RANGE ROVERS: ARE THEY RELIABLE? 2 Year Ownership Review

Apr 16, 2024
Alright guys, how's it going? Well, today I'm back in my Range Rover, which I've had for two full

year

s, so I thought I'd do a quick update video and tell you how it's been. It's been as un

reliable

as everyone says H so I'd say that's the most honest answer so I've also been thinking if I could go back in time would I buy it again? Well I hope by the end of this video you will have an answer I bought this 5L Autobiographical Range Rover as an approved used car from Land Rover of North West London in 2022, to be honest white wouldn't have been my first color choice.

I thought it was a bit Wags. car but it only made 14,000 thousand. I went to see a gray one, Carpathian gray I think it's called, it was in Stockport at the Mercedes dealership, it was exactly the same spec as this one, but I preferred that colour, but it had done 38,000 miles. So ultimately I thought I should go for a nice low mileage example, it just makes more sense, so I stuck with the white after saying I like it, it stands out and when clean it looks really cool. I like it. I just don't think I would have ordered it new from the factory in white, but anyway, when I bought it, I think it had just had its first engine or a couple of months before that, anyway, it had just had its first engine and I loved it.

More Interesting Facts About,

range rovers are they reliable 2 year ownership review...

I had never had a car this new until that moment. I had always had nine, eight, seventy old cars, never anything like this and although I immediately fell in love with it, yes in fact I think I mentioned it in a video in The Time I Thought I Was Suffering from Impostor Syndrome. I think that was it. I couldn't believe my luck, but after a few months I realized that I had actually worked for it and paid for it and everything. that kind of thing, so don't forget, I'll just do what I want and enjoy it and from that moment, since that little twist changed in my head, to this day I have 37.3 billion, so I've done a lot of miles on this car and as a result I know it very well and still love it.

There are days when I fight with him. I'll talk about that later, but for the most part I really like it, I guess. The first thing I should mention is reliability. Now Land Rovers have a terrible name among Rovers, particularly for being un

reliable

cars, but I can categorically say that this has never left me stranded, not even once, there has honestly never been a problem with the shape. It drives or runs, it has been spot on, however there have been quite a few issues, some annoying things that I openly admit are completely unacceptable in a car of this value.

I mean, when this car was new it cost over £100,000, everything should be perfect. Shouldn't it especially be one with this kind of history and this mileage and yet it hasn't been before telling you about all those drawbacks? And there are quite a few. I need to quickly thank the sponsor of today's video. let me go over this bule, here we go, today's video is sponsored by car vertical. Now it is very important that you do a used vehicle verification before handing over cash for a used car or motorcycle. I have heard so many horror stories. I've experienced a few myself over the

year

s, so it's definitely worth paying for one of these used vehicle checkups.
This will tell you if it was ever stolen, written off, had a mileage rollback, or has outstanding finances, on top of that it shows you everything. the mot history above shows you a bit more about the car, if it has ever been involved in an accident it sometimes shows you pictures of the damage, it's just a really thorough check and it's not something unique to the uk either as

they

are checked hundreds of millions of cars across dozens of country databases, if you want to run one of these checks yourself and I highly recommend it, you will save 20% off each and every check you run with my high peak promo code . would be easier, could it be high in one word and you will get a % discount on each and every check you do?
Thanks to Car Vertical for sponsoring today's video. Getting back to this long list of problems, the first two problems I had with this were after just a couple. After months of having it the check engine light came on, it wasn't malfunctioning or anything, no symptoms but the check engine light was on so luckily because I bought this approved used it came with a 12 month warranty which then You can extend it every year, which I have done and will do again. Both times the check engine light came on it was due to a faulty O2 sensor so

they

were replaced free of charge under warranty so it's a pretty simple job if I hadn't had it with the warranty in place it would have cost me about £250 every time I had a problem with the driver's soft close door it just wouldn't pull so I tried driving to work and it was fine it just wouldn't lock so I had the alarm going off every two seconds it was just annoying and of course couldn't lock the car so I called Land Rover they fixed it.
The smooth Clos motor had failed and was replaced under warranty. It just comes in here, so I probably wouldn't have done that really, this is a downside of this car, it's its size, it's very big and very wide and these little narrow country roads weren't built for it, just B, thanks, a few ago I used it for 9 or 10 months. for a service and I noticed it was starting to make a grinding noise and I thought it was normal, it's a supercharged engine and you always get a little wine from the supercharger and it has since day one so I didn't think it was anything who knew about Ward anyway, it was you guys who caught my attention because he was getting stronger and stronger, so when he ended up in Nutsford for a service I asked you to check him out, sure enough, some kind of The pulley had failed and the bearings were gone so it was squeaking excessively, but since I'm making this video, they replaced it anyway under warranty while it was in service and now it's as quiet as a mouse if I'd known that.
It wasn't normal. I would have done it much sooner, but it didn't leave me abandoned either, so it's not the end of the world. During the second year of

ownership

I paid £1,500 for the genuine Land Rover extended warranty and I don't know if it was good value for money or not, I basically did it for peace of mind and I'll do it again because you never know but I don't think this year or the second has had the only thing worth it. What has failed in this second year is the massage function of the driver's seat.
I realize this is going to sound very clever and very jokey, but this little button here gives you a nice back massage and I use it all the time, all the time. It's not a fad, I actually use it every time I'm in the car, it's nice and enjoyable anyway. One day I was in this car with a friend of mine and he was also enjoying a bit of the massage in the passenger seat. A lot if you ask me he was playing with all the settings like this because there are five different settings for the massage function so I was playing with that too and then it just stopped working but annoyingly it stopped working when The massage seat was in its extended position, so it looked like you were on an economy flight and there was a kid behind you, you know, digging his knees into the back of your seat.
I don't know if you can see this. but there you have it, it's basically an airbag system, so the airbag inflates and then deflates, giving you that nice massaging feeling anyway. It failed, but only on the driver's side, so I called Lander and Nutford again, who were very helpful, booked everything and yes. Apparently the massage package had failed so they removed the seat. They did it all under warranty and I have no idea how much it would have cost if I didn't have the extended warranty. They gave me a bill that's in the glove compartment. but of course it's for z0 p so I don't really know but I guess it would have cost me £500.
Most things at Land Rover are quite expensive, so I suppose it would have been a pretty expensive job. I'm pleased to report that it's now all fixed up and running which means I can drive to work with what I can only describe as the perfect human touch if you crave that sort of thing, so overall it's been reliable and safe for those little annoyances that yes they are. to ruin the whole experience, but the rest of the car has honestly been perfect, that's why they always come last in reliability surveys, it's things like this, oh actually, that's one more thing, one day I I got into this with my uh when my massage seat wasn't working, so it hurt a little bit anyway, like almost in Modo.
I drove to work and the sound system just wouldn't play any sound. The screen was still on, the lights were on but no one was home, so I spent 40 minutes with someone's foot on my back with no music at all and thought: you know what I'm going to get rid of in this car? I'm fed up, fed up, but while I was driving to work I was thinking what I'm going to replace it with. I don't want a GLE. I don't want an X5. I don't want a Q7 and I don't want a Porsche. Ken. Once you've had something like this, nothing more.
It seems like a degradation. I don't want a Land Cruiser because they're too rough and ready and too agricultural, so that wouldn't work. I don't want a Lexus RX because I'm not 75 years old. A Bentley Bender is too Flash and not really my style, to be honest a Mercedes G Wagon might be ok for hiyi in or Drina but again for me I feel a bit like a Jeb then you have a Lamborghini Urus or an Aon Martin dbx and they are just I drove too much until the other day and saw Ker Kona in a Urus, I don't really want one of those do I?
Also, they are ridiculously expensive, much more than this, so no, they are for footballers and other people like that, so not really. my style, so that's it, there's no real option, so I might as well stick with this one. You know, the only other car I was considering that is stupid. I didn't think about this at the time it was the new Land Rover Defender because every time I see one of those I think it's really cool but of course it's the same manufacturer you idiot Matt so you're going to have the same problems . I think the best thing I can do with this is stick with it, I'm grateful for that some days.
It will bother you and other days it won't, but I think it's just cars in general. I've had enough of them over the years, of different makes and models, to know that some days they work fine and other days they just bother you a little. What I would say though is that if you want a rain rig like this, make sure you have access to another car because then when it's in the garage for a couple of days it won't be any inconvenience to you, what else can I do? do? So well the performance is fast it's got 525 horsepower which means if you do this then do this okay yeah it's points I rarely drive like this to be honest but it's nice to know you can, what else can I mention?
So, oh, fuel. The economy now the fuel economy being a 5L V8 is not good. My lifetime average with this over the last 2 years is 21.6. It's not great. It's not bad for a car this size with a bulge like this, but it's not. enviable is that it costs 130 140 to fill it up and it lasts well I mean last week it lasted quite a while because I wasn't here but it usually lasts me 5 six days yes it's not great but I don't smoke I don't drink much if this is my pleasure in life so Something else to mention is the depreciation, because that hasn't been very good either now, when I bought this it was about 2 weeks away from the latest

range

being released so I knew I was suddenly going to take a hit if you buy the latest from the old and then the new comes out, it's not worth that much, it's common sense and I knew it and I still followed it and just as I predicted.
Al's prices for five have collapsed, of course, that hasn't been helped by the number of these that have been stolen. It was Rife a few months ago. I don't hear about it that often but yes a few months ago it was every day in fact I heard a room, now forgive me because this could just be pub chat but due to the embargoes with Russia I heard that they were being stolen and then exported or, you know, sent to Russia for parts because people in Russia with these cars can't get parts for them, I don't know how true that is, it's something I happily heard a few months ago.
Land Rover heard this and offered a free recall, some sort of theft recall, so I booked it. again at landro nutford i waited an hour had a nice cappuccino and it was all set and i think that just means it's less easy to steal, that's what i hope anyway of course the other thing to consider is the fact That these I've been Nick left, right and center, that means he's raised everyone's insurance premiums now. I don't know, it sounds presumptuous, but it hasn't affected mine at all. It's not even a penny more expensive than last year.
That's because I have a motor trade policy or I have a motor trade policy that coststhousands and thousands of pounds a year anyway and that covers me for test drives, all the stock I have at work, public liability camera equipment, everything is included so this is my own personal car listed on that policy when I renewed my policy a few months ago my agent came to see me and said the only thing that has changed with Range Rovers is if they are worth more than £70,000 which unfortunately is no longer the case. if it's worth more than £70,000 my excess will increase from £500 to £2,500 but of course it doesn't, it hasn't changed in terms of servicing costs and other consumables.
Tires, brakes and all that. types of things, it hasn't been bad at all, it is actually due to a service in another 2,000 million. I did it 8,000 miles ago so it will need to be done again in a couple of thousand miles and every time I do it it's £3 or £400 it doesn't really break the bank, it's not thousands and thousands like it would be with a Bentley. I put a set of tires on it during my

ownership

period and chose suitable tires and they were not too expensive. I think they were about 240 sideways, sorry not in a corner, both mots, this made it sail without a single warning element, so everything is pretty good apart from those few annoying issues, but I still can't Think of a single best car for this. a lot of money than this, it just does everything very well, so to answer my question I posed at the beginning, if I had to go back in time, would I buy it again?
Would I do it all over again? Well I think in life in general it's best not to dwell on the past if you made the decision that day live with it look to the future instead of the past so with that in mind yes I would do it all over again yes, It's big and thirsty and cumbersome and you have to reverse around pubs on country roads and all that sort of stuff when you have a car coming the other way, but it's a really nice car, it still makes me smile every time I get close to it. him and every time I come in, as long as my door closes properly, the engine light is not on and the radio works, we are all fine and you know what I believe, this is the last Range Rover that still has that Range Rover, the new one that I am.
I am still not convinced. The style just seems a little st

range

. It doesn't look like a Range Rover. I don't think it's too blurry and misshapen. Still, I am convinced that the L45 is one of the best Range Rovers ever made. It's more of a luxury car than a Range Rover, but that's what I like. Well, I think that's all. So guys, thanks once again for watching. Be sure to like the video if you enjoyed it.
