Pro-Touring C3 Corvette Widebody LS6 "Rambo"

Jun 06, 2021
Hey guys, what's up? I'm Sean Autotopia. Today I'm here with Garrett, his C3 vet. We were dying to photograph this car because we have seen it at a couple of events. I've certainly seen videos of him and this one. It's one I want to delve into and I don't really know anything about this car other than it's radically widened, yeah it is, what's your 1970 c3 huh? and it's actually a real lt1. I have the numbers that match, actually yes, okay, relax, relax, breathe. Everybody, okay, you got it, it was cut in the '80s, you know, before you got it, before I got it, the second owners actually autocrossed it, flared it, so it got cut a lot before I got it, so it's still the flares. there are still the same flares no we cut them um actually the owner of the store uh chris gonzalez from jcg oh sure he owned this car and raced it with the old antique library decided to cut everything up and make his own What he actually designed the flares himself and I bought the car halfway through the project it was in the foreground the flares weren't even made he just made a fender and I bought it from him and did this too yeah okay let's open the hood and see what is. under there as of now okay what we have is a uh built by uh mullen x racing motors we ported the heads we put it together and it's not radical we put about 410 on the wheels so it's not a car with crazy horsepower but it's a light car so it's enough for fun, it weighs about 27 100 so a little over 400 on the tire, plus you didn't build this thing to do foot burns on the street you should cross, I should process Yeah I did it in autocross and raced it on the road a little bit and for road racing it's a little underpowered but for killer autocross yeah it's like first and second gear all the time Yes, what is the transmission you have with this?

It's a t-56. six speed trans built by rpm transmissions and they made their stage two, I think on that, which is strengthening it a little bit, I decided on the six speed, I wanted that double overdrive so I could cruise safely and drive it on the street. oh yeah, everywhere and you're running with Wilwood in every way, yeah, well, Woolwood, um, six piston, uh, four piston, they're super light and they work great and I chose to do it. I like manual brakes, I love them, so that's where I try to set my cars manually because I like that feeling.

More Interesting Facts About,

I noticed they are Forge Line wheels, which I love. Yes, yes, they have been good to me and they are good people. They are good wheels. Yeah. Good people and a good wheel, they're men, you can actually have a fancy looking wheel and you don't have to worry about it breaking under pressure you know, but you've got a huge front tire here, you're running a 315. In the front part, yes I can, 335 fits, but this is the scrub radius, the turning radius and everything else. I didn't find any benefit with the 335 in the front, so I prefer the 315.

Did you do it, so did you actually try it? with a 335 yeah cause that's what you're running here yeah oh my gosh dude you'd be square with a 335 holy yeah uh it's funny yeah it was already green or you picked the green I picked the green ,uh. It was originally red, white and blue, it was red and then a white and blue stripe down the center. Well, I almost went back to that just because I liked the classic look of an old race car, yes, but actually, surprisingly, I went to the auto. show, I go every year with my dad and I went to the Dodge booth and I saw a new F8 green painted challenger and I knew, I just saw it, so that's it, this is it, this is the new green F8.

Okay, and just green is my favorite color to begin with, but once I saw it I knew that you know, I'm one of those people where color matters to me and I'm sure I think about it constantly. You know, I have projects. happening at this moment where I wonder what the color will be oh yeah so I'm very particular and it took a while but I couldn't be happier with it I noticed his

rambo

's name uh you know it was actually I'm not going to say nothing, I've seen all the Rambos, no, no, no, um, you know, it's funny originally, I wasn't a name guy, you know, no, I wasn't one of those guys who names their cars, but.
He came out of the paint booth and we were thinking what's up with Rambo and I was like, I just liked it, you know, the flares reminded me of muscles, you know, right? The green reminded me of a kind of military green, it's American, um. and dude who doesn't love first blood, you know, oh, come on, man, it's funny, you know, Stallone, it's just that I'm more uh, I wanted it to be funny, you know, and for me, that put a smile on my face and It was like Yeah, that's cool and what's funnier than a guy saving an entire planet, you know, with a fucking knife. why not, I think it's great, yeah, I want to see you back here in this huge wing, you have this thing that's crazy, uh, it's probably the one I hate the most, to be honest, I can imagine, but it's about the right function, 100 functions, the car you should remember.
The fuel tank is in the back but it also used to have a spare tire in the back and we took it all off and put a smaller tank on it and it was very light in the back it was getting too happy in the back rear. we designed the spoiler for it and it works, I mean a lot of people say it doesn't do anything, it works, yeah, just because, because that was going to be my other question: have you driven it both ways? Yes, it shows. Yeah, you apply some downforce to it, now a guy on the Internet, well, it's going to create drag.
Yes, it creates a little drag, but I get the benefits of downforce. I would never stop using it now in this car. just cool okay let's look at your insides man it's cool though how crude it is here now you still have a radio that works yeah I put in one of the new ones that they have like bluetooth and that all looks like the old one. Yes, part of the rules for the Optima events that I do is that you have to have working horn lights, radio, air conditioning or air vents or you know they want your car to be straight up a tram, so they make you meet those requirements , so I put some of those things in here to approve those rules, launch, that's really cool and then you went to the auto meter everywhere for your meters, it seems like yeah, you know they work well, they looked good and they fit.
I didn't have to cut anything. Because most of the interiors are pretty original, sure, we cut the tunnel to fit the six speed, built these seats from scratch and that's it, like you start with nothing, nothing, aluminum sheets, no, It's renobin, that's it. your father's company, yeah, yeah, that's our company and it gives me the ability to do this, so you know I'm proud of it, so I put it in the car with all the other companies that have been nice enough to help. in construction, yeah, yeah, hey man, being a garbage man obviously works out well for you guys, hey, you know what someone has to do right, I'm just a recycler guy, that's true, sorry, sorry, no you're a cheat, we're in california, we recycle here, sure, sure, dude, let's close the hood, let's jump in, let's go for a ride, I want to see what

rambo

is all about, absolutely, let's do it right guys, before we go out for a ride lap. we have merch, we have some cool black shirts with the orange logo, we have the gray shirts with the black logo, finally we have women's tank tops, we have trucker caps, flex caps, we have a whole sticker pack, personally my favorite item we have a keychain now let's go for a drive I guess it was your dad who got you interested in cars originally yes he had a 72 pantera that he bought in the 70's like 78 70 79 and he still has it to this day and it's in the garage and that's what got me into cars, it's still my favorite car man, I love you, my brother was into sports, I was into cars and we bought a '67 camaro and that's what started it all, From then on it was just cars.
Awesome, yeah you can tell this car really digs, oh it does, it's got a lot of rear bike, the car goes down, man, it's a lot of fun for me because this has been a big thing lately, it's power to weight, power by weight, enormous power by weight. and you say, would you say this car has the 400 tire like 410, yeah, 415, something like that? It's not crazy you know, but it digs and goes instead of just spinning the tires and it's controllable, yeah, fun, you can do this all day. yeah, I love the feel of the second gear shift, you feel it slide a little bit, but then it just digs in, yeah, okay guys, that's it for our session of Garrett's completely badass c3

corvette

.
I mean, how radical is this thing, right? I love it all too. His choices on this would have been so easy to turn this into an ugly duckling with these wild flares and with the huge spoiler on the back, but I love the execution, I love the look and, uh, I love the fact. who goes out and drives at full speed, he doesn't just drive it down the street, he takes it out, the car crosses the circuits, I don't know what else to say except a completely badass ride and a really cool guy, so as always, A big thank you for posting, watching and supporting what we do.
I really appreciate it guys and I'll see you in the next episode, okay, later.
