Jun 08, 2021
Oh, what's going on, everyone? We are wandering and it is a special day. I do a lot of things. Have you been waiting? I'm sorry and I've been bothering you. I'm sorry, but I wanted to make this video. You know, it's very complete. the best I could and I try to present it the best I could. I'm NOT a professional videographer, so let's see if we can get in here. Dogs are not allowed on the course. It doesn't say that electric bikes shouldn't be banned, but let's stop. Here and I'll talk about the result of all these Rat Rover

upgrade

s I'm doing.

I'm going to try to be, as you know, as quick as possible. However, I have a lot of information to give you, so let's park safely. to switch to our different camera view and I'll have to wear sunglasses. I can't, I can't sunbathe. I have blue eyes and they are extremely sensitive to the sun. I have to wear these, sorry you're not going to. See my eyes, promise I'm not lying now,

results

. I'm excited to show you all of this and tell you all of this, but there are a few things I need to tell you before we get into the

results

videos, so that's what we're going to be like.

By setting this up, I'll give you the information you need to know while you're watching all of this and then I'll show you all the results videos for everything I've done. I'll probably intersperse those points to tell you about the testing I'm doing and then at the end I'll give you conclusions and recommendations and all that kind of stuff, so here's the information you need to know up front: I'm NOT a professional at anything and In any sense of the word, I'm not a professional, so I'm not an e-bike technician. I don't know all the watts, voltage, amps, hours, all of that very well.

I have a general understanding that I am not a bicycle. technical I'm not an ebike reviewer I'm not sponsored by anyone I'm not affiliated with anyone I'm just a guy on YouTube so keep that in mind while you're watching all my videos what I'm doing next What I'm saying is that I'm not recommending that you go out and give it a try. Do this to your bike and turn it into a 30+ mile per hour bike that's going to tear up your local city sidewalks, cause chaos, and break a law. Okay, that's not the point of this, they don't encourage you to do that, so you should know that another thing to keep in mind when looking at these tests is that all the tests from zero to twenty hill climbs, everything is done.

Only bike

power

, just accelerate, no pedaling. There is no human involvement in any of these tests, this is just the performance of the bike, without pedaling, another thing I want to mention is the weight, okay, so by adding motors, batteries and such, they were heavier than the originals , this bike is now five pounds heavier, adding in all the new equipment and it sits as it is now this bike weighs eighty five and a half pounds so it's the beast Blake for sure and if you're curious about me, I'm six foot and one and I weigh one hundred and seventy pounds or seventy seven kilograms if you're not watching this in the United States, I want to mention that I had to go back to steel images from other videos to put them here, you know, showing all the stock tests, so my shape of taking tests and the way I like weather things. and that's a little bit different in some of the videos that you'll see, so I'm a guy.
I don't save my videos, I record videos, import them to my computer, edit them in an editing program and then delete it and save the YouTube video, so I don't even have all my old footage that I had to steal it from, like YouTube videos, so I guess I should start saving, I just don't have the space to save that stuff. However, and the last thing I will say is that I am doing this just to show you what is possible if you are like me, you bought a Red Rover electric bike or maybe any 750 watt electric bike and you have become kind.
You used to have an electric bike, now you're used to the

power

and want to get a little more out of it. I'm doing this to show you what's possible, how much it costs, and what you get from each component, so that's cool. Just to summarize, we started with an original Red Rover and at this point I changed the controller, battery, rear motor and display, so basically the entire drivetrain of the Red Rover has been replaced and see what you get. each thing and I'll give you the cost of everything at the end so you know, so let's do it, let's jump to the first one.
I'm going to do zero to 20, the first three, two, three, two, one, come on, okay, I had to get it. in the dugout because it's 90 degrees and muggy and sunny in North Carolina so we need some shade but anyway that was from 0 to 20 you see I had to change the way I do the timestamp there so I could get a better An accurate reading of the acceleration time, the way I did it, just so you know, I went into my editing program and started at the exact point where I saw the bike move and then at the exact point in which the speedometer hit the 20 mile per hour mark, so I don't know how it could be more accurate than that.
It should be a very accurate time reading that I posted there and this is how I did it for all the tests, just so you know. Okay, next step will be. be the hill climb video just so you know about the hill, it's not very steep at all. I don't like climbing very steep hills on engine power, I just figured it's probably a lot of stress on the engine that I don't want to do. I want it to last so this is just a nice steady incline that winds across the greenway, this is where I like to do this test and that's where I started doing them so I'm trying to be consistent and do it exactly where same area. so let's take a look at how I did it you three-two-one three two one let's go three two one let's go okay next is the top speed run as you can see in these videos.
I am overcoming these areas of testing and I will not. I'll use them again, these bikes are too powerful for that, but the top speed race is, it starts out level and then drops downhill and then flattens out at the end. You'll see on some of them where you know I hit max speed in the middle of the downhill and it just doesn't go any higher so it cuts right there and it doesn't cut off the industry because that's where I maxed out so let's take a look and see what It happened there, come on, we go back as far as we can go.
I don't have much space, you sent me to the street to do this, so I'll do it once I find a new top speed point, but there we only accelerate, we don't pedal, and the last one is one I added at the request of some of the viewers , I actually said I should do an eighth mile in a quarter mile, so I don't have any footage of that which I never did. that when the bike was totally original I'm not going to take all this off to do that, so if you want to know what an original

rover

does, you know it does eight quarter miles on your own bike, but I couldn't do that test, so just look three here, you know, the controller, the motor, a battery.
I went out and took a measuring wheel and mapped it out exactly an eighth of a mile to the foot and a quarter of a mile to the foot, so it should be very accurate and I just put, you know, chalk on the sidewalk. on the road in line so I could say it out loud when I pass this place where I do 8th and 4th it's very level a very long straight stretch so if you want to know what the max speed of the bike is on terrain leveled, these are They will be the tests to look at and this will give you an accurate picture of that.
Take a look three two one go three two one go three two one go well, there you have some significant performance improvements on this bike. I want to talk Now I'm asking you how much it cost, so let's go piece by piece real quick: The controller was two hundred and twenty dollars, that was for the controller and the new screen, the motor was two hundred and fifty dollars, and the battery was five hundred and twenty. I think I'll put all the prices on the screen just to make sure and if you want to know what the total cost was, including all the other extra things I have to buy, I'll put it on the screen now, okay?
So there you have it, you want to make your bike like mine, that's what it's going to cost you, so I know it's a lot of money, but if you compare it to going out and buying an electric bike, you know basically these same components. You're probably going to spend, you know, twenty-five thousand three thousand dollars to get a bike like that. I mean, like I said, I did this to show you that if you already have one of these bikes and you want to

upgrade

it, you can. that and this is what it's going to cost you, so one conclusion about performance is that I have outgrown my test areas.
I will not test there again. You can see the Hill Climb test where the Hill Climb ends up as a T-intersection, so that's how it was. It's hard to navigate, I don't need to go that fast uphill, so I ended up with the same thing with the downhill speed test. That's not the street to do that. I'm done with that area like I said. I wanted to stay consistent with the stock footage, so at this point the bike has exceeded my needs most of the time. I'm just doing this, I'm just circling it, so it's really beyond what I need, but I wasn't really worried about the top speed, it's nice to have it and keep up with traffic if I need to, but really I wanted to do this with acceleration and the acceleration on this bike is just fantastic, I love it now.
The main thing I want to get out of this and I got a lot more acceleration out of this baby. I love it, that's really a good thing to check out while we're here. I know many of you are asking me about that. Settings I'm going to show you my settings that I have on the controller right now. Here's a good look at my settings. If you want to copy them, I may need to adjust some of mine. You can see that I have c5 on 8, right? Now, that's the power settings. I don't even have maximum power.
I didn't want to do that right away with this motor and battery until I felt it, so maybe I should increase it and see if it makes any difference. I doubt it will do much good, but okay, let's keep reading because I want to tell you the recommendations on what to do next on this bike, after feeling the power and acceleration of this bike, you will probably want to upgrade it. brake next because you definitely need it when you're going you know 36 miles per hour so you'll probably upgrade the brakes in the future for this well we stopped just to give you some final recommendations after doing all this on my bike just in case that you do it.
I guess yours depends on what you need the bike for but this is what I'm going to say and it has a lot to do with cost, if you have money to spend and want a higher performance bike then go all out if money is tight. and you're on a budget, use the controller absolutely, that will totally change this bike gives you a lot more acceleration for 220 bucks and you also get the bigger screen or the one you know better, so the controller is absolutely worth it. you get a lot more performance for a small amount and it's very easy to fit, anyone can do it, it's plug-and-play, just unplug the plugs and plug it in, attach a new screen, the hardest part was putting it together, which you really can just have than doing it with flanges, so the controller is absolutely a

must

, that was a good buy for sure, next if you have the cash motor, the motor again was another drastic increase in performance for 250 dollars, now the problem is that you have to know, do it yourself, you have to be willing to destroy a bike and you know, start the engine, put the new engine in, it's not that bad, look at the video of the engine that I made, but that's another mega explosion for your money 250 dollars you can get much more top speed, much more acceleration power, that was also good, the last one, the battery for me is not even worth it.
I got out of the engine what I thought I was going to do. to get out of the battery, the battery gave me a couple more miles per hour, top speed, you know, it gives you more power, inhale, it goes up, it feels a little bit stronger, but I mean, it's not worth five hundred and twenty dollars, I mean, wow, the controller and! the motor were much better improvements and a much bigger performance increase than the battery so I definitely don't recommend the battery and like I said unless you have money to throw at it something that is a bad battery or didn't work just don't it worked.
Don't tell me it's not the best option for your money the other two give you the controller and the motor are definitely a good option for your money so it worked fine with the original 48 volt battery and it's fine and I left mine , mine was fully plugged in. and play you can see the video of my battery I made in an update of how I hooked everything up so I can go back to the 48 volt battery if I want if I want to mount it on the back shelf or something I can still do that so I saved all original plugs, so there you have it.
What else do I need to tell you? The last thing I want to mention is that you know when I was doing all these updatesperiodically that they asked me about. the motor gets hot when the motor gets hot the controller is hot so I actually kept an eye on that while doing these tests and the motor finally got a little warm which was after I did the final 52 upgrade test volts, you know I was outpacing this thing for thirty minutes running several quarter miles multiple hill climbs top speeds maxing this thing out for 30 minutes in the 96 degree heat in North Carolina and the sun and when I reached down and touched that engine it was so I would say there's very warm and hot heat I would say it was very warm, you know, it wasn't hot to the touch, it wasn't very hot, but it was like if you touch them, you're like, yeah, this engine is definitely very hot. , so driving normally every day, I haven't had it get hot like that at all, it was just when I was really hitting it that it got a little hot, it wasn't too hot, which I was worried about, but yeah, it finally got hot, so which is fine, there you have it.
I hope you got an idea from all this. If you have any questions, put them in the comments. I'll try to get to them and you know, if you want, of course I'll put links to all of this on my website, travel with Citizen Comm, so if you want to get any of the accessories or parts that I have, it's there. many of them are Amazon affiliate links because I am an Amazon Associate so know that the links can take you to Amazon if you like what you saw, consider subscribing and checking out some of my other videos.
I'm grateful for everyone who watches. I'm really grateful to be able to spread some of this information which, like I said, I really hope is helpful, just to show my perspective with the bike. I've had a great experience with the Red Rover so far for two years, though it's true. Now I'm not sure how many RAD Rovers are actually left on this bike. I pretty much changed the entire drivetrain, but anyway, like I said, share it with others if you know anyone considering a high-powered bike or considering upgrades. You'll probably want to see all of this, so send them the video so they can watch it and decide if it's right for them or not, but that's it and thanks again everyone for watching.
