Now, today this is one of my most requested articles in recent months. This is the smokeless electric grill I'm hoping to get to right now. And, if you remember, back in late 2017, I reviewed the Gotham Steel Smokeless Grill, which as far as I'm concerned, was a bit hit and miss.

This one seems to have the same kind of idea, but with a little different technology. So it will be good to see how it performs and compare it to Gotham's original offering. So, without further delay, let's unpack it and get started. It's time to open this guy up while Bailey watches. Oh, it's something big. Nice presentation. That's something Gotham Steel really missed. So, it's a nice sight. So, we have two recipes. Who needs a recipe guide when these two are enough for everyone, right? The owner's manual. Quick Start Guide. The dreaded arbitration agreement. Oh, we still have a long way to go.

Oh, there's a lot going on here, so I need to familiarize myself with these instructions before trying to get started to do it correctly. So, I'm going to turn this camera off. Read them a couple of times. Welcome to the wonderful world of smokeless grilling. And I'll come back and cook a little. Alright. All the components are displayed here. So the first thing you should do is wash everything and then fill it with two cups of water. Bailey can't wait to eat some barbecue. (water running) Do you really need to wash the drip tray? I guess I will. (water running) Two cups.

First, a drip tray and the drip tray. The heating element. We already have the grill there. I'm going to use the iron later or tomorrow when I make some pancakes. And the cover will be our icing on the cake. Now, let me take the Gotham Steel Smokeless Grill and compare just the initial observations of these two. The Gotham Steel is more square, this one is more rectangular. This one has a lid, this one doesn't. The heating element is right against the surface of the grill on Gotham Steel. Here the heating element is separate. This is a little annoying because you can't really submerge the grill.

You can't put the dishwasher in because it is attached to the heating element. I thought it went well the first few times I used it, but once I did, I think it was a steak. This non-stick surface was destroyed. The nonstick surface never worked the same after that. In the smokeless electric grill, the grill and griddle can be washed in the dishwasher. This has to be hand washed and as you can see, I never got some things out of there. I rubbed it, I thought it was a defect of the Gotham Steel. Oh, this one also includes a fan to suck in the smoke.
This one only has a drip tray. It has a drip tray and a fan. This one looks like it could have some better design features. That doesn't mean it will work better, so the proof will be in the cooking, which is next. Alright. I just turned it on here and set it up, and I see some smoke coming up. Let's say the temperature doesn't think you've set a specific temperature. (beeping sound) Unless you're not doing it right. (beeping sound) You hit it once and it goes up. (beeping sound) Then I'll let whatever's in there burn. I washed it.
But I'll let everything in there burn and then I'll get started. Gotham Steel is already preheated, so it will be ready to go when the smokeless electric grill is ready to go. They're done preheating. There is some smelly plastic coming out of the smokeless electric grill. I don't think it's the grill itself, because I already washed it. So maybe it's one of the other pieces that are just warming up down there. I'm not too worried about that. But it seems to be preheated, just like this one. So let's put some burgers in here and see how they go.
Yes. I'm using pre-made burgers. I know it is a mortal sin for some people. I don't have time to prepare them myself, so I just bought this. However, I think it will adequately demonstrate how well a grill works. (grill sound) With this size, I'm not sure I'll get six. I could get five. I'm going to do four in each. (grill sound) We have sizzling burger. (grill sound) I could have put a fifth in there. (grill sound) I only had an eight pack. (grill sound) So, it looks like this could fit about five of these wider burgers. (grill sound) This one holds up.
I don't know if I could fit a fifth in there or not. I don't think there is much difference in size. This one only has the drip tray. (grill sound) This one has the secret weapon. Boom! (grill sound) I have the fan. (grill sound) You know what? I'm going to wait (grill sound) until it starts smoking and see what difference the pan makes. Do you smell that? (grill sound) Oh, you smell it, right? (grill sound) She smells it. (grill sound) The instructions recommend cooking with the lid on. (grill sound) So, this one doesn't have a lid. (grill sound) Well, here we go.
The lid is on. (grill sound) In fact, I'm going to turn on the fan and see what difference it makes. (grill sound) I'll come back and check them in a few minutes (grill sound) when they're ready to flip (grill sound) or if they start to smoke. One of the two. Alright. As it continues to cook, you will notice a little smoke coming from the smokeless grill as the ham heats up. This one with the lid on, you don't really notice it. Let's pick it up and see what we have. (grill sound) It seems like the fan is sucking in most of the smoke. (grill sound) I would say that in the early stages, this smokeless electric grill is ahead.
Although there is a long way to go. (grill sound) Oh, we have grill marks. (grill sound) (cough) Smokeless grill. (grill sound) Let's see if the fan without the cover is on and see what happens. (grill sound) Oh, yeah. The smoke disappeared. (grill sound) Look. (grill sound) Fan off. (grill sound) Smoking again. (grill sound) Fan on. (grill sound) No. This one has calmed down a bit, but there's still smoke coming out of here. (grill sound) While no smoke comes out of that one, because it has a lid and a fan. (grill sound) As far as smoke goes, I already call this Power Smokeless Grill, in the smoke category, (grill sound) the superior product. (grill sound) That won't be fun. (engine sound) I'm already afraid of this one. (engine sound) Now the part I don't like about these reviews is that I'm going to clean this up.
Here is the final product. Do any of these seem better to you? Which one do you think looks better? I can tell you these are Gotham Steel and this is Power Smokeless Grill. The grill marks are a little more pronounced on Gotham Steel. As far as grilling goes, both are cooked to the proper temperature, but this one has nice grill marks. Then, Gotham Steel comes behind, although this one smokes less. First, I'll try the Power Smokeless Grill, one of these burgers. It is cooked inside. You can see it well. That one tasted good. More or less what I expected.
Now, let's try Gotham Steel. Also very well cooked. Gotham also turned out pretty well. Alright. So in the first round, I think Gotham Steel did better on the grid marks. The Power Smokeless Grill had better results with smoke. Both are the same in flavor. Let's see if from the second round we get a clear winner. Let's see what's underneath here. Yeah. That's not fun. The drip trays, I don't worry too much. Those are simply deleted. But what worries me the most are the grills. I have my stopwatch here. I'm going to take the time to clean them both. (scrub noise) Remember this is advertised for its non-stick surface (scrub noise), but what I found is that after the first couple of uses (scrub noise) the non-stick surface is practically gone. (scrubbing noise) So now it just takes a lot of effort to clean these things.
I remember why I don't like this so much. It's not even a perfect job. But I just cleaned the top of the grill. There's still oil, a lot of cracks there. There are still some things in there, but I hope they burn in my next round. But more than four minutes and a real pain. Alright. Let's lift this up and see what's underneath. It doesn't look too nice either, but at least this part comes out well. You can submerge this in water. (water running) Although there are a lot of cracks here, nothing seemed to stick together that much.
I know, I know that's new. So the first time I'm not going to be that impressed, because let's see how it works after a couple of things. But, from the first use, it cleaned up pretty well. I have some steaks ready to go here. One on each grill. (grill noise) Oh, that sounds good. (grill noise) That sounds good too. When I put it there, I could feel it gripping the surface. (grill noise) It didn't slide at all. This one, (grill noise) sliding. I understand this is a newer non-stick surface. (grill noise) But I don't know if this one ever did that. (grill noise) And now we wait. (grill noise) Now, it's just a matter of sitting here, looking at these steaks. (grill noise) I'm sure I'll be tired if I put my head down to take a nap. (grill noise) I'm just kidding.
I have my Clever tweezers. I'm going to turn them around. (grill noise) We definitely have more smoke now. (grill noise) Let's see if I put this fan on. (grill noise) He left. (grill noise) Put the lid on, even more gone. So there is no smoke. (grill noise) This one has some smoke. The grill marks are nice on Gotham Steel. I will say that. (grill noise) They're not that impressive. You can see those thin grill marks here. I would say we now have less smoke, better grill marks and better cleaning. The advantage goes to Power Smokeless Grill at this point.
Alright. I just checked in with my digital thermometer. They are ready to go. (grill noise) A lot of smoke. (grill noise) (cough) No smoke. (engine noise) Very good. That's what we have guys. Gotham Steel is best with grill marks. Less smoke. They both have, they are cooked quite well. Now I have to deal with it again. As for cleaning, it doesn't look too bad and is dishwasher safe, which I will do after my next test. This, I already fear. Cut them out and see how they looked. I cut a small wedge from here. Trying to get to the central area here to see what it looks like.
Which is better? Power Smokeless Grill, Gotham Steel or are they the same? The first test is the Power Smokeless Grill. Next up is Gotham Steel. If I'm picky about taste, I want to say that Gotham Steel could have tasted a little better. But it's very difficult to know because they are so close. I'll have to do more testing, but unfortunately I have to clean them next, which is my least favorite thing about any of these grills. (water running) Okay. They've been cleaned up and it's time for round three. Some chicken breast. Let's try that. (grill noise) We have sizzling. (grill noise) Both grills are on.
Let's see how they compare. So far, everything has been pretty even in the kitchen, but the cleaning there is very tough. (grill noise) And the smoke is really good there and look how they look. First, Gotham Steel. (grill noise) Nice grill marks. I like them. (grill noise) Not bad. (grill noise) Now, the smokeless electric grill, (grill noise) once again leaves less impressive grill marks. (grill noise) The chicken is ready. This is the Gotham Steel Smokeless Electric Grill. Although I like many of the features of the Power Smokeless Grill, Gotham Steel has better grill brands. I still like those better.
What do you think? (water running) I'll be curious to see how it goes, because it's got some kind of cake batter in there. It doesn't really turn out well. Let's see if the dishwasher can do this. Goodbye, smokeless grills, smokeless! Alright. Let's see how these items fared in the dishwasher. Not bad. I mean, it's obviously not perfect, but it all worked out. That looks good. This is the Gotham Steel tray. It turned out pretty well too. And perhaps most importantly, the Power Smokeless Grill looks perfect. Now I have one more test to do and it is on the iron side.
So let's try some pancakes with both of them and then we'll be done with this. With griddle for Gotham Steel, griddle for Power Smokeless Grill. I'm going to make some pancake mix. Let's see how they work. Both have been preheated over medium heat. I have my pancake mix. Now, part of this test is to see how well this non-stick surface works. This one, I don't think it degraded like the grill did, because I didn't cook anything on very high heat. So without any spray oil, I'll be curious to see how well they work on non-stick surfaces.
Make a large pancake. I'm going to start with this and see how it works, then I'll do therest. I think this is ready to change. She didn't stay. Oh, that looks good. Not bad, James. This one needs a little more, I think. I think underneath this one, it's not actually turning brown on the bottom. I raise the heat a little. It looks ready to flip, but it's not brown. This one is already done. Gotham Steel appears on the plate. This one just isn't turning brown. maybe the heat is not high. I'll try another one with higher heat and see how it goes.
A couple of small ones in this one. Well, this is going to be a trial and error, because I wasn't sure how much heat to put into this. I chose this temperature which I don't think was right so I'll go a little higher on the next one to see if I can get better results. Because, this is, no... I'm sure it tastes good, but that's not really... That's, I mean... Gotham Steel looks better, right? Not bad. Boom! I'm going to give this up and start over. I have more confidence. This time I have faith. The smokeless electric grill.
And this time the smokeless electric iron! Alright. Looks like they're ready to flip. Hey. Not very brown. I have the heat on high and I got a little brown in this batch. Slightly brown. I'm a little lost here. These things should be browner than that. I'm going to try my last piece of dough and see if I can get one of these brown ones. I'll leave it on even longer and see what happens. I left it on a little longer. Let's see how it looks. Hey, it turned out a little brown! It's still not as golden brown as Gotham Steel and I let it sit for several minutes.
Alright. This is what we have. Gotham Steel on the right. Smokeless electric grill on the left. Now this is the one I left up for as long as possible. The others certainly seem ready, but they didn't turn out as well. I'm going to have to play with this grill with the temperature or times, because it didn't seem as natural to me as the Gotham Steel, which I turned when it felt right and they turned out well. I flipped this one when they looked right and they didn't turn out right. But I'm getting closer. So I think the grill is feasible.
You just have to play with the times a little. Alright, guys. That is all that I have. Let's take a look at some of the features and how they compare. As far as smokelessness goes, I definitely think the advantage goes to the Power Smokeless Grill. Not only does it have a fan and a lid, but for me the comparison wasn't even close. Gotham Steel only has a drip tray, but smoke comes out of the food anyway. So smokeless, Power Smokeless Grill definitely takes the cake. As far as cleanliness goes, I think that's also another one that applies to the Power Smokeless Grill.
Gotham Steel is very tough. To me, that's the reason for the deal. That's why I wouldn't buy that product again, because cleaning is too time-consuming, too difficult, and it's not even easy to get it all off! This is the best I can do. Is not perfect? As far as grill brands go, that one definitely goes to Gotham Steel. The grill marks were clearly better. The Power Smokeless grill has these types of fine grill marks. That could just be the design difference, due to the size of the grill itself, Gotham Steel. The Gotham Steel grill marks were clearly better than the Power Smokeless Grill.
Now, the iron. I'm not very sure about that. Gotham Steel performed better than the Power Smokeless Grill, but I think that on the Power Smokeless Grill, the griddle itself may not get as hot. So, I have to play with that. On my last attempt, I got some brown pancakes. So I think the grill for the Power Smokeless Grill will take a little trial and error before you get it right. But for me, right now, my initial test, the iron goes to Gotham Steel. Now, as far as the non-stick surface goes, for me Gotham Steel, its non-stick surface degraded quite a bit after the second use.
And since then it has never been the same. So, I've washed the Power Smokeless Grill a few times, put it in the dishwasher and it's still holding up, so for me the non-stick surface clearly goes towards the Power Smokeless Grill. And finally the cost. Gotham Steel usually costs around $80. The smokeless electric grill, between $100 and $120. So Gotham Steel is cheaper. But in my case I would not buy it again, because the non-stick surface has disappeared and cleaning is impossible. None of these are perfect, but if I had to choose one of these, I would definitely choose the Power Smokeless Grill, because when grilling inside, the smoke is significantly less.
And to me, that's why people buy this. Have you used any of these products? Say what you think in the comments below.
