pipe

cleaner

s and this is where we'll start forming the design of our

bowl

when it's finished, so this will be something that you'll just play with and see how you want it. to come together, I don't think there necessarily has to be any rhyme or reason.

I'm just going to crisscross my pipe cleaners here and if you crisscross them, crisscross them twice and once in each direction so everything is really solid, otherwise those things wobble a lot and they don't necessarily have to be the same, just put them in your

bowl

Where you want. I guess this will be hard to describe because it really depends on you. and your

style

and I'm not even sure exactly how I'm working on this so I'm going to make some little taina leaf designs here by bending my pipe cleaner and just making some small shapes you can make other shapes if you choose what works for you and you figure out how you want to put them together, where you want to put them together, I should say, and anywhere you have a wrapped joint, so I wrapped this one, but you can see it's still swinging back and forth like this, so what?

What I'm going to do as well is go in the opposite direction with the other pipe cleaner. You will do this until you get the shape, design, and

style

you want for your bowl. You can make some folds in it if you want. and just keep putting your pipe cleaners in and then every time you add a new shape, you'll see where it is in your bowl and keep adding, eventually all of these will have to come together somehow so that when we remove them. our bowl that still keep the shape. I know this looks really weird right now and in my head it turns out great, so let's hope it stays the way it is in my head, I probably should have bought a different colored bowl for So you can see this, I'll put a t-shirt over it so that they can have an idea and can see the shape that I have.
So far I have this shirt. just strictly so you can see the color, nothing more so you can see, this doesn't really seem to make much sense or rhyme or reason, but I keep adding pieces, just different shapes, different angles, some leave some swirls. so you can make it very angular if you want. I usually really like more rounded shapes. I don't know, maybe it's just a personality thing, who knows, doesn't it look weird? I know you're probably wondering where it's going. With this thing going on here in the world, you can even make this into a spider web design for Halloween if you want, you can use pliers or something if you're making some of these ends because this wire is a little small. and it could definitely be easier with some pliers as you go, just keep looking for the empty spaces.
You don't want the spaces in between to be too large because the more space, the less integrity your bowl will have and the easier it will be to break. so we just want to try to make a lot of things happen, plus there's a lot of different ways and a lot of things more tied together, so to speak, yeah, I don't know what to call it, but just a little bit more action. Like some action is starting to take shape, what do you think? I know this seems so strange, but this is something they're just going to use their own creativity on, it's not something I can really guide them on, it's just something.
You're just going to have to play on your own and try, and you know what the bottom line is guys, it's all a little bit of time and some pipe cleaners, and you know, don't be afraid to try new things. things to get out of your comfort zone and just try it, you can do it. I have faith in you and we can do wonderful things if we let ourselves. I always tell my kids and one of my favorite sayings: "If you think you can or you think you can't, you're right!" So do it and think that you can because then it will be very easy to tell ourselves that we can't do something, but you know that you can, you can really try and not beat yourself up if things don't work out. exactly how you want them, you guys have seen me many times before, if your subscribers to my channel watch a lot you will see that I show my mistakes there too, so we all make them, who cares, do it, no one expects you to be. perfect except yourself and that's too much pressure so have fun okay so you can see I've got my bowl covered here and I like the way that is the next step we're going to do we're going to put I put

plaster

of Paris to firm all of this up and start forming our bowl.
Okay, now for the part where we get a little dirty. I took some plastic and left it. This is just a couple of gallons. Ziplock bags that I cut in half and taped together. You can use a garbage bag or any piece of plastic, so here I have a plaster of

paris

and a glass of cold water from the sink and then an extra cup for mixing and I'm going to use a toothpick to stir all this up, so first nothing we'll go in there and start. I think this is just to give you an idea.
I mean, I don't really measure per se, but it's about a quarter cup of plaster of

paris

and we're going to start adding water and mixing it until it's the consistency of runny toothpaste, so you don't want it to be too runny, but you also don't want to It should also be so thick and sticky that it fills everything, it fills up and dries quickly and you know, you might want to wear gloves. I like to put my fingers in things. I like to be able to feel what I'm doing. I'm not going to use gloves and you may need a couple batches of this.
Don't know. I'm really not sure how much it will take right now because we are doing this together. Don't know. We'll see that we may need a little more, so this one has a good consistency. I don't know how well it shows, but it's pancake batter or something, that would probably be a good thing to describe it, like here's my piece that I'm going to put this on top of and we're going to work on covering all the pipe cleaners with this plaster mix. Paris, so we're going to want to get both sides and this will give you an idea of when this. is looking up, what your bowl is actually going to look like, so I think what I'm going to do first is start at this bottom and just give it that, I have to stick my fingers in there.
I don't know how else to do it, but you want to get all your fingers in there and apply this because we want it to cover our entire pipe cleaner very thoroughly, so I'm definitely going to need more of my plaster of paris mix, so if I had to guess, I would say I've mixed about a cup of plaster of paris and I keep adding water until I get the right consistency so it's best to mix enough from the beginning because if you don't mix enough and your hands are dirty and it makes everything messy and makes it a little harder and then continue dipping it and recovering it completely, that's like finger painting.
I feel like I'm a kid again. You really want it to soak in your pipe cleaners because this is what will give it strength, I probably should have taken the jewelry off first but I didn't really think about that, maybe my next video will be on how to clean jewelry so go ahead and make sure let everything be completely soaked and once they do all that we will put it back into our container which is covered with the saran plaster of paris it's pretty inexpensive so don't worry about using too much and doing too much you may end up throwing away a bit. away, but it is actually very reasonably priced.
I mean, I've used this container for several projects and I still have a lot left, so once you have all that in there, very carefully try to lift it, it will be a little heavy. and put it back on top of your bowl, make sure you reshape things where you want them because once it dries, that's where it will stay, it's like making mud pies when you were a kid, right? so then and you still don't like getting dirty and sticky, you're not going to like this, but just wear gloves, it's a really cool project, now you definitely don't want to make this plaster paris while it's in the container because it's all It's going to fill in and it's going to lose its effect a little bit if you have little spots that you want to touch up, that's okay, since I have a couple of spots here.
I feel like I could use a little more plaster of paris, but whatever is on the plastic will also dry out and you don't want that to stick to your pipe cleaners. The less we put there, the less we will have to clean up later. Really look for any missing points. the plaster of paris because those will not only show on the pipe cleaner but they will be kind of weak points in your project and in your container later and now, as always, the hardest part is letting this dry and not playing with him before it's dry so we'll do it again when it's dry guys I'm very excited ok it's dry I'm very excited so when you go to remove this you have to be very careful because it's still in a state a little fragile, make sure it is very dry.
It's actually been a couple of days for me because I was busy, but when you pull it apart, it won't come off easily if there are a couple of stitches you need. of pressing carefully and working it and just working it and working it, which I did a little bit later on and then going ahead and pulling it out and there you have it. I love it, so if you look closely, we'll see some spaces that are full, so we want to address those things. If you still have the chopstick that you use to stir, you can use it a little bit, but be careful, the other thing is that you can use it. a nail file, if some of those pieces are too thick, they might not come off easily with your toothpick or your finger, so do that and then what we're going to do is mix it up a little bit. a little bit more of our plaster of paris and we're going to go over some of the areas that maybe are still flexible, like this area here is for me if you can see that and fill in any places that we may have missed, so I'm going to go ahead and clean up some of these little extras that I don't want and then I'll show you how we're going to reinforce some of those other points.
Okay, so I've got all my little bits cleaned up and what I'm going to do now is I'm going to start on the inside of the container and I've mixed my extra plaster of Paris here and I have a brush. I don't know, any brush will do. I just took this one, it's a little stiffer. You can probably use a smaller brush and then any area that you see inside that still has some space, you'll have to work not very fast, but you know, moderately, at a decent pace, to fill in any little gaps or any parts. of the pipe cleaner that you're still looking at and this is what will really strengthen this so that it's not really brittle, so you can see here how.
This still shows a lot of the pipe cleaner in this particular one, so I'm going to go ahead and fill it in around the bottom and on the sides that we'll be in once we have the whole bottom taken care of. Now we will turn it over and make the top. I like texture, so I'm not necessarily trying to cover up texture. I'm just trying to make sure that I don't see pipe cleaners and that texture. It's Plaster of Paris in Pipe Cleaner If your Plaster of Paris is starting to thicken too quickly, just add a little water before it has a chance to thicken too much because after that, it's too late, there's not much you can do about it, so the parts that wobble like This is still quiteshaky.
I'm going to go ahead and make sure to reinforce it not only from the inside but from the outside as well. Making it a little more fluid is a good idea when we're reinforcing because it dries very quickly and it thickens once it hits this, your base that's already there, it's almost like you just absorb that moisture right there and stir, keep stirring, make sure So that the plaster of paris doesn't fall to the bottom again, work fast, I mean, don't stress. but work quickly and if you need a little more time and you see that it's thickening too quickly, keep adding water so keep going until you finish this whole bottom part and then we'll turn it over to the other side this way you can stand up. this so it can start to dry on the bottom while you guys work on the top so I will tell you I'm learning here with you as I go mix small batches at a time because it really starts to thicken quickly but don't mix too big a batch because you'll get frustrated and have to throw it out and mix again, so I'm going to mix up a fresh batch so I can get started.
I just want to show you the difference between what the inside looks like that's already been touched up and what the outside looks like, you can see there's a lot more texture and things that we want to fill in to give the bowl some integrity, okay? So now comes the really hard part which is hitting the like button and letting me know that you're enjoying this video. Also the really hard part for me is waiting for this to dry, we're almost done, let's let this dry. I've done both sides and that's it and we're going to paint this and then look at it and see what we've created, each of which will be unique and different, so I'm really excited and I hope you guys take this project on.
Turn it on and do it so I can see what yours looks like. Well, what I have so far I'm debating if I want to paint it turquoise as some kind of accessory for my kitchen or if I want to make it silver. I'm not so sure yet but you'll see.
