Jun 02, 2021
What's going on guys welcome back to the channel for the 2006

yz250

build

I'm doing right now so today I'm really excited because I'm going to start

powder

coating

some of these

part

s here hopefully I'll get some transformations amazing on these

part

s and get them looking amazing, so obviously I'm going to do wheel hubs here. I'm not going to do the wheels, but I'll have to tear everything down to get to these aftermarket hubs and coat them. I'm going to do the Shock Spring here, I'm going to remove it from the shock body, but it's pretty easy to do and then there was a debate about whether I should do the frame.

Many of you said yes. Many of you said no. I finished. I decided to apply a coat of

powder

paint. I'll share with you why later, but if you left a comment on YouTube or texted me on Instagram, I really appreciate a lot of you chipping in and I really appreciate all your tips, but I decided to powder coat it, like this which I'll talk about that later in the video, but anyway guys, we've got some amazing colors that I'm really excited to share with you today and there's a ton of stuff to do, so I'm going to go ahead and get to work, guys, let's go ahead and start here by taking down the front wheel, okay guys, and now that I'm done taking down the wheel hubs completely, I can remove the spring from the shock body here and then.

I'll put these parts in the parts washer and clean them all before I fly, and since the frame has a lot of important threads, I want to go ahead and mask and cover them before I fly just to make my life easier. and not get a lot of sand in the threads, okay guys? Why did I just finish blowing up the front wheel hub here while waiting to finish blowing up the other parts? I'm going to go ahead and start this with the throttle off, keep things moving. So I'm going to put it here at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.

Okay guys, now that all the pieces have been destroyed and all but the frame have been degassed, I'm going to go ahead and scrub all the pieces. with a little bit of Eastwood pre-paint prep to remove any final grime, alright guys we've got the frame ready and primed for a powder coat, but obviously it's not going to fit in this oven to cure it so I'll have to execute it. to a local powder

coating

shop guys, and the powder coating company I decided to work with on this frame was Powder Vision Inc out of Washington state, they had made motorcycle parts before and were really prepared to make this one painting, but I haven't done it.

I worked with them so I want to get the frame back before I recommend them but they were nice enough to show me the shop and they have a super nice degreaser tank here for the parts and then they will come and tell me "Actually we are using a shipping container for sandblasting, you know, bigger x' chassis and stuff and some bigger parts and then here you have a super big oven and then a really big powder coating booth Well guys, I just got back from Powder Vision. Inc and On the way back I stopped by the store to buy a second oven.
This will make things a lot easier when powder coating because instead of only being able to do one or two parts at a time, now I can do three or four, so Hopefully, I'll be able to make all of these parts in one batch, but anyway, guys, I don't have time to powder coat them today, but all of these parts are ready to go, so we'll powder coat them all in the morning. Guys what's happening is the next day so we're ready to start powder coating and if you look here I'll show you the colors that I went ahead and chose so here I have a super chrome base coat and that's really similar to what i did on the cr125 which is just a shiny chrome that will go under another top coat here on the top coat i went ahead and chose is an anodized blue that looks almost matte in powder form but then cures, It should have a really nice shiny look and match really well, it should be similar to the Yamaha blue so I'm really excited to see how they turn out so if you're interested in seeing where I get my powders from I have it linked below in the description the company is called prismatic powders and they really make the best powders I have ever used, they go on super smooth on the piece and look super good and also their website is super intuitive so if you guys go to your website and just go to the gallery and choose a color.
They say they want a red but they're not sure what kind of red. They will have a gallery of all these different photos of customers from all the different Reds. there and you can choose which one will look best on your project, super great website. I'm not actually going to let the part go to 130, probably around a hundred, but if you want a more detailed video on powder coating, I have one that I'll link at the end of this video.
