very perfect, thanks for checking. rosemary very good 53 by 21. our middle is sewn and let's go ahead and sew these two. I love being able to sit and sew and talk with you. It's like going out with my friends. It's the best I know. I love doing all this. There we go, so now we have our three rows together, everything is lined up, so I'm going to go ahead and nest this. If you wanted to push first, you could and I guess I should talk a little bit about that.
I would press. the middle section in as this is mostly dark and I would press this one out as since they are dark here, that's fine and that will just help them nest. I'm just going to make them go where I want them to go on the machine. So, but if you're worried, this is how I would do it and I love that you see your comments with all the color ideas. Brenda says greens, golds and purples for Mardi Gras. Yes, I love that We're talking about doing different color combinations for Easter. Terry says it would be great in silver and gold.
Wedding chains. Chains of love Table decorations. Great idea. I can't wait to see all the quilts. I was very excited. How did this come together? I knew I wanted to do some kind of binding, you know, like Celtic knots. I have a lot of Irish heritage in my family and I really love how they came together and I think it would look beautiful on any fabric. There we go, make sure I got this right, yeah, and then we can sew this one and our block will be complete and I'm really excited to see how you just twist it, so yeah, it's a Celtic twist in more ways than one, exactly, it's well, oh. that's another great idea leah mccartney says she would make a bold border around a panel oh that's a wonderful idea that would be very beautiful so let's press this it looks amazing move all my other pieces out of the way here there.
We looked beautiful, so now let's talk about how to put these blocks together. We can see here here is our first block and now you can see it's exactly the same and all we're going to do is rotate it 180 degrees. and our greens will match and this one goes on top and this one goes on the bottom and continue continue the pattern just the way you want it, so when you go back and add the third one it will be exactly the same, it will have the same orientation as this one and sit down and turn it over so that in actually you just turn it once yeah 180 degrees and then you put them next to each other and that's it so you can see I put three of them together oh I told you I would tell you how big the block is like that let's go ahead and make that so it's 16 and a half, okay, so it's a good size block and then I added a three inch outside border, okay, all around this and then we quilted it in this really nice spot.
On St. Patrick's Day I love the quilt. I love it a lot with the little hats and the shamrocks. It's very, very cute, so I hope you enjoyed it. Do you see any other questions that come up before we head out? Trixie says Trixie made erasers for a bed. long bed runner I would just add two more blocks maybe three yeah I think that's all you would need to do and they come together very quickly I hope you saw how they did it today it's very quick you know. Like I said, it's a great project for two and a half inch strips or fat quarters, this pattern is written to fit both so dig into your stash and I'd love to see what projects you make using this pattern and be sure to tag .
Enter with the hashtag msqc show and tell me tag me if you are on Instagram. I'm just into Misty Doan and would love to see them. I hope you have a fabulous week. See you next time. Thank you so much.
