Pulling Away from the Lexus NX? // 2024 Genesis GV70 3.5t Review

Apr 20, 2024
that's a very smooth starter here on the Genesis

gv70

this is a 3 1/2L twin turbo V6 that costs just under $70,000 69 350 today I'll tell you if it's worth that change, the beautiful Genesis logo as you lift the hood 3 1/2L twin-turbo V6 measuring 375 horsepower and a whopping 391 pounds of torque, made exclusively for an 8-speed automatic transmission that will see somewhere around 20 MP gallons, we'll talk more about fuel economy here on a little bit I love the V6 gcal there a small biturbo in the rear a very good presentation of the engine here the aluminum suspension reinforcement I liked it now we also have exclusive all-wheel drive here with this gb70 and check the front end It is absolutely beautiful, very Regal.

Some people will say this looks like a Bentley, we have those parallel daytime running lights here and this is a Prestige sport package that will give us some extra sportiness with a gloss black here at the bottom, parallel daytime running lights. with the quad beam night lights up and down we have the 21 inch wheels here that are optional. These are so unique because Genesis not only gives us huge brakes here, but look at this spider web or golf ball. I guess it's not a golf ball, it's more of a spider web-like pattern here, um, and it looks so unique when we get to the side, we have a little 360 degree camera there, blacked out roof rails here and also chrome dark around the edges of the windows, and it's just not a beautiful car, this is I think the color Capri Blue and this particular example is built in Alabama.

More Interesting Facts About,

pulling away from the lexus nx 2024 genesis gv70 3 5t review...

This is the first time I remember a gb70 being built there that is not completely El El

gv70

. I thought most of them came from Korea, but now they have production capacity here. North America too, which is potentially going to be good in the future for, maybe, electric vehicle tax credit, that kind of thing with huge, thick exhaust tips back here and this is all matte black, not the most premium, looking around the license plate. It doesn't look like 70k to me, but the exhaust tip looks very, very nice and flat. Genesis, uh, writing here and this will really lift the liftgate for you.

Sometimes it's underneath here, but we have a very large liftgate here and check out the amount of cargo space. very impressive here under the spare tire, how about we also have the beautiful documentation here for your vehicle warranty information manual. All that good stuff here in the charging tray, as well as a little net for storage. I don't know, a 12 volt melon just in case. you want to do some accessories and look at even the attention to detail on the accessory light, no, it has that crisscross pattern that we saw on the grill, pretty incredible, now we can fold the seats down here and we also have another light right there, hold down on the seat you have to hold down that lever hold down this lever a really nice weight to them you can see the speakers here this has a lexicon sound system which is absolutely amazing you can see how that really nice roof comes up here like Well, pretty much a flat floor and very very functional as most crossovers are correct so let's go ahead and get into the rear SE of the gv70 and talk about the feel of these doors because it's built in Alabama and not Korea. doesn't mean it's not extremely well built, the feel of this door is Elite luxury, the sound of it, yes it keeps beeping and we're hearing a lot of sirens right now, but you know the fit and finish here and the build quality.

It looks really impressive. I haven't noticed a drop in the Korean models. We have a parasol here. Beautiful stitching on the door, not just on the top, but also in this two-tone red and then you have this amazing carbon fiber trim inside the door. Lexus handles can take a page from the Genesis Playbook and put some carbon fiber on the sporty models. That Lexicon sound system doesn't look all that fancy. You know, that's perhaps one of the few areas where the car doesn't ooze luxury. This speaker grill is a bit disappointing. Genesis, uh, Dill here looks very, very nice and let's go ahead and fold these seats back and look at the padding on these red Napa leather seats, absolutely incredible.
I can also tilt them back and as a dad I like to have easy access here to the child seats so let's go back and remember this is always a problem with the Genesis uh gv70. I don't necessarily need much more headroom even though it is a bit tight. my legroom can sometimes be a little tight back here but to be honest this seat is comfortable enough that I could stay here for a while, huge panel sunroof, it's a very dark tent, which is great here in Florida to be honest, but if you're up north you might not want to have this dark tent you want more light in during the winter it's just not going to let in as much light can I adjust the VIP seat here uh so yeah I'm sitting here.
I can have more legroom and move that seat all the way forward if no one is sitting here. We tested the climate control, which is optional, so I can adjust the fan speed back here. I can just put it on automatic. I have heated outside seats, I don't have ventilated outside seats here in this particular model, but there are little vents here and that's all I have. I don't have any vents here, so this is mostly like a knee cooler, but this cabin is very small. and beautiful oh my gosh I could look at this all day but this cabin is so small that by having little vents in here you probably won't need any additional cooling because the vents above will do the job on this blocked one.
The place we're going, we had to reach over there a little bit and lift it up and man, these seats are so beautiful, tilt them back a little bit more to match this other seat here and it's just the feel of this leather is very firm. but comfortable at the same time lowering the armrest I thought it was a Genesis logo for a second but you know what it is, it's hard to the touch and it's a rubber stopper so if you lift it up it has a really satisfying and smooth closure . It's not loud, so I like that attention to detail, the cup holders here, of course, and let's go ahead and sit in that front seat.
Interesting, we actually have the unlock buttons because there is no physical unlock lever, so you have to unlock here. and here I missed the Lexicon speaker grill, it actually looks pretty good, it would have been nice if the bottom one had that kind of attention to detail and I'm locked back here, the child seat locks must have been enabled. I would, I didn't do it there. Come on, there's the lock on the child seat, and let's go ahead and open the door, oh, worst case scenario, I could have gotten in the front seat, which would have been entertaining for you, but just like the back door , this door feels so heavy and heavy.
Unfortunately, it's not soft clothing, that would be the next level and I'll point this out: we have smart access up here, we don't have smart access here, which I think is a big loss for 70k, so let's go ahead and get inside the front Exquisite details super high quality soft touch materials feel very firm at the same time memory seats here in the driver carbon fiber again and that lexicon speaker down there at the bottom we have massage seats with this lumbar control button uh, you I'm also going to have boost control with this sporty model, absolutely beautiful.
I love the thigh extension, the Genesis mat, you have fancy pedals with that specific material and pattern to match the grill and even the dead pedal gets a nice look. The red and black detail is the theme of this sporty model and it is a pretty incredible huge 14-inch screen. I love this wide screen here, all you have to do is look at this, this is as far as my arm goes and it's a touch screen so I have to lean over. forward, so it's not the most ergonomic in that sense, so maybe in a refresh or redesign of the gv70 we could get it a little bit closer to the controller here, but it looks good up there.
I will say that now I can manipulate the screen with this rotary dial and touchpad here and that's what I do most of the time. It's quite functional in that sense and you can adjust where these icons are. I put Android Auto all the way to the left talking about Android Auto phones right here. it has to be wired and plugged in via USB, not even us BC, so Genesis and its wireless charger are there too, but Genesis still doesn't stand up to modern times in Santa Fe I drove last week had Apple wireless. Carol Wireless Android auto and the gb70 still don't have that Elite connectivity here this is that 3D screen that I turn off because it makes me a little nauseous so I just turn it into a flat image and I like to see the tack that transforms um, when you change Sport Plus sport Eco Comfort mode, everything has its own individual screen, which is great.
I keep it in Comfort most of the time because it's so comfortable, soft and smooth, just like a luxury vehicle should be. but I'll play 0 to 60 for you here after I cover the inside okay so the steering wheel has some nice red stitching here on the bottom and what do I think about the quality of this stitching? Okay, I wouldn't do it. I even say it's luxury, but the quality of the material is quite impressive. My hands feel very good. You have the paddle shifters that are easy to reach and the feel of the turn indicators feels really nice and yes we do have that blind spot.
Spot view monitor here, to help you with your blind spot, you can see that Buick driving behind me, of course you have a blind spot monitor on the side of the mirrors, okay, you'll have a 360 camera here, Press this button immediately. it stops, there is no delay, that was really impressive. I want to show you how fast it was there, we're really impressive there with the 360 camera and if I go back to Android Auto, which is very easy to do at home, then I press down. In that, my radio stations for my Serius looks great. I don't have a digital rearview mirror like I had at Santa Fe Calligraphy last week and also like the one at Santa Fe Calligraphy last week.
Unfortunately, I have a nice front screen here, unlike the Santa Fe, my Android. Auto directions don't appear on my front screen, so we're dealing with a bit of an old front screen. Here's an outdated head-up display compared to Hyundai's newer technology. Okay, everything on the board here, soft touch, the stitching is amazing, this pattern all around. The climate control is quite easy on the eyes, with smooth, rounded ovals that match the door handle area. Everything seems very cohesive here and I love the large climate control knobs with the digital display inside. You have this extra touch screen here. to play with the climate control, heated and ventilated seats of course, and you have the auditory feedback that lets you know that you really hit it and there is also haptic feedback so that the screen rises a little to let you know that you really hit the screen. um, but it's pretty simple to use here you still have shortcut buttons and I've always felt like they feel a little cheap.
This type of piano keys. The silver piano keys feel a little cheap compared to the rest of the vehicle. other switches the scroll wheels for the volume the tomb the rotary dials here all feel really nice and premium these just feel a little out of place there um this might confuse some people I'm so used to on Genesis vehicles, but this rotary dial is very close to your unit selection, which is kind of like that old telephone, your rotary phone, you press it in a certain area and it goes back to Center, that's what's happening here, but I love them too the details within this. uh sync with the ambient lighting and let's move on to that carbon fiber that we said was on the doors, but it's here too.
I wouldn't say it's soft to the touch, but even this part of the dash here has a color that matches the dash. It's very difficult to match colors, uh, when you have different materials, so you have a hard touch here and a soft touch and they look identical to the eye, all right, moving to the armrest, we have a 12vt there, like we had in the area load. Everything is lined with felt, not only do you have this coin tray that is Lin felt or a gum tray and then you have additional felt here on the backbottom, um, I don't know if there's a light, it doesn't look like there's a light inside.
There, but I can't see at all, but I guess if there is no light there, which would have been nice at night, that being said, with this beautiful roof too, I think it's time to start driving the beautiful Genesis GB70. Braking torque at about 2200 RPM in 4 plus 0 to 60 and 5.19 and 0 to 100 kmph and 5.48 doesn't pull off particularly strong, but once that boost comes in you're off to the races and in the sport modes the The shifts are very, very strong, you feel the vehicle lean, pitch and lurch forward, compared to when you're just cruising around town, the shifts are nice and fluid, so I like how Hyundai has really brought a little more to the table. of sportiness and more feel to the car when you are in sport mode and in Sport Plus mode, there is so much torque and power that it sounds good, plus you make this twin-turbo V6 sound and it has a very satisfying and smooth engine note, it still seems super powerful, almost like a V8, but you get that torque punch that can only be felt with forced induction with the twin turbos here, but when you're cruising it's practically completely silent.
We have double pain windows here, at least in the front, and double pain. windshield hear a little the truck passing by it is not the quietest vehicle in the world and it is not the most incredible performing vehicle in the world where the gv70 shines here when you drive it and look at it it just does everything very well and in the past, I've knocked it for a few things. In the past, I've hit it because the engine start-stop technology is quite invasive and annoying. Now you'll still notice it here, but that engine turns off and on again.
It's not like shaking the whole car and taking you out of that luxurious experience. Yes, you can still beat him somewhere. I think there is a button. Yes, is here. It took me a little while to find it. It's up to here at the end. On the far left there is a button to remove the automatic engine start stop. I haven't actually used it once because they've refined it here and on this 24 model compared to previous years where it was too choppy and annoying, causing the engine to break down. Turn off I barely heard it Turn off without braking super smooth Another thing Genesis has done in the past with this 8 speed Auto is that when you hit the brakes and slow down in my testing on previous models you would still feel that The engine balances out In Comfort mode you would feel the engine braking, it would ruin the predictability of your braking at least again in my experience.
I don't have that anymore, so the two biggest things that kept me from feeling like a man in this car. It's so good that the start of the engine stop was too abrupt and the engine braking was too intrusive and ruined my braking predictability. It's all taken care of here, apparently I didn't have any of those issues here in the

2024

model, so Bravo Genesis, that's what you want in a luxury vehicle that you want refinement year after year, may not show up in a press release , it may not appear on, say, the skidpad or the track, but when you press the button, you get a plush seat like this.
I'm going to activate that massage seat function here. um you are very grateful for the small improvements, the endless pursuit of perfection is what Lexus used to call it and Genesis here is Lexing Lexus with the quality of materials focusing on a rear-wheel drive platform is still in the era of internal combustion where Genesis could improve here. I guess it would be moving the screen forward, like I said, updating, you know the software, so that you have wireless connectivity where you have your phones, uh, Android auto connecting to the head. show above um it's kind of like the really small technical things at this point which is surprising because when this gv70 came out that's where it did things really well it was the technical and well of course a lot of other things too but That wasn't one of the features it was missing, now those things stand out because everything else on the vehicle has been honed to perfection, there's a GV70 right there in silver.
That's a 2 and 1/2 L turbo, you can see from the the shape of the exhaust is more like a four or five sided exhaust on Ure, this is like the big circles you see, they both look really good , but the 2 1/2L when I put my foot down here even in Comfort It's not as fast as this twin-turbo V6, but it's a real gem of an entry-level powertrain in my opinion. It has 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. I drove in front wheel drive orientation last week with the S can't speak to the driving pressure. I'm still under embargo but I've driven the 2.5 turbo gb70 and I think that's all the engine I need and I think that's all the engine 99% of luxury buyers need.
Well, 300 horsepower for my measurements has always been the sweet spot for everyday performance and then you have 31 pound-feet of torque on top of that and then you can save a ton of money. Looks just as good, handles just as good in my opinion. Also, as much as this 3 and 1/2 L twin turbo is impressive, you don't need to spend an extra 10 grand or whatever to get it because that 2 and 2 L engine is very impressive and it also gets slightly better fuel economy. better. I'm getting about 20 m per gallon here and that's what's rated on the Monon label.
The air conditioning here has been really good. I'm going to tone it down as the sun starts to rise a little more. Here, but the air conditioning works fantastically on the ventilated seats and I have the opportunity to push the pedal all the way to the floor. It would never go into sport mode. I made the sport mode for my 0 to 60, as you saw. I don't like the extra harshness of shifting daily and this is still a rocket with its power and comfort mode. The steering is a little too light here in Comfort mode, in my opinion no, it's still very direct and just happy, I think this is a perfectly tuned luxury car here in Comfort mode smooth shifting smooth operation um light enough steering which still has enough feedback so yeah I think I've said enough about the gv70 at this point, you don't need the twin turbo V6 you don't need to spin almost 70k to get all the extra bits and Bobs because like I said the screen head H is not the latest cutting edge model, and this 14 inch screen comes standard if I remember correctly, so I will get the single turbo 4 cylinder and I think it is only a second slower from 0 to 60, maybe even less, it's so fast they're both so fast this one is just an extra sauce so if you're an extra sauce person then maybe this TN turbo V6 is for you and these seats you know yeah they're sportier they're definitely firm , but oh my god, I could sit in them all day, especially when they massage me.
It is ventilated. The seat I turned on is cutting through all my layers very well, to cool me down like fantastic, so I love the exterior design. I love the Genesis gb70 interior design. I actually loved the all-electric model or variant of it too. I just don't have enough good things to say, there's just a few things that hold it back, like maybe legroom in the rear, um, but now they've smoothed out all the weird transmission, uh, stepping in when you're braking, they smooth out the starting and stopping the engine. I am very happy here driving the Genesis gv70.
It is a fantastic luxury vehicle. It looks the way it feels and it does the job, and that's what you want, you want to hit all those bases as a luxury car, so I. I'll end there thanks Genesis for sending me the gv70. It's always hard to part with when I get a new press vehicle because it's so good, but I'll end it there, this vehicle is worth it. a single cent, even if you have to spend $7 to get the twin turbo V6, I still think it's worth it, but you could still get 99% of the same experience spending 10-15 grand less with the turbo 4 cylinders that have fantastic features. performance there is one of my favorite cards lc500 Genesis where is your luxury coupe?
Maybe it catches your attention because they don't need one when they have something this good. Okay, thanks everyone for watching, thanks Genesis once again. New York Police Department. vehicle here in Naples I think you already know why the St. Patrick's Day parade is here today, so anyway I'm going to close it out thanks everyone for watching. I'm glad they don't stop me for going too fast. That's always good too, thank you all again, lc500, geez, today we are pampered, surrounded by luxury here at the Genesis gb70, have a nice day and be at peace.
