s for

, especially

, tend to stick to rice

paper

s or napkins that they buy . various places online or find them in stores, etc. However, of course, that makes your options very limited, only allowing you to use what you can find in stores or whatever someone else is already selling for your project, so today I wanted to show you. how to make

thick

er papers work for decoupage so what I have here is an image that I printed on my normal inkjet printer so I just have a normal standard Canon printer that you can buy at most stores and this It is the cheapest photo paper I found.

I can find when you are

printing

your own photographs, the thinner the paper the better, which for us of course is very useful because they get thinner and the photo paper will be cheaper when I print photographs on my printer, the only things that I What I do is I resize them to fit whatever I'm going to apply them to, so in this case we're going to apply this image over the top of this jewelry box and then I resize there originally, it was much larger and when i sent it to print i set my printer to print photos on photo paper so before you start

printing

your own images on your printer make sure you have the print quality set to the highest you can get so i have all the supplies here that I'm going to need or think I need them and I always do this before I start filming a video.

I think I have all my stuff, all the supplies ready, but then I tend to forget something, but then If you have my photo, you will need your decoupage glue and my brush to apply it, you will need a little sheet of plastic like this, so this it's just a small file folder of course you're going to need what you're going to apply the paper to, you're going to need a small squeegee or even an old credit card or something like that you're going to need some glia tape if you have one of these rollers, that can also be very useful, but if you don't, then you will have to settle for one of these squeegees.

I used them before and they worked absolutely fine until I bought one of these and you will need a spray bottle or a container of water if I don't have a spray bottle a container of water will work fine so the first thing I'm going to do is cut the paper because I don't I'm going to need it when I resize the image I made. I'm sure it's a little bigger than I need and that will allow for some room for error and also makes application much easier. Ah, there you have it. I already remembered one thing that I completely forgot and that is a small cloth or towel, something that you can use to remove excess water, so I cut out my photo and what we are going to do now is thin out the paper so that when print on photo paper We'll notice that of course this is the shiny side and the back is pretty smooth as well, so what we want to do is thin out this back side so that when we go to apply the image on top, the glue can leak out.

It's much better, you can just paste it on without doing that, but I prefer to thin it out if I'm working with photo paper, of course, also if you have access to a laser printer, you can usually find them in libraries or photocopy centers. If you have one nearby, then you can go there and print your photo on regular office paper and in that case, you won't have to thin it. You can just skip this first step entirely, but I know that many people, especially those of us who maybe have trouble getting places or live in the middle of nowhere or just don't have access to a laser printer, sometimes I find that I want to start a project in the middle of the night and I can't." I'm not going to go looking for a laser printer, so it's also helpful to know that this method will also work with cardstock or scrapbooking paper, anything that's thicker than napkins or rice paper you've worked with before, so by all means. anyway to thin the paper, what I'm doing.
What I'm going to do is turn it around. It is important that the surface you are putting your photo on is nice and smooth. I'm going to grab my duct tape. I'm going to stick my masking tape over the entire image overlapping it. so it covers everything so I've covered everything so I had to apply three strips of masking tape over my photo and I'm going to take my little squeegee and I'm going to go over everything. to polish it, just put the masking tape down to the paper very, very well, so that when we remove it, that backing layer will come off along with the masking tape, so now I'm going to take one of these corners and again if you start to do this from one of the corners and you notice that it doesn't come out right or something, you have three more corners just to try it, so sometimes it can happen that you know that one corner doesn't want to come.
Take it off or something, so go ahead and try the other one and I'm going to start gently peeling it off, there you go, and this is what we took off the back and if you actually have paper, you can keep doing that. this until you're happy with how thin your paper is until you're comfortable with I'm comfortable with this, just one layer is enough because when we move on to what we're going to do now, we're going to soak it and that's going to let the glue set. seep properly into the fibers of the paper so that when you apply it it adheres really well, so I'm going to do this right here on my little mat, you could use another one. of them plastic folders, if you don't have a mat like this or something, this is just a placemat, so I'm going to gently spray it so it's all covered in water now and like I said, instead of using a spray bottle, you can do it.
You could just take a bowl of water to float it and leave it for a couple of minutes and it will do the exact same thing so it's ready for you to apply. I think so. I'm going to try pouring the excess into a cup, wipe off the water and then I'm going to move this and put my photo in the plastic folder until I'm ready to transfer it to my jewelry box. I'm just going to gently remove the excess water and set it aside, so now I'm going to take my jewelry box and apply a coat of Mod Podge.
You can use any glue for decoupage, so if you use PVA glue. you can use that, you can use more projects and use special decoupage glue, whatever you want to use for your decoupage. All I did to this jewelry box was apply a coat of white chalk paint to prepare it and then sanded it. so it's nice and smooth, so I'm going to take my brush and apply a nice layer of glue so it's not too thick but not too thin as far as where it's going to dry before um. before I apply anything to it, the reason it needs to be pretty thick is so it doesn't dry out because Mod Podge tends to dry very quickly when I apply it directly to the wood, so now I'm going to take my photo and stick it on top.
I'll put it on top now. I'm going to use my plastic folder again. I'm going to take my squeegee again and I'm going to go over everything and remove any excess glue. as well as any bubbles and just make sure everything is stuck together very very well so again this may take a while to get used to just give it time. I'm sure you will get there and when you do you will be very happy because this is a very good way to be able to broaden your horizons and be able to do a lot more with your decoupage.
This is an image I downloaded from Adobe Stock Photos and that's what I usually get most of my photos from. Decoupage images, so I have a membership with them, you just couldn't take it away. Check out. I'm going to wipe off the excess glue, put my file back in, and use my roll in there. just to go over it one more time to make sure everything is glued correctly, you want to pay special attention to the edges, make sure they are glued correctly and I'm just using my cloth to wipe off any excess glue that came out. from the bottom, so what I'm going to do now is apply another layer of glue on top and since our paper is wet, that's also going to help the glue seep in and so my friends, that's how you can.
I work with the thickest papers in decoupage. I've used thicker papers in a lot of my projects so I do this all the time so believe me when I say this is a game changer so I'm leaving it out completely. dry now, so it's two o'clock. I'll probably leave it until 8:00 or 9:00 until I have time to work on it again. A few hours and once it's completely dry, I'll take it. some sandpaper and I'll sand the edges. I'm going to decorate the rest of the box as I normally want to decorate the edges. I'm going to use a little sponge like this and a little bit of acrylic paint and just to show you what I just did.
To show you what I do is I pick up my acrylic paints with a sponge and I just go over the edges like this and that creates a nice faded effect, but I'll also film how I decorate all of this, including the application. Of this, you'll see a video of the full project soon if you're interested in seeing how I do it, but yeah, let me know if you have any questions about this or anything else you've seen on my channel.
