Police chasing carjacking suspect on 91 Freeway near Corona area

Apr 15, 2024
Your son doesn't have an exact intersection of that gas station, but in that vicinity General he was being chased down Ontario Avenue when he stopped at the gas station and again stole this truck, a heavy truck that is now fleeing here heading west 91. Guys from the highway, with heavily tinted windows, you can't really see what's inside and we have no idea if there were other passengers inside, potentially even a child or a baby, so you have no idea we hear about these stories so often in which someone steals a vehicle with innocent people inside the car again, we have to remind them that this is a truck that was at the gas station presumably being filled with gas, so we have to assume that we are working with a full tank of gas in that truck, something very dangerous. situation there are many unknowns and as I said, all that information leads me to believe that they are going to dedicate more resources to this because the

suspect

behind the wheel here is obviously very dangerous, we have to get him out of the way that we have already seen.

Some of that erratic driving, you can still see it going a hundred miles an hour in light traffic, but that's going to change here, of course, the further west we get to Highway 91, 105 miles an hour, you're right, you're right, ya this. coming into Anaheim Hills covering a lot of real estate in a short period of time here, even using the shoulder to get around traffic that gets in your way here again, it's on a two-lane Express side of Highway 91, the number one and two astride that single white dotted line there on uh I mean this is amazing it's a precise speed we're pushed all the way here he's doing about a buck up to maybe even 110 miles per hour here, so really dangerous speeds can't under uh uh uh score that's enough, it's a dangerous situation here, but at these speeds we say this all the time, you'd rather see it on the

freeway

than some of the erratic driving we saw in a few minutes on surface streets if this leaves the highway.

More Interesting Facts About,

police chasing carjacking suspect on 91 freeway near corona area...

I'm really worried about what kind of damage it could cause on Surface Street, so if they could keep it on the

freeway

that would be great, but at the moment they're not even in the vicinity and you can see the movements that what it's doing here, I mean, this is very dangerous, very tattered, he almost hits that car right there, cutting people off and he doesn't even have

police

behind him, there are no lights and sirens, he's just booking it, you know, you know, he just goes. As fast as that truck will travel, I think with the helicopters flying overhead, yeah, we're dealing with a lot of unconfirmed information, obviously, we're speculating a little bit.

Every time you hear the word rage in line, you have to ask yourself if the person is in the right state of mind, are they under the influence? Is this something like that or is this a larger crime wave going on here in Corona this afternoon? We are now in the Anaheim Hills

area

where you are still riding that shoulder to get around. The few cars in his way aren't even, but he's about to pull off the road to get around the few cars in those express lanes, for some reason he doesn't want to stop. here again on the right he has the entire highway to himself why is he using that shoulder.

I have no idea, but again the information we have received from the

police

is that this was a road rage incident that resulted in a hit and run and our homework desk. I got information that this may also involve a robbery, so again this could be part of a larger crime wave or this could just be... well, I think at this point it's fair to say that this is a crime wave because now when you see someone bold enough and brazen enough to kidnap someone in the middle of the day like that at a gas station just to get away from the police.
Obviously, this is someone with probably and we can't say this for sure, obviously, but he probably he's already done it. a rap sheet, if you're a foreigner, he called you, look at those main lanes, those main lanes are full, so now you have to use those express lanes, the main lanes have quickly become clogged, the traffic you pass through is barely moves, it's still doing it. 100 miles an hour passes all those people as you approach highway 55, that's part of the reason the highway slows down here, there's also a little bit of a slope here, so it's going against traffic again, most of the traffic at rush hour.
He's coming east, he's going west, but you're absolutely right, the further west he goes, the more traffic there will be and obviously the priority is to end this somehow, but right now I don't see how because we don't even have units. in position and with traffic increasing the way it is the units that eventually get here will have to fight all this traffic. Now it looks like it's making that transition onto 55 southbound. So it certainly looks like we're going. deeper into Orange County here in the next few minutes as you head to the south side of Highway 55.
I guess I would have expected CHP to be first. I would have expected CHP to be the first people here, but it looks like it could be Corona PD is shooting is shooting has a gun that's a gun that's an assault rifle that's an assault rifle that just went out the window of the driver's side shooting at those units that just shot in the direction of those police units that is believed to be Corona PD I cannot confirm that it is believed to be Corona PD, which was a large, long assault rifle that came out of the driver's side of that truck he's now running away from at 90 miles an hour and all those black and white people.
They're stopped, we're going to try to get to the south side of the highway, let's have better eyes on the driver's side here, but guys we're dealing with, obviously, I mean, needless to say, we're dealing with a big problem. criminal at the wheel of this van flying across the highway flying across the highway look at this getting off getting off and coming towards us coming towards us now look at this is he wearing a uniform is he wearing a uniform? I can't know for sure or maybe it's a sports jersey or it's a sport maybe it's okay, it's just a jersey okay, I thought I saw, I thought I saw a patch on the arm there, excuse me, yeah, I just It took me by surprise, obviously. an older gentleman with a goatee and a baseball cap that looks like a sports jersey or a T-shirt he's wearing with that gun in his lap, at least one, yeah, he's got a gun in his lap and now look.
When communicating with the truck next to him, the driver rolls down his window taking out his airpods trying to communicate with another driver, it seems like he is asking for directions, he is asking for directions, he is on Tustin Avenue, right off Highway 55, and it seems like I was trying to figure out where he is or where he's going. There will now be multiple agencies working cohesively, hopefully, here in very short order to put an end to this. You're talking about the Riverside County Sheriff. you're talking about the Orange County sheriffs, you're talking about the Anaheim Police Department, the Corona Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, they will stop at nothing at this point after he just fired that gun against those units, we don't know if anyone was hurt, it was just Also, it happened too fast and we didn't get a good look at the officers

chasing

him there, but from what I was told, it appeared to be a Corona police officer who pulled up behind of this truck and when he stopped at the In the middle of the transition there is turn two, I think that will take him to the highway.
Rob, I can't tell, it's a free entrance to the highway, it will take him back to the west side of 91. He wants to get there. Back on the freeway, which will be the driver's side window of westbound Highway 91, which is coming up now, foreign boys, you will stop at nothing. I think that's pretty obvious at this point, although we don't see any law enforcement in the picture. However, that is going to change in the next few minutes. They have to work together, triangulate and catch up despite all the traffic, but that is going to change and you will see many units

chasing

this truck.
They will even start to act. traffic stops to close the freeway if necessary, they told me while that Corona police officer was being shot. The Corona police shot at the van, now you saw that up close on the driver's side, it certainly looked like he was not hurt, but there were bullets flying in his direction, so there was a shootout in transition. Corona police fired their weapons backwards. Now it's an officer-involved shooting. They stopped and he continued to move forward at triple digit speeds just like he is doing now. the HOV lane again we are on the west side of Highway 91.
I don't see any in fact Rob can you come out? There might be one or two, okay, there's going to be one that's going to be, uh, Dan, help me here. an unmarked CHP unit that could be an unmarked unit, let's go ahead and show me the white SUV, a very fast white SUV, it's a, I think it's a supervisor, right, it would be a CHP supervisor, if I'm not mistaken , under the highway. it could be a canine or a supervisor uh in any case that's the white SUV. You see it's CHP. There's another unmarked black unit behind him, so a couple of unmarked units and then I think I saw black and white behind them.
I'm sorry. There's a lot going on here guys, but from what I've counted, at least three units with their lights and sirens on, two of them look like fairly unmarked vehicles or at least not your typical patrol cars. One of them may have even been a canine unit in any case they are pulling, not backing up, they are a little bit behind them, look at this, pulling this bag in the HOV lane, still looking for a way to get past here, slowing down with the traffic it looks like he really has nowhere to go the traffic isn't exceptionally heavy it's like moderate traffic right now we would basically call it stop and go but he's slowing down because he really has nowhere to go with that center divider there , so no I don't even have much shoulder to work with abroad, thank you yes.
As we go through this in Chase, guys, I'm going through all the possible ways this could end in my head and I think it's fair to say most of the typical ways. that we're used to seeing these Chases end probably aren't on the list of how this one will end and we obviously have no idea how exactly it will end, but the behavior we're seeing here is, let's say, next level, by the way, we're dealing with multiple agencies before he even stole this truck, so despite the information we received about road rage and hit and run, that would be a serious enough charge to warrant a lot of law enforcement. no doubt, but if there was another robbery involved or anything else, it would certainly make a lot of sense because there were already two helicopters overhead when we heard about this chase, it included the Riverside County Sheriff and the Ontario Police Department.
Ontario is not close to here so please will Ontario come to Corona which raises a lot of questions. The Corona Police Department is involved in this now in a big way after their units were attacked and CHP before the car was stolen, this vehicle was already going out through ground and air units with their plane. continue to monitor this chase, so there's been a lot of eyes on him over the last hour and obviously things have only gotten better since then, so again the backstory here is going to be very interesting, we're going to get a lot of things. of blanks to fill in about how this all started, what other crimes he's been involved in earlier that day.
I think that, in any case, it will be a long list or at least quite serious, in any case, we are still on the road. Highway 91 hugging that HOV lane and slowing down when necessary doesn't have much pavement to play with in terms of that left shoulder, but the highway will start to slow down if you stay on 91 or even if you do. take the uh, let's see what's coming. I mean it's coming down highway five on the right. Yes, it's coming on Highway 5. That will be a big decision for him. He could commit to the 91st.
Which I think if he stays. that lane still has a choice I think I just saw that sign I think you still have a choice to stay on 91 or get off and get on the five freeway it's about the blood point thinking about that thinking about changing and I Think about pressing that sign over there, so if you stay on the left side, if you stay in that left lane, that will put you on the right side of 91 at five, you'll stay left and take the left lane all the way to 91, so stay on westbound 91, where traffic is a little lighter, I will say that for the next two miles overseas, I mean,as we have already said several times, this is the worst time of day, not only for pedestrians but also for traffic, and the risk potential here is through the roof, so again making another random turn seems like it will be a random turn. left southbound onto Cherry Avenue southbound Cherry Avenue at Signal Hill as we approach Shoreline now in Long Beach.
He's slowing down again compared to before, but he's still driving very erratically and weaving around anyone on his There's no way there's any respect for that red light going through that too, crossing Hill Street and Here Come. Those units behind him, you can see the lead unit is believed to be a canine or a supervisor who is possibly Corona PD and then you have several other units from, not just Corona, but also Anaheim PD, so again, several agencies in Pursuit, multiple agencies involved in this Pursuit and other forms, and as we move through Long Beach, Rob, I think the shadow is in that prominent offshore work tool.
On that, uh, it's now turning right onto westbound PCH, making a westbound turn, toward the piece, okay, Jake, wait a second, uh, Long Beach Police Department. I understand that our assignments desk is being notified, as they are now. as they are now in your jurisdiction, again, it is almost useless to count the number of jurisdictions that we have passed through at this moment, no need to stay, we have passed through dozens of jurisdictions, but all of them are now trying to concentrate here on this. truck, it's on PCH westbound PCH uh technically westbound, obviously it's a north and southbound highway that runs through Los Angeles County, but it's traveling westbound, along PCH, there will be another opportunity, actually , I might even take this to the 605 or, sorry, the 710 freeway, here in the next two days. miles, if you make it to the end, I have some mixed negative problems in my ears, guys, wait a second, someone strange is shooting or is shooting.
It almost looked like someone was shooting. Did you see Rob? Could you say it? He couldn't tell it, he couldn't tell it, he could go either way, but he was shooting, maybe shooting through the windshield of that truck. I don't know what he was shooting at, but it looked like from uh from from from here it looked like he was shooting from the vehicle again. I don't know what he was aiming at, but more shots were fired here on PCH, okay, yeah, we're going to stay on the driver's side of the vehicle here. It makes its way through another major intersection.
What was not clear is what he was shooting at because if he was willing to shoot through his own windshield, he must have had a target he was aiming at. We didn't see where those bullets finally landed. this is the third separate shooting by my count this is the third separate shooting by my count and, frankly, guys, we don't know if anyone has been hit by gunfire during the course of this chase, but it's certainly possible that we just don't. let's know. I have that information still overseas, yes, running 75-80 miles per hour again, this is the fastest we've seen it on the surface streets in quite some time.
It was slowing dramatically as it made its way through Los Angeles County and then toward Long. Beach, but you are now on PCH without much traffic in your way, about 60. Now I should mention that we have already avoided the 710 freeway. There is a chance that you will aim for the 110 freeway and decide to take the Harbor Freeway, and then at that point has more options, but in the meantime, we've bypassed the 710, he's still committed to PCH and every time he sees traffic on his way, he keeps using the same tactic of jumping the double yellow lines into the oncoming lanes of traffic.
They run red lights, the dangerous driving continues but frankly the scariest moments are when he stops or slows down so I don't know what's worse right now with this guy, they just need, need to get over it in numbers with armored vehicles and potentially this will most likely culminate in a use of force situation because of the number of uh the terrible threat here to everyone in the vicinity of this guy is so immediate that the danger is so immediate that they probably have and I say probably because I don't know for sure. It would be great to get this from someone from an expert.
I have a law enforcement officer sitting next to me who is flying Air Seven this afternoon Dan, who has 30 years of experience with the LAPD. he would be right in saying that it would be almost likely that at this point a supervisor authorized the use of force to shoot at that vehicle. Yes, at this point it is fair to say that it is very possible that shots will be fired in your direction if you can get units into position, that is certainly a possibility, a more peaceful solution would be if you could somehow say tag this truck otherwise with an armored vehicle, huh, but the way he drives and the way he knows the way he's willing to use that weapon, all bets are off.
I mean, it's very difficult to say what's going to happen next. uh we're still on PCH, we've gone under the 110 freeway, we've left the Long Beach jurisdiction and we're now, I think, in the Carson jurisdiction of Los Angeles County or potentially even Torrance as we move toward the west. here together with PCH again I know we are having communication problems I can't hear you at the moment but the chase continues with several foreign units okay oh no oh no don't copy anything in FM4 how many holes Rob no correct icon I have both -very far away, I'm trying to connect to my phone, okay, I shoot again, she's stopping, she stops, they can't hear me well, the news, the policeman has to get down, remove the news helicopter, this policeman has to get down. until we get down nothing, there are police behind them, everyone is following us, okay, can someone?
Can someone text me a number? Maybe you could try dialing thank you foreigner, oh god, look at this

suspect

, he's running without the gun, running without the gun. They're going to take him down here now he's on Western Avenue oh my god oh my god he's on foot trying to steal someone else's car trying to steal someone else's car whoa there he goes five cops on him six cops no, I'm going to die a link give me the number foreign foreign in five uh fm1 is in four fm2 is in five the volumes yes uh both say Icom uh negative is on the light off I can't believe he took the I can't believe he didn't take the gun , someone was hurt maybe the police officer could have gotten hurt huh?
Was it a bad hit? I almost lost it. We should go back and land and figure it out. Should we go to Long Beach or go back to Van Nuys? Don't know. I came back, it's not great, but I have a copy, they know it goes in and out. Hey guys, this was something else. I have to tell you that it is a miracle that he got out of that vehicle without that weapon because obviously the threat was very immediate. and ending up in a position as precarious as this at a very busy intersection thank God no one was hurt here no other innocent bystanders sped up to this intersection the intersection crashed into the back of that I believe was an LAPD Harper Division vehicle , I'm not but no it wasn't, it was a sheriff's vehicle and then he lost control hitting that light pole, he jumped out of the vehicle on foot without the assault rifle and then you saw him running through the lanes trying to steal the car, had another truck and That's when the sheriff's department swooped in on a couple of other agencies and again this involved numerous agencies, mainly Corona police, Anaheim police, Riverside was involved at one point, CHP played a role, as well as local deputies here at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Harvard Division. on the edge of Torrance's jurisdiction, although I don't think I've seen any Torrance police officers, although what is that unit over there?
Rob at the top of the screen, there are so many jurisdictions involved here, guys, it's such a complicated effort to bring. this chase came to an end uh and it happened by chance he just lost control he hit the pole he jumped luckily without that gun and luckily he's going to jail and no one else is going to get hurt here just an amazing ending to an amazing chase here in Harbor City thank you absolutely . I mean, the fact that no one that we know of was hurt is incredible. I don't know if we're still sure that anyone else was hit by gunfire during the course of this chase.
It is possible that you have that information. uh we were dealing with a lot of technical issues at one point uh, but I don't know if you've heard that I don't know if anyone uh in this chase has been hit by gunfire, there were several occasions, at least four by my count that He pulled that assault rifle out the driver's side window and started shooting in the direction of authorities and at one point even shot through his own windshield. I think that was the fifth shooting so a dangerous individual got out of the way this afternoon and not a minute before thanks now I have programming on fm3 we want to do a raw hard reset maybe reset the entire ENT package what do you think it's no longer I have nothing in techniconic?
